Just a quick stop by for ice cream and some fun and it didn't disappoint! Hosts were welcoming even though they had a lot to do during the holiday weekend. The lodge is very nostalgic with places to relax, games, pool and ping pong. Schooled my son 😉. Fun lake items and clothing to purchase as well! The weather and scenery is absolutely stunning!

I came for the coffee but loved the views and vibe, so I stayed for a few days—lovely, quiet, simple pleasure. Perhaps the ice cream makes it a bit of a guilty pleasure as well. Indulge in the beauty.

Best hospitality I have ever recieved! My partner and I stopped by for a coffee and ended up staying the entire day! On the 4th of July my partner and I were camping nearby and desperately needed to get away from the mosquitos. So we drove into Orr to try and find a public beach. When we stopped by Island View, they offered to let us hang out at their beach for the day, with the purchase a cheap day pass. They let us swim and use the paddleboats and kyaks. It was a lovely day and really saved our weekend! The family who own and operate Island View are extremely kind and generous. We spoke with them throughout the day as they cleaned up the grounds and felt very at home. I would reccomend anyone I know take a trip to Pelican Lake and stay at Island View Resort!

A great place to stop for coffee on our way back south from Voyageurs NP! We called ahead because we were not staying at the resort and they opened the coffee shop up just for us! The view of the lake from the cabins looks amazing, definitely hoping to come back to stay but in the meantime the coffee was wonderful!

This review is by Landon Fett, age 8. There are fun activities to do here! There is a lot of games you can play, like sand stuff and volleyball. They have very nice cabins. They have a very nice beach. Everyone here is so friendly. There is a lot of cool fish. We love it here!!!

Beautiful scenery, amazing couple bringing life to the corner of Orr, MN, that wouldn't be the same without traveling there to see it first hand. We can't say enough good things about this wonderful ice cream & coffee spot, hangout (pool table), deck view, cottage rental and place to be home-away-from-home! My Boyfriend Brian and I stayed at Island View Resort from 9/11/20 to 9/19/20. I have never stayed in such an incredibly clean place in my life!!! Great people working there, friendly, helpful and very nice! We rented a pontoon for the week and had no issues. They kept topping off the gas tank which is wonderful on a lake of that size. The fish in the lake were clean, healthy looking and very tasty. Nights are quiet and peaceful. Great views and relaxing. Can't wait to return. 3/8/23 Update. We have stayed here a total of 3 times so far. We love being here.

Our family stayed at Island View Resort for a week this summer, and had an amazing time! The kids got really comfortable fishing off the dock, and we're pros by the end - baiting and taking fish off their own hooks. We all enjoyed cooling off with some delicious ice cream at the lodge. But the thing that made it the most enjoyable - the family-friendly setting that the owners work hard to cultivate. Brett and Alaine are some of the most hard-working, down to earth, kind hearted people you'll meet. They and their staff were so accommodating - showing us some favorite fishing spots on the lake, helping dock the boat and bring us bait, and chatting while they made us an afternoon affogato. We made memories for a lifetime this summer, and we thank you for making it such an enjoyable experience!

Just spent a week at Island View Resort with some fishing buddies. The place was great, great fishing, great service, great cabin, great rental boats and great weather. Brett and his family are great, they help you with what ever you need , before you go fishing and when you get back with the boat. I have been in the charter boat business all my life, and friendly service is key and Brett you'll have it. Gavin was great, I can't say enough about how impressed I am with him.

We came to Island View in the fall of 2021 with a large family group. From age 2 to 70, everyone had the most memorable time experiencing what northern Minnesota had to offer. But besides an incredible view and beautiful sunsets, the customer experience we received was beyond anything we expected. The owners and their family worked tirelessly to ensure our experience was top notch, and furthermore as our trip had ended, we felt like an extension of their own family. The cabins were clean and tidy, the fishing was incredible (advice from the owner himself on where to go), the beach was groomed every morning, camp fires and s’mores were the perfect night cap. We’re excited to come back next year as there’s only one resort that does it right, Island View Resort.

Best coffee in town!! Was on a was family road trip, and needing a decent latte. That is how I found Island View Resort. Struck up a conversation with owners, Brett and Elaine, and could just feel how much they love running the place. I wish I had know about it before. The cabins are great, the service is top notch, and the location on the lake is incredible. My son and I rented a canoe to check out the bay, but ended up needing a rescue. Thanks Brett! A great place for family vacation or a fishing trip with your best buds. Next time!

If you’ve ever considered a family trip to northern MN, I have the place for you. Island View Resort! This is my family’s 5th trip up and we’ve already booked for next year. We had the most amazing time with our group of family and friends (25!) fishing, playing games, having large meals together, hanging on the boat, swimming and gathering at the lodge. The resort is beautiful, the owners are incredible and made our stay this year the best yet! (the owners and family even organized an over 2 hour “minute to win it” games extravaganza for the kids and let the adults play too - hilarious!). Thank you for the memories! All the kids’ smiling faces say it all!

What an awesome and lucky find! My Dad use to take us to Pelican lake when I was a kid for camping and fishing. I have very fond memories from those trips. Now we are back after 30 plus years with my kids and my Dad. This resort and lake did not disappoint. The cabin was clean with spectacular views of the lake. The Lodge had coffee, ice cream, and homemade scones. Delicious! The fishing was excellent!! We caught Blue Gill, Crappie, Large and Small Mouth Bass, and Northern Pike. We have many exciting fish stories to tell. The Beach was nice. The boat dock helpers were very attentive (Thank you Gavin and Aaron). The Lodge owners Brett and Alaine went over and beyond to make sure we had the best vacation. So many memories made. I highly recommend Island View resort and Pelican lake.

My family and I did not stay at this resort, but did experience the kindness and generosity of the owners. On our way up to Voyageurs National Park for a few days of camping, the axle on our fishing boat trailer disintegrated just as we pulled into Orr. The repair took several days. We were somewhat stranded and had few options to salvage our trip. We stopped by Island View to see if they had any vacancies for us to stay. They did not, but the owners inquired about our issue and offered to help. They immediately went to one of their storage sheds and retrieved a boat trailer for us to use so we could continue north. We agreed to return it when our trip was completed. When I returned the trailer they refused I pay a rental fee. Now that is incredible. What great people. I paid them a modest fee anyway! This type of decency and willingness to assist a person in need seems to be lacking these days. While we did not get to experience what I'm sure would have been a great stay at Island View, we will return in the coming summers to do just that. Give them your business if you are in the area. Terrific people and a beautiful spot to vacation.

This was an excellent trip. The resort is on beautiful grounds,lodge is nice, the owners are the nicest people and go out of their way to accommodate you. Their entire family is beautiful. Fishing good. Lots of Big smallmouth bass. Dock girls were a plus. Use caution on lake, as it is very shallow. Rocks are well marked with buoys though. Great family atmosphere and nice people!! Weather was great.

Our family had the best time at Island View Resort! The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating! The cabins are comfortable and extremely clean!!!! There are lots of activities for the kiddos ...they can’t wait to come back! The fishing was amazing! It’s a great place to spend some quality relaxing time with your family and friends!

IVR was fabulous! Cabins very comfortable, great fishing and playing cards in the Lodge every night. Lots of fun memories for our family. Owners were very accommodating to our group of 33 people! We will definitely be back!

This was a shocking surprise, and an accident! I actually thought I was booking a resort on Lake Superior! Now that I've been to Lake Superior and this resort on the beautiful Pelican Lake, I'll be going back to Island View Resort. The owners take a very personal interest in their guests. There was a cabin not being used and they offered to allow us to upgrade for free. They have a beautiful beach, with an amazing playground that would be envied by most parks. The lodge is beautiful to hang out at with a perfect sunset view. All cabins have a perfect view steps from the lake. It is small and quaint. This is a place all families would want to make a family tradition. They have boats to rent and free canoes and kayaks. Absolutely perfect vacation.

Our family just returned from an amazing weekend at Island View Resort. The cabin was big and clean and the resort sits in a prime location with wonderful views of the lake. The Matthews family are the owners and made us feel especially welcome. We caught lots of fish which were skillfully cleaned by Bobby and Brendan who take care of the dock area, and help launch and dock the boats. For a wonderful fishing or family vacation you can’t go wrong staying here.

My wife, children and I just returned from two weeks in one of the most beautiful locations. Island View Resort is situated on a point in Pelican Lake in Orr, MN.||With 13 cabins from 2 BR to 4 BR, there is room for your family or a group, if you book ahead. With a wonderful beach and water activities as well as fishing that will thrill even the biggest enthusiast, Island View has something for everyone.||The views from throughout the resort will have you daydreaming long after your vacation is over. If you are as lucky as we were, you might experience the Northern Lights so bring your good camera.||The resort is owned and operated by Lisa and John Matthews and their 3 daughters. We have traveled extensively and the Matthews are the definition of perfect hosts. A young man, Brendan, will help you with anything from aiding you with launching your boat or getting you set up with a kayak or paddle board. If you enjoy catching fish but hate the idea of cleaning them to eat, Brendan has perfected the art regardless of species.||I can tell you, you will not be disappointed with time spent here. We just returned from our 13th year visiting Island View Resort. Maybe we'll see you there next year.

For 25 years my wife and I never did the same resort twice. Too many different lakes and opportunities we thought... until we discovered Island View Resort. Once we discovered IVR it became the perfect summer home we never purchased because we always needed to … “move around” For the last three years we have spent a week in July and a week in August at IVR. We are headed up again this August. My son and I do a fall smallmouth weekend in September as well. ||||John and Lisa "get it." They make you feel at home. They enjoy sharing their resort with you. Their family is committed to making your stay memorable. Lisa has worked with us on more than one occasion to be flexible around challenging work schedules and sadly, the passing of a family member. It really is about making the guests feel welcome and happy. Clean cabins, clean kitchens, well-manicured grounds, great fishing and fantastic northern Minnesota sunsets should get you there the first time. A few days with the Matthews will have you coming back.||||We fish long and hard, every day, sun up to after sunset. We are there to fish. But the greatest offering of IVR is the opportunity to, as Lisa says, "unplug." No TV because you are there to refresh and recharge. Away from the other resorts in a quiet protected bay, IVR, is our sanctuary. Extremely noteworthy are the fiery sunsets viewed from the historic lodge on its large viewing deck. We joke about our family all being genetically predisposed to and attracted to sunsets. IVR is perfectly position on the lake and never fails to deliver on sunsets.||||I don't write a lot of reviews, and I tend to be the guy that complains. My family and I have found a summer home at IVR, new friends in the Matthews, a bass fishing gem in Pelican Lake, and a refreshing, peaceful place to unwind in the northern Minnesota wilderness. We are huge fans of John, Lisa and IVR.

Great resort, great lake, great people! Me and my crew have been going to Pelican Lake almost every year since 1991 and have stayed at Island View every time since 2002. The lake offers excellent Smallmouth & Largemouth Bass and when the lake is "on" it's a frenzy. There are also a ton of Pike and while most are small an occasional 36+" will get on the line. We don't fish for panfish but the lake is renowned for huge Bluegill & Crappie, we've caught a few 12"+ Crappie on accident. One great thing about the lake is the low volume of traffic, it's not unusual on a weekday to be able to fish any spot you want and not have another boat within shouting distance. A lot of the lake is surrounded by state land so there's a lot of undeveloped shoreline which helps keeps things peaceful and beautiful. The resort itself is maintained well, the cabins clean and comfortable with full kitchens and baths. Many have nice decks overlooking the lake where you can sit back & relax. The road into the resort is sparsely populated and mostly surrounded by trees & meadows, offering a nice walking experience through the wilderness. The proprietors John & Lisa are very nice & friendly and through their hospitality offer an excellent place to stay for people of all ages. I've had great stays and made some great memories and hope to make many more in the future!

Island View is a great, clean, well-maintained resort. Lisa and John are fabulous hosts. if you are looking for a northern Minnesota get-away you won't be disappointed. There are many different sizes of cabins all with great views of the lake. Every night has a breath-taking sunset.

There simply aren't enough words to express how much we enjoyed our week at Island View Resort with the Matthews. Besides the fact that the amenities were clean and very well taken care of, there were activities that appealed to all of us throughout the week. There were 13 in our group from the age of 6 to 90 so that was quite a feat. The beach was fantastic, the fishing was great and the scheduled activities were perfect for our young people. More than anything, though, the Matthews made us feel like a part of their family. We enjoyed getting to know them and are so grateful that we chose to be at Island View as we celebrated my Grandpa's 90th birthday. There is no doubt. We'll be back.

Our family had an amazing week at Island View Resort. It's a perfect spot to unwind and relax. Great fishing, awesome hospitality, and nice amenities. The kids enjoyed the numerous activities available - beach, playground, paddle boards, basketball, volleyball, ping pong, foosball. I would highly recommend.

This place is awesome! If your wanting to get away for a week or two, look no further. The owners and staff are truly amazing. The Hilcrest cabin was a perfect fit for the 7 of us. Nice and spacious. The fishing was a blast. We caught everything from large and small mouth bass, to perch, crappie, northern pike, and walleye. Not to mention all the pan fish we caught. To be honest, one of my favorite parts of the trip, besides the fishing, was the quiet solitude of the place. No TV, no Internet. Just you and the family fishing by day and, if you are like us, playing card games by night. Truly one of the best vacations I've been on. We made memories that I won't soon forget. I will be coming back!

My family has been coming to Island View for the last 10 years and we are never disappointed. Lisa and John are awesome hosts, cabins are clean, well stocked and well maintained. The boat docks are great, tucked into a small bay and protected from the wind and waves should a storm blow in.The large play area by the beach is perfect for kids of all ages, just steps from the shallow beach. Pack a beach bag in the morning and no need to go back to your cabin until lunch or kids naps! The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Walking is never a problem and the lake views are so beautiful. The sunset from the deck at the lodge is different each evening....bring your camera for great photos. The lodge is a wonderful place to hang out in the evening or on a rainy afternoon. Loons on the lake call out in the quiet of the evening, and we see frequently see deer at the edge of the woods. This is the best resort in Mn. that we have stayed at, and we will continue to re-book year after year. It is indeed "a special place".
