Where do I begin. I took my 98 Honda there because it had the following issues.
1) Intermittent starting. It started when it wanted to.
2) The motor would shut off when you were driving.
When I bought the car I was told about the intermittent starting and was also told he had put a new ignition in and had a key made at A1Keys or something like yet.
So the first time I took my car to Rustys
A) New distributor
B) New plugs
C) New wires
D) Replaced the valve cover gasket

Got the car back 4-4-25
Car failed to start at Circle K gas station after filling up the gas tank. Called for a tow.
Note my husband and I sprayed starting fluid in it and it tried to start. We have been telling them this whole time it appears to be something wrong with the anti theft system cutting off the fuel.
Second time I had my car towed there.
A) Replaced the ignitions wiring harness.

Picked car up on 7-24-25 at 4:15(ish)
Called for a tow less than 2 hours later. I am sitting here stranded in a thunderstorm in the right lane of a busy street in front of the YMCA and the Kimball House Museum hoping nobody comes around the corner and hits the back of my car with me it.
They WILL fix it right this time at their expense. To be continued.
Don't trust them.
They aren't truthful.
Sent us home without fixing it correctly.
Then charged us again to fix their mistakes and part they should have ordered in the first place.
Plus they installed without a bolt. They just left it incomplete... My car was misfiring and it lurched forward twice while braking, my foot was on the brake pedal to the floor and it still lurched forward twice almost into incoming traffic.
They put us in danger. For their incompetence.
They also didn't disclose all information on what they were doing they just gave us an itemized bill that cost triple and put our car in the back lot for asking why should we be charged again for 60... I'm assuming.
$680 first bill.
$192 second bill. ($60 on the phone)
And he talked about costs waived for the second bill.
spent almost $2000 with this guy and got nothing done except a basic alternator and not even sure if that was done correctly since my lights have been flashing inside the car ever since I got it done zero out of 10 recommend go anywhere but here in Battle Creek
Driving home from Michigan to Ohio my transmission went out. I pulled into Monroe, & they couldn't help me but recommended Rusty's Auto Service on Helmer Road in Springfield. When I got to Rusty's they immediately test drove it & determined that the transmission had gone out. I'm a senior citizen & had my daughter & granddaughter with me...3 women stranded about 300 miles from home with no car. Rusty was nice enough to offer us his loaner car to get home & saved us the hassle & expense of getting a rental car. He even had his guys go over the loaner to make sure we didn't have any car problems even replacing 2 tires.
Rusty had my transmission replaced in less than a week, charged me a reasonable price & saved me rental car costs for one week.

I was referred to Rusty's by Bob and Mary Greene (Mark). I took care of their Aunt at work. They told me to come here for oil changes which I am, but I had to bring my sons 2003 Cadillac here because the breaks and wheels and stuff (excuse me I don't know much about cars LOL) and they got him in ASAP, he's been without his car, his baby, for a while and I WAS ECSTATIC that they got him in so fast. They found the issue and the communication was amazing. They always let me know what they were doing every step of the way, very trustworthy and caring people here and that's exactly what I look for in Car service. Rusty has kept our Toyota’s & Lexus running in great shape past 300,000 miles & lets us know when the opportunity/cost is time to junk the car. He also works on our Lincoln Navigator. Honest & finds low cost options, usually half the cost of a dealer. We’ve used Rusty for our car maintenance & repair for over 20 years. I highly recommend his shop!

I took my 2010 Toyota Prius to Sunshine Toyota last summer because the AC wasn't blowing cold, and I specifically asked them to recharge it. They told me they couldn't recharge it because the compressor was bad, and that repair was going to cost me $2,500. At that price, I decided to live without AC for a while. Fast forward to this spring, I asked Rusty's Auto Service to look at the air conditioning. Dropped the Prius off to Rusty, fully expecting to have the compressor replaced. They checked it out, and there was nothing wrong with the compressor. They recharged the AC -- $130 and it's been blowing cold ever since! I'm so grateful to those guys for being honest and saving me so much money!
First time taking a vehicle to Rusty's. Best Customer service I've ever received. I will take every vehicle I own to him in the future. Good work, nice guys.
Rusty's has earned my trust and respect through hard work and honesty. 1st thing to understand is that it's a shop that's run by humans in today's messed up job and supply chain economy. I had a major job and as my luck would have it, he was booked for several days and he had a few mechanics out sick. He informed me when I dropped it off n I opted to wait rather than go elsewhere. When he got to my job, his mechanic properly diagnosed my problem and the parts were ordered. I didn't expect my parts overnight considering they are rare plus today's messed up supply chain.... When my parts came, Rusty was quick to get them put on and get me back on the road. What more can you ask for?
P.S. - Some of the negative reviews are ridiculous... Rusty's does not need to loosen other parts so that you'll come back and spend more $$$. He's got plenty of job security.... It's normal to notice things that you did not notice when one of the more dominant issues is fixed.... Just like you can't hear the house furnace come on when the washer or dryer is running, you may not notice an issue until a more dominant issue is fixed..... Rusty's doesn't need to loosen other parts to keep you coming back... or to make a paying customer miserable.
My engine oil low lite came on and I still had 2,500 miles before my next oil change was due so I called rusty and he said to check the dip stick so did and it showed hardly any oil on the stick. Rusty gave me the # of M&M towing and had me tow it to him. Long story short he told me it was a broken cartridge in the oil seal, fixed it and I went and picked it up. He typed me up a 1 yr warranty for my engine and I was on my way. Thank you rusty, your the best
The crew do great work on all my vehicles, his prices are unbeatable and he's the most honest person I've met. For $350.00ish dollars he got me 2 new tires and an alignment. Discount tire wanted $395.00 for just 2 tires and they don't do alignments.
Called rusty last minute last night explaining the code diagnosis, he told me to drop it off 8am and he’d try to squeeze it in. By noon he had another diagnosis, resolved it, and was ready to pick up by 2:30. Nice guy, straightforward with his services and reliable!
Rusty is amazing, took excellent care of me. I flew in from out of state to pick up and drive home a restored 1961 pickup and broke down on the way, lost a drive shaft. Home is Oklahoma City Oklahoma; Rusty got me back on the road same day, even though it required staying and working 2 and half hours past closing time. I was treated like family even though I was just a stranger passing through. Thanks for all of the help it was much appreciated.
I've been here for a handful of repairs to my Honda and Toyota. They specialize in imports although I've seen non imports there as well. The owner is an ex Toyota dealer mechanic from what I'm told. While not as upscale you do get a slight feel of a dealership service center but more reasonably priced. They've been honest in each of my experiences and are willing to physically show you the problem. They also will report repairs and oil changes and such for Carfax purposes although I've not verified that. That's just what they told me. They're always quite busy and for good reason. If you're tired of the runaround and crazy high prices at your dealer especially if you have an import, give Rusty's a try.
Took my van in for a routine water pump/timing belt job. Everything went smoothly until I got the van back and was hearing all sorts of noises I wasn’t hearing before. Took it back to them and they tried to blame everything from a cracked bumper to a loose hood to something being wrong with my suspension. They never got it back up on the hoist to check their work. Drove it for a couple days until I could get it into the Toyota dealer. They looked everything over and found that the alternator and engine mount was loose. Who knows what kind of problems that could’ve caused down the road! I spent $900 on that job and had to spend another $300 at the dealer to have them fix it. I will never let them touch my vehicle again! Avoid this place at all costs. Their labor rate isn’t even that much cheaper than the dealer so just take it there. They actually know what they are doing.
I was here in Battle Creek over an hour away from home when my car broke down and even though these guys were booked up, they made time to squeeze me in and get my car fixed within 24 hours. They were kind and professional and extremely easy to talk too. I would recommend them over any other shops in the area!
I’ve been going to Rusty since I had my ‘04 Mazda now I have an ‘04 Buick Lasaber. Today I brought her in for an oil change and told Rusty about the issue that I was having in this cold weather. Namely having to have it jumped way too many times since the start of February. I also bet him it was the battery (the manufacturing date on my old battery was 03/08) he told me he wouldn’t bet against me on that one. Lol! I’m Rusty’s “problem child” when it comes to cars I think. Anyway he got me a battery at a good price and got me on the road ASAP! He’s always great to work with and a pleasure doing business with. It doesn’t matter the make or model of car Rusty does it all (ok maybe not the Tesla’s I heard they have to have a special mechanic for those.) But Yeah, you want a great mechanic you can trust with a great team GO SEE RUSTY!!!
We've been using Rusty for 10 years. They brought my first car to 243K miles, and my husband's car to 140K before we got rid of them. Rusty and his crew are knowledgeable and we've always been treated with respect and honesty. I have other coworkers who also only trust their car to his shop. Highly recommend!
Took my 2000 Dakota to Rusty’s to get the rear brake line that runs along the frame rail replaced and the front brake lines. Total was $525 and said that they had 4 hours of labor in it. I checked things out when I got home after picking the truck up and discovered that all they did was run the new brake line to the rear on top of the frame rail. I replaced it many years ago and the correct way to run the line is along the inside of the frame and is secured to numerous brackets to ensure that the line doesn’t come into contact with the frame, itself or the fuel lines. There was nothing at all securing the entire length of the brake line from the brake junction block near the reservoir all the way to the junction on top of the rear differential, which is around 10-11 feet. So I had to go through and place dozens of zip ties around the frame to secure it and prevent it from rattling against the frame and fuel lines that it ran across. The front brake lines were ran the same way without anything securing them. They also didn’t remove the old brake lines, they just busted the last six inches or so off of each end and left them. The front brake line junction block was also hanging in the air and was able to bounce/hit the line running to the rear of the truck. I secured all of the lines the best that I could with zip ties because if I hadn’t they would of rubbed holes in themselves and possibly my fuel line. Please avoid this place they charge you double or more than what they should and do the lowest quality work possible. What they did to my brake lines was extremely dangerous. Would give them no stars if possible.
I should have been taking my 4runner and Tacoma here a long time ago!! Rusty and staff were very helpful and knowledgeable! My 4runner and tacoma are running great! I finally got the right solutions to the problems I was having! I wouldn't even consider another shop if you have a Toyota!
Very happy with service performed by this facility. Treated me well, answered questions in a non-condescending manner. Diagnosed problem quickly and scheduled the repair soon after. Price of services required very reasonable. Vehicle is running much better now. They have an excellent warranty policy as well. Owner and service manager are friendly and professional. Rusty does a great job for me. I've been using his garage for service for about seven years. Any issue that has arisen has always been handled to my satisfaction abd there have been very few. Trustworthy! !

I do not write reviews. Ever. I generally believe that most services do a adequate job. Rustys, goes miles beyond. I originally was told by a different auto service in the Charlotte area that my vehicle needed $1000 plus in repair work. After purchasing the parts myself I called to have Rustys install them. They quoted me roughly $600.
They called me soon after I took my vehicle in and told me that the vehicle did not need any of those repairs. After having my Jeep on a lift and alignment machine for about 3 hours they told me that I owed them a whopping $65.
An honest mechanic is sadly difficult to find now days, but if you're looking, you will find them at Rustys.
