Stop thinking about it, and just go have an evening at this restaurant, and stay overnight if you have the time. They have a whole calendar of unique events. I made a huge mistake and booked the wrong week for one of their dinner and history talks, and they could not have been more kind and gracious about it. They found us a table right away, and we had a great spot in the front room to hear the history lecture. It's not easy for a small restaurant when a guest makes this kind of mistake, and I felt terrible about it, but they made sure we had a great time anyway. Every course of the dinner was fantastic! Don't skip dessert here. Just go. Do something different, drive up to Virginia City, take your critics hat off regarding posting reviews, and have a good time and good food with good people in a beautiful Nevada historical setting. The bar is gorgeous too!

Oldest Hotel in Nevada and a historical site. Haunted but very Cozy with a great Staff. Great Spot if you happen to be a Bills fan and a game happens to be on too!

So I went to cancel my room due to a death. They have TWO cancelation policies, where they pick and choose which one to apply. One says you’ll get a refund if you cancel prior to 48 hours. The other says you won’t get a refund on a room deposit if you cancel? So my family member dies and you decide to choose the one where I don’t get a deposit back for the room, how convenient. No, I’m sorry to hear that. None of it. The rooms aren’t five star, this isn’t a five star resort. Please stop acting like it is and have some decency. Thanks for keeping 133.38$ of my money over a random death. Great job!!!! Also, the drink specials are a rip off and the food quality has gone down hill. You’re better off staying in Carson for street vibes and riding in to VC for the day. ***IN RESPONSE TO THE HOTEL: YOUR RESPONSE IS GASLIGHTING, IT LACKS TRUE EMPATHY, AND TRULY SHOWS THE TYPE OF PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS HOTEL. I DIDN’T PLAN THE DEATH. YOU ARE NOT SORRY. YOU PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE SAT THIS ROUND OUT AND NOT RESPONDED. YOU DO STRIKE ME AS SOMEONE WHO MAY NEEDS THE LAST WORD. I DON’T WANT TO STAY THERE AGAIN. THATS WHY I DIDNT MOVE THE DATE. THE WAY YOU TREATED ME ON THE PHONE WAS NOT ANY FORM OF HOSPITALITY. DO BETTER.

My son and I stayed here for a little getaway and we fell in love with this hotel. The hotel is beautifully kept and gives you a warm welcoming feeling. It has a nice country side Irish pub feel to it. The owner and staff made us feel at home and like we were part of the community. The rooms were beautiful and very clean with balconies and the food was wonderful. We watched Sunday football with everyone as we enjoyed our breakfast. The cook and my son got along great! 100% recommend and will definitely be staying there again!

The hotel in general had visual attraction. The bar was unique. Texting with the hotel front desk regarding checking outside the front desk hours was a good experience. We attended Christmas on the Comstock and our check in was planned for after the fireworks. We were to pick up the key at the bar. Our check in was less than welcoming. We finally received directions to our room. The route to our room was shrouded in complete darkness. The walk in the was not a delight and it was a struggle to find the room and open the door. The room was cold and the portable radiation heater gradually warmed the room. The hotel experience was not pleasant.

We held our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Gold Hill this October and the experience was less than desirable. We had sent our menu and our requests in before the deadline and the invoice was paid in full at the appropriate time. On the day of our rehearsal dinner, I received a call three hours before we were supposed to go down there and dine from the owner, Jill, stating that our invoice was incorrect and she was confused about the menu items. I had gone over the menu items with their manager previously to make sure everything was in order. I called Jill back and she stated that we owed $194 because the invoice was not calculated properly. This was three hours before the event, when they’d had weeks to look over the orders and invoice. We had already spent thousands of dollars for the private use of the room and everyone’s food selections. Jill was rude on the phone and wouldn’t let me speak as I was trying to explain that unfortunately the invoice we had received and paid for was finalized, and that if there was a mistake on her end that she needed to deal with that in house with her manager. Jill simply stated their manager made mistakes “because she was old”, and we would need to pay. To avoid embarrassment from my party and our family, who were all in attendance—when we got down there, we went in and paid the additional $194. The staff was very nervous and out of sorts. I was kind to them as we know that wasn’t their fault. Many of my guests still did not receive the items that they had requested, and that we had already paid for. I had to pull up my own spreadsheet to show the servers who got what and what went where. Many of my guests still did not receive the food that we had paid for, but were too embarrassed or didn’t want to make us upset, so they kept quiet. As I mentioned, we had rented out the space privately so it’s just our party in there. There was one large table they had backed up so close to the windows that any time anyone needed to stand up on that side, everyone had to stand up so that they could move about. I have frequented the Gold Hill hotel and restaurant for many years as it is one of my favorite places in Virginia City to visit. I thought it would be the perfect place for our rehearsal dinner; the food has always been good and the staff has always been very welcoming. This was an entirely different experience. We spent thousands of dollars to not only be treated inappropriately but to have food items missing that we paid for. I would not recommend this venue for any private event that you are hosting. Unfortunately, I will not be venturing back to their hotel or restaurant—which is a shame because it hosts rustic charm and there is a peace surrounding the area. To say I was disappointed in the owner’s decisions and actions would be an understatement. As a business owner, there are ways to handle mistakes on your staff’s side in a professional manner. Calling me three hours before the rehearsal dinner and staying we owe you more money after the invoice and menu was finalized is ridiculous. It was a mistake on their staff’s end and unfortunately we had to pay the price; not only in the food, but in quality of service and atmosphere. I was looking forward to treating our friends and family who traveled hundreds of miles to attend our wedding. It was supposed to be a night of celebration and family, especially having lost my father unexpectedly right before the wedding. It turned out to be an upsetting and awkward evening and completely unprofessional. Seek other venues for your event.

Spent 3 days there for a wonderful wedding ceremony .That staff went over and above the expections,to make everything go as smooth as possible. I for one will definitely be coming back! Talyor is an amazing bartender, she went over and above to make everyone happy with everything they wanted. Becky took time to so us around the rooms, before she showed us to ours, even though we were there 3/4 hours earlier than check in time. Very cheerful and helpful the whole time to help us. The staff was amazing to work with, and happy to assist with any thing needed for our comfort. The cook even reserved his last chocolate/carmel bundt for me.(It was definitely amazing) We're definitely coming back, to enjoy more of the town, and surroundings!!! Thank? You!? The Gold Hill Hotel was the perfect classy wedding venue. Along with stunning views of the Yellow Jacket Mine and surrounding mountains, the hotel’s historic 1800s charm and the equally beautiful bar and restaurant, complete with a wood-burning stove, offered a unique experience unlike anywhere else. We could host both the ceremony and reception at the same location, and our guests all stayed in Gold Hill Hotel rooms to avoid having to drive anywhere. They also had golf-cart and shuttle recommendations to transport us to and from downtown Virginia City (about a mile away). Jett, the event manager, was very helpful, drawing on her years of experience, and gave wonderful recommendations. The friendly servers and bartenders took excellent care of our wedding party with Virginia City hospitality. Even the sweet owner came over to wish my husband and me well. The rooms, each one furnished with different antique furniture, ensured a one-of-a-kind stay. Everyone enjoyed chatting on the balconies while soaking in the breathtaking views. I highly recommend grabbing a coffee or drink from their restaurant and enjoying it on their wrap-around porch, complete with barrel tables. I love that it is far enough from downtown Virginia City to see the stars and enjoy Nevada’s quiet beauty, yet only about a mile by car to the boardwalk and festivities. If given the chance, I would choose the Gold Hill Hotel for my wedding day all over again. My friends and family talked about the experience for months after.

My Sister and I came in for a drink last night and we were completely ignored. We were so excited to get a Russian Doll Cocktail, and we could not get anyone to help us….the place had maybe 8 people. Bartender would not help us. I asked a waitress if we could sit at the tables to order drinks and she said “yeah” but would not serve. After 30 minutes and completely shocked, we left. Extremely disappointed

This is going to be a long review! So first, this hotel is Nevada’s oldest hotel. So some things about the hotel are very old. I stayed in room 11. So this is what I’ll be reviewing. I stayed Monday to Friday. The restaurant or bar wasn’t open until Thursday because it’s off-season. They had a nice area with coffee set up, there is no coffee in the rooms. At least there wasn’t in my room. There isn’t much in the line of amenities, if that’s the thing you’re looking for. They only had shampoo and bars of soap, no conditioner, or body soap. The lady at the front desk called me ahead of time to let me know that my room key and a map to my room would be hanging on the front door, which I appreciated and thought that was really nice of her to do that. The hotel was pretty empty and a little spooky since there was nobody in it! Now for my room: I’ll start with the good stuff first. The beds were comfortable, they were nice and padded and comfy. The TV was a little weird, there was no cable or satellite, but it was a Roku TV so you could watch Netflix if you put in your password and signed into your own Netflix account. There were free channels and live TV but no local channels so I couldn’t get the news from any of the local stations. There is free Wi-Fi although I didn’t realize the password to the Wi-Fi was right there in front of my face and when I asked the front desk lady, she got a little snotty about it and said didn’t I read the paper in my room and no I didn’t….. lol! There is ice in a freezer in the hallway for everyone to use as well as a microwave. There is no microwave in the room and no refrigeration so if you need to bring medication that has to be refrigerated, you will be SOL. Now for the not so good things: there was a lot of cosmetic damage, like semi holes in the wall in the bathroom, big scrapes in the wallpaper and just overall damage to the room that could be cleaned up if somebody put some effort into it. Completely un maintained. The carpet was absolutely filthy, I mean disgusting. I didn’t even wanna walk around in my bare feet or with socks on. There was mold in the tub and on the shower curtain. There was dust all over the heater that was falling apart in the bathroom. There were no blankets on the bed just sheets and bedspread, but there were a couple of old blankets in the closet and I was praying that they were clean because I used one. All the furniture was old to match the decor of the building, but it was warped and not maintained as old furniture should be. Inside of the closet was very dirty and scrapes and black marks all over the wall all nothing that a good coat of paint could fix. The curtains were hanging by a thread, there were no blinds to pull. The curtains don’t close all the way, so I don’t know if I was giving the world a peep show or not. I tried closing them the best I could, but the one on the right is falling off. The chair in the room is old yes but it is also filthy! I wouldn’t sit on it. Also, don’t leave any food in the room because there’s ants. Maybe because the building is old or maybe they need an exterminator. I was there in 2003 and the place was plush and pretty immaculate. I know it’s gone through a lot of change of ownership and it seems that the owners have not maintained it whatsoever. If I was the owner of that place, I would go room by room and spend one day just fixing this stuff. It is a unique situation for business owners up in that area, that rely on tourist season for business. My sister owned a business up in Virginia City so I know the struggle she had when it wasn’t summertime. So I’m sure it’s hard for the business owners for the Gold Hill hotel as well. But cleanliness should always be a top priority. Will I be back? Absolutely not unless I hear that they clean the place up. The highlight of my trip to Gold Hill was the kitty that lives there! He was so sweet and cute. I look forward to seeing him when I came out of my room every morning to walk downstairs and get coffee. I normally leave the best reviews I can but this is the best I can do.

Great history here. The hotel is as authentic as it can be. So don't expect modern amenities. There is no elevator so be prepared to walk up and down stairs. The balcony rooms have the best view and the restaurant on site is one of the best in town. Enjoy the history staying here and you will be rewarded with the great food and drinks.

The Gold Hill Hotel is such an awesome place. It oozes history and you feel like you have been transported back to the days of the Wild West. In fact we loved it so much our first time there, that we decided to get married there and have returned every year to celebrate our anniversary. The owners and staff have become like a second family to us. Every year when we go back it’s always hugs, handshakes, dinner, drinks, story telling, catching up, and dancing on occasion. They have an excellent restaurant and the bar is perfect! Cozy and friendly and after an hour in there you feel as though you’re a local. Tony and Jill ( the owners ) are great people. Never too busy to spend time chatting with you. They always make us feel right at home. If you happen to be a Buffalo Bills fan then this is your place. Tony and Jill are huge Bills fans. I highly recommend you check this place out and ask about the ghost stories. Have dinner in the restaurant. The food is excellent! Finish up the night with drinks in the bar. You’ll be happy you did. And just like us, you’ll be back.

Worst hotel stay ever! What a shame. This place went from nice to terrible in one year. We discovered it last year on our way to Yosemite, booked one of the historic rooms and had a dinner at the restaurant that was to die for. We later learned the chef was trained at Le Cordon Bleu. What we really liked about the place is that it was a quiet respite from the loud, partying atmosphere of Virginia City. How disappointing that all has changed.||This year, we booked two stays. One night on our way to Yosemite, and one night on the way back. The first night was uneventful, other than we forgot one of our travel pillows in room 12. After three attempts to email the hotel bounced, I finally reached the bartender who assured me she would get a message to the owner to save the pillow for us on our return trip in five days. Upon arrival, she recognized me and asked me to let her know if the pillow was not in our room and she would ask the owner about it. It was not, and I let her know.||We then went to dinner at the restaurant and noticed a live band setting up in the bar area, which was directly under our room (#4). The band was scheduled to play until 10pm, which was not ideal for us, but reasonable. We had a dinner that was mediocre, at best, plus two glasses of wine for a total of about $150.||The band did stop playing promptly at ten. Unfortunately, the loud partying and blasting of music over the bar speakers went on, and on. Sometime around 10:30, I went downstairs to find out what time the bar closes. I was told they don't have a set time. The bartender asked if the music was too loud and I said YES!. The volume was turned down and I returned to my room to try and get some sleep. About 15-20 minutes later, the volume went back up. At this point, I was seriously considering going out to the parking area to sleep in my truck! The noise went on until at least midnight, maybe later. If loud partying and excessive drinking are your things, this is the place for you. On the other hand, if you book a hotel room expecting to sleep, stay far away from this place. Oh, and the pillow was never returned.

I called and reserved room 5 I spoke with the owner. I asked her if there was a place to eat, and she said that there is a bar downstairs that we can get something to eat from them. So I thought we would be all set. I guess I should’ve checked into it more further very very disappointed. We had room five and was supposed to be a haunted room. The carpet in Room five was filthy dirty huge spot left side of the bed. The mattress Needs to be replaced I couldn’t stay on the outside. I kept rolling in the middle very uncomfortable. The window frame in very bad shape, you could stick your fingers between the wood and the glass..The porch is in such a disarray that I was afraid to go on it. I thought we would fall off of it. Very, very disappointed in the price and everything. Oh by the way the bar was not open this week. There was no place else to go to eat. The bathroom had mold in the corners not happy at all with this place. You should never rent room 5 out to anyone ever again. Very disappointed customer!!!!

Stopped for some drinks and appetizers, bartender very sweet and friendly, food was mediocre and pricey for what you get. Easy to fix just a little more R&D on your Bisque and Mushrooms to get them closer to your price point. Great atmosphere.

Phenomenal location for an overnight stay, dining or drinks. Steeped in history and beautiful views it should be on everyone’s must-visit list when exploring Nevada. They perform scheduled ghost tour and dining events which are incredibly engaging and fun perfect for a date night or unique experience with friends or even solo. Jill and her team make you feel welcome and like one of the locals. Can’t recommend it enough! We stayed in our Noovo caravan booking one of their two boondocking / dry camping spots through Harvest Host; taking part in one of their ghost tour and dinner events. The entire evening was a blast and incredibly memorable; we slept great and will definitely be stopping again when we pass back through.

Very unique Hotel, the oldest in Nevada! We stayed over Memorial Day Weekend and enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. Staff was friendly and service excellent! The bar and restaurant are on site as well, which makes life easier . Especially if you want to have a few cocktails and not have to drive to find a place to eat. There are also several RV sites where you can Boondock available through Harvest Hosts I believe. I would highly recommend this establishment!

Very old and historic hotel not too far from Virginia City! I booked for two nights in Rosie's room, a very cozy room with a view and loved it. I also enjoyed being greeted by the hotel cat, Garfield/Cloudy (depends on who you ask) and the woman at the front desk was friendly and cool to talk to. If you want to stay here know that their restaurant and bar isn't open at the beginning of the week and it can be very quiet and lonely if you stay the night!

Nestled in the heart of Gold Hill (south of Virginia City), Nevada, the Gold Hill Hotel & Crown Point Restaurant offers a unique historical charm and modern comforts. As part of the Harvest Hosts program, they welcome RV travelers, providing a convenient and welcoming spot for those seeking a restful overnight stay and a delicious dining experience. When we arrived early in the morning, the staff made us feel at home. Jill at the front desk greeted us warmly and guided us to our overnight RV parking spot. We were eager to explore downtown, and she took the extra step of arranging a ride for us. While waiting, we popped into the bar, where we found a lively atmosphere and a friendly bartender who made us feel at ease. We enjoyed dinner at the Crown Point Restaurant’s bar area that evening. We kicked things off with their crispy calamari—perfectly seasoned and a great start to the meal. For our mains, we savored the Cowboy Ribeye and Lobster Ravioli. The ribeye was tender and flavorful, while the ravioli offered a satisfying seafood twist. We also struck up a conversation with some of the local regulars, adding to the welcoming vibe of the place. Our peaceful stay at the Gold Hill Hotel was made even more memorable by waking up to a dusting of snow in the morning! Between the warm hospitality, comfortable accommodations for RV travelers, and a fantastic dining experience, we can’t wait to return. Safe travels and happy dining!

Nice hotel but no one available to check in. Everything we needed in hotel. Free bottle of champagne because we in booked dinner with róom. Food good but one server for 14 tables. Long wait for food and they brought salad, soup and dinner all at once. Overall nice stay but severely short handed in staff. 10 minute wait in bar before even acknowledged.

Overall, my experience at the Gold Hill Hotel Restaurant and Bar was nothing short of exceptional. If you're looking for a wedding venue that offers a blend of history, charm, and beautiful scenery, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend the Gold Hill Hotel for any couple looking to make their wedding day truly unforgettable! I recently dined at the Gold Hill Hotel Restaurant Bar in Historic Virginia City, Nevada, and it was a fantastic experience! The restaurant exudes charm with its rustic décor and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The menu offered a delightful selection of dishes. I enjoyed their signature steak, perfectly cooked and full of flavor and the cocktails were creative and refreshing. The breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains added to the experience, especially as the sun set. We finished with a delicious house-made pie that was a perfect ending to our meal. In addition to being a wonderful restaurant, the Gold Hill Hotel is also an exceptional wedding venue. Its historic charm and beautiful setting make it ideal for couples seeking a unique location for their special day. I highly recommend the Gold Hill Hotel for both dining and unforgettable wedding experiences!

The hotel is charming and very clean. Check in and out was a breeze. The building is old and historic.||The restaurant is wonderful. White tablecloth, reasonable, very good food. The chef introduced himself. Food was fast and each dish and side was excellent.||The bar is old stone, fireplace and charming. Everything is right priced - not expensive or cheap.||A “gold” mine in the middle of nowhere. Check it out.

My group came here to stay in Rosie’s room, we loved everything about it. We had so much fun and didn’t have any issues. The staff is super nice and Cloudy is the sweetest little thing. We will be visiting again soon. This is Nevadas oldest hotel I believe, so keep that in mind when you plan your trip. This isn’t advertised as a modern hotel, so expect to be taken back in time! Definitely a quaint experience!

Had dinner here last night with a small wedding party of about 12. When we first got there, went into the bar which was a great little bar. Staff was friendly. We all had to preorder our entrees a few weeks before so the table had our names with what we ordered when we arrived. The salads came out quickly along with the appetizers. Then a couple people were served their main entrees. Then maybe 5-10 minutes later a couple more people got theirs. Then it was like a standstill, nobody else got their food. My husband mentioned something to whom we thought was the manager that half the table was missing their food while other people were almost done eating. He came back aggressively with “this isn’t like Olive Garden with lots of chefs, I only have 1 chef back there and he was doing the best that he can” Finally about 30-45 minutes after the first round of food came out the rest of us got our food. This is not okay, we just don’t understand how it would take that long for the meals as it was all known what we were having and I am sure prepped ahead of time. It doesn’t take that long to cook a piece of salmon or chicken to be 30-45 minutes difference in time.. I will say the food was good and most of the staff was nice and the atmosphere was great. But if your having a big group dinner and want to eat together, this might not be the place.

A great little historical hotel and restaurant. I live close by and it is the best restaurant in the Virginia City area...maybe 1 mile off the main street south of town. Good burgers. Great chicken. My wife loves the salmon. I have not used the hotel but did look at the rooms. Quaint and unique.

Stayed here for a few nights last week. The beds are really comfortable. I was in the old section of the hotel ("Rosie's room") with antiques and a four poster bed. The cast iron tub was heaven! I went on the ghost tour and had dinner at the Crown Point restaurant on Thursday. The food was excellent! And the ghost tour was really cool - we talked to the ghosts! Extra bonus, the hotel cat "Cloudy" joined us on the tour and even came to visit me in my hotel room right before I left on Friday.

This hotel is very good, it looks great, is clean and has friendly staff. The lady on the reception desk was so helpful in helping us move to a room where there was no foot end on a bed ( as my husband is very tall) she also spent lots of time and helped me plan our route to Calveras to see some red wood, all this and I forgot to leave a tip! We also had to ask go off menu in the restaurant and they did their best to accommodate. Great stay. Lovely looking hotel. Would recommend.

This was the best experience we could have asked for. From the moment we arrived the staff greeted us with excellent hospitality. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated sending us to a time period back in the 1800's. The bed was very comfortable and our room was super clean. The location of the hotel is super close to Virginia City and the views are stunning. They offer a shuttle to go into Virginia City which was so nice, because this week stay was very busy and parking is limited in town. The hotel restaurant offered delicious cuisine and the bar is super cool to have a drink and relax. They also offer a nice patio to sit and take in the beautiful views. Our stay at this hotel was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations, and I can't wait to come back again.
