Food is great. Love the workers. Troy is a pretty decent guy. Everyone has their bad days. So can’t really fault especially as an owner him getting upset some times
Great pizza and service, TVs to watch, games to play. Several families with kids were there having fun. Bar, 3 booths and lots of table seating. We enjoyed going there. Atmosphere is family used not fancy. Close to Ames and Ballard, Huxley areas.
Found this gem when I visited my daughter at school. Nice hideaway bar. They have very good pizza - probably one of the best in Ames area. I believe I had a very good Ruthie drought also. Stop by!
This used to be my favorite pizza place in Ames. It had been around a year since I had been there, so I was excited to go back. But unfortunately, I was very disappointed when the pizza came because they had completely changed their recipe. The crust and the sauce fall way shorter than it used to. I can no longer recommend this place to visitors of Ames, and would now say Great Plains and Jeff’s are better options. Please go back to your old recipe. Thanks.
Im not going to lie, expectations were low, but the pizza at this place is legit. Actually awesome pizza.

Pizza recipe changed. Crust and even sauce taste different. Became VERY average. Disappointed in the change.
Tried going for first time guy came and got our drinks then never came back to take our order. Waited 20 minutes then left. They were not even that busy!!! Never going back!! They only care about their regulars!!
Here with a group of 24, they were called previously about us coming and were very unprepared for us. 2 people working and maybe 1 in the kitchen. Over an hour later a few of us still haven't been served while others are done and paying. The people in my group are saying the food is good, I'll take their word, I'm ready to just up and leave.
Fun atmosphere. Arrived around 6 pm. Place was almost empty. Came in with wife and 3 kids. Ordered two salads with Balsamic and received something that resembled Blue Cheese. Kids did not like that choice and did not see the server to ask for new dressings, so kids chose not to eat their salads. Ordered Pretzel bites as an appetizer and it was $9 for 6 little pretzels. They weren’t bad but price was more than double what it should have been.
Had to ask the young lady who brought our appetizers out for a drink refill because we still haven’t seen our server since he took our order. Went to the bar to get refills on our drinks and the bartender was nice an apologetic but it wasn’t her fault.
Now on to the main course. $19 for a 10” pizza seems a bit steep and was a staple into my decision to not want to come back, especially if I have my kids with me. Pizza flavor was not great and not the bang for the buck at all, even after waiting 30 minutes for it to come out.
Server finally came back after helping in the kitchen, which is admirable but the customers who are having to go to the bar to get anything they needs kind of takes away from the experience.
Not recommended if you’re looking for a great place at a reasonable price. Sorry for the honest option ion but 25 years in the restaurant industry you need to be honest sometimes with establishments that rely on customers to stay open.
We ordered cheese curds to start which were good but, they came in a small portion. Not worth the $8.50. Our two small children got corn dogs and fries, fried were soggy, not well cooked. My husband and I got a large pizza which took 45 mins, not sure why, there was 3 people there other than us. It was ok but not worth it. Bill was $50 and we weee there for an hound and a half. Most of which we just waited. Server was friendly.
Service was absolutely horrible. Troy spent more time on his phone and in the bathroom than helping customers. I watched 6 people walk out without getting served while we were there. Only positive was the cook was very helpful.
It’s time to start kicking out the 19 year olds with fake IDs. Additionally was physically grabbed by a waitress even though I had a stamp verifying my age from this very location (I am 23). Owner is not a kind person; definitely needs to reconsider working behind a bar during high traffic.
We refer to this as the bar in the "middle of nowhere". Nice place just south of Ames. The thick crust pizza is awesome! They have lots of unique and fun combinations. Several TV's to watch sports on as well as a large TV projector. Reasonably good prices and decent speed of service.
I went to R Place Pub and Pizza tonight for the very first time. I was impressed. The pizza was exceptional, as was the quick service and atmosphere. What a gem of a restaurant / pub located only 4 miles from Ames. I will be back. :)
Our first experience was amazing so we couldn't wait to get back. 2nd time around it was ok as the pizza was undercooked and our desert pizza tasted of garlic.
We'll try again assuming this was just an off night.
So disappointed! Husband, father and I were excited to check this place out! We ordered 24 boneless wings and a large pizza! The first batch of wings we got were completely raw just coated in BBQ sauce- the waitress said oh sorry about that and took from the table and brought out another order that had a bunch of tiny little pieces and said I told them to do better so hopefully these are better. That was all that was said about it. We had also added fries to the order of wings and so they took the fries back when they took the wings back the first round but never brought fries back out and still tried to charge for them. The pizza was ok. My husband would have had another beer or two but the server never offered to refill or even a water. We were hoping to find a new go to spot close but unfortunately due to the horrible service, and the raw chicken that was made to be no issue we won’t be returning. so sad because it seems to be a fun environment.
I had a 5 star review for this place, but after most recent interaction, I am disappointed. Service was horrible. The waitress had a horrible attitude and took the orders incorrectly. Additionally, the spicy curdes serving size was barely a handful, and Bosco sticks were incredibly bland. The pizza is way overpriced. 25 dollars for a watered-down sauce, which was too sweet. I hate fast food pizza, but I believe most in Ames are better. The gnats were annoying, too. On a positive note, it had a lively atmosphere and can improve tremendously! I have really high hopes for R Place!
We came on a random Friday evening as we wanted to get out of the metro, and a friend recommended it. We loved it. The service was fast and friendly & the food tasted great. They halogens to have music bingo (a fun surprise for us) and we loved it. It was much more fun & challenging than the music bingo we play in the metro (dj trivia). We will definitely be back! They told us they do trivia on Thursday's as well!
I went in there with a group of people. The bar was not very busy. A lot of tables were sitting there dirty. I went and grabbed a booth by myself and sat there probably for a half hour and never once did anybody come over to me. I wanted a pizza I wanted some food like what everybody else had sitting left over on their tables and no luck. If it wasn't for the group that I was with they're probably would have been maybe five people in there. I'm used to being ignored but I shouldn't have to do that in a public setting
Drive by alot but tonight was our first stop. Great bar theme (industrialists) and the pizza is unique and superb with a good bar selection. We will be back!
We usually stop for pizza. Which is awesome, but tonight we ordered a tenderloin. We shared it and my side was NOT DONE!. I spit it out in my napkin because it was not done. It was rubbery and chewy and gross. When I said it was not done, I was told it was 'conective tissue' - look that up! ICK!! No. I have had tenderloins many times. It was not done. Anyway. The atmosphere is nice, the pizza is awesome. But dont order the tenderloin. Hope I dont get sick from it.....
Great pizza! The thick dough version is still thin but I would say it’s better than the thin version for the style of pizza.
The sausage is best and their cheese and sauce is amazing.
This place has really phenomenal pizza and the owner Troy is really nice and greeted me and my wife with good hospitality. Their appetizers were very delicious as well so we will definitely be coming back and looking forward to it.
Literally in the middle of the country. A great stop with nice selection of beer, drinks and awesome Pizza! Hear the pork tenderloin is pretty good. Gonna get that next time we stop by. Our server was really fun.
The name draws you here, the food keeps you coming back. R Place is off the beaten path (I-35) but not too far. I would gladly make the trip for their excellent pizzas. The onion rings stand out from a lineup of great appetizers. R place isn't fancy, just a "good-eats" watering hole at the intersection of two IA country roads. I'll be back.
We had a Tesla pizza, some cheese curds, and a few drinks. Everything was delicious! The staff was super friendly! They have pool, giant jenga, pinball, and other games . Very clean, updated, nice place. We will be back!
Great atmosphere! Nice place to sit with friends and actually be able to talk without booming music, for the after work crowd. Bartenders very attentive!

We stopped here for dinner last night and their pizza was amazing! Family friendly and the atmosphere was great. Wish I would have taken pics of our pizza...just go try it - you'll love it. Awesome job to the owners, excited to go back w/ and w/out kids!
Wow!! Used to come here when it was cross roads and this place is way better. Classy feel with way better service. Troy has really made this a great place to go for drinks and food! This is the place to be for drinks food and a little dancing! Bathrooms are so so clean too!
