They changed half the branch numbers to route to member services, where you will wait on hold for an outsourced employee that will route you to a phone number that is no longer in service. They don't put the location on their offsite lots, and half the time they mislabel the equipment. Often we go to pickup offsite lots and find that pieces that were included in the sale are no longer there. They're no help on the yard. Half of our trucking services will no longer pickup from Copart because their lots are awful. Good luck getting a person on the phone that can actually answer any questions. 0 stars
Drive two hours to view a vehicle. Copart.com lists viewing hours as 8am to 5pm. Showed up at 11:20 and was told I couldn’t view the vehicle because they take lunch from 11 to 1. The vehicle sold at 12. I was not allowed to view the vehicle before it sold and wasted 4 hours of driving. I won’t be buying anything from Copart again.
Went to view the "but it now" vehicle, stepped inside to buy it from the mobile app. Paid by card inside, then they refused to release the car or refund my money and tried to say it was fraud... even tho it was my debit card?? Had to threaten to call police and sue to get anything done. Rip off of a company. Don't buy anything from here.
I have been waiting for 15 minutes to be escorted by an employee, even though I waited until lunchtime.They might want 30 minutes to use the bathroom.I wasted my time no one cares
Don’t buy from these people. They lost my title and it’s been almost 5 months and they won’t offer to do anything about it but make me wait. Horrible way to do business.
Constantly adding more fees. Schedule appointment and then you wait 45 mins to pick up the car. They will Sale you a clean title car and then DOT will not give you a clean title because they did not disclose the damage. Can’t even go into the yard to look at more than 3 cars with out being rushed. Raise member fees. Fee for everything you can think of. Next fee might be for opening their door.
Just bought my 4th vehicle over the years from Copart in Des Moines. Staff has been excellent to work with. I visited several times to look at vehicles, (make sure to bring lot #'s and location for escort) Escorts were always friendly and did their best getting me around the lot. Front desk staff was prompt and friendly. I opted for shipping this time and Copart driver was awesome and called in advance to make unloading smoother. This is a busy place with lots of people and cars coming and going but I found them to all be very knowledgeable and helpful. My only complaint with Copart is the fee's have risen dramatically in recent years. Overall, highly recommended. Note; if you buy cars sight un-seen I wouldn't complain too much. I always make sure to look at vehicles in person before bidding. Also, probably best to go look at vehicles from Wednesday on. I'm sure Monday and Tuesday are heavy loading days. I never waited more than 10 minutes for an escort on the each of the Wednesday's I stopped in.
Has a complicated setup procedure they want you to get lost in, to place a $50 bid I need to hire someone else and pay them $400. This is a big scam and a joke
They switched to charging everyone for titles and everyone wants their titles sent out, because why not if you’re getting charged anyways. Now they’re swarmed with titles to send out and it’s taking weeks to receive anything.
please dont you ever buy a any vehicle from this thief staff i tell you what they do i just buy a truck there with a front end damage according to them and at the end the engine was lockup and they knew about it but they dont put the info in the lot description that way they can sell it quick and you wonder how i know that they know about the issue very easy i found a paper from a ford dealer in the glove compartment stated that the engine is lock and need replace at this yard they broke something in the car easy to fix to cover a big issue and they only put the easy to fix issues in order to steal your money you have been warned
Basically helping people commit identity Fraud…. receiving texting messages, E mails ect saying I have an account in Des Moines iowa in my name. Lies I never been here. I have enough info to be reporting this business right along with the criminals. Showing another person identification and giving their info to buy and put illegal cars in their name is Illegal. And y’all helped accepting other people information for a check.
I would like to share an amazing story about 2 employees at this Copart in Des moines. Doug Phillipsand Mark Dutcher. I have been buying cars and trucks all over the country for 15 years now and normally when you buy a vehicle from an auction they will not help you at all...This was not the case with Doug and Mark. I flew in from Salt Lake to pick up a 26ft box truck. I bought it as a run and drive. Well, when I got there, it didn't. I had zero power which is understandable given that these vehicles sit for as long as they do. Being in the business as long as I had been, I brought 2 new batteries with me. I swapped the batteries out and I still didn't have any power. Doug came over to help me and he spent quite a bit of time diagnosing the problem. Neither of us could figure it out so I made the worst decision of my life by call "Absolute Repair". They should have called their business "Absolutely Incompetent". This kid showed up and knew less than I do about trucks. After he wasted a couple hours Doug told me "I am going to call Mark". Mark also worked at Copart and when he showed up it I knew within 3 minutes that he could fix anything. Within 5 minutes he knew what the problem was and not long after I was on my way driving off in my truck back to Salt Lake without incident. The fact that these 2 stellar individuals would work that hard to make sure I was on the road was something I have never experienced. Not only will I go out of my way to purchase vehicles from this copart, the next time (and everytime) I am there I will buy there lunch! I hope Copart realizes what a special team they have in Doug and Mark. I wish I lived in Iowa so I could try and get them to work at my company! You just don't find service and integrity like these guys. I can't thank them enough! I wish there was more I could do to highlight what these 2 guys have done for me. It restores my faith in humanity dealing with good guys like Mark and Doug.
The regional location is worth it.. but I will tell you their main business team... especially the Licensing department has no clue how to work with or treat decade old customers. I have been on the phone with these folks since December trying to make sure we have all the paperwork they need... and I have been specifically walked through the forms step by step doing exactly what their team instructs me to do.... ONLY TO HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER. We have been getting cars with COPART for years and years and years.... and we have spent THOUSANDS..... and it is like we are just new or forgotten customers... Sad shame...... I am on hold even with them right now.... no consistency, no follow through, and a lot of repeat work just to be let down again and again.
Now they don’t want you to even see the vehicle you are paying a exorbitant auction fee for. Copart already had a history as a shady company, I personally suffered this after I bought a “run and drive” vehicle that had a thrown rod from the engine being ran with water in the intake. So I learned my lesson, inspect your vehicle. Now you can’t even barely inspect the vehicles you may be interested in. They have “escort” hours that they can’t even honor due to short staff and limits on how many or how long you can look at a vehicle. This industry really needs a new player.
After an accident, my insurance company took my vehicle to Copart to have it evaluated. When I went to Copart to pick up my vehicle after going through insurance the damages were exasperated by the rough handling of my car-the bumper while previously cracked was entirely torn off my vehicle- The whole process of getting my vehicle back was difficult too, it took 15 minutes of arguing to get them to turn over the license plates to the car I own. As well, when I got my car back, stuff from my glove box and middle compartment was missing, my entire keychain, including a tile tracker and other keys, was gone, and I was told that there was no way to get these things back. I am just really frustrated with the extra damages they caused to my vehicle as well as them removing my belongings when they never once owned the car, and the overall difficulty with working with them.
New rule corporate made where you have to wait over a hour to be able to see 5 vehicles for only 20 minutes that is ridiculous. Sounds like one of there scams so people can't fully inspect the vehicles.
The place is pretty organized but you will receive no help from the employees.
We asked a few questions since we had a four hour drive to get there and they told us didn't know and would not go look... Asked to use the bathroom was told there was a Porta potty out side... So full and no paper work!
I have had good experiences here. It's much smaller than some lots so it's not as confusing to retrieve a car. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is my regular shipper says he won't pick up cars there because it's too cumbersome. That was the best shipper I had and now I have no one from Des Moines at a reasonable rate. Anything you can do about that?
Horrible member services, it’s like they hid the general manager in a closet behind the office. After I bought a totalled out 2007 Toyota Prius with no idea the catalytic converters were completely removed by Copart for their own profit.. what a shame this location is to Copart as a whole company.. never buying at this location. Please stay away before you buy one of their catless cars.
Honestly if you are not a mechanic and haven’t seen the car before buying do not buy from them these are crooks wanting to make quick money at the expense of the customers, car said dents and scratches, run and drive, looked good on picture, come to find out, it only drove for one block before dying, also they charged over $500 in fees for the car, found out the car was in an accident and they replaced the bumper, it cost me three times what the car is worth to fix it and it still needs fixing, please save your money and buy a new car. This company should be shut down.
This Copart is playing fraudulent games. After winning a lot, few hours later they cancel it and relist it. Thats just wasting time. Why not putting a reserve at bidding?
Dishonest advertising they said “minor dents & scratches” but when I arrived after drive 1,000 miles and paid for the car when I seen the car the cab on both sides under door was rusted out, and I showed proof from there site glossary on “minor dents& scratches “ and they kept beating around the bush telling me that they can’t refund me! Mind you that it was there fault for putting invalid info on car details
This company advertises dishonestly I bought a car in Newburgh lot I would not have consisted because of flood damage ,but they noted Run and Drive !!!!
This was a Lie After receiving the car 900 miles away I /My Tech found the intake was full of frozen flood water I have pictures The Starter was frozen solid Yes I received in January So ever started, never put in gear running a big lie
And in the few days it took to get a transport ,they ran a loader in to the front so I need a hood and a bumper too
I was told tough No help It's my fault for trusting ,and never mind the storage I had to pay for their people to wreck my car while waiting THEY will not help
So Please file with the BBB /Every site you can write reviews /Don't take no for an answer File complaints with your state's attorney general
Trust me someone will take notice They should be barred from dishonest statements about vehicles.And destroying vehicles in their care

Two different times I bought here, The first was a motorhome that ran and drive, went to pick it up and there was no keys and it was too far to tell and they offered me a refund so thumbs up on that one. The second car was he Ford Fusion and it was missing the front grill that showed in the pictures when I bought it. So somebody had took in the grill out of it. The grill is like $500, and I cannot find a used one. So when I asked about it they said the only thing they could do is return the car. The problem is I live in Davenport Iowa and it's like A 3 hour drive. I'll just keep the car and eat the $500 on top of everything else that needs fixed. Knowing it needed a grill on top of everything else wrong with it I would not about the car. I probably won't be returning. Just too many issues to deal with this place for me so far away.
Really good people there, but their equipment broke my grill and they could only offer to refund me and take the truck back. But my whole day and the trip would have been wasted.
