Our family of five just happened to be next door searching for lunch when we stepped outside and caught the most amazing smell coming from Junkyard. Our noses made the decision for us and our stomachs were very thankful ?
We grabbed a booth in the cool, on theme space, exactly what you would expect from the name. It was around 1pm and fairly quiet when we arrived, but the dining room quickly filled up shortly after.
Our waitress was prompt and attentive from the start. She brought menus right away, took our drink order, and totally won our kids over by offering to make Shirley Temples even though they were not on the menu. She even asked what type of cup we preferred for our seven year old to help avoid spills, which was such a thoughtful touch.
Everything was made to order and came out quickly, hot, and fresh. The mac and cheese bites were a delicious appetizer. My husband loved his Philly cheesesteak, it looked as good as it smelled. Our oldest ordered pizza from the kids menu. He is extremely picky and never eats the crust, but this time he did not leave a single crumb. Our three year old was really only there for the ice cream that came with his kids meal. ?
I did not have much time to browse the menu with little ones in tow, so I ordered the Wrecker after spotting onion rings, bacon, and queso in the description and wow. It was the biggest burger I have ever seen and completely satisfying. The sweet potato fries were just as good.
Our kids were raving with compliments like “Can we stay here all day?”, “Can we come here for my bday dinner?” And my favorite comment: “You know what, this place really feels like America!” ??
We will definitely be back!
Great small town bar vibe and food! Our server/bartender was very friendly. Our wings and tater tots came out quickly. Everything was hot, the wings were smothered in sauce, and tots were crispy & well seasoned. The other patrons were locals and having fun with the bartender, playing pull tabs.
service was poor we waited for over 50 minute's while people that came in after us were served their food. We were given excuses why our food wasn't out. they finally said 5 more minuets and we waited almost 15 before just leaving with out our food. they did charge us full price for our sodas when we said we were leaving. :(
Had the Frnch Dip with fries and parmesan chicken with tots. French dip was one of the best I've had. Toasted hoagie thinly sliced steak with perfectly melted cheese. The au jus was thicker than normal with an amazing flavor. So many items I want to try but the French dip was so good I'd eat it every visit. Hubby's chicken sandwich was also on a toasted bun. He enjoyed it. We both agreed the tots had an odd taste. Love the junk yard theme. Odd that the waitress brought our drinks and asked if we wanted appetizers and walked away when we declined. We were ready to order but she didn't ask and left before we could say anything. She also didn't explain the tables with food but did say there was no pizza today. This was my first time here, but hubby's third. He suggested we stop on our way back from Sioux City. Glad we did. Good food for a fair price.
Delicious food. I had a French Dip that was great. My husband and his sister and brother-in-law had the all you can eat chicken. We all loved our food. Not too expensive. Ready in a hurry.
This place is a hidden little gem in the outskirts of Hinton, but don't let that fool you they have a pretty sizeable menu including pizza. I have not tried everything but from Fried chicken to their Brisket sandwich you really can't go wrong and the price is more than affordable, give them a try you won't be disappointed!
Update, went there again tonight for my Bday party and again I can say the food and service was excellent!

The Wrecker cheeseburger is massive and recommend ordering the buffalo chips. Friendly service but slow as we had to wait a while our food and drink refills otherwise it was a great experience.
I have been making a weekly stop here on Tuesdays and am ordering something different every time. The food has been impressively flavored and cooked no matter what I order: burger, nachos, french dip, etc. It has been very busy a couple of those weeks. Last night was one of those nights. It was taking a considerable amount of time to get our order and I had an errand to run at a certain time. I asked the waitress if I could change my order to a "to go" order and asked if I could come pick it up after my errand. The waitress was very happy to accommodate. I even added more food to the order. Food was getting boxed when I showed back up. Everything was great. Good food. Good staff. Definitely recommend.
Beer is ice cold. Food is absolutely outstanding!! Had a Bacon cheese burger with waffle fries. Wow. Totally awesome place. Highly recommend. Staff super friendly.
This place was packed for a Thursday evening and the waitresses handle it like a boss! Our food came out correct, hot and exactly how we wanted it. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back again!
Cody, (bartender) was awesome. First time we've stopped by. All staff were friendly and worked so well together. Food and drinks were great. Food, omg so much more than expected. ?
Under staffed. we went there last night. They had two women working the whole place, they were running crazy and it was packed. We ordered the fish buffet went through the salad bar it was good got two pieces of fish and then waited 30 minutes for more to come out of kitchen. Food is good just was understaffed.
Food is great! Service was a little slow as they were full, but to no fault of the wait staff. They just needed another person. The service suffered due to only having two young waitresses. But will eat there again.
We didn't go here for several years due to the waitress arguing with us about overcooking chicken & a previous visit where they forgot to enter our order in. Waited over an hour til they realized it. So we heard new ownership & we went back to try it again. Same waitress worked there same greasy bar menu same overcooked food. Drinks were good though ?didn't bother to mention it as we learned previously it would just be argued. Better chicken elsewhere.
We waited an hour for our food. Tables around us got served before we even got our appetizer. We were there for an hour and 45 minutes. Manager tried to back up her staff by saying the kitchen was busy as she sat by the bar talking to a guy most of the time we were there.
Love this place. Great place for a meeting and to hang with family. Sunday buffet I'd belong compare. The beer is always cold and it is a great location to ride the Hatley from Sioux City and grab dinner and a beer along the way.
Fun place! Good food, lotsa choices, generous portions. Had the steak tips with sour cream and chives fries, tasty. Pizza looked good, too. Family friendly, all ages. Patio bar out back. Definitely recommend.
A hidden gem in the small town of Hinton, It's just a quick trip up 75, well worth it. Food is good, prices are reasonable and the beer is cold. You won't be disappointed.
We've been here two times, both during the day on a Saturday and both times we've received excellent service and really quite good food for a pub. The pizzas are actually pretty tasty and the prices are more than affordable. I bet I drove past this place hundreds of times on the highway thinking I should check it out before I finally did. I can now say that I wished I had stopped in sooner - give it a try!
I've lived in the Sioux City area for over two years now and this restaurant/bar is nicer than any other. The staff is friendly. The food is great. You have to try the sour cream and chives fries!!! Very nice on the inside. Clean. Let me emphasize this: CLEAN. Clear dining area versus bar area. Unique/nice decor. Touch tunes jukebox. Large TVs in the bar area. Not too loud. Very nice atmosphere.
We have eaten at this establishment quite a few times. Spent good hard earned money there. Having said this my wife and I ate there tonight and my chicken breast and leg were so over cooked that the meat was all burned out of it . So dry I had to drink water with the 2 bites I attempted to eat. After sitting there waiting for the waitress to even look our way let alone come over to ask us how our meal was for at least a half hour she comes over with our bill. I tell her my issues with the meal... then receive a disgusted look as she walks off. Gone for 5 or 6 mins she comes back to explain how they cook it and how they destroyed my chicken at which point I told her look the meal is inedible and your not telling me you are going to remake it or discount it or take it off the bill. At which point I say we will just pay the bill and be sure to tell everyone we know about our experience at the junkyard in Hinton iowa to which her response is taking the lords name in vain... grabbing the check and stomping off. 10 mins later she walks over ...slams the bill on the table and spouts off that they took five bucks off the meal and walks off. We paid it with her well earned tip of nothing and a vow to never return.... thanks for.ruining my evening blondie!!!
