What clients say about A & B Wrecking Yard in East Helena (MT)
-
Pros:
1. They have alot of cars
2. Customers pull parts
Cons:
1. Returns cost 30% for restocking fee. So if i buy a used muddy soft rolling tonneau cover that has bent parts, missing parts and bad velcrow for 100 dollars. Then that falls on me for being an idiot. But i clean it up, repair the damaged parts, but ultimately decide to just return it because it is missing too many pieces... i drive all the way out there, they have several employees there working. I have my reciept in hand from literally yesterday. The guy at the desk said i would have to talk to a different guy on a different day if i am attempting to return anything. I said that ill let them keep 30$ for the restocking fee. He said he couldnt. I offered to return in for half what i paid for it, he still wouldnt. I asked how much a basic cheap bottle jack or scissor jack would cost because i needed one today. He pointed to a pile of ones that looked like they were from the 70s. He said 20$. Home depot, walmart, harbor freight all have brand new basic krapy bottle jacks for under 20$.
I asked if they would consider selling a whole vehicle from their yard for a thousand bucks. He asked which one. I refered to a 90s nissan d21 pickup, 4 cyl that was in a head first collision. He said no, because they make more money than that just selling one part at a time.
Another employee said 50$ for a used alternator for a 96' nissan 4 cyl d21 (tiny 2wd truck). I am glad that i did not buy a used grimmy alternator thats been sitting in the weather for a decade. Can't exactly test an alternator there apparently. And hey! 75 dollars for a re-built alternator from a store on ebay. They have over 20 in stock and it comes with a 5 year waranty.
My tax return comes in in a couple days.
I was going to buy the following for my nissan in 5 or 6 days:
- A truck bed liner, (from their red 97 d21)
- A rear bumper with the mounts and tow hitch and ball, (from their red 97 d21)
-Air intake manifold (from a 90s 4cyl d21)
-An entire engine wire harness (from a 95 4cyl d21)
-A driver seat
-2 90s nissan bottle jacks
-Splash shielding
-Possibly a set of rims if they would sell the rims without the tires on them.
And for my tundra i was going to buy:
-A passenger seat with all the controls.
-Fuel tank
-2 or 3 cross members depending on access and if they would help me to lift the bed off.
But ya know... check rockauto ebay junkyarddog websites. Or the other salvage yards. Personally i will drive to Darby and buy from Honeys yard over A&B any day. Even if all i need is a resistor or window.Feb 15, 2026 -
Not very inclined to go to a place where ya can’t really see any postage signage, and then your first interaction is a guy ripping your door open and starts off by screaming at you. Humble your employees and teach them some due process.

I’m sure it’s great if you can actually find someone to help you. I called and the guy could see me but never actually came out so I just didn’t know what to do. Customer service could probably use some improvement on the phone.

There's guys were very knowledgeable about the cars in their yard. They were able to direct me right towards the items I needed. Prices could be a little better but that's not going to stop me coming back.

A very well put together auto salvage yard. They were very helpful and willing to even move a car for us lol

Great group of A+ knowledgeable people that work there. I drove up from Kalispell for a Chevy tailgate. They were extremely busy and the whole staff was very polite and very helpful. The price was considerably 2/3 less than anywhere else for one in perfect condition. They have an enormous selection of trucks and cars. I Highly recommend A&B Wrecking Yard. They'll have more of my business in the future.

Massive selection of cars/trucks, pretty well sorted/organized. Fair prices, some of the vehicles are really close but staff is pretty helpful in assisting to get the jobs done and get you the parts you need

I found an old steering wheel I liked and it wasn't complete or anything and I asked what it'd be worth. Someone said "I think $75 but I'll have to check when you bring it up" and I thought once they saw it wasn't complete they'd realize it isn't worth 75 dollars. I pulled it and walked it up and another guy came up and asked what I was told it was worth. I said "your coworker said hed have to check when I brought it but he mentioned $75" now without even confirming he said "I'll take 75." And I said "it's not complete, if that's the lowest you'll go im gonna have to pass, but I appreciate your time" and he took the wheel behind the counter and said "dont go pull parts and then haggle with me, that's not how this works. You can get out of here" and kicked me out. Now I haven't had issues here in the past but this guy specifically was pretty rude.

Large diy salvage yard, tons of cats & trucks of all makes/models. Decent enough room to work between vehicles. Was able to get all the hardware I needed for a pretty ok price. Staff were very helpful.

I got a altinator that sopped working after a couple weeks and they let me exchange it no problem and the new one works great

I have been here many times with ok service however I came in to get a mirror off a car at 445pm when they close at 5pm. Refused to allow me to get the mirror which could have taken 3 min. It's literally 3 bolts.

They helped me considerably with a heater/ defrost bliwer fan I already was needing - and let my car cool and supplied antifreeze and water when my car serpentine belt went out on my way back from Great Falls to Helena.

These guys rock! If you are like myself, and enjoy getting to checkout a variety of vehicles, and in various conditions. They have always done right by me, and have helped me learn a bit more about automotive.
I have low income, and my vehicle is my freedom, they make it possible for me to afford what I need, and have a solid return policy on many parts.
Thank you to all the staff at A&B Wrecking, ya'll truly are good folks.Nov 06, 2023 -
Me and a good friend of mine went to this wrecking yard on 6/20/23, I had on a backpack with tools in it. They said if I'm wearing a backpack than they assume we were there to steal lol. I told them it's not a problem that I could leave the backpack with them or back in the car but they still kept going with the assumption that we were gonna steal.. I've never been to this place in my life and they have know idea who I am, I work very hard for my money and I don't need to steal anything because I have money. Makes me very disappointed in people that go and make assumptions like that. I understand they gotta protect their business but do it a different way instead of just outright offending people

You can find just about anything you need for your vehicle here. The yard is organized well so you can easily locate the section with your vehicle's make and model. Reasonable prices. Helpful staff.

The guys were super helpful fair prices. I came to pull some seats out of a truck didn’t have everything I need and they helped me out with no hesitation. I will definitely be taking all my business to A&B they have plenty to pick from

I needed a door for my truck ASAP and for a good price. I messed up the dates and forgot about the day I went down to pick up the door on New Year’s Eve. The owner was generous enough to still let me get the door. Worth driving all the way from Kalispell!

I called them about a part gave them a very descriptive area of where it would be and what it was and then they proceeded to tell me they didn't have and that the part didn’t exist. Then i drove down there 40 miles to find a pump i needed the next day and they had the exact part i called about. When i was going to get a inline fuel pump i was there at 12:00 and they said they would pull it for me and then i went down there to check it out and they said come back the next day when pulling a fuel pump takes 10 minutes maybe. They used to be a good place to get parts but not anymore. I will be going somewhere else if it takes 24 hours to do a 10 minute job. Green meadow auto salvage is a better option because they will get straight to business and get you your part.

The younger staff were extremely helpful and cheerful to work with. However the older staff weren’t as helpful.
I talked to Mike about purchasing a vehicle whole and he refused to make a deal because he claimed the truck was too new and he could make more money off of parts. Even though that truck was from the 80s and is nearly 50 years old.
After discussing about that vehicle. I had talked to him about grabbing two engines, a transmission, and miscellaneous parts off of three separate vehicles. He told me he would sell it to me for $1000. Not a bad deal even though we didn’t know the condition of any of those parts. Although I had $1000 cash he told me I needed to come back when I was more serious about buying.
It was once easy to purchase parts and vehicles from A&B Wrecking Yard. However, they aren’t willing to work with you anymore and prefer just to horde their vehicles.Jan 12, 2021 -
Used to be an awesome place to go get parts. When I bought my first pickup it was awesome to go find stuff for it. Stuff I didn’t know I needed. Unfortunately some other people have ruined the experience by damaging the rest of the vehicle when trying to get to a specific part. Tried going there today and I wasn’t even allowed to look for stuff anymore because of these other people. It used to be like a thrift shop, stuff was always cheap, and you paid for it when you went to leave. Tried to buy a pair of aftermarket headlights off a beat up truck and some guy working there wanted to sell them for $30 more than what I could buy them brand new for (even though they were used and beat up). LOL Why would anyone else buy them at his price when for the same exact ones you can get them cheaper online? It’s his business though and I’ll just take mine elsewhere.

A friend asked us to stop and pick up a part that he needed for a repair job on his used vehicle. We had limited time but wanted to help. I was concerned that we would be here a while as they located the part. To my delight the part was all ready to go and it took less than two minutes total for us to be in and out!

Very positive experience the first time I went there! Mike was very helpful and understanding with what I needed! Then I had to go back a second time and I was very pleased yet again. They remembered who I was and where willing to work with me for the parts I needed. Not to mention they have a huge selection of vehicles and they are relatively easy to locate. One downside I'd have to point out is parking availability, but that is about it! Local, friendly, and willing to work with you. What else do you need? I recommend these guy any day of the week. Thanks for being helpful, crew at A & B Wrecking!

So many in the auto wrecking / parts industry seem to have an edge to them, almost like they really dislike their job and those that call on them! For 25 years I have had nothing but positive exchanges with Buzz and his crew and now Mike is carrying on the tradition Al started. These guys are true auto enthusiasts through and through and enjoy helping you solve your auto related needs, 5 star all the way!

My cars are all getting older, 1998, 1999, and 2001. I've had little, crucial parts break on my yukon and my bonneville. No parts available online or through dealers. But, allowing me to walk through the yard and find the parts I need, and letting me pull them is great. They've been helpful both times, pointing me to cars in the yard that they think will have the part, and they've been right both times. Fair on price. Will use them again, as I'm sure I will with my cars being the age they are :)

Specifically identified which part I needed and due to the communication between employees I received the wrong part after I had driven from great falls 90 miles away. Cost me over $350 between lost time and the trip with fuel and such. Be sure you have the correct part. Wouldn't trust them to send the correct part via shipping. Good luck. Hard to find any compitance in this industry any more. Will not use again unless absolutely necessary. Which in this case, it was. Maybe my mistake.... Hell no!!

We were there at about 5:15 knowing they closed at 5:30. We were just trying to ask if they had a part and we explained to them that we would come back tomorrow to pull it because we knew they were closing. Bill then walked up, had an attitude, and proceeded to tell us it was 5:30 and to come back in the morning, then slammed the door in our faces. We understood they closed at 5:30 but it was only 5:15. The way he talked to us was very unprofessional and rude. I will not return and I urge other people to take your business elsewhere.

I've gotten two cars through AB Wrecking. They gave me a screaming deal and were very friendly and professional! They also made sure the fluids were good and the vehicle was running sufficiently, etc before I took it home. A++ company, definitely would suggest them to my friends and family.
