They towed my son’s go-kart and held it for only 13 hours, but charged me $258 in cash (a $140 fee + $4.00 per mile + $50 per day — even though it was only overnight from 8pm to 9:30am). This feels like pure greed, especially since they are partnered with Burton PD. On top of that, Kevin was extremely rude right from the start. If I could give zero stars, I would.
So when you google smitty’s it’s across the street from the location that you get from the old address so I did give google the correct address for Smitty’s towing & services!
Customer Service was disgraceful and disgusting. Made us go get Cash for a payment! Claims to not accept card only cash. There were no signs posted ….. When we were calling about the vehicle. They said they didn’t have it ! Now I understand not wanting to release information for safety issues. But why not say “We cannot verify that information due to privacy!” Unprofessional. The service was poor due to our race. Once we finally got the payment complete and car towed. We trailed behind the tow truck. The Tow truck was running red lights and speeding excessively with our car. Driving so reckless I thought the car was going to tip over. If you are a person of color avoid going here !!!!
This is a complaint which I rarely do but I find it disturbing that this company is in cahoots with the police departments like they are. If you notice in the photo it's Complete Towing's wrecker. The vehicle I picked up was in the City of Flint which usually Complete Towing's called. I don't get why the Genesee County Sheriff's department called Smitty's? Now here's what gets me. Complete charged me $68. In years past I've used Westown Towing they always for years only charged me $50. I didn't use Westown this time because all their trucks were out and I had 45 minutes to get the vehicle out of Smitty's yard before they charged another $50 storage. Smitty's charged $120+ to tow the vehicle + milage and $50 immediately for a day's storage. It's a racket the bill was +$300 so ridiculous. It's a shame that Smitty's can't charge people the rates that other tow companies charge in Genesee County. It's greedy and unnecessary. I'll never call them to tow mine or any of my families vehicles because of this. Westown Towing and Complete Towing's going to get my business.
Gentleman who helped me was Kevin Smith. The most helpful guy ever. Happy to be there, happy to pull me out of the ditch. I will 100 percent use the company again if and when the time comes.
Smitty's Towing was truly a blessing for me yesterday. I stopped at UPS drop-off on Miller Road. Upon finishing my business at UPS, I realized I had locked my keys in my car. I called my roadside service and was told it would be 45 minutes before a lockout would get to me. I didn't have 45 minutes to spare. As I was there thinking about what else I could do, a driver with Smitty's towing arrived to do business at UPS. I asked him if he was able to unlock my vehicle? He replied, yes, he could and quoted me a price. After the driver took care of his business, he proceeded to unlock my vehicle. I was so grateful for his assistance. I made the payment and proceeded on my way. I felt God had sent Smitty's to that location to assist me. Thank you Mr. Driver for assisting me. I would of still be waiting. This company is amazing. Friendly, efficient and gets the job done! If you need a tow, don't waste your time calling anyone else. Highly, highly recommend!
Called for a tow, we were 1.5 miles from home.
The driver was to us in less than 15 minutes.
Driver was knowledgeable about the special requirements to move my MB. And the price was half of the company the insurance company was willing to send our way in about a hour and a half.
We appreciate this company so much! We had to use them 3 times in 4 days. Roger was great, made the whole process less stressful. He's a real people person. Very reasonable rates and great customer service.
My neighbor is a disabled veteran. He called a couple towing places to help him out. Smitty’s never called him back, but yet showed up after another tow company had helped him. They still charged him.!!!!!! Please spread the word do not use Smitty’s
Shout out to Jason @ Smitty's Towing! After I found myself stranded at a traffic light waiting for another tow company I was witness to a 2 car accident. Jason and another tow truck driver did an excellent job of cleaning up the debris in the street and the grassy area after loading the 2 vehicles onto their trucks all the while I waited for my tow truck. Jason brightened my rather glum begining to the day with kindness and laughter as I cancelled the original tow and was assisted by Jason and made it to work only an hour and a half late.....I can only imagine how late I would have been waiting for the original tow company. Thank You Jason !!!!
I was stranded at Kroger gas station because my steering wheel locked up & would not turn. AAA told me it would take 2 1/2 hours to receive help. I kept seeing Smitty's tow trucks drive by towing vehicles. I called & Sandy answered & sent a tow immediately to rescue me. A tow truck driver named Kevin arrived & took me & my car to the dealership. Kevin was very professional & even got me laughing. I cannot thank Smitty Towing enough! Awesome job guys!
Hands down the best towing company around! I have used them personally a few times and always have a great experience. Such a family friendly company! Fair price and willing to help anyway they can! 10/10 recommend!
Inexpensive and great service. There was no hesitation from the company when I asked for a tow from my parents home. The tow truck driver immediately called letting us know he received the info from dispatch and how long he would take to arrive. He arrived 10 minutes sooner than expected. He was friendly, yet kept it professional. He provided all information I needed for payment and how to pick up my vehicle. A friend recommended them and now I recommend to you. If you should need a tow, think Smitty's hands down.
The owner should be arrested for unarmed robbery and Extortion! My car was STOLEN!!! When I tried to pick it up he said he was closing. I told him I would make it before he closed and he assured me I wouldn't. So come Monday I am there early ready to retrieve my vehicle and he says I owe $350.00!!!!!!!
MY CAR WAS STOLEN!!! AND I HAVE TO PAY!!!?? They have a contract with the city of burton to tow there vehicles. So they are already getting paid! I was the victim twice! And the people who stole my car was let go after two days in jail and pfi'd smfh
So now I am stuck with three kids and no vehicle. Thanks alot
What a great experience yesterday at Smitty’s towing in Burton. I dropped off a friend to pick up her car from Smitty’s and they handed her a good sum of money they had found in her car. Next they mentioned they had slightly damaged her her during the tow but with her permission they would fix it & have car ready for her tomorrow for pick up. Thank you Smitty’s for providing such great service & integrity.
Kevin was to my place promptly. He was very courteous, did the job correctly and couldn't have been more professional. I do not hesitate to recommend this towing company for all of your needs.
I would definitely use this company again. They arrived on the scheduled time and loaded my car on the flatbed with no problems. Most of all the men were very polite and answered all my concerns.
I was in a bad situation as I was on my way home from work I was stranded with a flat tire. so I called a few places around and some people. let’s just just Bo from smitty towing was great and quick very friendly and honest. and very professional helpful as well I come from the dealership background. and must say that Bo had great customer service and helped me in the pinch I was in I would recommend smitty towing all day long
Great service & super friendly tow guy. GPS misdirected him so he called me & we figured out from there. He backed down the driveway & was careful to avoid the grass & our well pump. Overall great experience I would definitely use them again if I needed to!! Thank you!!
Police called them for a vehicle accident with my son before I arrived at the scene. The guy wasn't rude or anything, even backed the truck down my service drive. The problem i had was with the price, was charged 140, for what I was told a 911 call/says flatbed on the receipt, 100 for cleanup, 40 for mileage at 10 miles, and 10 for gas charge. 290 dollars total. I was blown away by the price, which I was told when he arrived at my house, but was also at the mercy of the burton police and towing. I never write reviews, but felt I should warn others. This price was ridiculous for what was done.
I had an odd situation where a rental just went crazy and wouldn't start and it was in my garage. The rental agency sent Smitty's and the driver was there sooner than promised and very friendly and helpful. We had a nice conversation while he took care of the issue with no fuss. I can tell Smitty's is a nice family run business by the way the driver handled things. I'll keep them on my list in case of need in the future!
They towed my car after my car accident. My friend had to drive me there to see if there was anything salvageable in the car because the insurance company was towing it that day. The gentleman was very helpful. Had my car in front of the gate. My friend got what she could and I have a few things that need replacement. The gentleman just needed me to sign a piece of paper and check my license.
Today we had a schedule tow pick up for my daughter's vehicle. We were notified that Smitty's would be there within a 90min window. Then after an hour we were notified by the tow truck guy that he would be there in just a minute, an hour later still NO tow truck!!!!!!!! We contacted Smitty's dispatch and the dispatcher tried to contact the tow truck personnel to find out what was going on. The schedule tow truck was unresponsive to dispatch, and would not answer or return our direct calls either. After several attempts, dispatch notified us that they would not service our request. I am extremely LIVID at the lack of professionalism they presented to my daughter today. Left us sitting there for over 2 hours. We will NOT be using them again, and we have also notified the warranty service and dealership that was on this request. And they also will NOT be using them. Absolutely horrible to conduct business this way and extremely poor customer service!!!
I called 3 other companies before them and was treated horrible and quoted outrageous rates. I then called on Smitty's. From the person that answered the phone to the driver they were awesome. They towed my truck off the side of US 23 without me there. They were polite, punctual and extremely affordable. Thanks Guys!
Great Company!! I called at 7:15 in the morning and they had a flat bed tow truck out to me in 10 minutes!! Charged exactly what they quoted me over the phone, the driver was polite, courteous and very quick! Thank you so much for the exceptional service.
Called them to jump my car at home. He said an hour. In less than 15 minutes later, Sandy was here. Went out of his way to get it jumped - not easy as the car was in a one-car garage facing forward.
The fee was super reasonable. I've got Smitty's bookmarked as the car service to call the next time I'm in a jam..
EXCELLENT
We broke down just south of Flint. Called AAA and they sent Smitty's out. While waiting I looked up reviews and gasped. I was in for horrible service! Needed a tow of 100 miles at 11pm on a Sunday night. No other options. The truck arrived right on time. The driver was quick, knowledgeable and seemed friendly. I was told by AAA upfront that they only accepted cash after hours and that if I did not have my card present I would need to pay the hook up fee and submit for reimbursement. The driver was very polite when verifying that AAA had correctly communicated their policy. We ended up spending over 2 hours in the cab driving with him. He was pleasant, nice to talk too and seemed like a nice person. Arriving at our destination, he quickly and efficiently let my car down into the spot perfectly, wrote up receipt for the exact amount I had been quoted and wished us a safe trip the rest of the way home.
As to the pricing, $4.00 per mile for after hours service call seems to be well within the normal range. I was made aware that I must have my AAA card to avoid the hook up fee, not only by the agent but when I started using AAA.
Overall I was extremely satisfied by the service received and would use them again at anytime. Our driver was John. I hope others aren't put off by the previous reviews as I was originally and hence I made sure to put up this one ASAP.
