Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves in
North Woodstock (NH)

I took three young teens and they had a wonderful time. They explored each and every cave and thought the experience was amazing. They all thanked me over and over that evening for the trip. The trail has informative signage for the flora, fauna, and geological formations interspersed throughout the trail and the tidbits were so fascinating that even my teens were reading every word.

It was between this and the Polar Caves and I am so glad we went to Lost River! What a fun adventure we had, crawling through the all the caves. I managed to go through all eleven while my boyfriend made it through ten (the squeeze is not for everyone). There were some seriously gorgeous views. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area.

Well maintained and safe platforms and trails throughout. A lot to see. Very physical so not a great option for those with limited mobility but if you are in good shape, it’s a really cool place! Highly recommend for families but note that the gorge is quite steep and you’ll want to keep children close because there are plenty of natural hazards for those boundary-pushing tikes.

Awesome place. Lots of stairs as they'll tell you. But well worth the exercise you get. Lots of caves to check out. Most you need to get down on your knees to enter. You find out how in shape you are. Or aren't. Lol.

I highly recommen this experience. The river is changing every year just cause you e seen it once dose not mean you shouldn't go again. Take your time explore and enjoy the much cooler temperature on a hot day. The lookout trails are worth the additional steps all day!

Highly recommend Lost River Gorge in Franconia Notch State Park. For $28, it’s a solid deal. The boardwalk trail takes you through boulder caves, waterfalls, and overlooks. Crawling through caves was a blast, and the history and geology add to the experience. Great for families, but also fun if you just want an outdoor adventure in the White Mountains.

There are a few places in NH that I had been wanting to visit, this was one of them. I wasnt sure how it was going to be, because at first I thought it was a hike but its more like a Museum so there is a entrance fee but it was well worth it. I kind of wish I brought my little nieces and nephews because all this time I was focus on the waterfall and bridges but there were so many unique crevasse and caves, that aspect of the exploration was a unique adventure they would have absolutely loved. It was not to difficult in the walking (I am a big guy), but there are alot of steps and inclines but its tolerable. Also love some of the unique wood carvings on the additional rites as well. There is also a rich history which was refreshing to learn about that I want to go back and study some more. Parking is a little tricky, there is alot of parking but it does get somewhat packed. Overall nice experience, worth a stop if your in the area.

Really awesome hike with tons of bear caves. The trail is fairly challenging with a LOT of stairs, so be mindful if that's not your jam. The views were gorgeous and so were the water features. My thirteen year old son and I had a blast!

Absolutely loved this place! Lots of stairs, but so worth it. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The walk was nice and cool on a hot day. Amazing views! Fantastic waterfalls. The ability to skip any caves you want. We also did the sleuth at the end and our toddler got to pan for gemstones! It was great. Def check out!

Our family loved the gorge and caves. We’ve been to NH a few times, but our kids are on the younger side so this was a first for us. The boardwalk is not only a great help to get through the gorge, its craftsmanship is amazing. The hand railings are rounded and smooth, and we were even able to chat with one of the carpenters on our visit as he installed a new section of boardwalk. The caves themselves are not really caves in the traditional sense, rather the negative space between boulders and the earth & other boulders. That didn’t detract from their awesomeness as it’s amazing to think that these giant boulders were moved by ice. We spent about 2 hours going through the caves and doing the extra loop through the suspension bridge. My boys tried a few caves more than once and even made it through the Lemon Squeeze! The main building looks newer, is very clean and comfortable. There isn’t somewhere to sit in the shade, but we weren’t there long enough to really miss that’s however, if you brought a lunch or had someone in your party who needed to wait this one out, there are some picnic tables surrounding the main building.

Great trip for adults without kids had fun and felt we were able to do all the cave experiences and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Five stars as I saw zero Descent creatures.

This was an amazing experience for the whole family! The lemon squeezer is smaller than you can imagine. The kids had a blast and the hike was well worth it.

We had a blast visiting here. We did all but 1 of the caves. At 6' tall it wasn't happening. Lots of solid built stairs leading all around the boulders. Great platforms for some nice scenery shots, especially the large nest at the end. A great place to visit during a hot day. The temps are much better in and around the caves. Such a peaceful place to visit. Nice clean restrooms in the main building along with a gift shop. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Fun morning or afternoon, but a bit pricey for what it is. The caves can be challenging, but you can turn back easily on any of them. I think I was as fascinated by the construction of the boardwalks as I was by the nature of the gorge. Note you must walk out through the gift shop and past the mining area. Wet conditions also lead to closure of some of the cave attractions. Make sure you check the weather for the day before and of your visit. Lots of rain even the day before could mean closures. Check the gorge report.

This place is gorgeous. It is privately owned, so there is an entrance fee, but it is worth it. The walk/hike is easy and completely on wooden paths. Lots of stairs, so be aware if it is raining that it can be slippery. We were waffling on going, but are glad we did!

Awesome adventure and be one with nature! If you're agile and can crawl into low spaces, it's there for you. If not, you can still enjoy a stroll on the wooden walking paths and see something spectacular made by nature! This is definitely a New Hampshire must do! I went on a Tuesday and there was no problem with overcrowding.

Wonderful change of pace. Took our boys, 7 and 2.5 yrs, we did most of the caves plus no walking complaints from the older one. Great friendly staff, clean facilities, well marked and maintain pathways. Definitely worth the money plus the kids want to go back so win win.

We had an amazing time, (2 adults, a 2yo, and a 6yo) we felt that the stairs, boardwalks and caves were very well maintained and that alone seemed worth the ticket price. We felt safe the whole route, staff seemed to be present and floating around. There were first aid kits periodically and everything was well marked. Our 2yo had to be carried on and off through the boardwalk but we anticipated that. Roughly 1000 steps through the gorge and boulder caves and we did it in about an hour. We skipped some of the caves due to our size as grown-ups but there were plenty that we were able to make. If my 6yo was a little older or more adventurous she may have been able to do more. But we had fun nonetheless!! It's a very cool experience, family friendly and I would definitely recommend! I'd suggest good shoes and long pants for the best experience and be willing to bear crawl a bit!

The trails and walks are well maintained and fit well in the natural environment. The caves and river are gorgeous and fun to explore! They space out the visitors so you don't feel crowded or rushed, allowing time to enjoy the views.

This gorge is definitely worth a visit. I’d say the minimum amount of time you’d want to spend here is one hour, but I could’ve easily spent 2-3 hours here. The walk itself is made up of steep steps at times. Going into the caves is optional, but if you’re up to it, this really makes for the best experience.

Even though we went on a drizzly day, the Lost River Gorge was a super invigorating experience. The path took us to beautiful views that just got better as the clouds subsided through the day. The caves were a dream come true for adventurous kids and it really brought out the playful side of us 25 year olds. If you are able I definitely recommend getting on your hands and knees and enjoy the crawl through the caves. Lastly, I felt incredible safe throughout the hike. The paths held up in the rain and weren't slippery and the park staff blocked off the caves that were made unsafe by the rain. The effort to keep such a unique park in great condition for the public to safely experience made it well worth the admission price.

It was a cool spot but not at all worth $24 per person. I understand that they need staff to keep it clean and accessible but for the price this park was very underwhelming and lacking. I went with my boyfriend and after paying almost $60 we were expecting some great views and fun caves however he wasn’t able to join me in majority of them as they were simply too small. We are both petite in frame I’m only 5’2 but no one tells you that most of these caves are kid sized and you simply won’t fit. I’m not blaming them but having known this prior we wouldn’t have paid and went.

Such a gorgeous place to visit in the White Mountains region for any age of nature lovers. Must try all/most of caves that so much fun. Spoiler alert, there's 1 fall with a beautiful exclusive waterfall inside it, which will amaze you immensely. Highly recommended during the fall season.

I had such a blast visiting the day at Lost River Gorge in Woodstock NH. The atmosphere was awesome. Going into several cave systems was so much fun, beautiful, challenging at times and memorable!! I also walked the ecology trail as an extra bonus event after the caves. If you haven't been to the Gorge before, it's a must visit!!

Awesome excursion! Takes about 2 hours if you do everything. The boardwalk is very nice and the boulder caves are fun! Some are pretty tough for an adult to navigate through. The lemon squeezer has a special place in my memories. Very nice views a cool place to check out!

I brought my son here when he was very little and we both had a good time! Though he wanted it to end ? the visit much more quickly than myself because he wanted pizza ? for lunch! I returned recently because I could not remember if I had actually visited this place or a place similar to it. Once I observed the entrance building, the memories started to return. The walk was easier this time because I knew what to expect. The views were still great! I was the first one to arrive and for about a half hour, I felt I had the park to myself! I met people from Maine who said they pulled in next to my car and wondered where everyone was. I explored the Glacial Erratics, Rotunda, Shadow Cave, Judgement Hall of Pluto, the Guillotine, Bear ? Crawl, Dungeon, Center of the Earth ?, the Cave of Silence, not of the ? lambs because that cave was very quiet ?, Parallel Rocks, Giant Pothole, which Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't try to fill, Devil's Kitchen, Cave of Odin and Sun Alter. I was a little dirty after exploring all that. Squam Lakes Natural Science Center had an exhibition at the Gazebo with several species native to NH. It was unexpected and interesting! The gift shop was nice and the staff were friendly and informative. The men's bathroom was in great condition! The Lost River Ecology Trail was moderate with some terrain being easy. There is a makeshift mining ⛏️ set up for the kids. I really recommend a visit! It may be cheaper to purchase your tickets online.

Even with the rains, it was an absolute joy exploring some of these caves as well as the trails. I would only recommend that if you are more..."voluptuous" in figure there are couple tight spots even with just doing the stairs and wouldn't recommend going into the some of the caves as they do have narrow pathways. Kids had a blast here as far as I see as young as 4/5 years old upward. Took about an hour and a half just because we stopped to take piks. But it would take less than an hour, though.
