Trista was extremely helpful when there was a billing issue on our autopay. She walked me through how to turn off autopay, pay the bill manually and then turn it back on. She explained that sometimes there are glitches on the system and that it was not a big issue. She also explained the difference in pricing for changing our type of service. She was very pleasant and really a joy to speak with. Groot has a gem with this customer service rep!

Had an issue with an old credit card on my account. Called and spoke with Trista, and she was fantastic. Walked me though the process of setting up a new auto-pay so no more worries about payments. 5 star service!

I spoke with Trista on the phone this morning. She was very informative and very helpful. You should value her employment with your company. I'm retired now but ran a very large corporation and fantastic help was very hard to find. I made sure I over compensated a great employee as not to lose them to a competitor. Employees that handle the consumer via the phone, are your company! Again, very good service Trista, a pleasure speaking with you on the phone.

I had to cancel service and start service at differing addresses, change phone contact, inquire about service fees, etc. The representative Lydia was very friendly, helpful, and quick. She explained the fees, the differing refuse containers, etc. We have always been satisfied with Groot refuse services and our drivers are always great, too. Thank you Groot; especially Lydia and our refuse/recycle pickup drivers.

I recently moved to Grayslake and I had questions about what to do with all my moving boxes since they obviously wouldn’t fit in the provided bin. The first person I spoke with at Groot said only what was in the bin would be picked up. At that rate, it would be months before I could dispose of all my boxes, so I called Groot again, and spoke with a young woman named Trista. She was caring, gracious, and knowledgeable. She told me that I could leave boxes outside the bin and just label them as Recycling. She was correct and I can’t tell you what a relief that was for me!
Today, I tried setting up my payment online for Groot using automatic withdrawal. After trying for two days, I finally called and spoke with Trista. I’m a senior citizen and not great with technology, but Trista walked me through the process. We got stuck on creating a nickname, which was a requirement, but Trista figured out that you needed to have a name with a hashtag and a number. (It does not say that on the application, so they should add that information!) I am happy to be in Grayslake, and I’m very appreciative of Trista!Jan 09, 2026 -
Groot is very good at taking garbage items that do not fit in the can and are standing outside of the bin. We’ve had their service in three different towns, two different counties, and they are very reliable unlike the service where a relative lives. Also, as a seniors, their representative Trista helped us with obtaining smaller cans because our house came with the much larger family size ones.

I had a customer service question, called in and spoke to Trista who was very helpful. The wait time was short, and she was able to pull up my account quickly and answered my questions. She spoke very clearly which is so refreshing these days as it's difficult to understand some customer service reps at other companies. Thank you.

Their policies are really frustrating. Waiting 48 hours for a payment to post is understandably annoying. It’s upsetting that the money is withdrawn immediately from your account, and even with proof, they insist they cannot override their system regarding trash pickup. It feels like every representative I speak with has a somewhat dismissive attitude. Even when paying over the phone to arrange trash pickup, they say I need to pay an extra $50 to send someone out. The confusing part is that they often miss pickup, despite my bins being out on time, yet the office staff often comes across as rude, implying I might be lying. It’s only after reviewing their truck drivers’ cameras that they finally send someone to pick up the trash. I truly dislike their service and wish there were alternative trash companies available to us..

The woman who answers the phone is truly the best!! Customer service can’t be an easy job these days and she truly is the sweetest! Let’s you ask as many questions as you need to & doesn’t rush you off & super knowledgeable! She’s definitely the person you want on the front line :)

Our garbage cans fell into the ditch during a snow storm on Saturday . Called to see if they could come pick them on Monday and they are trying to charge me $50 to come pick up the garbage can. What am I supposed to do surveillance my garbage cans. I picked them up as soon as I noticed. Person on the phone was rude. Waste Management was way better service

Go to your local Township meetings & pressure everyone you can to switch back to waste management. There genuinely isn't a single thing Groot doesn't screw up. They are not remotely consistent with pickup times, it can be as early as before 7 AM or as late as after 6 PM. More than 50% of the time they leave bins knocked over. Anything outside of a bin you will be overcharged for & even then they still don't even pick it up most of the time. We were all gaslight it would be cheaper but the majority of residents are saying they're being charged more. This all reeks of some backroom deal because it's not like groots worse services & reputation were secret when the villages around here foolishly switched anyways. I genuinely haven't met a single person up here who is happy with the switch.

All of the Drivers are fantastic and Great people to talk to: they go out of their way to help every home owner. They always seem to know who are the elderly that need their containers taken up to the house

Just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the individual that collects our recycling. He makes sure everything is emptied, and picks up anything that falls on the road. He also closes the lid, which is very appreciated if it is raining. We appreciate you!

Trista was extremely helpful when I called and connected with Trista regarding the leaf vacuum truck that passed me right by. Trista explained that the truck is only able to do one side of the street at a time due to the vacuum hose only being 3feet in length. Trista informed me that if the truck did not come back by Saturday (today) to call her on Monday and she would be certain to get the truck out to my home. Thanks to Trista the truck actually came back and took care of both of my piles of leaves. Trista was kind, courteous, informative, and extremely helpful with the questions I had. Trista took great care of me as a customer and Trista should be commended by a supervisor for a job well done.

Trista was amazingly helpful, and I can't thank her enough. I didn't recall getting an invoice in the mail but when I saw the Groot truck it was a great reminder to call. Trista was quickly able to pull up my account - email over the invoice and instructions AND take payment over the phone without an extra fee. I love the service Groot has been providing with our pickups and Trista is a shining example of customer service excellence. Thank you!!

I'd rather eat my garbage than deal with this company. The drivers are so rude and always feel the need to put the empty bins behind our cars and my mother is disabled and has a hard time moving them. She had to call on a neighbor to help get them out of the way so she can make it to her doctor appointment. If this horrible company wasn't a requirement in my area I'd drop them in a heartbeat.

Today's leaf pick-up was absolutely wonderful. I have lots of leaves and the driver even helped the sweeper with amazing team work just now in Grayslake. Lydia was amazing customer service! I forgot to bring the cans out and needed a special pick up. I submitted the request in the portal, and not 60 seconds later, Lydia called and was friendly and professional. Driver coming out today to take care of it. Small reasonable charge, but thats on me. Great service with GROOT!

Lidia was so helpful explaining the Senior options offered by Groot. My current containers will be picked up on 10/14 after 6:00 am, and 2 35 gallon containers will be dropped off. I’m so glad that Lidia gave me all the details since I wouldn’t know what questions to ask! She also processed an online payment and immediately sent me a receipt. She’s definitely a keeper!!!!

Terrible service, I’ve had to call multiple times to tell them to pick up my yard waste, even though I pay a fortune for it. I also get different information when I talk to people when I call. You are only allowed one bin and one bulk item. However, one extra black garbage bag does not count And you have to call ahead and be charged for it. You won’t know what the charge is until they pick it up Is what I was told. When we had waste management, it was so much better.

Thank you Groot for this valuable service you provide! Suggestion: make a YouTube video of your various services offered. I would especially like to see the "full circle" on common items recycled... your videographers should capture the end products of recycled pop cans, glass, paper, ESPECIALLY plastic! In other words, what REALLY happens to items we set out on our curbs every week of the year?? Don't just show your tipping floor and sorting facility... FOLLOW the trucks that haul all those bales and containers of glass, plastic, paper.etc. THEN PLEASE POST THE VIDEO ON YOUTUBE and send out an email or text to every customer... spread the word... don't be casual or half-hearted about this!... be proactive and "rattle the consumers' cages" frequently enough to improve and upgrade our recycling efforts and infrastructure.
