Waste your time on this place horrible customer service they tell you a price on stuff and then when you get there, they completely lowball you go anywhere else but here.
Love this business and they helps u and got it all done smoothly. True is yes waiting time but not a factor to complain about it. Very friendly atmosphere and safety. I kept coming back more and more when I have more metals cheers.
If you don't have time to waste then Do Not come to this place. Used to come here to scrap cars every few days but that was years ago. Was yelled at once for my truck over heating and spilling (water) on the scale. And very very rude staff.
If you are scrapping a vehicle save yourself the hour long wait and goto midwest right down the road.
Alters is a absolute joke of a company that will make you jump through hoops to get your cash.
Bring scrap wire here all the time and never had any issues. Some times they do get busy and you'll have to wait before unloading. However, the guys who help unload are nice. Unloading area is sheltered and heated. Take your slip of paper to the shack to get your cash. My experience here was better than one of the other yards in town.
Truck driver speaking- once you pull in you scale on the left. Very friendly and good directions. I had to pull around back into dock 2. It’s a blindside dock but plenty of room to maneuver. Had to wait a while to get loaded but very friendly people
Edit — your response inspired me to educate myself and it turns out I was reviewing the low value of a scrap vehicle, not your company. The payout was just shockingly low to me. That’s not your fault, the amount provided was in like with the market. Very nice staff.
Always nice people, if you don't want to wait in a line go in earlier in the day. Not the highest paying if you are looking to get the most out of your scrap. No complaints overall except pay was lower than other places. 🙂
I used to supplement my income with scrap for years, but haven't done much scrapping in the last 5 or so.
I took up metallurgy and saved lots of non ferrous metals to melt and cast, and realized how much my stockpile had grown... That and the loads of computers my son fixes, he has loads of parts.
Wife needed me to clear some garage space so I decided to pay Alter a visit.
Same guys at the non ferrous scale that were there years ago, still just as friendly.
They explained why they graded things where they did, I learned something and walked out with some extra cash.
People up front were friendly, no complaints.

Run! Do not load aluminum metal here. You've been warned. For whatever reason dirt and millions of tiny aluminum shavings are within the bundles of aluminum siding. They will not disclose this to you. You will only find out after you are unloaded. By that time your trailer is destroyed with millions of metal particles. Good luck finding anyone to washout your trailer. No Blue Beacon Truck Wash will touch it with a ten foot pole due to safety hazard of metal damaging eyes with high pressure wash.! Even if you are lucky enough to find someone after you have swept and blown it out, you will still have thousands of particles left behind after a washout. You probably will never be able to haul any food product again. Numerous complaints yet they do nothing to solve this major issue. I left a message for plant manager and calling corporate next. Calling better business bureau as well. This hazard was not disclosed prior to loading. May retain my lawyer to recoup any financial losses as well as the anguish and distress over the clean up, worrying about future load rejections, and income loss. They DESTROYED MY TRAILER WITH THESE MILLIONS OF TINY METAL SHAVINGS! RUN! RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I would rather deadhead 300 miles than take a load from here. It's not worth any amount per mile aside from if they would buy you a new trailer. Zero stars!

Worst recycling place ever if they had 0 srar I would give them that I sat I a line of cars that you couldn't turn around I n afor an hour it too 45 min before 1 car moved then iowa gives 5 cent can deposit and we turned in 40 cases of canes we had saved and we got 9.44cent and my girl forgot her ID at home not thinking they were just c and and they gave us apeice of paper said we had 7 days to come down and claim the 9.44 we saved those cans for half a year and wasted more time in the line then I make an hour I don't recommend this place to anyone
Guy goes hey, i'm going on lunch, someone will be with you. We'll I waited till he got off lunch. Then they scored my metal incorrectly. Said it had light iron in my aluminum. Liars! Go somewhere else yall
they helped me a lot showed me what is what you know as far as grade of metal I will go no where else the people there are great so to the people in the q.c.a if you're scrapping this is the place to be but that's my opinion
Went through small scale with non ferrous metals. Employees helpful with explaining about different types of material and how to sort. Lady's at the pay window always friendly, helpful and a smile.
Very easy to find, accessible, very clean for this type of business. Staff very friendly and helpful, answers questions, courteous. Very impressive, for this type of business. Floors swept & various containers grouped together. 10 stars.
