The fort has been reconstructed and restored to its original appearance, allowing visitors to experience its historical layout and design.

Best views on the island in my opinion. The 'Henry' walking path is a bit rocky and relatively steep compared to the rest of the island. Did not go up the road. Stairs were closed. Fort is okay, it is a replica and not necessarily historically accurate, but the story boards inside are worth reading.

This is a replica of the fort that once stood here. Looks pretty new and well maintained. The entry was locked when we went, but there's plenty of plaques with historical information nearby. Smaller than I expected. There are a lot of stairs to get upto this point. The view from up top is similar to Point Lookout - just without the Sugar Loaf in the mix. On the other side, you can see down the rifle range towards Ft. Mackinac. Super pretty in fall.

Beautiful views from the highest spot on the island . A rebuilt fort with a story to tell . Rustic bathroom facilities and much effort required to get there !

Fort Homes is the highest point on the island. Nice walk but amazing views!

A really cool fort! The story behind why it was built was really interesting. Why the Americans didn't fortify the heights is something I don't understand. As an avid military history reader it was a lot of fun for me to explore the history of the island and it's strategic importance during the War of Independence and the War of 1812! I was quite disappointed I couldn't get up to the second story of the block house though.

It takes a little work to get up to it, but well worth the view once you get there!

A "newer" fort on Mackinac Island, the interesting Fort Holmes! A little walk is required to get to this fort, but it worth the walk! Not as big as the main fort on the island, but still impressive in its own right! Come check out this fort on Mackinac Island today!

Don't understand why Fort Mackinaw existed, why wouldn't you build the original defence on the highest point of the island?

This was a nice place to visit. Not a lot to see, but has some good views. It's too bad they didn't recreate the fort to have stairs to the upper level. That would be a nice view I'm sure. It isn't a very long walk from Fort Mackinac, but you do need to climb several flights of stairs. It would be better to ride a bike or take a carriage using the road if you have trouble with stairs.

Gorgeous views and definitely worth the climb. Read about the fort, took a ton of pics, and there was also someone scouting for birds which was cool. There’s also picnic tables so perfect picnic location.

This is the tallest point on the island, so if you’re able to make the short hike uphill, this is worth it. Super neat to see the fort and awesome views.

Great views from the top of the island. Less crowds up here, and nice free fort visit for those interested.

Worth the walk! Worth the view! On a sunny day this is a great spot to get some really cool views! The fort doesn't have a lot of information, and because of it's location, it's not normally very crowded. There are a few signs outside and inside that tell you a bit of history of the fort. Always worth the photo opp!

Worth the view if you can handle the long walk/ bike ride all uphill! They say this is the northernmost part of the island, so it was extremely windy!! But you can see so far from up here, the view is totally amazing!! The little fort was pretty neat too, if that's your thing... I mostly appreciated looking at the water, not much interest in the fort here🙃

The fort was a great representation of the past. Absolutely stunning views (no pictures, just come experience) of the harbor, lakes Huron, Michigan and Mackinac Bridge.

It is a crazy hard bike ride and then tons of killer stairs to get up here, but the view is the best one on the island. There is one of those green historical signs you can read, and you can see the other islands and the bridge from here. The fort itself is pretty cool-looking, too. If you like history and forts, you will enjoy this one.

The stairs are worth the view. If you visit Fort Mackinac first, be sure to angle yourself in the back of the fort to spy Fort Holmes. Take a picnic, there are several tables to enjoy the vantage point.

Probably one of the most unrated sites on the Island. At one time it had a survey tower where the fort currently stands that would greatly increase the traffic but nonetheless the views are worth the hike. It is still the highest viewpoint on the Island. If you have a telephoto lens bring it with you.

The views were spectacular. Well worth the walk or bike up (not sure if horse drawn carriages go there). The fort was smaller than I expected but really interesting, nonetheless. Great place to stop and have a bite at one of the picnic tables as you enjoy the views. Also, there is a unisex restroom that is well kept.

Paved hike through the woods. Reconstructed fort from the design drafted in 1814. Historical relevance, highest point of the island and unique vistas.

Awesome fort on the bluff overlooking Mackinaw. It’s a little bit of a hike (twice as far if you don’t take the steps) but worth it.

Small Historical landmark on the highest point of Mackinac Island. It's just a reconstruct of an old fort, I did not get much from internal fort design. But magnificent views from there. Seriously, it offers the best view on the island. It was a good hike up to the Fort Holmes.

Incredible views from highest point on the island. It is well worth the hike to get there. The maps that we had didn't show a bathroom there but there is a composting toilet.

Never knew this was even here, after a walk down the Rifle Range Road and up some stairs held a great view of most of the island! The fort was very interesting! There is a outhouse at the top that oddly lacked the smell if an outhouse!

Great free fort for anyone who wants to make the trip to the top of the island. Way worth it. So many things to see near by also like sugar loaf and lookout point. I will make sure to make it back to this first next time I'm on the island. Great view too.

Fort Holmes boasts the best views of the island overall, but its a hike to get there. Lots of stairs.

The fort itself is not super impressive, but there's some nice posters inside with information about the history of the forts and battles between the U.S. and the British on the island. The best part is that it's the highest point on the island (I believe), so you get great views. There's a straight shot view down to Fort Mackinac that really gives you a sense of the tactical advantage the position had.
