Poor experience - brought in a clean aluminum tank, wouldn't take it since couldn't see inside. Fair enough. Did as requested, cut bottom out of tank so completely visible inside, returned. Jerked around by employees who insisted they still couldn't take it, then they are surprised that I cuss them out for jerking me around. Do yourself a favor and take your stuff elsewhere. One star only because zero isn't an option.
Great experience. Professional, friendly staff, the man in the booth and the nice lady who reimbursed me for my scrap metal (decommissioned burglar bars). Easy to get there and easy process. I’ll use them again.
Ive used EMR Southern Scrap for more than ten years. Ive dealt with the same quality people, for a long time. Know your metals. Separate em appropriately and you wont have any problems. Prices are always comparable. Know before you go, might be closed to the general public on Saturdays.
I drove through the gates around 4:47 PM. Their hours say "Entrance Mon-Fri 8am to 5PM. After getting direction from someone at the main shack. I made my way to the ferrous metal scales. The signage is not very clear how things operate. I was told in the future to try to arrive around 4:30 PM.
I then went to empty my truck off the ferrous metals. I came back to get my slip. I drove around to the non ferrous shack to drop of my copper and aluminum. I stood around for a second trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Then I heard someone yell behind me that they were closed....it was 4:59. I said "You aren't going to take my metal?". I got no response.
This is the sign of a poorly run business. I inconvenienced them by showing up within their posted hours. Their sign makes it clear that you need to be inside the gates by 5. "ENTRANCE". The fact that they post Saturday as 11:45 suggests they want to be out of there for noon.
I drove all the way from almost Kenner pulling a trailer. The people at the pay out trailer didnt say a word to me.
They couldn't take an extra 5 minutes to take care of a new customer.
It was a very unwelcome experience.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE AT A CERTAIN TIME POST YOUR HOURS APPROPRIATELY.
Either you expected me to make a 25 minute trip back to sell the rest of the stuff OR you don't care about my business and you wish for me to go elsewhere.
I guess my poor treatment may have been because I am white. I'd hope not but it strikes me as possible.
Thanks for wasting my time. I'll be going elsewhere.
I strongly recommend that people do the same and go somewhere else. This was abysmal.
Fastest scrap yard in town, and they keep it clean so i dont have to worry about my tires.
Their barcode keychain system makes it easy and so do the step by step scale printouts
Would give zero stars, went there to scrap a car battery but they refused to take it, said my U.S. Passport was not adequate ID, which i did not see any mention of having to hav an ID to recycle there, it was a waste of time
It was my second time going here since a long time ago and Shelia was very kind and helped me out swiftly and efficiently. Really appreciated her service .
I recycle aluminum cans and have always had an exceptional experience with EMR on Lafitte. The facility is clean and organized, the staff are always friendly and helpful (including Sheila at the front office and the nice young man who takes my cans in the back) , and their system is seamless. I have visited other recycling centers to recycle my cans in the past and will now never go anywhere but EMR on Lafitte.
Everyone at emr lafitte working the scale are very helpful ,knowledgeable and friendly.
Mrs Sheila the cashier is very friendly and always ready and quick at her job.
Sheila was the best. I gave her difficult task and she came through for me. She went above and beyond her job to help me on pure kindness. I would recommend EMR above all other recycling businesses.
It was my first time here and maybe the 3rd time over ever been to a scrap yard. The staff was extremely helpful in explaining how everything worked and a gentleman even pointed out to me that I had several pieces of copper which were worth a good bit more than the rest of the scrap I bought. Highly recommend
It's a recycling center. If It came with caviar and a free carbonated ice water, I'd give it 5-stars. It's super closer to my house. They are reasonable workers. It's a bit confusing the first time you show up but you'll do fine.
Overall, it pays marginally higher than the uptown recycling center. I'd give them a 3-4 star (which BTW a 3-star to me is average). Thanks and I'll be back with my leftover metals.
Note: I dropped off 500-600 lbs of random metals (aluminum, old water pipes, metal roofing, etc) for $15-20. You won't get much anywhere, but its about recycling rather than simply throwing things away.
Everything went smooth except they tried to screw us out our money by marking #1 clean copper as insulated which is a big difference in money. Thankfully they straightened it out and got us the correct amount of money. They do good work but check your receipts before you sign anything. Also the lady inside the office had the worst attitude towards us once we found out they marked the wire wrong.
Please change your closing time. I drive an hour from my house to get to your place of business an hour before your closing time. On your web site it says 445 and when I arrived it was 330. Thank you.
