Tried to charge $1200 for getting car out of snowbank, then 911 operator mediated and we got the price down to... A bit less than $800. Even though we were quoted at $500-$800. Apparently it wasn't $500 because two vehicles were sent out, but we were already informed of that, so they never should have given that range at all. Just a stupid and childish manager at this place, whoever we called. But let it be known that the guys who actually helped us were saints. They did an amazing job and even turned the car around for us (it was a very tight space). So thank you for that. That's why it's two stars. Also, for the record, it didn't take too long for them to arrive. But considering they weren't very far away by Maine standards, that's not a huge ask. I am still grateful though considering what a lot of companies get away with up here...
We were up visiting from MA. Our car slid off and icy snowy dirt road and down in a ditch. Cliff was great! He got us out and to a paved street so we could get back home. And they take AAA! Best possible turnout for us.
My boyfriend was having car issues and a kind man called a tow for him
Smiths showed up and after opening the door asked for $100 up front
As my boyfriend hadn’t called we didn’t know there would be an immediate charge
So smiths then proceeded to harass him and then threaten to call the cops on him
I guess a call was made to the boss or whoever that said we had until Wednesday, I figured they would give a couple days to pay a charge anyways but whatever I guess not, charge was paid Tuesday but I would NEVER recommend them again for as long as they have those two men working there.
Chip and his team are nothing short of professional and timely. I’ve seen them help others many times. Today it was my turn…. Pulled to the side to let a tailgater by in a snow storm on Rt9, and got sucked into the ditch. Chip dispatched promptly, and the driver arrived quickly. The drive was clear with instruction and got us back on the road FAST! THANK YOU
Wanted to take a moment to recognize this company's excellent service and job well done! Showed up an hour early and was very personable and professional. I needed a ride back, and they had no problem with me and my partner riding with them. Seriously, if you need a tow call this company because they will show up and take care of you.. and that counts! Thanks Smith's towing for making a setback a whole lot easier to deal with.

We are from CT, up opening our camp for the season in Lamoine. Called Chip after our car broke down while we were out on a scenic drive in Machias. His driver Tony not only towed our car all the way back to Ellsworth, but then took us home to Lamoine. Tony could not have been nicer, very professional and nice to talk with for a long ride. Would highly recommend Smith Towing!!
We were stranded in rural Washington County with a flat tire at a trailhead in a relatively remote area 50 miles from Meddybemps on a Sunday. Geico could not find not only a towing business in operation on a Sunday, but also could not find a company to provide tire service. Smith’s solved all of our problems. He was there in exactly an hour as he stated he would over the phone. He gave us a realistic plan of execution to resolve our emergency situation. He drove the two of us and our dog back to his shop in Meddybemps in an attempt to find the right size tire, unfortunately to no avail. No problem. He suggested we stay at the Calais Motor Inn in Calais and use VIP to fix our tires. He gave us suggestions of where to eat and local amenities. He dropped us off at the Inn, and then dropped our vehicle off at VIP himself. Overall above and beyond service. Thank you Smith’s Towing & Recovery!
