Had an appointment, checked in, sat in vehicle with hood up and the inspector came out and did their inspection. After they checked the VIN they went in to complete the paperwork and I was on my way. Process took about 30-45 minutes.
I had a unique scenario I needed help with on two occasions and the KHP Inspection team, specifically Nancy, were very quick to assist and go above and beyond the necessary. I'm a firm believer in treating people with kindness and respect will more often than not get you that in return. Thanks, KHP inspection team!
My visit was on October 24, 2025. I'm only giving this place a 2-star rating because some people were nice. Other than that, I'd for sure give 1-star! Let's start with the EXTREMELY rude inspector Emily! I made sure to get her name because she was beyond out of line! She was blatantly disrespectful to all of us who were there for inspections! She was loud and rude and voiced how she couldn't wait until they stop taking walk-ins.....to us that were in line for walk-ins! She couldn't wait to voice her opinion around just her co-workers! The co-workers looked extremely embarrassed, and you could tell they deal with her rudeness on a daily basis! When the lady was helping me up front with a future appointment, Inspector Emily yelled from the back and said, "WE ARE ONLY TAKING APPOINTMENTS FOR TODAY!" The lady that was helping me had to calmly tell her that she's handling it! Smh! The next thing was the way the walk-in list was overlooked. There was a lady who was at least 5 walk-ins in front of me, and they passed her up several times! Had I not known, once they got to me, I would have just went on. Since I was aware, I pointed them in her direction! That was only fair! Now granted, the list can be overwhelming, I get that but, the problem I have is the fact that they take your name down and pull your I.D. With that being the case, they should know that the person they are helping is not the one on the list! That is definitely something that should be fixed! I don't think that people should be treated like trash because they are walk-ins! Do better!
Horrible service very aggressive person specially some short lady is clearly they are getting old and don’t want to do this job anymore time to retire, in the end of the day i paying your salary through my taxes
I’m not sure how this place could receive any positive reviews. The women who work here are extremely rude and borderline disrespectful. The only positive from my experience was the lady who does the check ins. She was kind and you could tell she was embarrassed by the way her coworkers acted. Walking around the office cussing in front of customers and assuming everyone is a walk in, and purposely argumentative is ridiculous. If you hate your job so much get a new one. I know working with the public is frustrating, especially when people want you to bend the rules or don’t have the required documentation needed, but for a government job like this you’d think they would have some customer service skills. I’ll gladly drive to another location in the future to avoid dealing with this behavior.
I had an antique truck with a special (pain) way to get into the engine. They got right to me. However I couldn't pop the hood. She told me if I got it open she would still do it. It took bout 30 min. She still got right to me after finishing the one she'd been working on. In and out in no time. The staff was very friendly.
Fast service. Real friendly and helpful. Easier to reach than I had feared it would be. I was there for an insurance but back salvage title. Quick and they walked me through what other steps would be needed.
Had an appointment and waited for 40 min, but no one came out to inspect it. After rechecking with the front desk, the lady took the wrong same color different model car and inspected it and crossed my appointment on the list. She did not think it was her fault and still complained the people parked cars close with same color. Bad attitude and doesn’t work carefully!
I just moved to Kansas from out of state. I got very lucky to arrive here on a Thursday, very early and get a walk-in spot but they are VERY limited. There was already a line well before 7:30am. You will do best to make an appointment, as walk-in spots are very limited and fill up quickly. Appointments get brought to the front of the line. The ladies were helpful and also directed me to the next destination for me to be able to fill register my car in Kansas. Be prepared to wait an undetermined amount of time if you are a walk-in.
I made an appointment in advance and it was at 9:30. It was a very smooth and quick inspection, I was done at 9:20. No complaints from me!! The inspector was very professional and nice.
So today was interesting. Went to the DMV inspections station at 2:50 pm today and it was dead. I walk inside and they were like do you a appointment I was like no but I thought you took walk ins. Three people sitting at there desk we take walk ins if we want to but appointments first. I was like well no appointments are here can you help me and my son. They said nope make a appoinmnet which is 2 weeks out and we are done taking walk ins today. Literally 3 workers just sitting at there desk and the sign says open but they won't help you..... Change your sign to closed and lock the door if you dont want walk ins
I scheduled my appointment in advance as required. I wasted an hour waiting while the ladies gossiped and played on their phones. An inefficient, pointless organization.
Possibly the slowest place to have a vin inspection. They accept walk-ins but prioritize the appointments first. Don't accept walk-ins if you won't do them. I was waiting over 2 hours without any help at all. Go to another location if possible.
LIKE A WELL-OILED MACHINE!! I wasn't sure about the process. However, the front door receptionist (Ozzie? Spelling?) was so kind and very helpful in guiding me on what steps I needed to take! The inspector was professional and very efficient! It only took 19 minutes from the time I pulled up until the time I left! I AM THANKFUL!!
Friendly,fast and courteous got us in and out. Says you need an appointment we didn’t have one. The older lady asked if we had one we said no she said it’s ok. We were there total Of 15 minutes. Arrived at 9:20am was done by 9:36
I would give half a star if I could lady I talked with on the phone was so disrespectful, I kindly was seeing if they could accept me as a walkin because they quit doing walkin inspections, i almost felt like I was being harassed and just hung up the phone. I'm here again on a day that was scheduled for me it's been over an hour.It says they're open on google, and I even got an alert on my phone the other day to confirm I was coming, worst service ever, you need to let people know and if there's going to be delays, you can't waste people's time like that.It's not our fault You have an office job. Honestly I hope trump takes down these inspection places lol doesn't even seem worth peoples precious time. I called kansas city police department on them to report them too, because over 7 cars were waiting for nothing.
My name is Stanislav, I used the services of the road patrol service for the first time, mixed up the reception time, arrived much earlier. But the patrol team accepted me without prejudice to other clients, although they were very busy that day! A huge thank you to everyone who worked today, I take my hat off to you.
This office runs far more smoothly than the website would suggest.
The website was obviously created by some bureaucrat bound and determined to live up to to live up to the authoritarian reputation so often prescribed to motor vehicle departments. Helpful information like "appointments needed at the Lamar location" really isn't very helpful when the "Lamar location" is ACTUALLY on 24th Street. Bureaucratic stupidity.
The staff and inspectors were friendly and efficient when I was finally able to get an appointment.
Extremely long wait times with staff who move at a crawl speed. Definitely try to book an appointment ahead of time if you can....unfortunately when I tries the next appointment they had was two months away and my temp tags would be expired by then.
Had a great experience from beginning to end. Made our appt online & showed up 15 minutes early as suggested on the appt confirmation. Went inside to check in & the clerk was super kind. She got us checked in & gave us the next instructions on what to do. We patiently waited in our vehicle while the inspection clerk came out to verify the VIN. She was also kind & efficient. It didn't take long at all & she shortly returned with all the needed paperwork & off we went. The whole process was smooth & everyone provided great service. Would recommend this location to others.
A very pleasant experience. The fact that inspections are by appointment makes it even easier and headache free. Everyone there was very nice. They do their job well and efficiently. Angela (I think that was her name but could have been Allison) was the person that performed my inspection and she is awesome! She was not only very polite and pleasant, but it was raining that day and I was getting wet standing outside. She had a huge umbrella and came over to me so that her umbrella covered me as well. She was kind and friendly and went out of her way to make me comfortable. I was coming from out-of-state. She answered any questions I had and took care of everything for me. She took a task I needed to do and made it a very pleasant experience. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her and all of the employees there.
Everyone who works here was very nice, kind and willing to help. I had a unique situation that required further assistance. Allison is awesome and kind person. She was super helpful and even talked to the out-of-state dealership over the phone to solve the misunderstanding on their part, and she went above and beyond and gave me a document clarifying the misunderstanding to help the dealership resolve the issue with the titling company. Thank you very much, Allison!
Considering it is the busiest in the state, and is a government agency, adjust your expectations knowing you're going to have to wait for a bit, and things move smoothly. Photo is at 725am - 5min before they open- already has a line.
