super nice and genuine guy. i know nothing about cars so i can’t attest to anything, but seems extremely honest. told me that my car was in great shape, my oil was already clean and my filters were clean. i’d trust him!
In and out in a day the actual doge dealer in Escanaba laughed in my face when asked if I could get in next day said try a week. Was still a week wait for Jerry's but the guy behind the counter didn't laugh in my face apologized about the wait was very respectful and knocked out my problem same day the appointment was cant get any better customer service if you paid extra for it lol.
As a newcomer to the area, I recently brought my vehicle to Jerry's for brake repairs. Having relied on the same shop for the past decade, this was my first experience with a new service provider. My vehicle required new rear brakes, including pads, a rotor, and a caliper for one wheel.
Given my background in automotive work and my awareness of typical repair costs, I anticipated a price range of $250-$300 for the service. I was, therefore, quite surprised when I was initially quoted $675.00. After expressing my concerns and deciding to retrieve my vehicle, Jerry contacted me to inform me that the vehicle could not be reassembled and offered to reduce the price to $448.00, stating that he would not be making any profit.
Considering the job took less than 30 minutes and the cost of parts were approximately $100.00, this adjustment still resulted in an effective labor charge of around $696.00 per hour. This pricing was significantly higher than expected and has raised concerns about the overall value and transparency of the service provided. No bill provided. Just my keys handed back to me. Needless to say, my cars will continue to go downstate to be serviced by the shop I used for years before moving because the one thing I can count on with them is not being taken to the bank.
Just wonderful service. Took car in for a check on some rear end noise and told it was just worn tires. No push to sell us the tires (I had to ask) and didn't "find" something that wasn't there. They have my trust!
I've been going to Jerry's for a year now. It has always been a great experience. Jim is one of the best mechanics around. His pricing is fair and he goes above and beyond to make both major repairs and general maintenance as pain free a experience as possible. I highly recommend his shop for your automotive needs.
Amazing repair service! Jim is such a great guy and will bend over backwards to make you a happy customer. Very clear and honest! After 45 years of driving and maintaining cars I give it 5 Stars!
Working in the automotive repair industry for 18 years myself, and having been around the headache that modern (~35 years old and newer) Water-cooled Volkswagen cars can be my entire life, I had overwhelming discomfort taking my van to a shop in order to fix a potentially catastrophic fuel leak; but it was -10 degrees, I had limited tools, was about 450 miles from home, had to work tomorrow (today), and had to bite the bullet. Jerry's was the closest shop to our hotel, so I called over there on a gamble.
Good gamble to make. Shortly after calling AAA and making arrangements to get the vehicle towed to their shop, I had to inform the hotel as to our group's troubles and basically see if they were cool with us lingering around the hotel: "Oh, so you're the one Jerry's was calling. Great shop, that's where we take our cars, they've never done us wrong." Later, the tow truck driver said "Jerry's does great work." Admittedly, I'm not sure if that's just how it goes in Gladstone and Escanaba, but in Detroit this kind of enthusiasm about auto shops is rare. Usually a positive review of a place goes like: "you'll light less money on fire at that one."
When we pulled up, I was shocked to see another Vanagon in the parking lot getting worked on; somehow I had inadvertently stumbled on the place that *gets* foreign auto repair.
The shop was very accommodating, and they absolutely knew their stuff. Understanding my issue/timetable, I was given options as to the level of repair and I, having 3 other people with me groaning about their own obligations, went the cheapest, quickest route- but rest assured, had this issue manifested itself on Friday, I would have gone with the complete repair, because these guys are great.
Upon getting home my girlfriend said "I bet you wish they were local," to which I responded, "Absolutely not, because I'm a dumb person and will probably drive this thing up there again next year. It's comforting to know that knowledgeable, honest, and good mechanics are there."
It is a testament to their craft that I am not writing this review from the burn ward of a hospital. Thanks for everything!
Great customer service. Very knowledgable and friendly. Not over priced. Very busy and it may take a day to get your vehicle worked on. Always call ahead.
Great service!! We were loaned a personal vehicle while ours was being repaired. They looked around for replacement parts that saved us half the cost if it was purchased at a dealership. They finished the repair in the time they told us. Very friendly. Overall we are extremely pleased and won't have any quams about returning.
