Got my car towed to the lot after a bad accident. Tow truck driver didn’t disclose any costs besides a standard $150 3 mile tow. A&M Impound Lot charged me „additional $150 for opening their gates” which was open anyways, and $50 for processing fees.
Decided to let them scrap it for cash back… however the front desk lady called the scrapper and told them how much my bill was which was none of the scrapper’s business. Scrapper only offered to pay my bill— equivalent to abandoning the vehicle.
Literal highway robbery. They call it competition or whatever, but really it’s legalized scamming and preying.
From meeting the tow driver, to dealing with the on-site staff, everyone was professional, kind, helpful, and very understanding to my situation. They advocated for me, ensuring I was able to retrieve my belongings before the vehicle was released to the insurance company. With all the stress of being involved in an accident, their positive energy was beneficial. Thank you!
James is the man! He’s towed my 2013 Audi s7 multiple times, he knows what he’s doing, and he’s very professional, quick, and efficient at what he does! I highly recommend A&M towing and get James if you can!!
Driver was awesome, dispatcher was a jack wagon. ordered for a simple service, ($165) to tow a motorcycle 2.9 miles. My bank initially declined the charge and they said they would tow it to their yard instead of the destination and let me pay for it upon delivery. Bike is on the way now but I’ll never use this company again.
The lady behind the desk is rude as can be. Had an attitude and then told me I needed to check my attitude. My boss would fire me if I ever spoke/ acted the way they treat their customers.
After I was involved in an accident the staff here was extremely helpful and polite, the woman working the desk (I’m terrible with names) went out of her way to ensure the process of me collecting my belongings was as stress free as possible and the driver that was at the yard at the time (again terrible with names) was also very kind and helped me get into the trunk of my totaled car without hesitation. Thank you so much!!
It’s never a good feeling when u have to go to the impound to receive ur car but I must say this experience was so pleasant Andra was so nice and kind friendly and helpful ppl be so nasty when coming in and taking there anger out of herppl we don’t have to treat people nasty for doing there job!!!!!! We all human and have lives outside of anything where doing respectfully I appreciate her so much she took care me and my situation so gracefully and pleasantly thank u so much
I picked up my vehicle today and after driving my car back home I noticed that my hands were literally covered in what looked to be a mix of mud, oil & dirt...You can see in the photo my great shifter is covered in mud.
Obviously there's a total lack of respect from A&M to allow this!! How hard is it to remove your nasty azz gloves before operating someone else's vehicle!?

They ONLY accept cash! Could it be they only accept cash cause they don't claim 100% of business revenue? It would be funny to see them get audited
This company has absolutely no shame in ripping off the public, this is being looked into by many others. If I was to tell the cost my client was charged (for a situation totally out of their control) you most likely would call me a liar.
A&M is where your car will be towed if you're involved in a traffic accident in Royal Oak and your car is not drivable. It is also the impound lot for the Royal Oak Police Department. Customer parking and the office are located on the right as you enter the lot. The office staff are polite and efficient. Cash is the only form of payment accepted here.
I totaled my car on I-75, and the driver was very friendly who picked me up. However, when I went to get my contents out of the car which was not supposed to be moved until Monday. We called ahead (on Friday) to let them know we were on our way. When we got there, the guy told us the car was moved off the lot in the 20-30 mins it took me to drive down there. They didn't know where my car was, insurance didn't know. I was able to track it down 3 days later, but a few expensive items were stolen. I did NOT appreciate the run around and lack of communication. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! Now I'm out of a few expensive items that I need to replace!
My car died and after attempting to jump start the battery, it still was remained that way. I go to Bayliss for my auto repair in Clawson and this was the towing company they refer to for after-hours. I was very pleased with the service! The lady I spoke with over the phone was polite, patient, and accommodating. The driver, John, was even more helpful. Since I live so close to the repair shop, he was even willing to drive me back home. I think that was very considerate especially given how late in the evening it was. Pricing was reasonable and arrived at my home only 10 minutes after I called. I would use this company again without hesitation!
They were really nice and understanding to our situation when the AAA dis not show up in time to get car. Hope to never be towed again but they were kind.
I was involved in a hit and run accident on I-75 in Royal Oak. Tow truck was there very quickly. Driver was very helpful and courteous. I regretfully didn't get his name. I called insurance while in the tow truck. He had pen, paper and helped me with any information I needed. Awesome job!
Always have great Service from A&M Towing! Bill saved me last week when my car went through high water during a storm. Over the years they have been my go-to for towing needs!
I have used A&M a few times to tow my vehicles and to unlock keys locked in vehicles. It has always been a pleasant experience with a reasonable price. I would recommend them to family.
This is the worst possible scenario for your vehicle to be towed to. The staff avaliable has no clue as to how to help you or get you talking to anyone that can. Prior to showing up at the gate with ALL of the proper paperwork & credentials, we were told that due to covid everyone left early, even though I had literally just talked to a guy working in the yard a half hour before I arrived. If I could give it zero stars I would. This is a scam put on by A& M to make money off of people's bad luck. This most likely city contract needs to be pulled & given to a company that actually follows the guidelines they post for the public. A SNAFU of this proportion could send someone's life on a downward spiral. It's ridiculous, fraudulent, & if conducted by anyone else completely criminal!
If I could leave no stars I would. We didn't end up using them because I was treated incredibly rude by the person I spoke with. He called me an "irresponsible car owner"- whatever that means, then proceeded to call the shop where I wanted my car towed and talk bad about me to the owner. Avoid this place and Bayliss in Clawson!
The person on the phone was nice I'm hoping I can get my car out today. Yes expensive but the man was very nice on the phone when I thought I lost all hope. Because my insurance company told me to wait till next friday. It's cold and it's my only was to and from anything.
My car was impounded by the police. They worked with my situation to release my vehicle. They could have given me a hard time, but they were quick to take my ppwk and payment. The price was reasonable for my situation and the storage was 20 a day, which isn't bad at all for a tow yard. Regular non police ones charge far more than that let alone a police yard. While the person on the phone was rude and took forever to answer I was given accurate information. So if you're car gets towed here yeah it's a bummer, but don't feel too bad about it
The epitome of the scum of the earth. Excessively rude staff, ATM maxes out a single transaction at $200 when cost is $255, requiring you to pay the excessive $3 atm charge twice if you're unfortunate enough to have thought an established business with city government contracts have the ability to process a debit or credit card like any other respectable company. Be sure to reciprocate the attitudes they give you, they deserve it.
Edited my original scathing review: I Should have changed this a long time ago, but I can’t believe how many others weren’t aware that you can possibly get a refund from AAA or your insurance if you were towed by the police after an accident. ASK THEM!!
One of the guys there told me about this loophole and saved me nearly 150 dollars. Be weary of other reviews as these guys are contracted through Royal Oak PD. They are not monopolizing in any way and aren’t trying to nickel and dime you. If you have a problem with the rates, take it up with the city, and not them.
They’re just doing their jobs and want to get paid like everyone else. My pickup arrangement was scheduled fast and they were right on time. The whole process was made very simple and put me at ease once one of their guys let me in on their secret.
These are literally the rudest people I’ve ever spoken to. I was in a wreck on a freeway where they towed my vehicle. I left house keys inside which I really needed. I called and was told my car was not picked up yet. I explained over and over to this extremely rude lady over the phone that I watched the tow truck pick my car up. I KNOW YOU HAVE IT. After 30 minutes of half listening to me she gave me a different number where my car should be. However, when I called they referred me directly back to her. When I called, she answered again and realized my car was in fact there. When I asked how to go about getting my keys, she explained what I would need. When telling her one of these items were missing since the crash or still in the car she told me that I “shouldn’t be driving around without it and that I’d better go figure out how to replace it”. Directly after making the comment she hung up in my face. DO NOT EVER willingly deal with these people. They are horrible, horrible people.
They are the worse towing service in the state of Michigan. Not only are they terrible, but they are rudest people on this planet. If you don’t want to have to call 1,000 times and still get no actual answer please do use their service.
I had a rental car that was impounded because I became ill one night and a friend parked it in a tow zone. Tried to call a and m on the weekend and almost impossible to get a hold of. Once I got a hold of someone they told me the car had already been picked up. This was a lie the car sat their for 27 days and hertz had to charge me 366 dollar late fee. Still waiting for any more fees from anywhere else. I have many medical bills and can hardly get by as it is. It is a very shady company. The one employee I talked to jay was very rude and basically told me none of it was their fault and he never makes a mistake. Please do yourself a favor and don't go here.
Worlds most stupid employees and the most expensive tow for litterly 3 fkn miles. Guy was a straight up con artist. They aren't open on weekends or at least don't pick up the phone yet they still charge you 15 plus for those days. If you ever call this place for a tow you're a complete idiot or you have at least 300 to get your car. Scam artists at their finest
Berkley police called A&M towing after my acident. The driver suggested that they take my vehicle back to their lot, then they would deal with the insurance company for payment. Otherwise if they towed it to a mechanic, I had to pay 'Cash Only' up front. I agreed. After the insurance adjustor looked at my vehicle, they agreed to have it towed to the mechanic in Centerline (a few miles away) to be fixed. A&M towing took my vehicle to the mechanic, but refused to leave it there unless the mechanic immediately paid them $385. This included a daily storage fee which I was never informed about. What happened to dealing with my insurance company??? They claim to be contracted with the police, as though that makes them a good business. They are scam artists.
Any tow company is out to make as much money as possible, or keep your property for a profit. This place is beyond ridiculous. They have different prices and different rules for picking up your vehicle if you don't do your homework. The state has prices for towing that they are supposed to go by. If you are ever in an accident, do your homework. I know during that traumatic time its the last thing on your mind, but in the end you will save money and heartache. This place was horrible!! Within two days I had three different prices quoted to me on the phone and in person. It wasn't until I spoke to the state police is when I got the correct info. Do hour homework. Horrible business!!!
Well first off I got in a car wreck, was run into a cement wall by someone who drove off and came close to possibly losing my life. When the state trooper came he did not even ask me if I had a tow truck to come. I called my boyfriend right away and he set up a tow service with a friend who was going to also come pick me up. Right as I went to tell the cop this, they made me get in an ambulance to look me over. I was fine other than being scared to death and having a air bag burn on my face. As I was getting out of the ambulance they were loading my car on to a wrecker that I did not authorize. Now I am being charged 165 dollars for towing and 30 for 2 days storage. Many tow services we called can not go to this lot due to not having some workman's comp insurance or something. They do this so you are forced to use their insanely high priced service. The police have a contract with these guys so that is why they do this and rake you over the coals. I have never been through more BS in my life than dealing with these people. And they will not bill you. They make you pay up front in full before another tow service can come get it. They make their money by being a 24 hour lot yet their office somehow closes at 5 so if you can not get there before then due to having a job and that being your only car and having no one to help you out, you will be forced to keep paying 30 dollars for storage everyday. This is THE WORLD place you could possibly go. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. And their customer service is terrible as well. After almost losing my life this is the last thing I wanted to deal with today. Some rather colorful words come to mind when I think of exactly how I feel about this place and those who operate it as well as the police department. Again, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. THEY ARE THE WORST, DO NOT GIVE THEM BUSINESS! THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND SUED. EXTORTIONISTS. PERIOD.
