What clients say about ShopRite of Hoboken in Hoboken (NJ)

Best run shop rite in the area. It actually was a deciding factor in picking where I live now. One additional nice added touch is if you know a product is sold at other shop rites but they don’t carry it here you can ask them for a special order. The butcher shop will also take special requests with a few days lead time.

Nice to see a supermarket so close to New York City. As tourists from the UK, it was great to see a proper supermarket, as you are limited to Target and Duane Reade when in the city. Great selection of products. Cheaper on some items and more expensive on others. Staff are friendly, and the restrooms are clean. Can't complain and would visit again.

Tally the droid stalks the aisles.
No complaints. In and out, that's what it's all about, though if you are using self checkout you should get an employee discount.
It's always a different experience each time I visitDec 25, 2025 -
This place was an awful experience from the start. I had to shop for so many items and they were really complicated to find and I was extremely late leaving the store and the people I was shopping for started to complain at me. I also had to place a few orders at various departments (deli, meat) and they took forever which didn't help me but it hurt me. Then, by the time I finally finished and got to checkout, the wait time was forever and I had to call support and cancel the entire shop. Waste of a trip & I do not recommend going here at all and therefore I give this place 1 star.

The place is big and has everything. The new computerized shopping carts are a real time saver.
I like the bakery dept. Great place for picking up the last minute cake, pie or cookies when going visiting. Also they have flowers and the liquor store.
The produce department has also been improved. The produce is better quality than before. They also have some unusual seasonal items.
One stop to get it all.
One more big thing, the prices here are much better than the other nearby markets and the direct delivery services.Oct 19, 2025 -
It's a supermarket not sure why you would rank it higher or lower... if they have what you need great if not move on to another one.

My ShopRite delivery was a mess—lots of items were missing, and there was no notice or explanation. The driver was rushed and unhelpful. I paid for convenience and got frustration instead. Not ordering from here again. This happened twice already.

They only had self service cashiers. Pretty bad when they charge what they do

Its amazing. They are always well stocked and the place is clean. The produce section is huge. The dairy section has a huge selection. Self checkout is large so even when busy you can checkout quickly. They have the Caper carts. These are smart carts that as you shop you scan the items into a list as you put them in your cart. Then you can put your Shoprite membership number so you get your discounts and you also get Caper credit that when you reach $5 you get taken off your total. Maxwell in self checkout is awesome and really helpful.

Lovely workers and decent prices! Paris is a great cashier, very efficient but conversational. Good place to go for groceries or a quick bite on the run.

ShopRite Hoboken is honestly a mixed bag. On good days, it feels like a reliable grocery stop – well-stocked shelves, decent produce, and a wide variety of everyday essentials at reasonable prices. When everything goes smoothly, you leave satisfied and glad this store is here.
But the experience can turn unpleasant quickly. Whether it’s long checkout lines, poor customer service, or a frustrating encounter with staff, those moments stick with you and make you question if you ever want to come back. It’s one of those places where you don’t know if you’ll have a smooth trip or walk out annoyed. Today Schrödinger’s cat is dead to me.Aug 22, 2025 -
Love a great Shoprite. I live how Shoprite caters to their specific neighborhood and clientele. Can always find something unique and delicious.

Great variety and the store seems pretty well organized. Prices are competitive. The one gripe I have is that there were no cashiers last night and the self checkout we used absolutely was terrible. Needed customer assistance at least 10 times. Pay some young and older people to work as cashiers instead of your customer service people sitting on their phones while customers struggle at the self check out. There was one guy though that was quite helpful. Credit where credit is due. Have always shopped at ShopRite since the 70's. Grew up shopping at Columbia Park ShopRite and it was and still is great.

This is a omplete, but quirky supermarket that offers some products unique to its neighborhood. It is well managed and while busy, never crowded. Recommended.

I’ve been a loyal customer to this ShopRite, shopping here for over 5 years multiple times a week. Before getting out of my car their security guard took a picture of my vehicle and within an hour my car was towed. I will no longer be shopping be shopping here!

Prices are up significantly in Hoboken. A jar of Bowl and Basket peanut butter was $1.99 as tagged on the shelf underneath the product and is now $5.69! . A couple of other prices were misleading as well vs. what was listed on the shelf. Staff said that you need to go into app for the coupons. I found it extremely misleading as there was no indication where items are priced on the shelf. This never happened before. I have been coming here since it first opened and am very disappointed. Staff not really receptive to feedback. Check all prices as you check out.

Great store, great customer service! Today around noon I was treated very well by a lady who was working in the meat department, she went out of her way to give me exactly what I was seeking. Very thoughtful and helpful employee! Thank you!

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at the ShopRite in Hoboken that I feel compelled to share. I have been using the Smart Cart system for the last four months without any major issues, until my recent visit. This has happened Thursday 11/07/2024 around 9:25-9:30 am. During this trip, I encountered a problem with weighing vine tomatoes on the cart’s built-in scale. Frustrated but hopeful, I decided to complete the weighing process at the self-service checkout instead.
While doing so, a short female employee approached me. I informed her that the scale on the Smart Cart wasn’t working properly. Rather than assisting or addressing the issue, she proceeded to scan every single item in my cart using the cart’s system herself. This, unfortunately, led to duplicate scans for many of my items. When I pointed this out, she responded dismissively and told me that I needed to scan all items at the regular self-service machines. To add insult to injury, she remarked that I should use a regular cart next time, implying that I was at fault and undermining my intelligence.
Her condescending attitude and lack of understanding were frustrating enough, but it was her behavior that crossed the line into what felt like ignorance and discrimination. This encounter left me so upset that I abandoned my cart and left the store altogether. I do not plan to return after such a demeaning experience.
This type of behavior from employees is unacceptable, and it’s disappointing to see such a lack of respect and competence in customer service. ShopRite needs to address how their staff handles these situations to prevent such treatment in the future.Nov 07, 2024 -
I had my first delivery today and items. They’re shopper scanned at the register that are on my receipt. We’re not a part of my delivery. Then I called the store to find out some of those items they no longer have in stock. So within that two hours the items That were scanned at the register I was charged for, they don’t have in stock any longer nor the items that were scanned for my order. How? Employee error. And they say this happens a lot. Employee errors happen a lot
Update: I sent an email and heard back via a form letter that did not address my issue at all! I called up and was told the items that were not delivered would be delivered between 2 and 3 PM and here it is 4:24 PM with no notification From the driver, my bag will be delivered. It would’ve been nice if my response on their contact us page would’ve been read by an employee rather than a pre-edited form letter going out that did not address my issue.Oct 05, 2024 -
The best butcher ever - Nick Alave !!! Caring, respectful, thoughtful - listens to what you want. Every time we order meat from Nick for family gatherings -sheer perfection - still talking about Easter Prime Rib

While I have not actually shopped at this store, I frequent watch YouTube, which highlights this store and its superior shoplifting surveillance team (aka Felix) and how professional they are in processing said crimes. While it’s disheartening to see folks using EBT also feel the need to steal, I think y’all should find a store without zero tolerance and theft prevention because you WILL be caught here.

It's a really big supermarket especially being in a city, so the selection/variety is a lot better than at other supermarkets in Hoboken. There's a fresh seafood counter, deli, and bakery. My only complaint is that self-checkout can often be really glitchy. Seeing other reviews I'm also concerned that they're removing traditional lanes completely, because honestly a lot of people are super slow at self-checkout. I don't think switching entirely to self-checkout will be the efficiency gains management think it will be.

The customer service and overall appearance of this location is sub par at best. Too many of the employees are rude, unknowledgeable, and hate working there (some are nice). A young guy working the customer service desk couldn’t care less about helping me find something that was listed in the flyer. The store always looks like it’s being stocked with piles of boxes everywhere, no matter what time you go. And the app is garbage. Many of the digital coupons don’t show up on the app and you have to have them manually added by the customer service employees, which is a huge waste of time. When I asked if this can be fixed on my app, I was told, “No. That has nothing to do with us, that’s corporate.” Gee, thanks buddy!! Today, I went two hours before closing time and the customer service desk was closed with a sign that read, “Closed, try next register” and an arrow that was pointing to a wall. Hilarious. Then, half of the meat section was empty while a worker was washing the refrigerated shelves with a hose and bucket of soapy water. When I asked him about the ground beef, he told me to come back tomorrow! Thumbs up for cleaning, but hosing shelves down during business hours while hauling the meat to the back is ridiculous. Basically, this store takes the cake for the most unpleasant shopping experience. As someone who always shopped at ShopRite, I think I’m done with this place. Self checkout was the beginning of the end. ShopWrong is more like it.

Amazing butcher department. Was looking for hanger steaks but didn’t see on the shelves so I asked and ye shall receive! Not only did I get excellent service the butcher went above and beyond, trimmed the meat to perfection for me which a lot of butchers don’t do anymore. Service that illustrates no matter what the job is, do it the best! They have almost every cut of beef (from tail to tongue). Clean, excellent prices and friendly-neighborhood feel butcher service!

2 starer, I had Bowl & Basket chicken other day. And as soon as I opened the leg quarters packet it was kind of a pungent smell like some sort of gas smell or methanol smell. Without trying I trashed it. Opened the drumstick packet, luckily this one wasn't having that smell. Although I cooked and eat. But never gonna buy from Bowl and Basket.

I went to this ShopRite to buy a birthday cake for my friend. When I arrived at the bakery department, I picked out a cake and asked the woman behind the counter if I could get writing on the cake. She nastily told me that I had to go the front of the store, pay for the cake, and then bring it back to the bakery if I wanted writing on the cake.
I paid for the cake, walked back to the bakery department and asked the same lady if I can get "Happy Birthday Ricky" written on the cake. She seemed like she did not want to be bothered.
She stuck a small sign in the cake that said "Happy Birthday" and sloppily wrote the name (see picture attached). I could have have stuck a happy birthday sign in the cake myself.
DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOPRITE FOR ANY BAKED GOODS. I also saw a lot cakes that were expired still out for sale.Mar 04, 2021 -
