My husband has been a long-time customer of Economy Auto, which makes this experience especially disappointing. We brought in a vehicle we are preparing for our teenage daughter. The car was making a grinding noise and vibrating when turning right, even at low speeds. Over the course of three separate visits and nearly $4,000 in repairs, the original issue was never resolved. We were told that nothing visible appeared to be wrong, that there were no safety concerns, and that the issue could only be reproduced when driving over 50 mph or “driving poorly.” However, after picking up the vehicle and driving it home at or below the speed limit, the problem reproduced immediately during normal right-hand turns, including from a complete stop. Given the continued issue, we sought a second opinion. Another repair shop diagnosed the problem within 24 hours and fully resolved it. They were able to reproduce the issue immediately while turning out of their parking lot. The cause was a faulty left CV joint, which had visible play and required replacement. We were surprised this was not identified during the previous inspections, especially considering the number of other components that had already been replaced. A failing CV joint is a safety concern. If left undiagnosed and un-repaired, it can lead to further mechanical failure and potential loss of control while driving. Had we accepted the recommendation that nothing was wrong and continued operating the vehicle without further evaluation, this issue could have progressed into a much more serious safety risk. Given that this vehicle is intended for our teenage daughter, properly identifying and addressing any safety-related concerns is important. I returned to Economy Auto to discuss the situation and requested consideration on how he could make this right. To me a partial refund of labor, since the original issue had not been diagnosed or repaired after multiple visits seemed fair. I was informed that refunds are not offered. While I understand that policies exist, when a vehicle is misdiagnosed multiple times and the initial concern remains unresolved after significant expense, some accountability would have been appreciated. After years of loyalty to this shop, this experience has unfortunately caused us to lose confidence in their diagnostic process. We are very disappointed and will be taking our business elsewhere moving forward.

Gary and the team at Economy are the best! They are kind and honest people, and always do right by us. This is the only place we trust with our cars, they’ve kept them running beautifully for years! 10/10 would recommend Economy for all your repair needs

Yesterday I took my 2017 dodge challenger to this shop had an oil leak and a problem with the thermostat the next day I get a call right after work my car was ready these guys worked so quick and got the job done this auto repair shop is the best a good 5 stars for them.

So far so good. I've been going to them quite a bit over the years for my used chevy. Prices have been reasonable and the car is still running well. I will often times go there for a second opinion if another place is saying I need to get a lot of expensive work done or something like that and they've so far been able to fix what it ever needed be done for significantly less cost. Thank you.

I've been going here for years. They are so friendly and do great work and can usually get you on the schedule quickly! They'll give you an estimate so there are no surprises on cost and I feel their prices are reasonable. If you have multiple problems they'll let you know what needs done now and what can wait awhile longer. I have Total trust in economy auto and plan to keep going here. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

such friendly staff! came in with a minor issue and they fixed it so fast i was in and out in 15 minutes! such a friendly and clean waiting area too. i was disappointed not to find out the wifi password, but i didn't end up needing it since i was waiting for such a short time.

Very very disappointed! We have been a customer for quite a few years and given Economy Auto quite a bit of our business from our vehicles to my daughters vehicles. Today I called to explain that we were not called back about a situation that occurred a few weeks ago. I told the gentleman that we have not been called back and he immediately became rude. I asked him why he was being so rude when I was disappointed in how things were being handled. He told me that they called multiple times and it went to voicemail. My daughter gave my number as an alternate and I was NEVER called back. I asked if there was a manager to speak to and Roger told me he is the Owner! He ended up hanging up on me! Very unprofessional! Told me he records his calls when I told him I would be letting our friends and family know how we were treated. I told him yes please I would love for them to hear how our original conversation went! He clearly doesn’t handle criticism at all! I called back after he hung up on me and told him I would be reaching out to the other owner. I have never been treated so poorly or talked to like he did to me since we have been going to this shop. Gary the other owner was always very nice and handled everything and everything professsionally! We will not be returning to this shop. I will be calling to speak to Gary to let him know what happened and in the meantime we will be looking for a new shop to take our vehicles to.

Gave me an estimate for work to be done at $6,000 + tax.... told me car would be done the next Friday, 10 days later which I understood for all the work to be done.... didn't receive one call from them explaining any circumstances or delays. I had to stop in multiple times to check on my cars status but only got the runaround from the employees and owner. When I finally got a call to pick up my car two Friday's later, 17 days after they took my car I was told at 9:15am that I only had till 11am to come get my car before they close for the weekend! When I went to pay they had added $850.00 worth of more stuff to my total without ever calling to explain or get approval from me.... I would NEVER use this place again or recommend it to anyone else! Absolutely shady and horrible place to deal with... I also had to top off my antifreeze and brake fluid even though they worked on both of those systems.....

My daughter-in-law and I were stranded nearly two hours from home with a seized pulley and broken serpentine belt. You not only offered to fix it on a Saturday while your shop was closed, but you also did it free of charge. We didn't catch your name, but your generosity and kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you for restoring our faith in humanity.

I want to thank the owner of the shop for assisting my significant other out with her car troubles. I was two hours away and this gentleman out of kindness of his heart has helped out a stranger that was in need of some help. Jess was stranded on the side of the road once her serpentine belt broke along with a seized pulley on Saturday afternoon; Free of charge! Thank you sir!

Absolutely amazing shop and I will not take my car anywhere else. They put brand new tires on my suburban literally a day within calling for them and they also lifted my suburban and they are just amazing people to work with. I recommend them 1000%!!!

We wouldn't take our vehicles anywhere else! They have done cosmetic installations, small repairs and large repairs for our family's vehicles. They have also looked over cars we were looking to buy. I appreciate their prompt, open and honest communication. I also greatly appreciate that Rogers takes the time to listen to our opinions and concerns. I would recommend Economy to anyone who needs an honest hometown shop.

I Bought my daughter a jeep and I live in Chicago and she lives there . I called different shops and this shop was the only one that broke everything down to me and I just felt comfortable. I lucked up and found a gem in the auto shop. They are my go to for car problems!!

Never write reviews but after today it had to be done. Never going back. I have had my car fixed once previously with Economy Auto Repair and I had no problems with them until just right now. I believed I was serviced by a man named Greg, super nice. However! I went in earlier this week to fix my Chevy Cruze 2014 Catalytic Converter and was quoted around $890 to get it fixed. (I confirmed this price twice).When I went to go book my appointments via phone a couple of days later (today) I was told that I was quoted wrongly for it and that the job was going to be over $1500 to fix. Shocked with how they can misquote someone so extensively but understanding that mistakes can be made… I went to go and get advice from family members about this and discussed what would be the best next step. With some unanswered questions I still had in terms of the misquotation, what accidental part I was previously quoted for and what part I currently needed to get my car fixed, I called back to get a better understanding and a decent breakdown of the cost, since to me $1500 is a lot of money. As soon as the phone got picked up and I mentioned if it was possible to get a better understanding of the situation I was in, I was met with nothing but complete hostility and a very egoistic persona. One of the questions was to figure out what part I was quoted for previously and he turned around and said “that’s none of your concern” .. turns out it was a $300 pipe, which I don’t believe ?? To make matter even worse it was the owner who was conversing with me! It seemed he was very frustrated with how I was misquoted (ironic) and did not care to answer some of my questions about the parts needed to bought and used to eventually fix my car when I’m the one that’s eventually going to pay for it! With someone who is spending a large sum of money to fix their car you would expect some sort of decent customer service with helping to fully understand what you are paying for, especially when there are some car repair store out they’re that will overcharge you simply because you don’t know any better. The owner, whatever his name is I believe it’s Rodger as I’ve seen other people in these reviews complain about him, obviously did not care about the fact that not only was I misquoted but does not care for his customers and to round it off he then turned around and said “I would pass off on fixing your car anyway”. To which I said “have a good day”. Yes, disgusting. Obviously Economy Auto Repair is a place that lacks patience, hiring inadequate staff, lacks customer etiquette and had an owner who knows very little about how to treat an existing costumer with some manners. I will be more than happy to take my business else where after receiving the treatment I just got today. And to save yourself being misquoted, overly charged and treated like crap I believe you should too.

Gary, Craig and staff have been doing consistiently good work for us for 15 years, from our personal vehicles to my former companies trucks. They always approach any repair with the consumer in mind. I do a lot of my own service but when expertise is needed there is only one number I need to remember.

I've had several repairs done there recently and have been impressed with the quality of work, the repairs were on-time, the price reasonable, and they always select good quality (similar to original) parts. Economy's location is convenient, too. I'd give them 6 stars if possible.

I am happy for the people who had their cars repaired within a few hours of inquiring. We had a timing chain repair it took 3 weeks and $1500. It was leaking oil we took it back, they said a power steering pump was leaking, $321 dollars , (they replaced it twice)was replaced .4 weeks later checked to see what was happening with our car, they demanded we leave the premises and never return. Small claims court , For sure!! They needed an excuse for their bad behave so,they fabricated one. Greg is the guy you will most likely deal with while your car is being serviced, very nice guy, beware of Roger's he is a hothead, owner and mechanic.

My car is very old and I hate taking it to the shop because every time I go there are about a million things wrong. As a woman who knows nothing about cars I get worried I’m going to be over charged. The people working here made me very comfortable and took me into the shop to actually see what was wrong with my car. I got one of the things fixed and decided to come back to fix the others. They gave me a quote for how much it would cost to fix the others. My car started acting worse, I called and they got me in the next day and stayed true to the estimate. Something else ended up needing to be replaced and they fixed it free of charge and even brought my keys to me at work! I work right next door but they went out of their way to give me my car before close! I’m so grateful for their customer service. I will never bring my car anywhere else. They made me feel so comfortable. Thank you to all the workers!

Brian and Gary helped us when our RV would not start. We were traveling from Colorado and needed emergency help. They were awesome to diagnose the problem and get us on the road. We so appreciated the care they provided to our vehicle and family. Truly an excellent business!

I recommend 100% this place, I recently went because I am going on a very long trip with my car and they are the only ones (and I know many mechanics and places) I really trust. They have well maintained my VW Jetta and I know, many mechanics are not comfortable fixing VW. They have been very accommodating with service dates too; when I had an emergency, they try the best to help me right away. About price, I think is in the right price, very honest with what they do and they do not tell lies about your car needing more stuff than the real thing. At least, this has been my experience with them so far.

Gary and team was great to work with...very honest, professional and helped resolve an issue with the starter on my Traverse that the dealership did not fix correctly. My Traverse starts right up amazingly now! Appreciate the direct feedback through multiple phone calls as they narrowed down the problem. They also went the extra mile to expedite repairs so I could get my vehicle back on the road quickly and make it to my grandmothers funeral. I also appreciated the practical advice on simple cost effective things that can be done to extend the life of key engine components on my vehicle. Highly recommend!

The entire crew at Economy Auto Repair was friendly and professional. They were able to get me in and out quick (and it was no simple repair!) and the final charge was more than fair and exactly as quoted. These guys are proper professionals and I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in need of a car repair.

I would definitely recommend economy auto. Gary and Brian are very professional and easy to work with. They did a complete engine replacement and a new rack and pinion for me. All communication was very clear and honest throughout the whole process, and my car literally ran like new when I got it back.

I just had my AC system repaired with Economy Auto Repair a few days ago. Very satisfied with the turnaround time and fair pricing. A big shout-out to Gary for being very helpful and informative about the troubleshooting process! With that transparency, I feel the extra effort was put into to identify the exact problem to make sure I wasn't paying for repairs/replacement that I didn't need. Will definitely do business here again.

We have been doing business with Economy Auto for over 7 years. I appreciate the quality of work and the owners' high level of integrity. They will tell you what is wrong and if the value of the car is worth the value of the repair. If they find issues of concern other than what you brought it in for, they will bring it to your attention without the high pressure sales. They prioritize: what needs to be fixed now, what can wait, and what can be disregarded. Honesty, Value, Excellent Customer Service, Locally Owned and Operated. Who doesn't want an honest mechanic!!!

I haven't had to have my car repaired in years (thankfully), but this morning my car started having an issue starting. I called around 5-6 places in Cedar Rapids/Marion for a quote/time frame to get my car in. Economy Auto Repair was the only place that not only didn't want to charge me a huge fee for an estimate, but could also get me in right away. I called at noon, had my car in at 2, and picked it up repaired by 5. I also didn't get a laundry list of expensive "maintenance" that needed to be done like I am given every time I get an oil change. VERY impressed, and I will definitely recommend!!

I recently had a fuel pump repair at Economy Auto, they fixed my Chevy for half of what it would have cost elsewhere. Mechanic was very clear and thorough in explaining my options and what was wrong with my vehicle. In addition, they got the job done in 2 days. Very pleased. Would recommend.

Economy Auto Repair is truly your discount option. The quality is as good as the dealer with a price that's far less. I appreciated the time they took to explain the problem and what they were doing about it. They let me know about other issues they saw, but didn't push hard on those. Felt like I was getting just the repairs that were necessary.
