Great State park. variety of walking trails in different distances. Very clean. It is recommended to use All Trails Ap to navigate through the park and not get lost.

Beautiful park! It feels very refreshing and cool in the summer, with plenty of shade and a relaxing atmosphere. A great place to take a walk, enjoy nature, or just sit and unwind.

Beautiful and Refreshing Escape into Nature We visited Hacklebarney State Park for a half-day trip, and it was absolutely worth it! The trails are well-shaded, making it perfect for an afternoon hike, and the sound of the Black River running alongside you is so calming. The small waterfalls and cascades along the way add a really scenic touch. The park is very family-friendly — not too crowded, clean, and with plenty of spots to stop for photos or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We also loved that it’s free to enter and close to farms where you can stop for fresh cider or ice cream afterward. A hidden gem in New Jersey for anyone looking for nature, water, and a refreshing break!

Our family has enjoyed visiting for many years. Shaded walking paths, places to climb around and dip feet in the water. The paths are cleared, and there are porta-potties. State parks need more funding!

Interesting trail! The red trail is rocky in the middle and runs right along the river. Good for kids over 7 and not stroller friendly. They have a few view points which give a nice view of the river and soothes you with the sound of flowing water! Our favorite trail overall!

We love this park to hike with our kids. The first half of the river trail is easy and stroller friendly. The second, not so much, as it’s very rocky. There’s a playground at the park. Waterfalls, Greenery along my entire hike. Love it.

Great place for a hike. Many different well marked trails. Lots of little spots to relax and enjoy the river and the waterfalls. Dog friendly with all dogs on leash.. the entire place is carry in- carry out.. so come prepared. Can’t wait to go back. Make sure to wear good shoes there lots of rocks sticking out in the paths. Seen people twist ankles, fall and cut themselves. Stay safe.

Nice place to spend time with kids . Except for a stretch with rocks it’s pretty easy trail . River by side and good shade makes it good experience. Only Portable restrooms. There is small playground and plenty of tables throughout trail to sit and have food. Mail trail is 1.8miles . You can take shorter trail which avoids rocky part and much shorter.

Love this place!!! Very pretty and quiet. You can carry your own food and enjoy some quality time on the riverside benches on the hike.

Very nice park. Easy beautiful hike on the river mostly shaded. Good for children's and dogs as well. Many benches and tables along the trail and a few bbq spots

It's a beautiful place and most of the time, it's very quiet as well as peaceful. Great way to unplug and enjoy time in nature. I take my kid here to let her burn all her extra energy sometimes, and she loves it. Not all the trails are kid friendly, but there are a few that offer everything if you bring the family here.

Great park! My kids love climbing in rocks so this hike was perfect! We were hear for over 3 hrs because of all the climbing we did. This place has picnic tables through out so you can stop for a snack! Beautiful views!

Great hike for beginners or anyone who loves hiking along a river with some waterfalls. There are plenty of boulders, so I would recommend wearing proper footwear. Pack a lunch and eat at one of the many picnic tables distributed in various areas. Be prepared to pick out all of your trash. Amazing photos year round, but especially during autumn foliage! Some hills and steps. Lots of rocks to maneuver. The bathroom has always been a nightmare, so I was happy to read that a new bathroom will be constructed for 2025.

I might as well start reviewing my hikes since I'm always going on them! Hacklebarney is a beautiful state park with the Lamington River and Trout Brook lining the beautiful natural walkways that make this park perfect. In the fall, the foliage and splatter of leaves make this both expectionally aesthetic but also a comfortable, great hike.

Another amazing hiking trail in New Jersey. The trails are all clearly marked and the park is very well maintained. The water attracts the bugs when muggy outside, but to be expected. Just bring some bug spray. Red trail has some rocky terrain at times. Loved it.

Had one of the best strolls around the park, me and my husband started with the riverside trail and we loved it. The parking is quite near to the trails, beautiful and picturesque riverside guides you along the calming riverside walk with a level of moderate hikes. Will go back again and explore other trails.

Wonderful hike took the red trail and was very impressed. Felt truly impressed in nature yet not far from society . Went shortly after a week of rain and the falls were epic . I will definitely be going again to this park

This was a great scenic hike along the streams. Much better than I thought. Trails are pretty flat and semi paved. Wear hiking boots if you own a pair. There are picnic tables and some BBQ grills scattered throughout the park. There are also plenty of benches for sitting. No fee when we went today. Bathrooms are closed and there are port a pottys in the parking lot.

This is one of beautiful park around Bridgewater 30mins drive. It had multiple trails.. we chose red dot trail which is moderate but all the way along River side. There are multiple picnic spots with grill facilities which are very beautiful. Washrooms are at parking locations only which is lacking continuous cleaning. Hiking is easy with other trails. It took 2 hours to complete red trail with normal speed. Water in the river was very cool and clear.

Lovely trails and singular footpaths by rushing water, including a waterfall. Many fisher-people in the morning. Fun walking with some rocky ways. Unfortunately, many of the buildings have been left to rot: it would be nice to see the community or state return the park to its former glory. More than functional, but spots of decay that impress an unfitting austerity for the surrounding community.

Absolutely lovely hiking experience. Trails are decently marked, there were plenty of maps for whoever needs one. Place was very clean, but of course there's some trash here and there because people are slobs. There's picnic tables along the paths so you can rest anywhere. The red path along the river is the longest, but a very nice hike, just wear decent shoes. The rocks can get a bit rough at points, but still not a tough trail at all. The waterfalls are lovely and very scenic, makes for great photos! I'll be going back when the trees fill in, and again in the fall!

Pretty nice park with plenty of trails and routes to try. The waterside trail is calming and has tables alongside it if you ever wanted to bring your lunch. The trails are welcome to pets and the parking lot is big enough to accommodate a busy day. Definitely recommend! It's a nice walk during all seasons.

Probably won't be a five if I hadn't visited during the fall foliage, but upon witnessing its glory during our visit, the hike and the sceneries are as good as it gets. We hiked on Nov 5. It was after the peak foliage, but the colors were still spectacular. It was a brisk sunny day, perfect for hiking. From the parking lot, we started with the Main Trail. This part was paved, though not in good condition. With the picnic area on the right (also where wheelchairs can't go any further), we took the Windy Ridge Trail which could be easily missed. There are a lot of tree roots. At the end of the trail, we cross the bridge on the right, which is the start of the Riverside Trail. As soon as you see the river, look for a park bench on a pedestal on your right, because you wouldn't want miss the most picturesque view there. Don't let the name of the trail fool you. The part of Riverside trail right up to the Three Pools Trail is rocky and difficult to hike. Trail is also hard to follow. We took the Three Pools Trail back to the Main Trail. Before concluding the hike, we made an excursion to the Waterfall Trail for the waterfall which was not easy to get close to despite reaching the bottom of the long staircase for the Trout Brook Waterfall. It took us 2 hours while taking lots of photos along the way, and it covered about half of the trail. We hope to come back some day to explore the rest of the trails. There are plenty of parking. The approaches to the park from both the east and west are a bit unexpected. Almost just a single lane in some parts, and windy in others. Remote and out of the way for sure, but that's makes this state park even more of a tugged-away gem.

This is a beautiful place to hike! Stunning views of the river, small waterfalls and rushing waters provide great scenery. The trails are well marked which is very helpful since there are many spots along the 2.9 mile red trail where you wouldn’t think there was a trail given how rock and root covered the trail is there. One must be able to traverse various terrains to walk the full trail. There are cut through trails for those who need them. The white trail that brings you from the end of the red trail to parking lot is a clear uphill path. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches along trails to take a break or have lunch. It is a gorgeous place!

Nice beautiful park with a river but could be packed and busy on weekends. The trails are fairly easy in my opinion. The paths are literally covered in leaves!! So cool....however, be careful because it could be slippery and hide any uneven roads and prone to tripping. Plenty of picnic tables as well.

Great trail with beautiful scenery. We did the red trail , which began as a gravel path walkway with steady incline. Then the red trail took us down by the river, which turned into a bit of rugged terrain. There are benches/places to sit by the water and barbeque areas too.

Really nice park. Tons of picnic tables throughout the various trails. Some uniquely located on outcroppings in the river accessible by small bridges. There were some excellently placed benches too for great views. Nice trails, especially liked the Riverside trail but beware, much of this trail is over rocks and roots.
