Stopped in for dinner and was disappointed the full menu wasn't available as stated on website. They did however accommodate us with chicken fried stake dinners which were delicious with country gravy and homemade mash, only lacking a vegetable. Service was excellent. Bar was very chilly and prices were high.
We stopped at The Old Saloon on a whim because we were hungry, and it ended up being a great surprise.
The waiter was very friendly and recommended the chicken fried steak, which was outstanding. We also ordered huevos rancheros, fish and chips, and the fried chicken with a spicy honey butter muffin. Every dish was flavorful and really well done.
The saloon has a real country vibe and a lot of personality. The decor feels authentic, and the small details really stand out, including the funny “butt cheeks” photos in the bathrooms ?.
Solid food, great service, and a place we’d happily stop at again.
Highly recommend stopping in for breakfast! We arrived early with a party of nine, and they seated us without any trouble. We had kids with us, and the staff went above and beyond—splitting plates, cooling down hot chocolate to kid‑friendly temperature, and making sure everyone was comfortable.
Portions were just right, and the home fries were fresh and perfectly seasoned. I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken and Biscuit, and it was outstanding. The biscuits were flaky and delicious, and the chicken with hot honey was incredibly flavorful.
Service was excellent from start to finish. Thank you for such an enjoyable meal!
New owners changed menu and reduced selection. I'm not a fan of the fried foods and sandwich based lunches.
The best part of the restaurant was breakfast. It's now only served until noon. I guess I won't being going there after church.
We were staying in emigrant for a couple of weeks and came to the old saloon twice and both times the food was perfect! The best country fried steak I’ve ever had and on Friday the Prime Rib was amazing! A definite must visit!
We stopped here for a quick breakfast on a Sunday and wow, the service was SO FAST. We hardly waited for our food. I got the steak chilaquiles which was so yummy. The steak was cooked perfectly, I want to come back to this place and have steak again! My husband asked for the rancher breakfast and he loved the bacon. A true hidden gem that you have to try. I can’t wait to go back!!
Delicious steak, broccoli, mashed potatoes, and fries! Fun trivia night on Tuesdays too! Plus the server made sure we were able to see the Northern Lights that were happening outside
Great old saloon. Cool to visit. They had an extremely limited dinner menu when we visited today. Only burgers, chicken strips, and chicken sandwich. The server didn't know why the full menu we saw on google was not available. We had drinks and moved on to another place that had a full menu. Worth a stop but, if you're hungry, have a drink and move on.
Fantastic food and service! Elk meatloaf was absolutely outstanding. Bread pudding so delicious as well. Great atmosphere. So comfortable. Everyone around us was smiling and talking/laughing. Not loud. Was nice. Like everyone was at home.
One of my favorite stops in the area. Very cool atmosphere. We only ordered a couple appetizers and drinks, but it was just an all around good time especially with the band outside. 10/10 will definitely make sure this is a stop again in the future.
The establishment was clean and inviting with friendly staff!! I tried the Elk meatloaf with mashed potatoes and asparagus and my mouth waters just from the memory! The balance of robust flavor,cooked with precision and delivered eloquently is truly the Old West etiquette and hospitality that was experienced! My son shared the same opinion of his Ribeye steak. What an art to hit all of our senses! I was telling the Waitress how we were from Wisconsin visiting and so glad to stop since it was snowing nicely however, my driver side wiper flew off. The waitress happen to have extra wipers in her car and offer to get them so we could make it to a truck stop to replace. She came to the parking lot to help secure the wiper and had zip ties too! She said you have to be prepared in montana! I owed her more than a tip! Wonderful experience wholeheartedly!
Not what it used to be! It's been a while since we've been to the old saloon and decided to stop in as a treat after our long weekend in the woods. Same friendly staff as always, but the food has gone downhill significantly. I ordered the BLTTA and was disappointed to find it much smaller than usual and topped with an "avocado crema" rather than avocado. The crema had an acidic flavor (maybe lime?) that threw the whole thing off. My partner ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy which didn't have much gravy. The biscuits looked to be burnt, canned biscuits. Overall feels like the new owners are trying to cut costs, sacrificing quality while still keeping prices high.
Hell of a bar and venue offering real Western charm and cold beer! Saw Wyatt Flores perform here this summer, and I can’t recommend going to a concert here enough. I also had some pre-show questions via email, and the staff was super helpful/responsive.
A Hidden Gem in Emigrant!
The Old Saloon is everything you hope to find when you stumble into a historic western bar, authentic, welcoming, and full of character. From the moment we walked in, we felt like locals. The staff was friendly and quick with a smile (and a strong pour!).
We came for a drink and ended up staying for the live music, which was surprisingly top-notch. The vibe is laid-back but lively, with a perfect mix of old-school charm and Montana grit. The food hit the spot too, nothing fancy, just hearty and delicious.
Whether you’re passing through or staying nearby, the Old Saloon is a must. It’s the kind of place you remember long after the trip is over. Can’t wait to come back!
This place was amazing! We stopped for lunch and had remarkable service. A lot of great options on the menu. If we had been there during times of music, there’s plenty of seating.
Amazing concert tonite. But I’m leaving a bad review to get the attention of the owners. Please, please, please put out seating for the disabled, handicapped, and challenged. It was more than difficult to find seating to watch the concert. There was plenty of seating for those drinking, but it’s off to the side with no line of sight to Oliver Anthony. There are bleachers, with limited seating, but it’s not handicapped friendly. I, myself, am an amputee and I need to sit intermittently. We were not allowed to bring our own seats. It was beyond disappointing to take all the time and effort to attend this venue, but to feel so dismissed as a human being. I’ve never left a bad review before, but felt it necessary to speak up for those of us that get lost in the shuffle. Make some changes and maybe I’ll come back.
We visited on a Sunday night so there wasn't much going on. The ambiance is great and the drinks were decent. I would like to visit again when there is live music or something eventful happening.
Nice place to stop for lunch. Mediocre food, the salad was delicious! Patty melt was good, but a poor presentation on the plate. It was just the patty melt. Walley fish and chips were okay, not a lot of flavor . We were satisfied, but always room for improvement!
This place had the best music, the best bartenders and servers, the most prompt kind service a person could ask for and a casino that was gushing! I can't wait to go back!!
We were disappointed as we did not know that they weren’t serving lunch as their kitchen is closed on certain days, but we did get some wonderful smashed burgers from the food stand out front. We were able to carry our food inside where we ordered our drinks.. the atmosphere in this saloon is amazing!
Quaint little eatery with some tasty classic dishes and a great old world vibe. They play to their strength in the sense that the decor and ambience is indeed that of what you would expect a really old saloon to be. There is an outdoor venue, which could be used for live performances, and I am told attracts quite a crowd every now and then. We really liked it and if in the area then it’s well worth a stop
A must-see for visitors. The food was amazing and the atmosphere cannot be beat. The history can be seen on the walls and on the exterior. The chicken fried steak, salad, soup, and elk were all amazing. Hostess and waitress were super nice and welcoming.
The food was tasty, the staff was welcoming, and the ambiance was nice. Only a small hiccup with a mistake in the sides with the burger and the temperature of the meat. Otherwise, everything else was great. They did comp our drinks and offer dessert on the house. That was much appreciated. It's worth stopping in for a bite to eat if you're in the area or passing through.
Do not leave this establishment without ordering Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake. I warned you.
I will forever remember my meal here because of two memorable dishes. I had the elk steak with brussel sprouts and for dessert I coerced the table into getting a portion of Stivky Toffee Pudding Cake per two people. On hindsight, we should have gotten our own. And perhaps a pre-dinner portion and a post dinner portion - it’s that good. I considered driving 2.5 hours back when I was in Phillipsburg just for dessert.
The elk was tender and delicious. Sprouts yummy. Elk meatloaf - spicy and tasty, though if you are getting elk to see what the meat tastes like skip this and go directly to the elk medallions. I recommend meatloaf with the mushroom or country gravy. The pasta is a large portion and also yummy. But the STAR of the show is that Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake. I will forever dream of it. Get it. It is worth the price even though you probably wouldn’t spend that if you were at a home restaurant.
The atmosphere and service was really great. This isn’t fine dining and it’s definitely lives up to the name. I had the ribeye and it was what I expected, so no it wasn’t the best I had but remember it’s a saloon. Live music was really awesome and folksy. The locals were very inviting and entertaining. I recommend going for drinks and apps.
We stayed in Gardiner for a few nights and the Livery Stable was our most enjoyable mea that was within 30 min. Very friendly service and great, rustic atmosphere. The portions were large, huckleberry cocktails were loaded & yummy, and food was served in a timely manner & meat cooked perfectly to order.
