What clients say about Chesney Auto Salvage in Duluth (MN)
Called on a Wednesday for a sway bar, they told me they had one but could not get it out till Friday. Called again Friday and they said they did not have a work order or even remember talking to me, so then they told me it would be done Monday, I call Monday and they don't even have one. And every time I called the guy I talked, gary, was rude, never getting parts from this place.
No discount for cash? more expensive than Rock Auto sometimes for when I needed a spare rim, glove box striker. I may be a, "Kid", but at least I know what good service is.
front counter people are rude. they dont know what inventory they have. overpriced. asking retail on used parts you can order thru rock auto for the same price.
Good parts. Low on staff at the moment. So, a little slow. But always come through.
They had the right part the first time. Works great 👍 Thanks CHESNEY AUTO SALVAGE !
Drove an hour and half in the snow with all my kids on a doughnut to get 1 rim that I needed. Got there and they wouldn't go pull the rim off because it was 15 before they closed and they wouldn't even let me go out and do it because the "yard" closed at 4. I'm a girl without a ton of car experience but can change my own tire and I could've pulled the dam tire off in the 15 minutes that was left until closing time. I know it sucks when people walk in right before closing time but if you're open you're open, that's how it's always worked everywhere I worked. My fiance tried to give them a second chance and called ahead to see if they could pull the rims and then could just run down and pick them up but they said it would be 2 weeks before they had time to go pull off a dam tire. Ordered them from a place in grand rapids and will have them tomorrow
Kind people great prices always got what I'm looking for
Had what I needed and the dude that drives the skid steer was polite
Called to check on a box for a truck. Online said it was grade A when I called asked if there was any rust. Guy said nope none on it. Told him I have a three hour drive one way sure there is no rust. He said no again. When I got there the box had almost as much as mine does. Would recommend whomever grades it keeps them up to date.
they unloaded the car before they even told us a price! they dropped the car off of the trailer and dented the trailer! and then after the car was taken away we asked how much we would get! we were told to call a random number! at the end of the day all they gave us was 150$ was definitely a waste of time and money! will not be going there again!
Needed a transmission for one of our trucks, drove up 2 1/2 hrs and bought it, found out it was the wrong fit from the shop we took it to, so we had to return it. They made it easy for us (we returned it within a week). Customer service was good, was treated well. Don't see a reason not to return. Thank you!
My fiance drove an hour here to get some tires and rims last time he was there they said 200 for them all and when he went there today he took them off the vehicle and they tried saying 360. So he wasted 2 hours doing that and then didn't even get them bc they gave a different price. He went there thinking he'd get them for 200 bc that's what they said last time.
It was really fun looking at how huge that place is, and looking for your part, they tell you kinda where you should look, but the hunt was fun very helpful guys too, thank you!
Showed up at 4 to pull parts on my own because they are too lazy to have common parts like rims pulled and they don’t let anyone in the yard after 4. They are closed on weekends how do they expect to sell any parts if they are barely open. Should have it listed online that they close the yard at 4
They are so rude and unprofessional and unreasonable. All I wanted was a spoiler the guy said I had the buy the whole trunk assembly for $350. Not to mention the trunk was not in good shape what so ever dents cracks rust. All I wanted to do was buy the spoiler but I am not going to spend $350 on a pice of fiber glass. Bet that whole car will just sit and rot like everything else there when I could have just given you 100. Terrible way to do business never ever going back. Also the employee said he would sell it to me for $300 if I disassembled the truck for him and only took the the spoiler guess he is to lazy to do his own job.
I have never in my life had such poor customer service. It seems like none of the guys there want or are willing to help. It's almost as if they don't want to sell stuff. I finally gave up with them and went to Mark's Salvage where the whole experience was a million times better. I wasted almost 2 days on Chesney's. Save your time and go to Mark's or Hwy 210. Both places are a million times better than here.
The guys here have consistently given me bad information on what they have in stock, leading to hours of wasted time and frustration. If you're looking for something you cannot easily find/pull yourself, go elsewhere, these guys are awful. As a general rule of thumb, if a customer asks a question and you provide an answer, the answer should be correct and 8/10 times with these guys it is not and to top it all off, they are consistently rude, dismissive as if people showing up looking to buy parts they claim to have is a bother to them.
I called everyday for 4 days to get verification of a part that they have. They verified on the 4th day that they had my part off and sitting in front of them so i gave a credit card number and they said it would be mailed out on the next business day a week later never got my parts
I saw that they had a pair of 94-95 mustang spindles for 50 a piece I called and verified they were for that car. I paid them over the phone since I live 2 hours away. I received 87 thunderbird spindles which are not compatible at all, I called and complained they swore up and down that's what they came off. I even offered to pay the shipping back to them just to get my money back. I was phone jockied and told they would send a return label. Never happened. Don't deal with these people. They don't know cars and won't fix there mistakes. I have a couple paper weights now. The pic on the right is the correct one. Idk how that can be confused.
Unlike Marks Auto Salvage There are no Yard cars to borrow, everyone is too lazy to bring you out to the pit so you end up carrying all your tools and jack and parts, through the mud for about a mile or so. Then when pay they take an arm and a leg. so point is just go to marks.
Don’t waste your time with this junk yard. I called and asked if they had a part for my truck. I was looking for a box and a jack handle. The guy told me that I would have to go look in the yard and I told him I have a 3 hour drive and just want to make sure they have one before I make the drive. He then told me he didn’t have time to look which I wasn’t looking for an answer right then and there. The guy seems very lazy and not willing to help his potential customers. Just lost out on a decent size sale considering I had a list of parts I was looking for.
I called ahead to confirm they had the part I was after. On the phone they told me they had 3 and that I could take my pick so I made the 1 hour drive. When I got there they actually had zero.
Needed an alternator that was cheap and quick to obtain, since my father always swore by this business I figured it would be our best obtion. Although they do have a very large inventory and had several alternators said to fit our vehicle, we were given very vague directions to find compatible vehicles that still had an alternator. Taking into consideration that it is a junk yard, I didn't expect it to be perfectly organized by any means, but between being nearly impossible to find the right parts, the lanes were impossible to walk down unless you wore rain boots or wanted to wash your ankles in several feet of muddy water. After finally finding a compatible alternator, it was worn and unusable due to hood being left open and exposed to the elements of a junkyard for what looked like years. To top it off as I was gathering my tools, my cell phone crept out of my pocket and fell in the pond lane I had been standing in to take the part we needed out. After a few minutes of playing a good ol' fashion game of "Double Dare" searching through the muddy water to find the flag(cell phone), I recovered my now useless phone. Don't mean to complain because I knew it was gonna be a dirty task, but didn't expect a five minute alternator removal would end up taking over an hour, losing more money by replacing my phone than buying the alternator at a parts store, and still ending up with nothing but water-logged shoes and wet feet. Sure I could have had them find and remove the part for me at an additional cost that was more than half the cost of the part plus a four day wait for them to actually pull the part. It'd probably still be the wrong fit for our car since the same year make and model had three different style alternators and ours happened to be the most expensive and not very common. I'm sure they are a bit more helpful to the Guys that come through than a mechanics daughter.
Rudely told me I can't come in if I don't have a mask on and accused me of kicking cars when didn't. Most the employees are very lazy and don't know how to be polite or respectful. I am rating this a one star because Kevin is a good guy but everything else about the place is very disappointing. I highly recommend Hi-way 210 auto instead!!!
paid $2000 for an eng/trans assy, have never seen it to date, impossible to get thru to, shipping company wants an additional $1500 to release it. biggest scam i have walked into.
I bought a radiator and a hood one day after I hit a deer and my car over-heated and was totaled five minutes later on the way to the shop to install the rad. I called the owner to ask if I could scrap my car there and just get a refund for the parts as I had them for five minutes, and his exact words were "Not really." Besides that, they were really nice and put the hood on for me, and it is still doing a great job of covering my totaled engine. Just don't buy anything under their hoods.
I always come here when I'm looking for parts! The selection is great, and they charge you less if you pick the part yourself. I've never had a problem and always has great service! As everyone should know, when you get parts from a salvage yard, the cars are there for a reason. INSPECT YOUR PARTS BEFORE YOU LEAVE! Salvage parts are sold as-is and its it's not their job to inspect your parts.
They know a lot about the parts they have and always had great service. The one comment on the tire, they don't inspect the tires that well but I know they would give your money back or fix it for you. I had the same issue with a pair of tires I got there, but you always need to look them over first. Plus if you knew she did not know much about cars or tires maybe you should have went with her to show her how to inspect a tire.
Got an engine there and they assured me it was fine (I had to drive quite a while to find it), took it to my mechanic who took off the valve cover and found an incredibly unhealthy amount of sludge and didn't think it would run, the junkyard wouldnt take it back. I highly wouldnt reccommend buying anything more than body panals or wheels from them.
Greeted very [professionaly, had to wait to find part, took about 20-30 minutes, they loaded it for me. Part looked great also, quality on used parts, rare case.. Thanks
