Dear Value Village Management,
I am writing to formally express my concern regarding the customer service I received during my recent visit to the Value Village Thrift Store in Landover, Maryland.
During my visit, I interacted with an employee named Darlyinton. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing and did not reflect the level of professionalism or courtesy I expect as a customer. I found the interaction to be discourteous and unhelpful, which negatively impacted my overall shopping experience.
As someone who appreciates shopping at Value Village, I was surprised by this experience. I believe in providing feedback so that concerns can be addressed and improvements can be made. I respectfully ask that this matter be reviewed to ensure a more positive experience for future customers.
I would appreciate acknowledgment of this message and any steps that may be taken to address this concern.

today 2/7 @2:30 the older woman working the self check outs had a nasty attitude which is embarrassing for the store. she was wearing a short wig that was black to brown ombré. she should find a different job if she’s mad doing her job and can’t maintain decent composure or behavior. really embarrassing for this locations, other thrifts have better employees. she needs to check her attitude the worlds gonna treat her how she acts
Something is going on with this store. This store was not run like this last year. The clothes are all dirty, sold for 15+. In this economy? For secondhand clothes? It’s robbery when they try to accuse you and spy on you when in reality you’re the one leaving the store with lighter pockets. Instead of investing for cashiers they opt for self checkout where the workers are watching you. They also rather have a mediocre security guard with half a brain there to belittle you. The employees are also very rude are occupied by watching you when the store could use some cleaning. They’re encouraged to do this which is sad because you have less trouble visiting a trailer park for a garage sale.
Wish I can give it a 0 like others have described that man is a maniac!! Would love for him to fired the store has amazing products the staff are so disrespectful a girl got an attitude because I wanted to know the price of a couch like cmon!!! Worst staff ever terrible
i have been going to this thift store for the last 10 years it has changed in the worst ways i understand prices increase throughout the years so im not gonna touch on that. but the staff that has been hired over the course of the last few years has gotten more and more nasty, rude, and disrespectful to the customers. The African American Security guard doesn’t secure anything, runs his mouth and is loud and obnoxious to everyone he doesn’t take his position seriously and his tone of voice like other staff members are rude and unnecessarily loud. i’m making this post because I have observed firsthand these staff members talk elderly people and others in such a disgusting way it makes me never wanna come here again. i hope things change if not beware and One day they will come across the wrong person who has the time and patience to go back and forth with them on their level of disrespect, and they won’t be happy to say the least.
HIRE RESPECTFUL WORKERS!
was profiled at the self checkout was stared at and made uncomfortable. It’s scary having a man tower over you like he will pounce on you. the white old man and the boy with the tacky dress pants and red vest. Sweet looking face but he’s rude and nasty. The employees seem to be rushing and shoving all the time but the store looks dingy and dirty. also whew talk about the prices. Thought i was shopping at marshall’s not a thrift store
There was a lady who worked there that had long dreads who was simply nasty, she talk to the customers as though she was having a bad day. I will never go to that store again.??
Worst shopping experience of my LIFE. The brown boy with the chopped haircut tried calling the cops on me for accidentally missing to scan the $2.50 bag. The cops for a bag!?!? After that, he was hogging me and manhandling me while i tried to scan my clothes. The only crime there was how high the prices are for secondhand clothes..and how i was being harassed…overall, they watch you and inconvenience you because they want to play police officer….was a loyal customer but after being accused of stealing by a boy who smells like a seasoning cabinet i won’t be coming back here. Rude workers, high prices, and potentially being thrown in jail over a bag is a no from me.
I WENT TO THIS STORE AND THEY DECIDED TO STEAL OUT MY PURSE SMH. THE SECURITY THERE IS NO GOOD HE IS IN KAHOOTS WITH THE WORKERS AND DECIDED TO TELL ME THAT THE WORKER DIDNT STEAL MY MONEY OUT MY PURSE. BE SAFE WHEN YOU GO HERE WHEN I GOT INTO IT WITH THE WORKER THEY CALLED GANG MEMBERS TO COME TO THE STORE AND WATCH YOU AND WAIT UNTIL YOU OUTSIDE THE STORE AND JUST STARE AT YOU. I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO THE STORE ITS NOT SAFE THEY DONT VALUE THE CUSTOMERS.
I've been shopping at this location for several months, but after today, I won’t be returning. I had a coupon from a sister store that I've used here many times.( Both stores are under the same brand.) Today, the coupon wouldn’t scan at checkout. The store manager explained that I could no longer use the coupon due to recent business changes but said she’d "be nice" and apply the discount anyway. She then offered me her personal coupon, which she claimed would prevent her from using it for her own children. WHAT?!
How did a simple transaction turn into her personal martyrdom for me, and at the expense of her children? I politely declined, but she insisted, saying she could just get another coupon.
The whole experience left me feeling disgusted. I ended up buying just one item to avoid any further interaction with her. I’ll gladly drive 40+ minutes to my old store to avoid dealing with this professional victim again.
April 4, 2025- My playsister and I went to the thrift store around 2:45 pm. We saw some nice things in the ladies clothing section.!I am looking specifically for Pink Cherry Blossom ? theme attire to perform in. I did see a pink jumpsuit but did not like the short butterfly sleeves. I saw a gorgeous red gown but it was strapless. I saw a beautiful green cocktail dress but did not like the length.!On the other hand , my sister purchased two pair of shoes (Skechers), and three pair of comfy pants. She was so excited and happy!!!Oh well! I will come back next week. My show is April 16th!!!
Went to the store and as I was checking out, the cashier came over to me and said “that’s not he price of the item because it’s not a sport item” (price said sporting) ITS A DART SET!!! If that is not a sport item then what is it? He calls his manager for pricing and I waited because I have brought things to the front without a price before, usually the manager to comes over, looks at the item and then price it. But this time the manager came over a with the price sticker in his hand already and without even looking at the item puts it on and it now said “furniture”. I purchased at this store all the time and haven’t been humiliated/discriminated as I was this time. Absolutely unreal.
Hello all! I have been coming here for years and I love the prices and fashions it has helped me to find business attire for many occasions and I leave satisfied at every trip! The ladies are an amazing Staff especially Ms.Rebecca! She is such a sweet lady and is ready to help my husband and I quickly. Even though it's a store, her warm hospitality is greatly appreciated! Many blessings to her!
They sell defective items and refuse to refund. Yeah, I know they are secondhand, but VV can at least inspect and test the items before putting it up for sale. Otherwise, they are just ripping you off.
I went to the thrift store and I bought a blender. And they tell me that they cannot exchange the blender . So be careful what you buy and see your receive if they exchange what you bought. And I went to try and exchange my blender and the lady who was saying that she was the manager and I think her name is alpha my daughter put her hand under the cashier keyboard and she tried to smack her hand out of the keyboard and she just stared at me and she thought that was good. And I had a bad experience with her I feel uncomfortable when she was talking to me because she was saying that I was raising my voice when I was not racing my voice and she was just mad and she was the one who was raising the voice and I hope that value village see this message and tell her to be more kind with the kids cuz smacking a kid's hand it's not okay it's it's not even her kid to be smacking my daughter's hand.???
My go-to thrift store but in recent years, it has gotten increasingly expensive. I went during the first few days of October to find a white button up. A simple white button up, no patterns, not anything else 22 dollars?!? .. it's all self check out too, there was no one at the jewelry stand (waiting like 15 mins), the aisles are super narrow.... Like can't have two people walk down narrow. It's okay, just wish it was better.
Impressive selection of clothes, toys, and housewares. Easy to donate items and you get a coupon when you do so. Took off a star because there are no dressing rooms. Will definitely return!
They have a lot of great stuff, I loaded up my entire cart with clothes. I was really disappointed to find that they don't have fitting rooms, so I headed to the checkout, which is ONLY self- checkout, planning on taking everything home to try it all on. I removed the hangers from over 30 items and was mostly done scanning, my total was well over $200. I asked about the 30% discount for new members, it's advertised all over the store, and no one seemed to know how to actually get the discount. They said I would get an email anywhere from an hour to a few days with a coupon. I was under the impression that if I joined the reward club I would get the discount right away, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Fortunately, I asked about the return policy before I paid, and they don't take returns, only exchanges. No fitting rooms and no returns. I left my whole cart there, I'm not buying clothes I can't try on and can't return. What a giant waste of time. Two stars because they do have nice stuff, but the prices are somewhat high for a thrift store and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to their pricing. T-shirts were anywhere between $3 and $9, casual summer dresses anywhere between $6 and $17. I didn't see a clear difference between the items on the low vs. high end, it all seemed very random.
It’s Memorial Day and this is what I see all though the store. I’ve been Coming to this thrift store for years and love it . I’m doing this for one reason, So that management can see that people will stop coming because You keep allowing parents in the store that won’t keep their children with them. These are not the worst of the pictures. Children are pulling out toys and playing with them and leaving them all in the floor. Please get this together.
There's lots of selection. Things seem to be organized fairly well for a thrift store. The aisles are narrow.
The prices are ridiculous for very used items. Even when they're name brand they're still used and they're priced as if they're new with a bit of a discount. Be sure to go on Thursdays, I think, with your loyalty discount.
I did find a couple of things I was looking for and I will go again but not as often as I would if the pricing was better. I put back a lot more things because of the pricing.
Also, just an FYI, it's all self checkout.
Just a preface first:
I’m in here quite often and I only really come back because I am shopping for someone else most of the time and because of some of the nice employees. The management on the other hand is very racist. I am black and in my mid thirties. If you are black, they will follow you and watch over your shoulder from the aisle behind you or in an aisle adjacent to you. They don’t seem to do it as much now because of how often I’m here or because they have a security guard. Although management knows my face, me being a regular, they still suspect I’m going to steal. When there’s multiple black shoppers in one department, they will send a couple of employees to watch over and “straighten” all at the same time. Occasionally, some of them will do a quick glimpse inside your cart. On one occasion, one of the employees followed me out of the store into a nearby store and I know he followed me is because this employee still had his green smock on so I don’t believe he was on break or anything.
There a lot of items to choose from, but the prices are too high in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, you can find a deal, but you have to look and you need to know about retail pricing to really know if something is a good deal.
They do have self-checkout which is good, but those machines are only for card payments. At the time I visited, there was only one register open for cash payments and the line was down the isle.
Picked up this Beach Cruiser & a Nice Ninja Air Fryer. (Both Items Came up to $93.00 after Coupon) It Was Tapped Shut,& didn't feel the need to check. I got Home & on the inside was A Blessing! I could not believe the Value of a few coins & bars of metal ?????
I found a Cisco firewall and 2 two Network switches. all powered up. im a networking student. something to practice on. I will go back to see if I can find some routers.
