⭐ 1-Star Review for Owens Scrap Metal Inc (Latimer, MS)
I’ve been going to Owens Scrap Metal for nearly 20 years, and after today, I’ll never be back. This place has always been hard to deal with—rude customer service, unorganized operations, and unfair pricing.
Despite being a licensed HVAC technician with my EPA card on file, they consistently made me wait multiple days just to get paid for AC coils—something other scrap yards handle same-day without issue. The staff act like they hate being there, and treat customers like an inconvenience. Asking a simple question gets you attitude. Needing a basic accommodation gets you talked down to.
Today was the final straw. I brought in two HVAC coils—just like I’ve done many times before—and they refused to buy them just because I wasn’t in the same vehicle as usual. No help, no solutions—just another example of this business wasting my time without care.
Over the years, I’ve also been shortchanged on scrap prices, especially with non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminum. They count on you not knowing the market value so they can offer less. I’ve likely lost hundreds, if not more, trusting them to be fair. That was my mistake.
Their operation is dirty, their attitudes are worse, and their professionalism is non-existent. There are much better scrapyards nearby that will treat you with respect, pay you fairly, and value your time. Avoid Owens if you can. They’ve been getting away with this behavior for far too long.
I have been dealing with the Owen's family scrap yard for almost 50 years and haven't had a problem that they didn't satisfactorily solve for me. Everyone is going to be having a Monday morning every now and then and be a bit testy and ruffle feathers. I always think about the time a R.V. black water tank burst while being moved by a loader,spewing forth stomach turning detritus all over the Owner, I chuckle under my breath and understand. Bless your collective hearts and I will always do business with the Owen's scrap yard family ,even when they may be paying less for a particular metal,because they are real folks.I was compensated for an error in metals Identification a few days after the mistake was made and even approached by an apologetic employee with a check in hand. I have been going here for years, since I was a teenager and so have my uncle's before me. When I first started Mr John was getting around good. He was a good man. Anyway yes best prices around but have to keep your eye on certain employees... Lol... They've always done me right and everyone else I know. And to all you complainers, about everything, for #1 you have to come more than once to be able to complain and if another yard is paying more, then you should've done your homework before you came here. Princes fluctuate every day and so do the prices between businesses.
Make sure you take a picture of the scal showing you weight every time and have the person at the station know your doing it. Have her/him stand in the picture. They like to accidentally Ckear it. You get taken
Kind of pointless to have a scrap yard open to the public that closes at 3:30 when most people don't get off till 4 or 5, and they aren't open on the weekend.
The guy in the office could give a smile, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt him. But yea, thanks for your quality service from the guy who took our beer cans. Very nice guy.
I just want to say I brought my copper to Owens last week and the young guy that helped me was very helpful! It was professional from the time I pulled up till the time I left and went back 3 days to get my check and everybody was very helpful. Well done Owens
The Old Guy Is RUDE AS HELL.... When I Left There... I Noticed My Car Wasn’t Sounding Rite.... When I Stopped & Looked At My Tired.... There Was A Big Bolt or Somethin That Was Stuck In My Tire... & When I Called & Told Them Bout It.... 10 Mins After I Left There.... The Guy Tells Me That He Takes His “METAL DETECTOR” & Get Up ALL THE METAL UP... I Told Him That He Had MISSED A SPOT & My Tire Is Goin FLAT ON ME.... Well They ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE 4 ANYTHING THAT HAS HAPPEN.... I SAID.... MY GOSH I JUST LEFT THERE 10 Mins Ago.... It’s NOT LIKE IM CALLING AN HOUR LATER & Saying This... But I’ll NEVER GO THERE AGAIN....
Well, my first time going and I have to say the owner met us with a . He helped us through the process. He talked to us like he been knowing us for years. The lady behind the counter was awesome as well. The guys running the machines were very helpful. I have to say I will be back

Well I made my last trip to this confusion pit.... the walking Skeleton behind the desk needs to move up to the next strongest drug cause the one he taking is not cutting it anymore... it’s a shame too, Cause Ms Kari is awesome..... Between the Bank having to call to verify a $27 check , and this walking skeleton taking the phone off the hook cause he is tired of answering it...... HELL. I’ll drive to moss point.....
I called them twice in case I miss understood the first time about what they were paying. They are 1.50 lower than everyone else. It’s a shame since they are very close to me but I want use them even if the fuel to Pascagoula or Gulfport offsets the gain just for low balling the public.
The guy that works up front is rude as hell! Literally threw a pen and piece of paper through the window at me!! I can't help u hate your job! Looks like he is on drugs!
We went to scrap my old car. This was my first visit there, they were all friendly and helpful, made it a painless experience. Of course I wish I could have gotten more money for it, but I felt like it was a fair price.
Best yard in southern Mississippi . Very competitive prices, normally highest around. Employees are great and helpful especially when separating and understanding different metals.
Very rude folks. Dont waste time with copper at this place. They wanna deduct 5 lbs for the totes that they make you put your copper in. Had 2 defferent kinds so -10 pounds if not more. Assuming thier scales are accurate. The totes dont even wiegh a pound. Ive checked cause i have the same totes.
Almost impossible to get in and out of. There is one way in and one way out leaving everyone in each others way backing in and out so plan on spending at least an hour there. The people are very nice but pay much less than other scrap yards. I found out after I left I could have got about 10 cents more per pound else where
