Beautiful campground with plenty of rustic, RV, or cabin options. A large swimming (a little rocky but that’s Huron for you) beach, trails, spotlessly clean modern showers and bathroom, clean vault toilets, and the friendliest staff. We chose a rustic lakefront spot for our trip and, weather aside, we had a blast. The office folks will bring you back to the rustic sites and cabins (no cars allowed on the rustic/cabin sites) with all your gear in a trailer and even deliver ice and wood at request (bring cash! and a nice tip!). Sites aren’t very private and quite close together but we expected that, get creative with arranging your tents and it won’t matter. We look forward to our next trip to Wagener! ***Prepare for strong winds!!!!!!***
We visit this park every year and this year it surpassed every visit prior. They've installed a new pump out station and water filling station away from the seasonals!! They cleared some trees so almost every site has a view of the lake! The water level is really low this year
Love camping on the lake. Electric only but worth the inconvenience. We visit a few times a year. Lots of wood and ice available 24/7. Clean sites and awesome staff. 8/24/24.....Better than last year!!!
This campground is GREAT !!!! My boyfriend and I stayed here June 24th thru June 26th in the rustic area. This was a FANTASTIC choice !! Very nice !! The up-keep here is great too !! All the trails are clean and trimmed. This means alot to me since I walk with a cane.
I would recommend this park to everyone !!! So nice.
Next time we visit we are going to rent a cabin for that experience !!

Park was clean and staff kind yet; there were campers in the park that were allowed to be disruptive, loud and utilize a golf cart even when carts are not allowed in the camp grounds. Management never addressed the group which continues to be disrespectful of others the entire weekend; those of us in our row were very upset at the lack of rule enforcement which made the weekend a disappointment. We will not return for these reasons which is sad due to the beautiful area it provides guests
Awesome hidden gem. We had the opportunity to visit this past weekend we had a rustic site. The bathrooms are clean, the office is right on the water and offer wood and ice for cheap cheap. Hiked the trails, swing set on the beach, volleyball net on the beach. Super quiet at night, the roar of lake Huron it's amazing. We will definitely be back. Close to turnip rock and shipwrecks. One of our favorite spots.
The place was nice. People were very friendly. Campsites were clean, as were the restrooms. Did not go to the beach, but it was clean. The misquotes were horrible the weekend that we went. Also, we ran out of firewood, and we were not able to get more from the campground as the office closed VERY early.
I would have given it more stars, but for some reason, each day, we were run into our camper by the smell of waste. Before anyone tells me that I should be ok with it due to being out in the country, this was NOT the waste from animals being spread onto fields. I've camped before in Harbor Beach and have never had this happen. It smelled like human waste. We were not next to the dump station either.
The first day, I thought maybe that it was due to something being emptied. But it happened Friday thru Sunday at different times.
Other than that, I would recommend this place. It was beautiful. There were definitely a lot of activities for everyone.
We had a bachelor party at this campground. The front office lady was nice. As a larger group of guys, we listened every time she had asked us to do something. Unfortunately, someone made a false claim about our group and the cops were called on us. Our party ended very early, and ruined our experience here. We had several other campers come up to us and apologize, and said we were not disturbing anyone whatsoever. I would not recommend this place to anyone. We should receive a refund for the 5 sites we rented.
We have stayed in the rustic cabins several times over the years. The last time was 5 years ago. This past weekend our family rented two cabins. The park looked like it had been cleaned up and improved. We talked to the lady who manages it now and she talked about the changes that were made. It is absolutely a beautiful place to stay. Our cabin looked out at the gorgeous Lake Huron with a walkable beach the entire length of the property. The bathrooms are clean. Firewood can be purchased at the office and delivered to your cabin/campsite. All the workers their are friendly and helpful. And the best part, you can bring your dog! We had a wonderful weekend and can't wait to go back but as of right now, all the cabins are booked through the next few months.
Stayed in the cabins with our 13 month old daughter and had a fantastic time. Staff was friendly and even helped take our luggage to and from the cabin. Cabins are simple but very clean and not a spider in sight. And the heat is great on cold nights! We will definitely be back.
We camped here in August of 2021 and loved it. Park was nice. Our site was right next to the beach trail and we loved it. Rocky and slippery swimming, so I wouldn't suggest going out without good shoes including toe coverage or you'll end up a bit bruised. We had a blast riding the waves. A few rocks but not much in the way of rock hunting. All around great trip, we'll definitely be back!
We camped here the weekend of the Cheeseburger Festival and it was beautiful! We booked our site a month prior, so we got lucky because the campsite was at full capacity. The weather was perfect, but it did get cold at night. We camped with a tent and thankfully we brought our sweaters and sweatpants so we slept well. I can imagine Wagener not being pleasant because you're directly off the lake, but in August Wagener is worth staying at just so you can watch the sky at sunset. The bathrooms were cleaned every morning and had no issues with toilet paper running out. The campsite was packed, and though people were blaring their music (not supposed to) we still had a good time there. Wagener allows dogs BUT not on the beach, which is probably why the beach was pristine. We found blackberries on the trail that were deliciously sweet–we ate a handful and didn't get sick. My only caution is that the beach is rocky so bring your water shoes, and the current was pretty strong. So I didn't feel comfortable swimming there, but Port Austin is a short drive away and I'd rather swim there instead. Also mosquitos were not an issue, I only got bite twice while on the trail, and I typically get bite a lot. Our camping experience was practically bug-free so again, another reason to camp at Wagener again!
Mid May stayed for 2 nights. Campsite was clean, staff was awesome, views of lake Huron second to none. Prices very reasonable, easy to reserve online. This park is a gem in the thumb of Michigan.
This place was absolutely beautiful. Great beach for kids, clean park and awesome staff. We drove ten hours and stayed four nights and it was amazing. I can't wait to come back ?
Been coming to Wagener for 10 years now as we have family who keep campers there seasonal. The park is constantly making updates. This past summer was the first time we stayed in one of the cabins and it was very nice for the price.
Great getaway just far enough from home! Of the county campgrounds in the thumb, this park still has the woodsy feel, nice trails to hike or bike, accommodating staff, and a beautiful beach on Lake Huron!!
Second time here. Nice county park, friendly staff, and close to home so good for spontaneous camping trips. Need to season their wood, though, as it is horrible to get campfires started.
Love the place! Nice and quiet in the full hook-up sites. Nice walk to the beach. Great beach to get some sun or hunt for rocks. If you just want to hook up water and electricity, get a beach side site! Rustic and well maintained trails. Very friendly office staff during the day. Arriving late with a reservation, no problem... Just check in the next morning. I really like the place. My best take away: poor cell service! Yes, I like being off the air when I camp. If your looking for a great relaxing getaway, this is the place!
Nice little lake front Camp ground with trails for biking or hiking. The playground on the sand waterfront was a hit with my kids. The dogs were very welcome but not on the beach, which is understandable.
