I was in my first accident ever last week and the team at J's was incredibly helpful. Brian (I think that was his name.) came to tow my car from the accident and he was kind and understanding and handled my car with care.
Angie and Ashley went above and beyond answering questions and explaining the process and advising me on what questions to ask my insurance company (definitely not something they had to do).
I really didn't know what to expect but the entire team at J's was great to work with and, while I hope I won't ever need to, I would call them in the future if I ever need a tow. Thanks to the whole team!
1 star because the lady was nice at first. My trailer was in the back yard for a night and it was towed down the street. I could not find it and thought it was stolen. When I went to report the stolen trailer. The police said J's Southland Tow Service has it and to call them. I called and they are now charging me $3800-4200 to get my new trailer back (it cost $2500) and is cash only. Filing a police report. Stay tuned!
Called them to tow 5 mini excavators. They asked for the make and model. I gave to them....after being put on hold I was told to give them weight and dimensions....really...I just gave them model numbers...Google ain't their friend? Well I called Andy's wrecker in Ottawa to take care of me and they are. Sorry southland...u lost out on 5 or 600 bucks because of ur phone answerers
I would give zero stars if that was possible. The drivers for this company drive like crap. They cause accidents all around them because of the way they drive. They overcharge people to pick up their cars. Disgusting people to the core.
Driver just rides your ass with 2 empty lanes next to me and I’m already going 10 over…. Based upon other reviews you should really educate your drives as a business
Very scammy they require you to let your vehicle go to their lot I stead of the shop you need it to go to then charge you $1,800 to let it sit in their lot.. they are a straight up scam and practice predatory towa.. avoid at all costs
My wife had a flat tire near Longview Lake. Called J’s Southland Tow In 45 minutes my wife was on her way to work!!! So great to work with professionals !!! Not sure of their territory but of you are in easterns, southers Jackson County and need tow, a jump, unlock your car, flat tire……call these guys!
Scott came to an accident involving my mom. He was great. He stayed with my mom until the ambulance arrived to see that she was safely assisted. He then towed the vehicle where I requested. Thank you, Scott.
Although I deal with J's Southland Tow on a professional level on the regular, today I got to experience their generosity and compassion for people when they need you most. A lady I work with who's son passed away unexpectedly at 35 years old worked at a shop, where we went to help her pick up his tool boxes. We thought they were going to help us load them, at least they told her that they would. When we got there , they quickly Left us to ourselves to get it done. I noticed that J's was across the street, so I went and told them our situation and they quickly obliged us. Thank you so so so much for your help! I know the mother of the boy is forever grateful as am I.
Just had one of their drivers but me off at a light. He turned from the middle lane and nearly cause a wreck. You would think a professional driver would know how to drive correctly. I'll never use these guys. Imagine if he had my car hooked up to him. It would've been totaled.
I was stuck blocking traffic and waiting for my insurance company to send the tow truck. Jeremy saw me and stopped to offer help, even though I told him I was just waiting for the roadside assistance tow to show, he stayed with me until the two truck showed up He even helped them load the car!!! I felt so safe as he stayed with me and this shows this company really cares about people. I will only call them from now on, I trust this company so much based on this experience alone. Thank you Alex for saving me! My car died at the worst possible intersection. A very nice cop called a tow for me, and they got there in 5 minutes. Plopped my car on the truck bed and dropped my daughter and I to the mechanic shop. He even helped me push the car in a parking spot.
Reasonable price and the truck was nice and clean. Definitely recommended and ask for Alex if you ever need a tow.
I got hit on the coldest day of the year and it was pretty upsetting. As soon as Alan got to the scene he made everything really easy for me and had me get in the cab. He did a great job navigating a busy area to tow my car, working in the cold, and was very friendly and helpful even though I was visibly upset. I don't know much about car wrecks.. so I was also thankful Alan walked me through what would happen next even though it isn't technically his job.
Everything else was smooth sailing, really thankful this company was the one to help me out!!!
I had my car towed by Southland Tow after an accident, and while the tow truck driver was fantastic and very helpful, my experience with the company afterward has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing.
After my vehicle was taken to their lot, I was informed that there was a lien on my car and that I couldn’t retrieve my vehicle or any of my belongings until I got the lien released and obtained my title. I was understandably concerned about how long this process might take, as I didn’t want to rack up excessive fees while waiting for the paperwork. The person I initially spoke with assured me that once I had the lien release and title, I could leave the car with them in exchange for the documents and retrieve my personal items.
Over the next 10 days, I did everything in my power to obtain the necessary paperwork. I was set to receive my title the next day, so I called Southland Tow to inform them. However, I spoke with a different representative this time, and suddenly, the terms had changed completely. I was now told that I had to bring $325 in cash in addition to my title, just to retrieve my belongings. This was never mentioned before. When I explained what I had previously been told, I was informed that the $325 was the towing fee and that the agreement to “keep the car” only covered the daily storage fees.
What made this even more infuriating was their claim that the daily storage fee was $100 per day, despite the paperwork I received on the day of the accident clearly stating that the fee was $30 per day and that all credit cards were accepted. It felt like they were deliberately changing the terms and demanding cash to take advantage of my situation.
At this point, it felt like my personal belongings were being held hostage and that the people running the lot were simply pocketing extra cash from desperate individuals. The only thing I wanted out of my vehicle was a sentimental item that holds no monetary value but means a great deal to me. I was devastated by the way I was treated.
I asked to speak with the original representative who had assured me of a different arrangement, but instead, I was transferred to someone else who simply repeated the same demand for cash. The entire experience felt shady, dishonest, and exploitative.
I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone. Their lack of transparency, shifting policies, and blatant disregard for ethical business practices make them a company to avoid at all costs.
Had to get a tow to theniuse.the other day after my alternator belt broke and couldn't be get back on,,. They sent out there driver Sabrina her arrival time was very prompt alot faster then I've had any other time and she was a very professional driver,,., If the rest of there drives are as good as her this will be a tow company in it for the long haul
$234.00 because I locked myself out of my truck. They never told me price before they opened my door and honestly was expecting 80 dollars but I can’t believe after he opened my door, he said 234 dollars. Just WOW is all I can say. My fault but that is a crazy amount. Basically almost a full days work down the drain.
Can you believe $62000 (sixty two thousand) for towing and reload the load, 6 hour of work for towing company. It wasn't super crazy accident it was simple all they do tow truck and trailer 30 miles and moved load from one trailer to another. $62000 this amount our company making a year and towing company overnight
$22000 twenty two thousand for transload ( reload ) 10 pallets and keep 10 pallets in damaged trailer for 5 days
$40000 forty thousand for tow truck and trailer 30 miles and keep it for two weeks.
Never Use this company. All off this was setup by state trooper who called for this towing company and state trooper got good benefit from this company. Great team made $62000 for 6-8 hours of work.
The biggest thieves in Missouri and the worst thing is that the police support them. They took my truck without my consent to their yard just 10 miles away in the presence of the police and in order to get it out they charged me 1000 dollars in cash. Nothing more to say, thieves protected by the city police.
This is, without doubt, the most dishonest company I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with.
It is a little bit of a convoluted story, so if you are reading through the whole thing I apologize for the length.
I was driving from Arkansas to Lawrence Kansas following my parents because their car was acting up, and I had AAA, and wanted to make sure they made it home safe. Their car ended up breaking down in Harrisonville, Missouri. AAA messed up and basically called two towing companies - Southland and Pearson. Pearson called and said they were on their way first, but they were an hour out. Pearson said that I didn't have to stay since they were so far away, and they'd get my info when they dropped off the car. So, we ended up leaving for Lawrence (bad idea in retrospect I guess).
Then Southland called me and asked if they could come pick up the car. I told them it was already being taken care of. Apparently after that the local PD found the car and the wheels weren't far enough off the shoulder and sent out a request for it to be towed right away. Southland answered the call and came and towed it knowing full well someone else was literally on the way. They did not mention to the police they knew someone was already on the way (I called to PD to confirm). I also asked the PD if they "had to impound it" or if they could have just run the AAA request and towed it, and the PD said they could do either - as far as they were concerned, they just wanted it off the road - no rules and where it went.
So, not only did they not tell the PD there was someone on the way to tow it, instead of calling AAA and running the request and get paid for an honest day's work, they chose to impound it and charge us $662, and then they had the gall to offer to tow it to Lawrence (for an additional price of course). I called AAA and asked why Southland didn't run the AAA number and tow it where I requested, and they said they were just as upset about it, and offered to reimburse the impoundment costs, but they couldn't force Southland to tow it at this point.
I tried talking to Southland's manager at one point, and she said she would talk to the Owner of the company and see if she could work something out, but she never called me back. I tried calling again to get a hold of her, and the employee I talked to said "it was Monday and the manager was very busy and couldn't talk to me".
I don't think they did anything illegal, but I know scummy behavior when I see it, and this has been the absolute worst of it. I hope AAA gets enough complaints they drop this company as a vendor - it makes them look very bad.
I will never use this company again. I had an inoperable vehicle that was towed to my new home. I handed the driver the key to the vehicle we discussed him leaving the keys and where he would leave them instead of him telling me the key got stuck in the ignition he just played like nothing was wrong. I called in about it the lady was very defensive like it was my fault and tried to charge me to get the key out when her driver stuck it in there in the first place. Kept asking me what i want them to do to resolve the issue but wanted me to pay to get it jumped for them to come get it out of the ignition they will never get another nothing from me.
Used J's Southland twice since Friday. Once broke down on the side of the road and second to transport to a dealership. Both times, the lady on the phone was pleasant and helpful. My tow arrived promptly and got us where we needed to be. Thanks for the help Southland!
First big snowstorm of 2024, and found myself needing a tow and quick! I called these guys and the sweet woman on the phone was so quick to get my info and get someone dispatched in no time. Despite all the cars almost hitting us, the driver and his truck, he remained calm and kept reassuring me the entire time. What felt like over an hour on the side of the road panicking, was really only about 25 minutes and we were in route. While I did not catch his name unfortunately, he was worth his weight in gold. Thank you, J's Southland Tow, for bringing me some peace during a not so peaceful time.
Wow. To say we were impressed is an understatement. I cannot speak more highly of J’s Southland and their staff. They are efficient, reliable, highly skilled and very easy to get a hold of. On our first call later Tuesday evening, the woman who answered was able to get us a quote within minutes. She then got us scheduled for our non emergent tow the very next morning… and even followed up a few times with updates on the crews ETA when my husband was figuring out his work schedule.
Not only was it easier than ever to get their service scheduled, but Jeremy and his crew showed so much skill in completing our F150 tow service from a very confined space in our backyard. The truck had been stranded for months sinking into the mud, parked to the right and behind our driveway and only inches away from our detached garage. We have a very narrow and curved driveway with minimal space as is… but Jeremy was not phased and quickly pivoted to bring a second truck and smoothly (and successfully without a single scratch!) maneuver the vehicle out of our small plaza backyard and onto the tow truck. Prices very reasonably for the time and effort this job took. we truly feel lucky to have found Jeremy and his people who made this experience fast, easy and STRESS FREE!
I approached a business with his tow trucks blocking my access. I asked one of them to move which he did ... but he came back and parked in the same spot still blocking my semi. I got out to ask if he could relocate again and he rolled up his windows and sat there for another five minutes.
He did tell me he was the owner.
Both of us had a job to do but his child like behavior makes me question using his services.
We needed a medium duty vehicle to tow our truck and trailer when we broke down. Another tow service referred us to J's and I am glad they did. The office staff (Ashley specifically) was amazing. She was very professional, friendly, and made sure to get someone dispatched to us quickly. The driver arrived and went above and beyond as well. Helping us get our truck to a local dealer, ensured my driver's made it to their hotel safely, and went above and beyond as well. While I hope I don't need to be towed again any time soon, I would definitely use them again if the need presented itself.
We used Southland a few weeks ago when a tire blew on our boat trailer. After waiting an hour and a half for the company our insurance had contacted, we decided to call someone on our own. They were to us in less than 10 minutes of my call and got us back on the road quickly. Tonight we (unfortunately) had another tire issue, but were in the Lawrence area. We called Southland and they made a great recommendation for a service local to where we were. I would 100% recommend Southland and although hopefully we won't need them again for a long time, (lol) we will definitely use them again!
Very happy with the service I received from Southland tow today. Mike did a fantastic job taking care of my pickup, and was able to drop it perfectly through my narrow garage door. He was prompt, professional, and friendly through the whole process.
