I was looking to do a weekend personal retreat to just unplug from the world. I had been here two times before and knew that this was a great place for me to unplug. The atmosphere was serene and beautiful. The best part is you are free to join the monks with their daily prayer services or go off and do something else like be in nature or sit in their peaceful library. It doesn't matter if you are catholic, protestant, or not religious at all this place is a great place to unplug, breathe, and soul search.
I just completed a silent retreat, “Encountering Christ” at Conception Abbey. It was one of the most inspiring experiences I have had in years. From the moment I arrived and a monk opened the door of the guesthouse welcoming me, until I departed, I felt true hospitality. My private room was spotless and comfortable. The meals were delicious and nutritious. The conferences given by Fr Xavier were very interesting and sparked a desire to learn more. As our culture is turning more away from God each day, this was a true renewal of faith. To participate in Mass and the Divine Office with the monastic community was life-changing. I hope to go back someday.
Solace, reflection, devotion, peace, serenity, love, harmony, spiritual, acceptance, welcoming, stewardship and glorious are just a few words that come to mind as I describe Conception Abbey, basilica, monastery and Seminary College. The many catholic brothers who reside here are devoted to their faith, vows and service while encompassing their individual and unique talents in unity.
I’ve had the pleasure as a invited guest of my partner’s (during the last 3 years) who is a Benedictine Brother in the religious community of the Companions of St. Luke, in the Episcopal Church. The monastic Brothers and Sisters come biannually for Convocation lasting a week.
Conception Abbey is the perfect place for prayer, whether you want to do it alone or with others. The brothers are personable and love to meet guests. I visit regularly, and will always come back.
This is a monetary of Catholic Benedictine brothers and priests. Along with a seminary college and guest/retreat buildings. They have approximately 1,000 acres of land in beautiful Northwest Missouri. A very spiritual place to come and "take a look at who we are, where we are, and what were doing. Lovely location for all who need a quiet place of prayer, reflection, meditation. I'm not Catholic but the monks, and seminarians are so warm, kind, and welcoming.
