Quickest inspection sticker service ever! Granted my car is new, I was still so shocked they got it done in 5 minutes!

I went there to fix a noise in the front left wheel and change the brakes! Then he told me I had to make a new appointment and I asked why! They removed a screw from the rear shock absorber to make the noise so I could go there again! My van felt like it was going to explode. I went to another mechanic, stay away from this scam business

This shop came through when others were busy, though it was a bit pricey. They also do inspections ($35 cash only) so you can get it all done here.

Been using Tom's for years, so does my daughter. He is honest, and does a good job. I have a car that can be a challenge. Tom's does a great job and tells me if it's something they can't do. ?

Went in for a simple oil change. They tell me my car needs a passanger arm. It was driving fine. I had them fix it because he said I couldn’t get a sticker. $600 later. Then he tells me he found that I need my front brake fixed. $450 . I knew he was lieing to me. My brakes just got fixed. A day after he did the front passages arm. My car drives so bad. It just isn’t driving the same. It holds back when I step on the gas petal. And is making noise. It was fine and driving good before they touched it. I am a woman. They seen me coming. What kind of place does what they did. Go in for a basic oil change and they find things to fix on your car. I just bought that new car . I am going to a trusted auto place to see what they did to my car. Will never go there again.

Took about 5 minutes for my inspection sticker. I guess that's good, not sure if they really checked anything though. Gave me a January sticker when my old one said November.

I brought a vehicle there for a used vehicle pre-Purchase inspection. I told them what I knew was wrong with it but I wanted everything checked. They put in their shop for 15 minutes and came back out with a receipt of confirming what I knew what was wrong with it. They told me it needed brakes which I knew and then verbally quoted me $2000 to do a brake job which is ridiculous. then they told me I had an EVAP Problem and a O2 code. Told me it would be $7000 to do all that work. Satire at best. Also they did not check the whole car because the AC doesn't work and also the emergency brake Doesnt work. Which i figured out on my own after I left. So they did not even fully inspect the vehicle and then charge me $120 to confirm what little I already knew about the car. Also the shop wasn't busy at the time I brought the car so it doesn't make sense why they wouldn't just do a thorough inspection of the car to check everything on it. I wouldn't bring a car back there For anything. I don't think this is fault of any of the mechanics working in the shop more the management That need to treat customers more fairly and actually try and help them out I think this is is a perfect example of why the auto industry has a bad name In general because everyone complains about not trusting their mechanics. I did not want to have to write this review But I think I got robbed of $120 For them to tell me something I already knew without figuring out more about my car that needed work Which is the situation. anyway I just thought I'd share my experience And again I did not want to have to make this review I do not do many reviews

I’ve been going here for years for inspection stickers and oil changes. They are top notch. The mechanics are friendly and courteous. I have always been taken care of immediately when I arrive. I would highly recommend Tom’s Auto Repair.

WOMEN AND THOSE WITHOUT INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE BEWARE!!! My girlfriend's mother needed a valve cover gasket on a simple, conventional 4 cylinder car . As a former mechanic, I looked at it and diagnosed what it was, priced the part out, but simply did not have time to do the job. Her mother advised me that she had a mechanic she had used prior to me and that she trusted his work and he had treated her fair in the past. I did not go with her and was not present for the estimate or drop off of the vehicle. I figured the job would cost around $250-$350 dollars based on my knowledge of the industry, and boy did these people gouge her. The entire job cost a whopping $567.00. It started off with a $50 diagnosis charge on a problem that you can readily and visibly see from looking at the motor, without even removing the plastic engine cover. They were also advised of what the problem was prior to the car getting there so I'm not sure what the diagnosis even is. Next, they charged $99.95 for the Gasket. THIS is where I really started to question their morals. I decided to do further research on the cost part because I knew what it cost at autozone. ($32.00) I called NAPA ($37.00) I then called the dealer and priced the gasket by the dealer by giving the VIN ($41.00). I know mechanics mark parts up, but over a 100% markup on a part is unacceptable and crooked. Next, knowing the industry I was able to use "all data", a system used by mechanics to accurately price out work, and found the job is supposed to take 1.8 billable hours to the customer. They charged $350 in labor in addition to their made up $50 diagnosis fee for a 30 second diagnosis that had already been done, which at their $120 per hour rate, works out to 2.966 hours. (don't ask me how they get that figure with a repeating decimal, other than making it up clearly). Lastly, they charged $50 for "cleaners and sealants" there are no additional sealants required other than maybe a dab of grease for the coil packs, and a can of brake clean which is more than likely all they used is $3.99. Again, I understand a mark up but this is gouging. So with all this information I now felt compelled to get involved. I initially was met with resistance by the cashier who tried explaining me away. When I pushed for any explanation on the nearly doubling of the suggested labor charge and the more than doubling on the parts, I was asked "oh are you a technician?" When I stood my ground and said yes, he only then got the owner. Once again, I was met with resistance. The owner would not produce and documentation on the parts actually purchased, would not tell me the supplier (which I assume is NAPA based on one being up the road and them being a supplier that delivers and offers large commercial discounts), or the cleaners actually used. He also tried telling me that the additional time was for cleaning, even though the cleaning time is allotted in the all data estimate. I once again stood my ground. At this point, he offered me $30 off admitting that the time is over estimate. I stood my ground again. He scribbled on his paper, not looking me in the eye, generally being evasive and not being able to offer any good arguments as to why he charged so much for the parts or labor (he told me he marks up his parts 20-40%, and that he does not provide customers with parts receipts, even though he marked up his part over 100%) he once again offered $80, would not tell me what the $80 was for, and then said "will that make you happy?". I told him no, but that was all I was going to get. Seeing that I was talking to a crook who was not going to divulge how crooked he is, I took the $80 and walked out. So my advise to those going here is to choose another mechanic. I hate to write negatively about any business, however this is a clear and easily identifiable lack of moral principal and a negligent way to operate a business.

I went to Tom's for a oil change and a woman who could not drive almost backed into me. The mechanic was starting to put my car in the garage when the same person backing up again, if it weren't for the mechanics quick thinking she would have hit my car. Thank you to that mechanic.

First I had made an appointment early morning, for the next morning. Got there when they opened and wanted to push my appointment back to later in the day. Secondly, they installed my tires wrong. That's right, they installed my tires wrong. Tire manufacturers put a yellow dot on tires so when mounted it should correspond with the valve stem. They told me that they had issues with balancing and said my wheels were all dented up. Wrong!! The dot, which is the lightest spot of the tire, was nowhere close to the valve stem. Therefore you're already fighting a losing battle when you try to balance it. I am a mechanic by hobby and never have to bring my car into any service shop but don't have a tire machine. Might have to buy one now or just never go back there again.

They overcharged me on my MA State Inspection. They added a non cash adjustment for a service who's price is set by the state. Go somewhere else that doesn't have deceptive predatory pricing strategies.

Nice people and quick BUT total slobs. When they went in back of my vehicle to check the operation of the rear seat belts during an annual inspection they got a HUGE amount of grease on my headliner. It is a total mess! The guy must have had grease either on his hat or his back. The headliner is grey and is probably ruined. If they can't do something as simple as a car inspection I would not trust them do AMYTHING on my vehicle.

Took my ram 2500 here several times to fix a minor engine leak which quickly turned into a nightmare. Was told project would cost 3 grand and just needed a new part but needed up spending over 7 and problem is now much worse. Decided to get the problem checked out by a certified truck specialist and come to find out every part put in was all wrong. Don’t make the same mistake I did go somewhere else

Not sure how their repair side is, but state inspections are awful. I was failed for factory window tint that this very same location and inspector passed me for last year. In addition, their inspection techs can’t drive a standard. Stalled my vehicle numerous times, and the techs solution to this was to ride the clutch. When I got back to my vehicle all I could smell was burnt clutch. I understand the state can be fickle about window tint but if you work in a repair shop you should know how to drive a standard. Hard pass.

Totally just ripped my wife off. Air conditioning broken and two visits and a thousand dollars later it still doesn’t work. Was told to take car to Toyota because if they kept trying they would just blindly be ordering parts till they guessed right. Offered no compensation and owner said he could do nothing else for us. Sad they used to be honest. Avoid like the plague

I used to refer people to this shop constantly until I was slighted this month. My car wouldn’t start so I had it towed to Tom’s. AAA tech suggested it sounded like I needed a new starter. So I asked for a new starter. Instead, I got a new alternator, battery, and belt for $850. Drove my car 4 times (to work and back only) until my car wouldn’t start again. Another AAA tech told me it sounded like my starter. Had it towed back to Tom’s and what do you know… $593 later for a new starter—what I had asked for originally. If only I had been taken seriously and not treated like someone who knows nothing about cars because I am a woman. No sympathy or apologies—just a “you needed all of it.” In reply to your response, you literally just repeated what I stated in my initial review ?

I've been using Tom's for general maintenance since moving to Dartmouth 6 years ago. They're a friendly bunch and always get you in and out as fast as possible. I even used Tom's as an impartial 3rd party on a vehicle sale a few years back. Highly recommended!

went in yesterday around 2 to get an oil change and diagnostic. was informed by the guy behind the counter it would be done around 2:30. i let him know I wasn’t seeking any work to be done, just a computer diagnostic run for my check engine light. he never took my phone number down but I didn’t think much of it because it was a quick procedure. came back at 3:15 to a completely dark closed shop with my car locked in the garage overnight, no one waiting, was never informed the shop would close so close to when my car was set to be done. went back today an hour after they opened at 9 to find out they had installed a part in my car and were charging me almost $300. i was shocked because not only had they kept my car without contacting or waiting (their own fault) but they had taken the liberty of doing work to my car without asking. i was obviously upset and asked them to take it out and voiced to the guy that he was continuing to waste my time, to which he seemed irritated and snapped it was only a 20 minute job, he wasn’t wasting my time- but again, they had my car since 3 pm yesterday. asked if they could take some of the cost of the oil change/diagnostic for the huge inconvenience and mistake on their part, to which the guy seemed outraged at. no apology at any point.

Over the course of one year I brought my car to Tom's with a recurring problem of overheating. Tom first diagnosed the problem by replacing the hoses. A month later he replaced the radiator. A few months later the overheating continued and he again replaced hoses and clamps. I brought my vehicle to a reliable shop who determined the problem was in fact the thermostat and heat sensor. Tom charged me three times for diagnostics services and failed to correctly diagnose the issue three times through either device or incompetence. I ended up paying $1700 for a $200 repair. When this was brought to Tom's attention he refused to fix the car and told me to take him to court. Stay away from this place. He is robbing people blind.

Serious price gouging! I came here for an inspection and was failed due to my 3rd break light (the strip on top of the car) being out. I was told it would cost $250 to replace because it was an LED strip. I went home and found a brand new part online for $60 and was able to replace the part within 5 minutes despite no mechanical experience. I came back for the retest and passed inspection. However, to be fair, the staff was nice and provided good customer service. I would have been happy to regularly come back for repairs if not for absurd price gouging. I've included a picture of the part from the online store for reference.

The messed up my car too! I went in there for a routine oil change and the next day had a huge leak under my car. We went back to get another one probably a few days later nothing was said about oil gasket leak or anything. A day or two my car starts making a huge crunching noise.... we take it to another mechanic he said our oil plug is missing!!!! How do u do an oil change and not put that back or maybe he just messed it up! Now 600 bucks later....bc there was no oil going to parts of my car the caliber is gone, need a new tire rod, oil gasket oil plug, gasket in engine. I realize these last few posts where put up recently. So something is not right ...please avoid this place even just for an oil change.

This place ruined my brake system. I went with low brake pads but a working system. Now my brakes won't work at all and he said he must of broke it pushing the piston back in. Then , he says , I have to leave we are closing, but if you want, wait after the 3 day weekend and Tuesday he will charge us to fix the problem THEY CREATED. Now after Tom's, I can't drive my car for another three days until memorial weekend is over. Then the mechanic there says, "why didn't you do it yourself" . Terrible service and they got 800$ worth of my money and fixed NOTHING. Don't waste your money on these guys . You WILL encounter issues.

I mostly go to Tom's for my oil changes when im in a pinch for time. A bit more expensive than some places but $35 and about 10 minutes of time for a basic oil change. In and out no hassle everytime. Had them try to fix an issue with my window. They tried and failed but they let me know ahead of time it might not all work out. Overall Ive never had any issues with these guys. Nice amd polite staff as well.

Over priced especially for tires cost me nearly 500 to replace tires on my 2001 Toyota Camry. Already had to replace one. Would not recommend this place to anyone, sparks, barums, and Dartmouth tire much more reasonable

went there for a new oil pan...they put the oil pan on wrong and bent it so it constantly leaked oil. i bring it back to have them check it out and they say i need to rebuild my engine.....i bring my car to a buddy and says yeah it's just the oil pan. So i pay $500 for their mistake. i tried going back to them to confront them but the mechanics tell me if i tell them i'm wasting my time i need to talk to tom the owner, who is always conveniently not available when i go there or call. never go there i agree with what someone else said they're scumbags do not recommend for anything.

Totally ripped me off with my sticker. Had a rejection sticker from July on the car when back in Sept and got a new sticker not only did they charge me again they have a sticker for July. I asked how can you give me a 2 month old sticker they said well that is when your car was rejected. And I had to pay twice. Looked into it and they are legally required to turn unused stickers at the end of the month so how they still July stickers is beyond me. Total rip off.

We had our Subaru serviced at Tom's for 3 years. Excellent service every time. Several times, for minor repairs, they did the job at no cost. Integrity.
