What clients say about Historic Smithville in Smithville (NJ)

Historic Smithville Barn lodging was on point. Our family wanted to try something different this year to celebrate Christmas, and Historic Smithville was on our list. The charming village truly resembles a Hallmark movie and did not fall short of that expectation. Staying at the Barn felt safe and cozy. The only drawback was the lack of activities on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. All shops and eateries closed by 3 PM on Christmas Eve, and nothing was open on Christmas Day, so planning ahead is important. The Wi-Fi worked well, there was plenty of parking, and security cameras were discreetly placed throughout the exterior areas, which added to the sense of safety. The bathroom tub didn’t drain very well, but it didn’t spoil our family fun. One suggestion for improvement: it would be very helpful if the establishment provided a plan view or map with room numbers clearly marked, so guests could see which rooms they are booking. We wanted to reserve a room with a front porch but couldn’t determine which room numbers corresponded to those rooms. Other reviewers mentioned breakfast—yes, it’s provided, but the selection is limited to muffins or croissants. Overall, it was a memorable and cozy experience for our family, especially if you’re looking for a peaceful and picturesque getaway.

We finally got to Smithville for the first time in years. There was music filling the air and the entire village was packed with people and parking lot was terrible as I remembered. There were bonfires and the air was saturated the the smells of delicious food. The coffee shop no longer sells cups of hot coffee just bags of ground coffee and whole beans. It was cold on this particular night but most stores were open for business. I liked the Christmas store but they are not handicap accessible. The main reason we visited was for the Christmas decorations in the lake or what is Left of it. Maybe we will visit next year for Christmas.

The historic Smithville Village is located in Galloway Township approximately 15 miles from Atlantic City, New Jersey. Smithville Inn and Restaurant was originally established in the 1700's. It is a unique place to dine with cuisine from that era. The village includes various shops for very interesting browsing and shopping. It is scenic and enjoyable for a nice walk?♂️ ?♀️. Some older buildings were moved to the current location to add to the character of the area. Very friendly and interesting shopkeepers to provide additional insights and information.

Smithville is always a beautiful quaint place to visit! Love all of the shops and at Christmas it is decorated so festive! They even had s'mores ( cash only ) Santa was on the merry go round too and they have a special "talking " Xmas tree! The train was also running. Plenty of parking too Definitely being some cash for the places that are cash only !

What a wonderful little town at a wonderful time of year. The people here were so friendly! From the shopkeeper at The Bee’s Knees and Olive & Grape and Peanut Butter Co to our waiter at the Lakeside Grill. We parked right off of the main road in a huge gravel lot right across the street from the Smithville Inn. It’s a good idea to make a reservation if you want to eat at the popular restaurants. The shops are quaint with unique finds.

We went with family at dusk for the light show! It was the dickens craft show, with many tents set up along with the usual venders. The kids enjoyed the carousel and train rides! It was a nice start to the holiday season.

Worth the drive! Nice and cozy place with nice non corporate chain shops! The floating xmas tree show was a really great one!

It's a great time with lots of little shops, food spots and a tavern. The Christmas light are great. Can be as cheap of a night as u want or u can spend money. Local winery there as well.

It's like an awesome village trapped in the 1800s where you walk the streets enjoying great food, gift shops and bars. There is literally everything you could want from eateries to shopping for anybody from the age of 2 to 102 years of age LOL

Just became my favorite place in NJ! An old co-worker had mentioned this place years ago and I finally went. Now that I'm a bit older, I can appreciate the cobblestone walkways, the shops with very hard working people (lots of homemade items), the lake, trolley and the ambiance of something that looks out of a postcard! The lights at night are so pretty! My drunk walk back to my room was fantastic ha! The village can be seen in a day or two, and I highly recommend lodging there as you will be in the heart of it all.

Love visiting this village. There was a car show though so it made it hard to find parking and to walk around.

We stopped in for the Irish festival, and it did not disappoint. So much to see and hear and eat. We had a blast. Got my soft pretzels and copy of WeirdNJ. We always come to Smithville when down the shore. Thank you

Located 30 minuted fro Atlantic City. The town is definately a stepback in time. There are vintage buildings, cobblestone roadway, train that loops around. Many shops, restaurants, wineries are present. Need more time to explore. Will return soon.

Great place to walk around on a nice day and check out all the cute little shops. Definitely go into woof woof Barkery and say hello to Andrea! Super sweet and has some great breed specific merchandise.! The candy shop next-door to her though can be pretty rude so we have stopped going there. But it’s a nice place to get some unique gifts and just have a nice day of walking around.

My first time at Historic Smithville Village. What a quaint village with a variety of specialty shoppes. There is a 60 year old carousel and an old fashioned train. There are a few restaurants and a bakery. I would definitely take a drive to the village.

?This a old town area of houses and buildings from the 1800's that have been converted into a village of stores and restaurants.? ?Clearly visable from the street. ?Multiple parking lots with multiple handicap spots. ?Property is paved and most if not all of the shops and restaurants are handicap accessible. ?Multiple stores selling a very large assortment of things. ?Several restaurants and several food shops covering a range of tasty things. ?Bathrooms available. ?Seasonal lake paddle boats. ? Children's train ride. ??What really stands out is there are Bed and Breakfasts available in many of these old buildings.

Very nice place to spend an afternoon. Lots of near little shops to browse and several places to grab a bite to eat.

We visited around Thanksgiving last year, and the town was beautifully decorated for the season. One thing we loved is how dog-friendly it is—we were able to bring our pup along, which made the experience even better. Just a small note: the restaurant doesn’t allow pets indoors, only in the outdoor seating area. It was a bit chilly that day to dine outside, but everything else was wonderful. We truly enjoyed our time and will definitely be back!

These shops are the very best, with kind and helpful owners. I highly recommend making a day trip out of this place, I plan on staying the night here soon.

Interesting place. If you are looking to spend some time with the kids, go there. You need about 4 hours to go around each building. Make sure you have cash on you.

Such a lovely place to spend a weekend! Historic Smithville is a peaceful and charming little village — perfect for a relaxing day out with family or friends. We loved walking along the cobblestone paths, checking out all the cute shops, and just taking in the beautiful lake views. There’s a train ride, and paddle boats that kids would enjoy, and plenty of cozy spots to eat or grab a treat. It has a very laid-back, old-timey vibe that makes you slow down and just enjoy the moment. A great mix of shopping, strolling, and relaxing — we had a really nice time!

There is a bevy of adorable shops with unique finds in them. You can take a train ride around the village. There are picnic tables under the trees on the outskirts of the village if you want to pack a lunch and make a day of it. But there are also eateries and food shops. I loved the wine place and the cheese place, their owners should get together to do a pairing/tasting event.

Beautiful place! Was here for the Mayfest event. There could have been more food options but at least the prices were reasonable. Will recommend for a nice family outing.

This place was so cute. Been trying to come here for years and finally did so worth it. A lot of walking but a lot of benches to rest. Pound is beautiful. Very clean place. Mom and pop shops everywhere. Everyone is nice. Would come again for sure. This is a must go to destination. Would love to see around the holidays.

Historic Smithville has a lot of cute shops and activities, but they had a lot of smoking and drinking. My group had an overall okay time, this is a decent family outing location. My group came for a Corvette show, which we all enjoyed.

This was our first time visiting and I was very impressed! We went for Octoberfest, and although it was busy, there were more than enough places to eat and shop. Tons of cute shops to stop in. All types of food items, a cheese shop, many places to eat or grab a snack or coffee, shops with gifts, and a train that circles around the village. They have paddle boats as well. I feel like this would be a cute place to visit regardless of the season, but it would definitely be worth it to visit during Christmas. The pizza place is also very good! Will definitely be planning another visit.

09/25/2024: We visited Historic Smithville for the first time today and arrived early before the shops opened. Then, we walked around. It was surprising to see all the geese and ducks roaming around. (Pictures attached.) Visited several shops and made sure to purchase a number of edible and decorative items to take home. The cheese spreads we purchased were particularly tasty. The ONLY thing I regret is not taking a ride on the train - next time. Shop owners were friendly and talkative. We had a positive experience.
