It's better to take the car to the dealer. It's the same price, and that's not knowing what to do. They took away my camera's memory so I don't see what they did.
Best Volvo mechanic around. I've been driving Volvos my entire life. It is difficult to find reliable service for this reliable vehicle. If you have a Volvo I highly recommend bringing it to Jay's for service. He also sells vehicles that he has completely gone through and updated any components that are not satisfactory. If you are buying a used Volvo from another location he offers a pre-buyer check. I had him check my current Volvo XC90 before I purchased the car.
I had a check engine light on my 13, S60 and needed to inspected. I used my scanner and pull a "evap pump leak code". Took it to Jay's, he told me that he used he's scanner and that the problem was a broken door lock, not an evap leak and charged me $105 to tell me that. I took my car to the Volvo dealer and they replaced the evap pump as that was the actual problem. My car passed inspection after that.
$105 to give me some bs about a door lock. Go there at your own risk, I learned my lesson.
Went to get all new brake pads, front and rear, and 2 new rotors in the rear. I said it numerous times to make sure we were clear. $900 and a day later i got 2 new rotors and only rear brake pads. I will say he also changed my rear diff fluid and oil change. But not happy paying $900 and not even getting what i originally asked for done. He also priced out another $2k worth of work on my bill. Still have all the problems i had when i dropped it off.
Jay knows his Volvo's like no one else I have ever met. When I took my S80 here the first time, he correctly told me what he thought was wrong with it and even correctly guessed nearly my exact milage before ever seeing the car.
His loaner fleet includes several Volvo's with 200-300k miles on them still running beautifully.
I don't think I'll take my Volvo's anywhere else after experiencing his expertise.
He is not going to be the cheapest service option, but this is definitely one case where you get what you pay for. If you want to love your Volvo for a long time, this is definitely the place to bring it.
The only place I actually trust to fix my Volvo. That's not to say there aren't other good places, but if you are looking for a person who will fix your vehicle correctly and save you money in the long run, Jay is the person you are looking for. He does not cut corners, does what he can to save you money, and you can tell he loves his work and respects people. Gold standard, without question.
