What clients say about Equus Run Vineyards in Midway (KY)

We live locally in Midway and frequent Equus Run. We always enjoy our time at the winery from time to time, but lately visits have been made that much better by Tatum! She has a sunny disposition that enhances our experience and makes our time there all the better. She even got us signed up for wine club which we have been able to enjoy and get out of the house more as new parents. Have always loved Equus and been coming since about 2016, but coming more now with our new membership and Tatum there! :)

I hope my review can come close to adequately describing how lovely of a time I had today at Equus Run Vineyards. I came on a lovely Autumn afternoon to pick up a bottle of wine, enjoy the beautiful weather, and check out the tasting room. First, I was immediately greeted by a precious little black cat living on the property, name Black Kitty! I can always tell there are some good people involved in a business when there is a well-loved cat that has a home on the property. The kitty is very sweet and if you allow it to feel safe coming up to you, it will! Very sweet! I tried six wines today: the Bluegrass Brut Rosé, Merlot, Equestrian Merlot, Equestrian Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, and Cabernet Franc. My personal favorites were the sparkling rosé, the regular merlot, and the equestrian pinot noir, though I loved all of the wines I tried! I also had a glass of the seasonal sangria and was so pleasantly surprised by it! It was mixed with apple cider and it was the perfect balance of sweet cider with red wine. It was delicious! I would buy a whole jug of it if I could! I really enjoyed what I tried, and I took home a bottle of the Merlot! The atmosphere is beautiful. The tasting room is quaint and precious, right at the front of the property. However, there are many places to wander and relax. There is an entire outdoor seating area with benches, tables, and little covered porches. There is a little stream running through that is so peaceful and pretty. I sat outside and read a few chapters of my book, and then took a long walk around the property! It was so nice to explore the vineyard. The vines were all carefully trimmed for the season — a sign they’re well taken care of! I saw some precious birds and even a little rabbit spending some time in the rows! There is a pathway to walk on around the back of the property to see the nature, the grape vines, and the other buildings on the grounds. Everything was so peaceful and stunning to enjoy in the late afternoon. By far the best part of the winery, though, was the lovely people it draws in and the lovely people who work there! When I arrived, Cynthia welcomed me and introduced me to the cat! The employees in the tasting room were ready immediately whenever I needed help and were kind and friendly. They were attentive and always looking to help. When I went to leave Equus Run today, I had the misfortune of my car not starting and having a completely dead battery. My phone was also dead and I went inside and asked the employees if they had a charger I could borrow, and they spent some time looking until they found a fast charger to help me. Then, Cynthia spent OVER AN HOUR with me trying to help me jump my (stubborn) car. We chatted and she is such a sweet person. She was an electrical engineer, too, and had so much knowledge and was so helpful!! My car wasn’t starting just with connecting it to another car, so she brought out a power box from the barn and spent a while letting me charge it up, and finally, it started! I jumped up and down and we hugged! She was so sweet and helpful and took her valuable time for so long to try to help me start my car, and it meant so much to me. I was just so grateful that if I was stuck, I was stuck in a place full of lovely people who took their precious time to help me get home safely. I had such a lovely afternoon at Equus Run Vineyards and I highly recommend checking it out!

We were in the area for an event at the KY Horse Park. Equus is about 15 min away from there so we decided to stop by. The tasting room was cute and service was fast. We prefer dry wines which is sometimes hard to find in Kentucky. Their dry wines were all delicious. We especially loved the oak chardonnay and the petit Syrah. We are considering joining the wine club as well. My husband tried their spirits and really enjoyed them too.

Wonderful experience with our family tour and wine tasting! Pam was a great guide and made the experience wonderful. The wines and other spirits were delicious.

A great variety of wines. I'm dry red. The reds were excellent. Great banter with staff. Beautiful farm/vineyard. Event center, indoor/outdoor places for live music/concerts.

Our group of about 100 visited Equus Run for a weekend afternoon and had a fantastic time. The vineyard was able to accommodate our two coach busses, provided a great, private indoor gather space near restrooms, and provided a full-service bar complete with wine and beer during our visit. Not only did we enjoy the view and beverages, but the staff put together a photo scavenger hunt for our team that took us throughout the grounds solving riddles and taking selfies. All of the staff, from planning to execution, was helpful and enthusiastic, and the vineyard was beautiful—we had a fun, enjoyable visit!

This is a great place to hang out and listen to Fabulous music. Such a fun afternoon. A great wine tasting and then of course some wine to bring home. Branded Blue was the featured music and they were terrific. Visiting from South Carolina.

Went to a Mary Chapin Carpenter concert here. Lovely intimate concert venue. Bring your own chairs. Lovely wine choices and catered dinner to buy during concert. Great place to go alone or with groups.

Absolutely beautiful winery! Atmosphere was amazing! Wine equivalent to most wineries I’ve been to. Server was friendly but not enthusiastic otherwise I would definitely give 5 stars.

We often visit Equus Run when in Lexington. The staff is very dog-friendly and always so helpful. They also give a military discount, which is appreciated. My wife loves their wines, and there are several beers for me to choose from. The area outside of the tasting room is great for relaxing on the deck or in the shade of their trees, and we can walk the dogs on the circular path that runs along the nearby creek. Great wine; great service; and beautiful grounds. What more could you ask for?

Mediocre Wine, inattentive staff. Stopped in afternoon. Did a wine tasting in small plastic cups. Each pour, the server went back to look at cell phone & talk with other person. Then come pour & repeat. Wine is OK. Decided to get a glass to burn off afternoon & it too is served in a disposable plastic cup. Get more winery ambiance at a grocery store free wine sample table

Wines are pretty good. The winery needs more experienced personnel to sell product.

This is hands down the best wine and Vineyard I have ever been to. High quality wines, great service and very kind people!!! Normally only find 1, maybe 2 wines at all of the vineyards i have been to... This place tops it!!! I left with a total of 11 different wines but 12 bottles!!! I look forward to visiting again!!

Love this place! Staff was great, very friendly. Nice selection of wines even for sweet wine drinkers like me! Not 1 but 2 painted horses on property! Great scenic drive around the vineyards. Highly recommend!

My husband and I stopped at a couple wineries before this one and after reading the reviews about the lovely grounds and wonderful wines, we decided to head out to Equus Vineyards for ourselves. When we got there and stepped inside the tasting room, it was underwhelming. We were motioned over to the bar area where the server slapped two tasting menus on the bar and told us tastings were six for $10. We are fans of dry reds and there were several to choose from. The server looked really tired and not very enthusiastic. We tried 4 of the reds with interesting descriptions but sadly, they all tasted about the same. We also tried one of the rose` blends but only slightly better. The white varietal was very bland. We settled on a glass of Cab Sav and the rose. We took them out to walk the grounds which were really nothing special. The more my husband sipped his cab, the worse it got and he kept saying he felt like he was just choking it down. I kindly traded mine with his and now the choking was my turn! All the CNN hype about this place being a "Must See" hidden gem must be still searching for it! We ended up driving around the rest of the grounds before heading out of a very disappointing visit.

This was our first stop in the winery tour day. Lexi was so pleasant and well versed on the different wines. It was hard to decided which ones to purchase so we bought multiple with Bella Rosso Port being our favorite. The scenic loop is worth the drive grapes vines on one side and the south Elkhorn creek on the other.

Nestled between picturesque horse farms amongst the rolling hills just outside Georgetown this winery is worth the visit to just walk the grounds. Stroll between the grapevines , walk along the babbling river and then grab a glass of vino and sit on the patio overlooking the river. Or come for the excellent wine tasting menu and enjoy under the shade trees. You really can't go wrong spending a few hours here on a nice day. The wine itself is well priced. Their best is the fruit wine's and blushes with a pretty good Riesling and Moscato too. I'm not as big a fan of the reds. They do have some snacks on hand but you are welcome to bring your own food and it's a wonderful spot for a picnic. They also have recently started a distillery with Brandy and blue agave spirit on hand. A rye is apparently coming soon. The employees are super friendly and helpful and there is ample parking and they are very dog friendly. We really always enjoy a visit here.

Fantastic winery, beautiful place! The wines were amazing and our server, Bree, (spelling?) was informative and so very friendly. Add an inquisitive cat, Tuxedo, and a delicious bottle of wine and you get a very peaceful and relaxing afternoon!! It is too bad you are so far away from us! (Indiana)

All the ladies in wine tasting and sales were totally lovely and gracious. The music was terrific and our British friends were utterly impressed. Well Done Equus.

Excellent wine and beautiful facility. We stopped for a tasting and the servers were very helpful and friendly. We had a variety of wines, many of which we liked, chose one to have out in the garden with a sandwich from Wallace Station. I would recommend to anyone. They have fruity wine, reds , whites, blushes, and dessert wines. Something for everyone. We will be back!

We had an amazing time here! The wine choices were outstanding! We did the tasting and found a wonderful cabernet. The gentleman taking care of us did an outstanding job as he was the only one there with a packed bar. Kudos to him! Highly recommend visiting if you are considering!

Went there to check out the winery and the also had a band playing great music. Friendly staff that know the wines and can help you make a selection. Great outdoor seating and wooded environment all around. You feel secluded and comfortable there even before you have some wine.

We loved the Chardonnay and the Pinot Grigio. The patio was fantastic to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather a few weeks ago. We took a couple bottles home with us back to Cleveland Ohio.

Stopped in based on a recommendation from a friend. Had a great time with our host while sampling a nice variety of wines. I don't generally drink wine, but was able to tell them what I liked and have them guide me thru my six selections. On Sunday, they have live music. Would highly recommend and will be going back.
