Rowe's youth camp was truly life changing. It helped me develop confidence and self-esteem. It provided the space for me to mature into the adult that I am today. I can't over state the positive impact this place and the people had on me. I am so thankful for the experience.

My money was stolen from my backpack in my cabin when I attended one of camps. No attempt was ever made to repay me. The thief was a fellow camper who was only caught because he also stole from a master sleuth and overall legendary man named Dan Ross who happened to be a staffer that year.
Rowe is amazing!!! Last summer I went to camp there and loved every minute. It’s super accepting and everyone is nice. I made some of my closest friends at Rowe and I highly recommend it to everyone.
This year will be my fourth year at the camps, and I wish I had started going to the camps sooner! The staff are really nice and accepting, and I miss it every day.
I had a dreadful experience there--had to pick up a prescription from a drugstore in a neighboring town, and didn't have a car: everyone was completely unsympathetic and unhelpful. The director kicked me out (for being too much trouble, apparently) and the staff wouldn't even drive me to the bus stop to go home--I had to pay a hired driver. Moreover, I felt very unsafe and couldn't enjoy any woodland walks because of the bear problem which everyone just shrugged at.
Its a great place to learn things, and meet interesting people. The site is in the forests of the Berkshire's and is a wonderful place for hiking, meditating,etc. The staff are phenomenal. Its not fancy but its comfortable in a rustic and natural environment. And the food is great!
Rowe has been great both for me as an adult: they offer so many good workshops for adults AND for my kids: their childrens camps are awesome.....and now my Grandkids go to Rowe.
I have been to a number of fantastic weekend conferences and also to adult camps. It is wonderful to have time away with a top-notch facilitator and like-minded people.
There is a lovely dining hall and good, fresh food with many options. Everyone helps with setting up and cleaning up.
I always stay in the cabins which are rustic in a wooded setting which to me is perfect. There is a modern bath house.
There is a stream with a waterfall one direction, a lake for swimming another direction, and a small mountain to climb in a third direction. All of these are within easy walking distance.
It is a magical community for relaxation and spiritual nurturance and lots of fun.
I participated in two Men's Councils at Rowe in the early 2000s. These Councils were the best week-long experience I have ever had. Sparrow and his assistants were extremely caring, professional, and insightful. Their "spirit" infected everyone during the week.
The one criticism I have is that, as an asthmatic, the facilities were too mouldy and dusty; e.g., the cabins had bunk beds and the barn had couches. Occasionally, I had to cover my mouth or to uses my rescue inhaler. So, if you do not have asthma, you should be OK attending a workshop there in late Spring (but I won't guarantee that) :-)
The Councils are always in early June so spring in the Berkshires is slightly behind the rest of N.England. If my lungs could handle the environment, I would love to return again. A date in late summer would probably be OK for me, but not for Sparrow and is assistants, sadly.
This is an extremely biased review, but this is the best little unitarian universalist conference center there is.
Rowe Camp and Conference Center provides a homey and calm environment, out in the quiet wilderness of Western Massachusetts, perfect for community and spiritual journey. The center conducts and hosts various conferences year round, and runs youth camps in the summer. Its grounds spread onto a wide stretch of wilderness, which includes a meditation hut, several cabins, a recreational and dining hall, a sauna, a labyrinth, and many other points of interest.
A serious perk: the wilderness area is mostly poison ivy free, but watch where you throw your meat scraps: there are bears.
Overall a beautiful place, well worth a trip into the mountains for whatever your purpose (though drop ins aren't exactly expected.)
