Along Route 4 in Madrid, Maine, just north of the village and beyond a row of white pines, sits a field with a unique pile of rocks The property, marked by a sign reading 'Welcome The Light of the World Cross,' belongs to John Boyko and features a small cabin filled with information and pictures of the rock pile, artfully arranged to depict the face of Jesus on the cross. This ongoing project, started in 2012, is open to visitors who can explore the horizontal cross of trees, strategically placed shrubbery gardens, and the large stone face adorned with an ornate and abstract crown of thorns, which is lit up at night. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the small building and support John's work with a small donation.
