Absolute thieves taking $400 to get it out of their lot after it was towed. Outrageous pricing. Genuinely terrible people

I was towed from a parking lot I was not supposed to be parked in (which I completely understand). When I called to get my car, the dispatch lady was very nice but I was initially told someone would be back to the impound lot after 30 minutes but I ended up waiting close to 2 hours. When I called back after waiting that long, I was told she did not actually have an ETA on when the driver would return so I could retrieve my car. My parents had to come retrieve my car and they waited 3 hours once they arrived. Again, I understand I was parked in an unauthorized lot but there needs to be more transparency when people are calling. I'm a student with a very full schedule so this felt extremely inconsiderate. There's no need to further inconvenience people especially when they have taken responsibility are ready to show proper documentation and pay.

They towed away my truck even though I have a parking pass for my apartment complex. They wanted to charge me $490 because they took my truck down the road if I had to guess less than a quarter mile. They said they charged me $390 because I have insurance and registration. I didn't have my insurance and registration with me because my vehicle was towed away. I called the police and the police ran a lien report and verified that my vehicle was both insured and registered and they still gave me a hard time about it. I went to pay my fee to get my truck out of there and they were cash only. Then I had to use their ATM but I had a $20 limit at the time. Thankfully Ypsilanti Police Department was also nice enough to drive me to another ATM so that I could get cash. Thank you Ypsi PD! Nobody should work with Budget Towing. After what I experienced tonight there is literally nothing good to say about them. I don't know how people sleep at night doing what they do to people. The name Budget Towing is pretty ironic considering what they charge.

I had my car towed for a tire change and my car was stolen! I I contacted Budget towing, they sent Wall Street towing, he asked if I was going with the car. I should have known they were about to steal it!

Excellent experience with a lockout in tough-to-find location. Deisel is outstanding - great attitude, respectful, friendly. Was back on the road quickly. Thank you!

My car was towed in an area where there was no “tow away zone” sign. After looking on google maps street view, it turns out there used to be a towing sign (picture 1), but it must have been torn down by someone and was not present at the time my car was towed (picture 2). When bringing this up to Budget Towing, their response was “it is just a courtesy when we put up a towing sign and your car can still be towed even if there is no sign.” … I didn’t even have a number to call when my car was towed since there was no sign. I assumed my car was stolen and found out from the police that it was towed. The guy at the front desk was nice but the company policy to tow cars from spots where there is no “tow away zone” sign and then charge $330 for it is disgraceful. UPDATE: It’s telling that a sign has since been put back up where it was missing—clearly acknowledging that one should have been there in the first place. Saying ‘if it’s too good to be true, it’s private property’ isn’t a valid substitute for proper signage. Michigan law requires clear notice before towing, and without a visible sign, there was no way to know parking there was a risk. This is predatory towing, plain and simple.

I’ve lost multiple cars due to this towing company. They don’t want you to get the car out so they up the prices on tows and storage fees. Staff is rude. The owner won’t call back just a terrible tow company. I just count the car as a lost if it ends up with them because it’ll be so much money to get out. Something has to happen to this company man for just taking peoples car the way they do. Now that I know the company has auction every month I see why they take the cars. So the owner can sell and pocket the money. It’s just sad how this company does working citizens who really need their vehicles. So please park your cars in safe areas and don’t leave them unattended to long because they will take it.

DONT BE SWAYED BY FAKE REVIEWS - WARNING ‼ Wow! What a nightmare! My grandsons car was stolen 10/31/2024 from the apartment parking lot associated with EMU where he is a student. He made a police report on 11/01/2024 reporting that car was stolen. The police texted later that day stating that the car had been recovered and as results from high speed chase the car was totaled. Police Deputy text the information stating you can pick up your car here. Budget Towing. We called Budget Towing. Dispatch stated that it would cost us $901.00 for them to release the car. I asked why so much money? They informed us $100.00 because they do not allow other trucks into their lot. $100.00 to tow the car to the gate $180.00 for police hook up $260.00 car beyond right of way $75.00 a winch. $26.00 Per day beginning on November 1st $300.00. I’m sure they’re accustom to gouging the insurance companies but we are regular citizens who are not using an insurance company. They are beyond rude. Dispatchers are not helpful or cooperative. Requested pictures of the vehicle. They ask for registration drivers license. They lied and said they never received them via email address they provided us. Then they said they don’t give out pictures. Then I explained I was trying to sell the car to a scrap yard. They sent a file via email that could not be opened. MIG file. Needed to be a ping or jpeg. All the while each day another $26.00 it should be well into $300.00 by now! They do not accept credit cards, they only accept cash. We are suppose to bring $1,000.00 in cash to their business? How could they operate a business with so much destain for people and the public? Aweful aweful! Well, I guess we will need to contact the State of Michigan and the Attorney General office because we’re getting nowhere with these folks. It seems they’re very confident that they can treat you which ever way they want with no repercussions. But some people know other people with higher authority above them. Using all their Shenanigans on the public. We have been victimized by the perpetrator who stole the car and the city of Ypsilanti who is allowing this type of business with these prepatory prices and policies to operate. We just want our vehicle. Trust me we will never go back to Ypsilanti or any where near that area. And may each of them receive double in return of what they’re dishing out at that Budget Money Gouging Towing Company. UPDATE: I still do not have our vehicle 23 days from the time the car was stolen. I’ve tried to obtain a copy of the police report. Just to get something in reference to this incident. I was told make a request for the report via an FOIA. Freedom of Information Act. Bottom line I can’t get the report because the car has been apart of a criminal investigation, on the other hand the car has been released. I called Budget Towing and attempted to come into an agreement do that we can resolve this ordeal. I said we will give them the car. The person I spoke to says they don’t buy vehicles because they are not a scrap yard, but they will take $200.00 off my bill. We agreed. She also says you will need to bring cash. Friday, November 15th we drove to Ypsilanti which was 45 minutes away. Cash in hand. The lady looks and says - we need your original title. Now I’m not ignorant. I’m aware when you sell a car you must transfer title. But this car which I’ve never seen after the accident has been declared totaled. Now cost $1,376,00. They need original title. I’ve had one dead end after another@ $26.00 per day. Budget towing have the a copy of my license, grandsons license registration (which now has expired since the car was stolen) and vin number license plates etc. They have everything to validate we are the owner of this 2012 Ford escape but each time we go up… the dispatcher gives us another obstacle to settling this issue, while the bill is going up $26.00 per day. They are not forth coming with information needed. It’s like pulling teeth. 30days now@$26.00 per day. $1395.00.

This place sucks, I was in an accident and the driver told me verbatim that I would be able to get my car out later free of charge. Instead, budget towing is holding my car wreckage hostage for 400$, which is more than I would even get for scraping the thing. Budget towing takes advantage of people in already bad situations and is a horrible company.

Cody was extremely kind tonight in helping me tow my car! It was a raining heavy and he was very friendly in assisting me in getting my car towed. And even better, we had a friendly conversation on the drive which made the experience even more enjoyable. Would highly recommend!!

Towed my car for being parked in my own driveway (forgot to put the parking pass up) but i literally live here. I was at my car when they tried to tow it too and they just kept towing my car when I told them to stop. The guy is an absolute jerk and karma will get him back! Least they could’ve done was give me a drop towing fee. Paid $400 to get my car back.

I was on the highway for almost an hour with my insurance. They finally found someone to pick myself and car up. So grateful it was Cody! He was very efficient, good company and gave me advice on what could be the issue with my vehicle. Thank you again Cody, I appreciate your help!

I went to take pictures of my car after it was towed due to an accident, and I was trapped in their impound lot because I could not spend even a few minutes to set up for my car to be towed to a repair shop. The tow driver who let me into the lot left without notice, leaving me trapped. This was incredibly unprofessional, and I will be pursuing this matter further.

Our car was towed here after we hit a deer. The whole experience with their company was amazing. Car was towed quickly. We were able to get a few things we had to have the first day and then come back this morning to get our other stuff. The lady in the office was so nice, the gentleman who took us down to our car was very sweet. Thanks to them we had less stress on our plates dealing with getting everything done.

Avoid at all costs. Employees are extremely rude and unhelpful. My car was towed illegally and they would not give it back to me unless I paid over $500. They were extremely slow and very frustrating to deal with. I hope they go out of business, they make a living preying on decent, hard working, normal people.

0 stars. This company is terrible, if you read the reviews and then see what the owner replies with, you can see how they really are. Which is rude, no care in the world and thieves lol. Will charge you for two days without it being even 24 hours (like how?), will charge a hefty bill even if they don’t go even a mile away, & you just better hope they don’t break your car.

Parked during a snowy day in Island Dr apartment complex in front of the Visitor Parking sign. Towed once the snow melted since we were outside lines that we couldn't see. Given that they're providing a service to the residents I'm not sure how this is serving the purpose. Also charge $36 per calendar day so when they tow you late in the evening 30 minutes away and you have to get cash - they almost guarantee an extra day. Felt very targeted and intentional seeing as per reddit this exact situation has occurred before and they were aware of it.

It’s been years now.. but each time I see their truck it reminds me to give this review. Had my vehicle towed illegally by this company. Video footage showed they pulled my car from a legal spot at the apartment complex at river rain. When the apartment manager called them directly to release the vehicle, they were reluctant. For over a day they held my car hostage for payment. Only to get it back without paying them!! Even with proof, they were shady.

It was already stressful having my car impounded, however the workers there added additional stress by being rude and condescending. The way they conduct business is extremely exploitive and scheming. I think they prove their poor business ethics through how they respond to each customer's review of criticism by condescending them. I wish they carried themselves with more honesty, respect, and transparency.

I was towed for parking in a spot that I shouldn't have been (completely my fault). However, when I called to get my car, I was told that I could go in immediately to pick it up, so I did. No one was there and I had to call multiple times to find out the driver was "stuck in traffic". I was told they were at a spot that I know is at most about 10 minutes away (with heavy traffic). It still took 10 minutes past this. I waited for nearly 45 minutes outside in the heat. I think this was super rude. Maybe there was an emergency or something, but that should have been made clear to me when I called and asked if I could pick up the car immediately.

Our car was towed from a spot where there was no sign. We came back in under an hour to find a sign placed right where we were parked and no vehicle. I called the # on it instantly to hear from a rude and very irritated women. I asked when it was towed, where to, how much to recover it, and who owned the spot. I got back all answers other than who owned it. I asked again and she hung up on me. The lady on the phone said 365$ absolutely no cards, to then later go in pulling 365$ out from my ATM for the lady at the desk to say it’s now 405$. I questioned why and she proceeded to block her window and ask me to leave. I had my mom call and now suddenly it’s back to 365$ but she has to come pick it up. Real funny how the price was upcharged as soon as she saw I was a young adult…. She then told me I need my car insurance and registration, which was in my car, to recover it. I have the right to enter my car and get the proper paperwork but she would not let me into it. I don’t think that’s legally allowed. Does this worker expect me to carry all paperwork when I’m walking around. She was so rude and didn’t answer any questions that were reasonably asked. Like why it caused how much it did and the details of why it was towed.

My car was in an accident that was not my fault. My son and daughter went out to my car and got a few thing out. My attorney told me to go get a video for court. I stopped in and tried but some rude lady would not let me go back until I paid $900 to get car out. I was trying to add it into my lawsuit. I called today spoke with the same rude lady. I know she was rude because when someone gets rude with me I get rude back. She wouldn’t let me explain that I was in hospital and it wasn’t me that came. I didn’t expect to total my car or pay a 1000 for something that wasn’t my fault. Anyway they’re taking my car and the lady there thinks she’s cool but you’re rude very rude sorry for being rude back it’s really not me! You need to be a bouncer in a bar not in a tow yard people are already stressed than to hear your rudeness. May God still bless you when your down

Scam alert! Typical tow yard ... My vehicle was stolen and then recovered and brought to this yard... I received no call from the police til 20 some days later when I received a letter from the SOS, Police did wave the storage fee for those days and once the police hold was off my vehicle I was told by the police dept. I had 48 hours to get my vehicle without any extra storage fees from this yard. I arrived less then 24 hours since the police hold was taken off and was forced to pay the following.... $24 for 1 day storage?(not what the lieutenant told me), $50 for tire fill?(I never told anyone to fill my tires? My vehicle was stolen, $40 SOS for abandoned vehicle? (I was never notified by anyone my vehicle was recovered) and last.... $100 to tow off there lot to the street less then 100 ft away( because nobody is allowed on the property). I will say I questioned the bill and they told me they talked to there upper management and they couldn't do anymore.... But the only decent thing I can say is after the numerous phone calls and a visit to this yard.... Everyone was at least nice....

They did get my car quickly, but honestly the service itself was awful. My car broke down on me and I managed to get it to a parking lot over on State St. had to go to work, and then came back for it and called my insurance to get it towed. They use Budget Towing. We called Budget Towing after the set up with the insurance and the guy on the phone was very accommodating and said that we just needed to leave the keys somewhere the tower could find them. So we did. The tow truck driver then called and said he couldn’t find the car and we had to stay on the phone with him until he found it. Complained loudly on the phone that he wished people would stay with their cars. Once he got it to my house, he basically dropped my car on the ground. Hello? My car is already having issues, I don’t need a flat tire or anything else you may have damaged on-top of that. He was super rude and not very professional.

Don't let the people who reviewed this company bad, because they were towed for for a good reason and it wasn't the towing company's fault. I didn't see any unprofessional behavior at all. In the two times we used them I was treated with respect and kindness. They were on time, too. Come on people...tow trucks encounter all sorts of delays and problems getting to your car. Sometimes you have to wait. Jim had to maneuver our camper which was in a difficult position and he did a wonderful job. I'm glad I called this company. The other places wouldn't set a price at all and that scared me. Don't hesitate to call them. They know their stuff !!

One star is honestly too much, I wish I could give zero. The staff was very unprofessional, spent more time socializing with each other than helping me receive my car. Extraordinarily unhelpful, I waited two whole hours to receive my car because of the hoops I was forced to jump through (even though I gave proof of insurance, registration, and ID). I am so sorry to anybody that ever has to deal with these employees in the future. I highly recommend this company evaluate their employees and management timely.

These folks towed my daughter's car on supposed parking violation (ticket was dismissed) and bent trailing arm (rear suspension). They refused to be responsible and pay for damages. And towing 0.9 miles cost $300. When my daughter tried to get the car, the guy would not release it to her because BOTH her name and mine were on the registration so both of us had to get the car is what he insisted. So I had to drive 150 miles at 8pm on Friday night to get the car out. After paying the $300 towing bill and $25 storage fee, they had to search for almost half hour to find it. Here are two pictures of the bent trailing arm.

I got my car towed by the company (not by choice) after I was in an accident. My car was a total loss and my insurance company told me to get my belongings including my license plate before the car was towed. I was told by multiple employees that I couldn't take my license plate off until the car was leaving their lot. After asking 3 different people to put a note into my account to pull my plate and after being assured all 3 times that a note was placed, I returned to get my plate to find out that it had never been taken off. As irritated as I was, I attempted to be courteous and ask who I can talk to in order to get everything resolved. I was told to call the next day and talk to "the boss man", whose name was never given to me even after asking for clarification. I called the next day, asked for a manager, and explained my situation to the lady on the phone. She never transferred me to a manager, as the person on the phone explained to me that she was the manager. I have worked many customer service jobs and understand the frustration when a customer takes a tone with you when you are not to blame, so I treated the employee on the phone with curtesy and respect. The lady on the phone told me that there was nothing they could do since a note was never entered, but could not explain to me what else I could have done to ensure it was taken off. As a customer, I do not see any other route I could have taken to ensure this was done, as I asked 3 different people to note my account. I was met with rudeness, I was interrupted many times in the middle of speaking, and this lady finally told me that she didn't "want to go back and forth with me" and I was advised to just call my insurance company. They also lost my key fob and told my insurance company that I never gave it to them, despite the fact that I have camera footage of my key fob being handed to the tow truck driver. As far as the towing service, no complaints. They came in great time and I had no issue on that front. All other fronts are terrible and I would advise not dealing with them at all and just dealing with insurance if possible.
