Extremely unreliable. Missed picking up our recycling 3 times in 5 weeks. When we tried to address the problem with the company, they were cavalier and rude.
Lake Area has consistently managed our trash for many decades now and we couldn't be more pleased. They're on time, neat and do so in any weather. Quite pleased!
I have had this trash service for over a year now without any major issues. I had some big items picked up a few months ago, and then had some extra trash picked up this month. Both times they quoted me a price over the phone and then charged me a lot more on my bill than what was quoted. I didnt bother with it the first time, I just paid it and moved on, but this time I called to ask why I was charged more than I thought I would be charged. They owner told me that I was lying about being quoted amounts over the phone, and that they will no longer pick up any extra from me because I was questioning the charge. I asked why he was treating me like that. He proceeded to be very nasty to me on the phone and told me that he would just cancel my trash service and he doesnt care. Please do not use this service, there are so much better ones out there that will treat you professionally
I have used Lake Area for garbage for over 5 years now at two different homes, and I have nothing but good things to say. The men on my current route are amazing! They are friendly, helpful, and always go above and beyond. Today it was super windy and instead of leaving my cans by the road, they took a few extra steps and set them next to my garage so they wouldn't blow away. I always have great interactions when I call in too.
Horrible and very unprofessional I had a payment due at my residence and it was trash still in my bin and lake area decided to pick the trash can up and throw al the trash on my lawn not sure if they noticed I had new service and did this but very very very unprofessional
Can’t say good enough things about them, they’ve never missed a pickup, and all of the staff are super nice! They definitely go above & beyond for their customers!
Living in Springfield my Trash guys were everything amazing. I had no complaints left them tips many times to just show gratitude for their GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Moving to Riverton has been by far the worst I have never had to call so much only to not be heard or staff acting as if I’m the problem. Sadly I thought I truly had the best service. To be treated unvalued as a supporting customer my trash was left on the curb this past Friday but all my neighbors bags was picked up is insane to me. I have called over and over to resolve any issue that goes nowhere besides my trash not being picked up. My bill is paid for 3months really don’t understand the REAL ISSUE ! WOULD HATE TO BELIEVE I AM BEING RACIALLY PROFILED ! This is exhausting.
It dependable at all. I use them out of Pawnee and since March (June now) they have missed 5 trash pick ups. When you call they give you excuses, today’s excuse was at 10:30 am, they said ‘oh it’s still the pick up day they still have time to swing by.’ It’s now 2:18 pm and my trash is still full next to the road. I’ve been given excuses that they pick up early, so now I leave the trash out around 11 pm the night before, still don’t pick it up. When you ask for the manager they never call back. Lake Area is an amazing waste disposal service. They are easy to contact and pleasant to work with. They always pick up up our trash and recycling in a timely manner. Using their website, they make it easy to keep up with holidays and changes. We moved here from out of state where getting our trash picked up was a crap shoot. For the past 6 years we have been most pleased with Lake Area.
Had this company for months til a year, I guess we have new drivers and they just rude all o either board. They didn’t get all the trash yesterday and when my husband was trying speak with them they just road off. Yes they cheapest in town but the new drivers for my area is just plan out rude.
Drivers got out of their truck and assaulted me at a stop sign because I wasn't going faster than the speed limit. They proceeded to overtake my vehicle and threw a projectile through my vehicle window forcing me off the road at high speed. Psychos.
Disappointed with them. Switched because they’re cheaper than WM, but they always throw my trash cans and recycling bins. I’ve had to replace trash cans 3 times now because they throw the cans and break them. They’ve broken the lids to my recycling bins too. Half the time the trash cans have been thrown into my driveway so I have to leave my car in the street while I move them before I can pull in.
We have used Lake Area for 8 years and have never been disappointed. They are always kind, respectful, always put our trash cans upright and with the lids on, and we always enjoy their Christmas cards.
I switched from WM right before they sold and went with Lake area. Omg I should have done this years ago.. The guy working the Grandview area are so thoughtful and man do they hustle!! Best workers I have seen in awhile..
These guys have been awesome. We have used their dumpster service during moves & have been a regular customer as have our children. They are kind, prompt & courteous plus they are locally owned. We would never use anyone else!
Always had great service. Been a customer for 4-5 years. The guys always pick anything extra up i have, if wind blows somthing over they pick up and even had a time or 2 forgot to put my can out and theyve came up and got my bin. Had a few issues with recycling but trash service is 5stars.
Driver for recycling was rude, repeatedly used the F bomb, called me every name in the book and refused to take my recycle items. Honestly, I felt threatened by this guy. I picked up my stuff, took it back in the garage and shut the door. I felt extremely threatened. I called the company and was told the manager was gone for the day, so he called me this morning. Jim Graham was his name and he didn't even have the correct driver, repeated back a pack of lies that the driver supposedly said about me (clearly to cover his behind ) even though it was obviously not the same driver - ugh. Long story short, I was a customer for 43+ years and Mr. Graham told me that all my services were being discontinued immediately. With this company, if you dare to complain about anything, you are history. Good riddance! I found another company immediately with better pricing and they provide the pick up containers at no cost.
5 year update: increasing to 4 stars. I haven’t had any issues since and they always take my extra garbage, cardboard, etc. without charging me extra. ————————— I’m so extremely sick of this company. We’ve been with them for 7 months now. Our very first pickup they broke our brand new trash can and it has had a hole in the side ever since.
They’ve failed to pick up our recycling 3 times now. Every time we call, they make an excuse that they had a substitute driver, so they must have missed us...that’s it. No apology, no attempt to make it right.
They are the only recycling company I have ever heard of that makes us sort our recycling, so we are required to have different tubs for everything. They allowed us to pick up a 2nd tub, but said no one is allowed to have 3, so we went to the store and bought our own tub to put our glass recycling in. They continue to take our tub over and over again. I don’t know what to do. I buy a new tub...they take it.
Their office hours are also ridiculous (8-4pm). If you work normal job hours, there is no chance you can drop off boxes or other recycling at their recycling center. One day I even decided to skip lunch in order to drop off my recycling. Come to find out they shut the gates during their lunch hour. I tried to call and there isn’t anyone there to pick up the phone. If you are a company that serves the public, you need to accommodate for the public.
2 stars because they are the cheapest in town, but that honestly might be generous.
I have had this company going 4 yrs now. And I have had the same trash can with no problem. It’s not a cheap one. Wheels, snap flip top lid and handles as I’m the only one to take out the trash.. the only problem I have is this last year I have noticed a lack of care that we provide our own trash cans and the guys just toss it over the back of the truck and swing it back to the ground. Sometimes it’s not where I put it and blocks the drive. Now the bottom of my can has two busted holes in it and I have to replace it. But with the carelessness of the guys it’s no wander people buy cheep one. But it’s hard for me to get the cab to the curb with out wheels. My neibor has to have her kids come over and take her trash to the curb for her she in a wheel chair and can’t do it on her own. I have back issues.. sometime I want to take the bags out and leave on curb the morning of.
Lake Area has been great to work with for our business container needs. They are extremely responsive, friendly, and competitively priced. The service has been such an improvement over our previous disposal company. I highly recommend Lake Area for any business needs. I do wish they would have an upgrade option for a container that is more secure than just a lock and chains, but the customer service and response to all of our needs has surpassed my expectations.
I moved to Springfield and wanted to do business with a locally owned business. I had them for nine years at my business and never had issues. Residential is a whole other ball game. You have to buy your own container but it can only be 34 gallons. I can only fit 2 13-gal bags in said container. I have to buy 1-2 stickers a week at $2/ea to stick on my extra bags because I average 3-4 bags per week. That's $2-$4 extra a week. The very first time they picked up, they threw my container down and broke the lid. So, it's been used once and now the lid won't close. I can't get them to pick up recycling. Every week it's some excuse about not being sorted correctly. Had to buy my own tubs for that as well. First I didn't have enough stickers on tubs. Needs to be on all 4 sides. Then, I sorted according to brochure provided. Lady tells me just leave chip board loose and can put the rest, all but glass, on top. So, I sorted that way. They said chip board has to be separate from aluminum and plastic. They want those in paper bags that I have to go get at Harvest market because I don't have those laying around. Tried putting chipboard in bag with cans and bottles on top. Nope. Won't pick it up that way either. If I put the chipboard and mail in loose it flies all over the neighborhood. I've spent more time picking the stuff up out of my half block radius than I have sorting it. And, it's the biggest hassle. They won't take cardboard. That's 95% of recycling. I'm stuck with them now through March because they won't offer refunds. I've called in the afternoon and it states their out to lunch. Left inquiries on their website 3 times to get a call back. No call back. Finally called at 8 am and the lady says "it's too early for this". So, evidently you can't call with complaints in the morning because it's too early. Maybe they should change their hours?? Went to office to cancel and verify that my ACH is stopped. One person on phone is complaining and she's then getting all snippy with him. Another person is on the other line cancelling. I would not recommend them unfortunately unless you want to pay for a service that is never provided. Horrible customer service and it's obvious they don't want to offer recycling. They make it impossible to do that. I drop mine off in person every week and hope that I can get trash picked up. I've been skipped twice and had to take trash to my other house with other service. Run from this if you want to remain sane.
I would give them 100 STARS. I've done business with them for 7 years the office staff is friendly, helpful and provides excellent customer service. My garbage men are so kind, punctual and accommodate ANY reasonable request. I am disabled and they go out of their way to pick up my trash at the top of my driveway as a courtesy to me. If they did not do this, putting out my trash would be such a difficult struggle. I am most GRATEFUL.
I have had Lake Area for more than 20 years, first in Springfield then when we moved to Athens 8 years ago. I have always had a good experience with this company, their employees have always treated us well and done a good job, their prices are fair. I highly recommend them.
My very dear friend had used Lake area for many years. When she passed and I had to clear out her home, their entire staff was extremely helpful, prompt and courteous. . They were the most cost efficient anywhere in town, or around and upfront about their charges. They made an impossible task, doable. Thank you so much. And a special shout out to Betty! Who worked very closely with me through this process and had the most friendly voice, you could hear her smile through the phone. Very much appreciated! I will absolutely use their services in the future and recommend them to anyone who asks.
Just a shoutout to Lake Area. They have always provided me with excellent service. They don’t have the standard cans that are picked up by a machine so if you have a little extra, they take it. Their dumpster ordering and removal is great. $5/day extra vs $10. I’ve moved or had rentals and their customer service is always great with transition. I’ve been working with Denise for the new duplex and she said we understand your first week might have extra and that’s ok. They are just great to work with. If you don’t like your trash service I recommend Lake Area Disposal!
My family has used Lake Area Disposal for years. My experience has always been very good. I’ve gotten to know the employees personally and all very pleasant and go the extra mile. Ralph & Simon have collected my garbage for a long time and are terrific! The recycling employees Diana & Marshall are very thoughtful and pleasant. I appreciate the people so much and recommend them…
I don't know why there have been negative reviews lately... We've never had an issue! Sure, the recycle center hours are semi inconvenient but it is what it is.
Everyone I've spoken with has always been polite and professional. I've called to ask if I missed a pick up and while on the phone, they radioed the driver and let me know exactly where they were. We've requested a couple roll off dumpsters at numerous homes and they've helped us decide what size we'd need and never tried to sell more than that. The drivers are super nice, even when we've left beyond extra trash than usual and they're ALWAYS on time... Sometimes we don't even get the extra bag fee on our bill - and we try to tip as frequently as we can for this! We love Lake Area!
