Dad would bring me here 40 years ago. Fond memories. Called about a 2016 Kia Soul headlamp assembly. Dio said he would have someone ck the yr of the ones he had. I called back said he had a 2015 and quoted me a great price on both headlamp assemblies. I canceled my Amazon order. That afternoon I walked down to car after rain. Got ate up by mosquitoes. 2015 Soul had NO front clip so no headlight assemblies..Zero knowledge from staff on inventory to include Dio. Disappointing and it’s not how I want to remember this place.

Have lots of Parts you can't find elsewhere along with great pricing unlike newcomers truck parts.

This is how a junkyard should be. Simple straight to the point. This place must be protected at all costs. Viva la grimms

A great place I just discovered for car parts. Prices are very reasonable compared to surrounding businesses in the area. I would recommend them for sure.

Always find what you need. Will work with you on price. Oldest junkyard in the US from my understanding. That said. I'm not a real superstitious type. Last time I was there some things happened I still can't explain. Easy to let yourself imagination run wild at night. But In board daylight? Okay. I heard moaning. Like too hurt to talk, moaning. I literallly thought somebody had had a car fall on them. Or had a heart attack. Kept calling out. Got about 20 feet from the sound. A car whose doors were all open. No battery. Front end pushed in. The open door alarm starts going off steadily when I walk up to it. Key was in ignition. No way a starter or alternator is holding a charge for months. A nice steady ding. I take the key out. The moaning sounded like it was literally right next to me in the car. A summer of weeds was growing around it waist deep. Looked in the trunk. Looked underneath. I asked if they needed help to beat on something. The fricking moaning stopped, and suddenly Im teeth chattering, and shivering cold in full afternoon sun and 87 degrees out. It freaked me out. On the off chsnce somebody was hurt. I said something to one of the workers as I came back towards the front. He cocked his head to one sode and grinned. All he said was "so you went all the way to the back lot"? Like what does that mean? Then I realized what he was saying. Nobody was hurt back there. I've been unfortunate enough to see quite a few people in their last moments, I know what agonal breathing sounds like. Only one thing makes sounds like that. I don't shake easy. And it's shook me pretty bad. Not even scary. Disturbing. My instincts said walk away....and Quickly.

I have been going here most of my life. It is a really cool old school place if your into "the hunt" to find parts. You can walk the yard unlike most spots. HOWEVER, having said all that, I must mention I never thought there prices were that low, only fair -BUT.....WOW- This establishment has now lost thier minds on pricing. At this point usually a minimum of double $ what I pay on my weekly excursions, within 100 miles at other yards.

Always gives me fair pricing and if I don’t want to pull a part myself, the staff there are always more than willing to

Elwood is very fair on his used auto parts and labor if he works on your vehicles. Definitely would recommend 100%. Glad I found him because I feel like he is an honest mechanic and that is hard to find nowadays.

The most incompetent people I have ever dealt with. I called and asked if they had a certain size tire that I needed and was told that they had them. I told them I was on my way to come get them expecting them to be ready for pick up when I showed up. I was told they had to go out and get them from the field or trailer or whatever. After waiting for over half an hour was then told that they didn't have the tires.

I have a older model Hyundai Sonata a 2003 year I called one Hyundai Dealership and drove to Hamilton Dealership to find that the sun visor kit is discontinued for that year thank you Kevin .R and the other service guy for the effort and information about my sun visor. It was broken it jus dangle if I wanted to block the sun so I called several Junkyards went to a few had no luck so I called Elwoods in Smithsburg MD they said yes we do have that year they were very helpful and and I had a nice conversation with them all there I would recommend calling Elwoods they just might have what you need at this Junkyard..

I'd give it slightly less than 5 stars just because I needed a machete to get to certain things but it's a salvage yard so not a deal breaker by any means. This has a lot of great options even much older vehicles. Everyone I spoke with was great and helpful. Definitely coming back next time I need to grab a part!

Friendly staff with a large lot. You can free roam, find what you need then go grab one of the guys to help you get your part. This is an old school yard though. No itemized records of what cars they have just organized by make and model over several acres with lots of weeds and stripped cars strewn about, bring long pants and boots. I wasn’t too pleased with this place not because of the service but the organization. I drove an hour one way to look for a fairly common part I’m sure they would have if they had the car at all. I called ahead and asked for a very specific year range ‘05-‘09. The gentleman I talked with said he wasn’t sure if they had the part but confirmed they had several cars in that generation. When I got to the yard and went to the section with the vehicle I wanted they had several cars but all of them were heavily stripped and ‘04 or older so I left empty handed. This is probably a good place for sheet metal cut outs for guys doing rebuilds on old cars and stuff like that but if you’re looking for parts for anything in the last decade look elsewhere.

don’t go out of your way to come here, this place is kind of a joke. unorganized and unprofessional. called yesterday to see if they had the parts I needed and they said they did, gave me a quote, and said they won’t pull them until I arrive. I drove over an hour to get there, then they said they checked the vehicle and it doesn’t have the parts I need. It’s like they have one job when someone calls to see if they have the parts they need, and they messed that up. so make sure they double check if they have the actual parts before making the trip.

Person behind the counter was super rude and very unfriendly. A local auto parts store had called them for us to see if they had a part we needed, they said they had just got in a wrecked car the same y,m&m as we needed and for sure had the part. When we showed up (15 min later on a car that supposedly just was dropped off that morning) the part was not there. After not finding it on the car we asked the person at the counter about it saying just 15 min ago they said they had the part, he just stood there with a blank expression and said I dont know. Did not ask the other employees if someone had happened to pick the part, or look up similar fit parts on a different car, nothing

I live almost an hour away, I called about a specific part (specified year, make, model, engine, and trans), was told they had multiple vehicles with the part I wanted. called a 2nd time to confirm before making the 2 hour round trip. Yep they had it. Go there, they were busy so I went into the yard to look. They only had one vehicle with the year and engine I asked about, and that one had no engine or trans, so did not have the part I wanted. Wasted time walking around the yard looking for another one they said was "just around the corner" but when I could not find it for the 3rd time, the worker came out and said "oh, someone must have moved it" total waste of half a day.

My car was damaged and I decided to scrap it. Elwoods was nice for letting me keep it there but would not pay me until I brought the title. When I finally got the title and he was about to pay me which was less than what was verbally agreed, so I began to mention the nice features that the car had. As soon as I mentioned radio, he said "well lets take a walk and check out that radio." When we got to the car he said something like "what a shame, looks like your radio was stolen." It's as if I was dealing with some mafia scrap yard. There is not a doubt in my mind that he or his guys stole the car radio. I was going to give them the entire car, radio and everything, as I was just trying get rid of it. Its the principal of the matter that he would steal and be dishonest.

Old time junk yard no computer parts lookup, drive hour and half just to search. Place is huge but many of cars should have been crushed 30 years ago, all they are stripped rusted shells. Weeds cover almost everything so ware snake boots.

Great Prices. Do it yourself, or have them pull parts. I paid WITH card; they don't "only take cash" like some reviews say. Good luck!

Would give more stars if I could, great people and help, give you the choice of going to get what u need yourself for a cheaper price or they'll get it for a few dollars more. My vehicle isn't one you see everyday and they have 2 of them that match perfectly literally beat AutoZone prices for the parts i needed by 300%

Was there today 12/11/2018. Customer service was Excellent! The gentleman at the front desk asked what i was looking for i showed the part. The part was a VW passat height seat adjustment Gear assembly. He showed me on a aerial picture exactly where to find the VWs and Audis. AUDIS are on left VWs are on right. Either one would have worked for me. Took me about 30mins to look though cars, test the part, verify part and remove part. Removing part was the longest part of my time. I was very impressed by the selection and even walked out with a gas door which i was originally not planning on getting but needed on cause mine cracked. I would say im very impressed and HAPPY. All for $30. Cheapest i could find was $44 on ebay but then i had to wait on shipping time. Which was going to be a problem cause were expecting snow and this is my snow vehicle. Super happy. Thank you everyone. I will say i grew up with the Grimms Kids and this was my first time at the junk yard and i will be back. Probably very soon. Thank you!

I went for my first time yesterday after being told good things about this junkyard. I live in WV and we can’t pull our own parts. This has been a bummer and I missed the thrill of walking through a huge junkyard searching for the parts you need and pulling what you want. They have plenty of imports and domestics. They also have everything from that rare 70s Honda to a full size RV. Cons: while they have some cars junkyards for hundreds of miles don’t and they are fairly organized by make there is weeds growing everywhere around and through many cars and some are placed way too close together to get access to. This could be fixed with a weedwacker or just moving sections of cars and plowing the land down then placing them back.

Called this business and was quoted a firm price 75$ and then after driving an hour to get there...the employee says "oh we can't get that for you until tomorrow and itll be 125$." Waste of time!! Should've told us on the phone instead of letting us drive there and he knew we were driving there too. Very unprofessional.

It's a pick it yourself auto salvage. This was my first time here but there are several issues with this place that I noticed. -It is easy to miss this place. There is no sign out at the road to know where the place is located. -Parking is awful and very limited. -I went into inquire about vehicles that may work for parts for my car and was told to see what's out in the lot. There seemed to be no inventory of the stock or what was in their field. - you have to carry everything in and out. They don't allow personal vehicles. They do have some workers that can shuttle you in and out but that's about it -the vegetation is overgrown in several areas around the vehicles. I had to wade through grass and weeds 4 feet tall just to search for a compatible vehicle. Some of which had small thorns and scratched the legs. Good point is that they have a wide variety of vehicles available so know what you're looking for and years compatible. When in doubt, you can call the office and they can look in their computer to be sure. I have been to better salvage yards over the years and this place has its issues but I would com back again for parts.

I like supporting local businesses but have discovered new parts online are cheaper than the used ones at this salvage yard. Good for getting a full size spare tire and rim or if you absolutely need something that day.

I've bought both late model and vintage car parts from Elwoods. Their organization leaves a lot to be desired compared to ther yards, but they do have quite a few older Mopars which has been helpful to in the past. Their old Fords are nearly impossible to get to due to the overgrowth. The prices in my experience are reasonable.

Easily found a passenger side door for my 2006 Camary. Had 4 vehicles, 3 with the door I needed, all (doors) in good/great condition. An associate helped my father remove the door, carried the door, and drove it to the entrance for us. Very helpful and nice associate. Would definitely recommend this place! If you're looking to get some parts, I would also bring some gardening gloves and some pruners. It'll make getting the part a little more comfortable.

Good salvage yard to pull parts yourself. However, I can never tell who's actually working there, and they like to high ball prices. Know what your parts are worth before going to this place.

I am not sure what the name of the establishments is, and the confusion doesn’t stop there. Beware of pricing! When you walk in it is hard to tell who works there and who is just here. Pricing varies from person to person and customer service isn’t a part of their vocabulary. I suggest you get the price before you go and pull a part of a vehicle. When you initially ask for a price for a part, their response will be that you have to show it to them. So you go and pull the part - you come back and show it to them and they give you an outrageous price. If you have the time shoot down to Crazy Rays in Frederick.
