Great service! I needed to have testing done on the 6-volt Bosch generator and regulator from my '65 Porsche 356. It was done while I waited, and fortunately no problems were found. I could not find any other shop who had any idea what to do with those components, so I drove almost two hours to CAE, and I'm glad I did. They were knowledgeable, and such a pleasure to deal with.

I had an issue with a starter I purchased over a year ago. Hesitant but went back for an alternator and explained my situation and they made everything right. I’ll definitely be going back here for anything auto electric related in the future.
I'm totally impressed.
I brought a marine starter motor in there and they tested it and of course it was bad. They also confirmed that the starter motor is unique in that it's spins the opposite direction of 99.9 percent of all starters. So a replacement was not available, but they rebuilt it in 1 day. They also took the time to help me understand the wiring since the boat is an antique and has some unique wiring that I needed to understand.. plus they were nice.
had a 1929 starter rebuilt, a few weeks later it failed and they fixed it no charge. they also made cables for me for the same car. They are my go-to place for starters, alternators and generators

1981 Paris Rhone alternator in my Porsche was intermittently overcharging and charge light was illuminating. It was rebuilt 2 years ago but was never quite right.
Dropped it off at Chelmsford Auto Electric, explained the problem and picked it up 2 days later.
Have driven 200 miles in the last 2 days and it is rock solid at 13.8 volts and charge light is out.

Great to find these guys! They were able to repair a specialty, hotrod alternator for me. With same day turnaround nonetheless! Unit seems to function perfectly after installation. Will be doing more business in the future.

ive been bringing my starters and alternators here for years, I'd rather have these guys do a repair than buy a new or reman. I save money and have never had a problem with a repair they've done. They go right through it and tell you what you actually need. They do good work and am glad they're there....I'm actually on my way this morning with an alternator i pulled out of my daughter's car 2000 328i.
Last week was my first visit to this establishment. It was a long drive for me, but it was surely my most positive (vintage) auto experience of the season... When I got home, I emailed everyone in my vintage auto network. I enjoyed the long drive home. I was smiling all the way home, in the far right lane....TOTALLY GREAT!
You don't get a second chance to make first impressions and this shop impressed the heck out of me. Like most folks, I checked the reviews looking for somewhere to bring the alternator out of my 2004 GMC Yukon for diagnosis and hopefully repair. I showed up at their shop mid morning on a Monday. In minutes, they had tested it, found it was in fact bad and offered two options, new or rebuild. I chose the more economical option for them to rebuild it for $89.00. Brian asked how soon I needed it, I explained I made the trip specifically to their location, I live about 25 miles away. He said they could have it done in two hours, offered to work through the lunch hour. I ran a couple errands in the area.
Brian called in under two hours. The alternator was ready. Their service blew me away, it is not often today to receive such a quick turnaround.
I installed the alternator, back to 14 volts and a happy kid to get her truck back.

Absolutely blown away with the service I received. Dropped off the electric motor that runs my hydraulics on my bucket truck after lunch and it was good to go the same day. All at less than 25% of the cost of a new one from manufacturer and I was back on the road next day.
i love older cars and winter beaters they have done a dozen jobs for me and my buddies over the years. great company great employees and easy location to get to.
my father has been doing business with Chelmsford Auto Electric since the 80's they have always had awesome service since the beginning.
why buy a re-manufactured auto part when you can buy a PROPERLY diagnosed and PROPERLY rebuilt part for less than the price of re-manufactured parts? some of my customers believe buying re-manufactured parts is like buying new because the parts look all shiny. believe me i have had too many re-man parts to replace because they were slapped together i do not EVER install re-man parts for anyone anymore.
doing business with these people is a no-brainer every repair we have done on our own cars and other customers are running strong. i have complete confidence in their expertise.
on a side note they even repair antique horns! i now have 3 beautifully rebuilt 1951 Chrysler imperial horns fixed by them. they do have the conversion products to run these off 12 volts.
please do yourself a favor. give these guys a try you will be glad you did. it saves time and money, And supports the small business. what more could you ask for?
