What clients say about Chicago Northwest KOA Holiday in Uniontown (IL)

My wife and I stayed their in 2017. They had just changed owners at the time. The folks there were very nice an accommodating. My sister was sick with cancer and they where so close to where she lived and we had stayed a whole month and I have to say we had a great experience there. We are coming back this fall and plan on staying there again.

Went during October. Lots of activities for the kids. Camp site decoration competitions each weekend (for Halloween). Trick or treating, hay rides, etc. Fire wood delivery to the site. Bathrooms are clean. Cabin was nice. Had heat and AC if needed, a mini fridge and electricity.

Nice campground easy access off I 90 and still in the country. Nice almost level sites. Friendly staff.

This KOA has an amazing staff! Friendly, helpful, and they have really fun weekend events! We happened to be staying during a Halloween weekend and sites were decorated, they had a costume trick or treat time, haunted hayrides, and more!! This is my 4th (?) time staying here and it's always nice ?

We stayed here in a 5th wheel, our site had a fire pit, a dog pen and flower box. The park was decorated for Halloween. The park is clean and has a great playground with plenty of things for kids to do. They also have a mini golf course as well. Bathrooms and showers were clean and maintained. We would definitely stay here again.

We had initially only planned to stay for a few days. With our plans changing, we were adding days multiple times. The team at Chicago Northwest supported us in every way possible such that we could limit the number of site moves and we had a great site for the day we had our 92 year grams having a dinner cook-out with us at the campgrounds. Great memories were made and we appreciate the team for accommodating us.

This KOA is VERY far from Chicago. I don't hold that against them, but if you need to be close to a particular area of Chicago, plan on a hotel in that area. Service was spot-on! The sites need to be re-designed and leveled. It's not good to have 2 tires on the ground and 2 almost touching the ground. The new-ish cement patios are very nice.

We recently stayed for one night. The staff are friendly. The location while remote from many things to do around the Chicago area except for the train museum is quiet. Unfortunately as others have commented the water is brownish and smells of rust. It’s likely iron from rusting pipes that while not necessarily a health risk is not something that’s palatable to most. Definitely didn’t drink it. We fortunately travel with jugs of water just in case we find issues with water at campgrounds. Because of the water we won’t stay again nor recommend it to others.

They are very nice. The positives end there. The water is bad - smells like blood - and even with our water filter on our RV it doesn’t feel clean. When you fill a bath it’s solid brown. The location is safe, but an hour and half from any of the famous Chicago sites. It’s definitely not worth the price we paid to stay.

This location upon arrival was right off the main road, not well lit. We came in as a late check in, called and informed. We had our key card waiting for us at a box, nobody escorted us or checked on us until 6pm the next day, upon checking on us only to tel us we are at the wrong site, a family of 5 and 2 dogs and they wanted us to move 1 foot over. We explained it was 10 pm when we came in and we didn’t see the numbers due to them not being lit at all for any indication of a site number. Upon them approaching us we were not happy with that and asked if we could just switch. At first it was ok. Then the owner said no and told us to leave. It was a hassle to get a refund, and upon getting our refund from the office they sold our spot on the phone while we were in office. The water taste of metal and has brown color to it, the property is not lit to see anything at all at night. Due to this, oir son tripped on the sidewalk that stepped down into gravel and it was not well lit at the step area. We were in and out of the office today buying Knick knacks. No issue until other campers arrived at 6pm tonight. The owner is hostile. She tells her employees to hush when they do show Sincere care and concern to the situation. Owner lives on site upstairs. My children were so upset. I must add if you are a tent camper Sylvia , the problem arose because the tent was set up at the wrong site due to no proper lighting nor a work camper coming in the morning to insure her guests arrived over night.

Very nice well cared for campground, nice sites alot shaded, a little narrow but we fit fine with our 35" 5th wheel easily could have fit larger and put our large slide out, out easily and besides you get to know your neighbors

This was my 1st time at any of the KOA. I heard great things. It actually was a nice place to stay. A few amenities for a family such as the pool, mini golf, play mat pads for children, swings, sliding boards etc. It not as large as some camping grounds ds I stay at. But it definitely work for me and my boyfriend. They do have very large RV's come through. The people were nice and pleasant. I wld come back again, especially since it was short distance (1.15 mi s away)!

Stayed in a “Rustic Cabin”. It was nice to have the AC on the humid days we stayed. Lots of activities for kids. People staying at other spots were very kind. Staff was helpful and quick. The only reason for only 4 stars is that the pool definitely could use a few updates, due to peeling spots on the pool walls. Would definitely come stay again.

This place is amazing with showers, laundry, and an actual stainless steel dish washing station. Family activities out the wazoo. Only downfall was the jerks across from us with the friggin dog that would not stop barking!!!! Wish I had my pistol !!! Dogs that bark like that should be left at home or in the desert !!! You jerks should’ve been more considerate of your fellow campers !!! 7/18 -7/20 2025

We ended up at the Chicago KOA for almost a month. Had to change sites a few times, but overall was a nice experience. Eric helped us with a bug issue and Silvia was very nice and accommodating.

Great place to camp and relax. no loud music, no loud people, love it ♥️ The only thing was, the pool is a little small, I wish they had a bigger one or another pool. For the rest, everything was great, the hostesses are wonderful, We'll definitely come back!

About as good as a KOA can get and trust me I’ve been to tons!! This place is immaculately clean. Every campsite was level with gravel, nice playground for the kids, pool, minigolf and clean updated bathrooms. Staff is always in golf carts buzzing around and happy to help if you need anything.

I was not originally planning on leaving a review, but after the owner left me an untrue review without explanation on my Airbnb profile, I need to rectify this. She said we never met because I decided to check out early. However, we did meet once when she let me into the gift shop after hours. I left during the first night because the cabin we stayed at was dangerous and filthy. I had to leave due to a medical emergency (Anaphylaxis) because the cabin was covered in allergens. I needed to come back the next day to empty our belongings. It is obvious that they have not done a deep clean on this cabin for years. The dust, rodent droppings, and pet hair are caked on thick. We have proof that they only do a spot-clean as we watched the cabin next to us get "cleaned". Spray bottle, paper towel, and some type of floor mop. Which was not used in our cabin before our stay because there was dust and trash everywhere. We asked for a refund, and the owner refused to speak to us about the situation, telling us that she will look into it and get back to us. Airbnb told us that she would only refund us $100 because of x,y,z. She had incorrect information. Stating she was not sure how I am allergic to pets when I marked having pets for my stay. FYI, I am allergic to dogs, not cats. I own two cats that were with us. I am also allergic to dust, which she totally dismissed. She also accused me of not paying for my ice cream. Her employee at the gift shop told us it would get charged to the card on file for my cabin. Still awaiting an invoice to pay for that ice cream btw, which I am totally happy to pay for. She has not sent us an invoice to pay for it yet. My wife also got cut by a rusty screen door lock. Maybe file it down? Lastly, there was a drug/vape pen found in between the mattress and bed frame. Lucky my young child did not find that. She dismissed everything I said, even the photos. No apology either. Totally unacceptable. I understand it is a rustic cabin, but there is no excuse to have it be this dirty. For anyone with allergies to dust, pet dander or rodent droppings, I recommend staying somewhere else. Nature's Way RV Park is the best place to stay. Same layout, used to be a KOA. At least they deep clean their cabins. Sylvia, maybe stay there and get an example of how a rustic cabin should be cared for as well as outstanding customer service skills. Best of luck to you.

I've stayed at many KOAs through the last eight years or so and have never had a bad experience until trying to get a spot at this one tonight. I went to the KOA website to check availability for our 33' Keystone 5th wheel camper and it stated a site was available but we would need to call directly the Chicago Northwest KOA to get the site. We called and no one answered but I left an urgent voice mail for the female voice to please return my call. We called a second time and again no answer so we decided to drive there. Once we found the campground we eventually were greeted by a lady who said our rig was at least 35' and they had no site that would work for us. We explained about the website stating availability and that our 5th wheel specs show less than 33' but she was no help. Would not recommend.

Keep in mind for this review, we are driving a Class A and towing. We also arrived after dark which we don’t like to do but Chicago traffic delayed us by over 4 hours. About any time of day you’re at least an hour from downtown if you’re planning on day tripping back into the city. The pull through spots (KOA patios) were PACKED in there. There is also limited parking in the other sites so people’s trucks, golf carts, canopies and awnings made it dicey getting to our spot. The location of the patio was also clear in the back which for a class A meant our door exits you into the very long/wet grass. We also had a cabin. Arriving after hours they said the key was on the table and the cabin was unlocked. It wasn’t. After hours number was not answered and messages not returned. Eventually texting them got somebody out there. The park seemed well maintained but it was just too crowded for what we typically enjoy at a KOA Holiday.

Brought my kids here camping for their first time and they had a blast! The grate to cook on over the fire pit was good enough to cook on after cleaning it, heating it, and oiling it. The bathrooms are clean and are checked on a schedule. The pool looks nice, especially for a campsite, however, it was early in the season so it was cold. The text message system for wood delivery and other items from the store is nice. They had activities for the kids and we all had a nice time! It is gated. The staff is cruising around often and the grounds are clean and well maintained. I will go back for sure! Bravo to the KOA staff for being friendly, helpful, and keeping the place tidy.

This is a campground. It works well does pretty much all rigs you just need to tell them what you want. They deliver everything. Parking at store is limited. Have it delivered. It's free. Just text them. They are gated which is nice. Garbage and drops easy if you need them. I will be back. I had issues with internet but it's there and very well could of been my equiptment because I am set with Hot spot and still had issues so I will investigate that.

Not sure how one rates a campground for rooms! I guess maybe if you did the cabins. We did not. Stopped one night on our way to Wyoming and again on the way back. Bathrooms were clean, the small trailer sites were perfect for our needs. Would definitely stay again if passing through or staying to see the sites.

Friendly staff and well kept property. Location is near Union, IL, which has a cute downtown and a train museum. Price isn't too bad for full hook up pull through. Each spot has a picnic table and fire pit as well. There is also a well stocked shop with fun souvenirs and essentials you may need.

I've stayed here with my family a couple times now and had a great time. We brought our 21' travel trailer and enjoyed all the activities for the kiddos on the weekend. The staff is very friendly and attentive. And being able to text them and have firewood and ice delivered directly to our site is a nice perk! Definitely recommend and will stay here again. Family friendly and an easy drive from Chicago!

This is a great campground. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and lots of activities for the kids. We stayed a week while also visiting family in Chicago. It is a bit of a drive to get into Chicago - and we found it easier to drive 50 minutes to the Edgebrook station (Milwaukee NW train to union station) to get downtown rather than driving to Woodstock and taking a 2 hour train. The entry driveway is a little tight so be careful entering and exiting that there isn’t another rig in the way!

We stayed here in a travel trailer so keep that in mind when you read my review. Our first impression was a good one when we pulled into the park. As you enter you can see that the campground is well taken care of. We were greeted by an attendant who looked up what site we had and then had another employee escort us to the site. We stayed in a pull through site that was level and the hook up all were in good order other than the sewer hook up was a little far away from us and I did not have a long enough sewer hose to reach it. The campground also has a kid park that was decent, a very nice pool that was very relaxing. The campground also has games you can play, activities on the weekends such as movies and hay rides, and they also have bikes for rent. This is not to mention a fairly well stocked campstore. The showers were clean and free. The bathrooms also were clean and well taken care of. The campground also does have free wifi but it was very slow so don't expect a whole lot from it. Overall this was a great stay. We had a fun weekend at a nice park.

We recently stayed at this campsite and had a mixed experience, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. While there were definitely some fun activities planned, many of them were geared toward younger kids, and the overall vibe wasn’t very outdoorsy (which is fine for some). If you’re looking for a place with hiking paths and open water for kayaking or swimming, like at Shabbona, this may not be the best fit. One of the biggest downsides was the lack of shade in the activity areas, which made it uncomfortable to hang out there for too long. The putt putt, bounce pad, tether ball, gaga ball, and playground were all exposed to the sun all hours of the day. It made it extremely difficult to stay out for long and for some, being exposed to the UV rays is a concern. On the upside, the pool was nice and cool, as long as it wasn't too busy. Sadly, the items for sale in the shop were pretty overpriced, which was disappointing. We also ran into some frustrating miscommunications with the staff. We “rented” a volleyball, and one staff member told us we wouldn’t be charged as long as we returned it. However, when we were checking out, they tried to charge us $10.99. We managed to clear up the confusion and weren’t charged in the end, but it was an unnecessary hassle. Another issue was with firewood. We were surprised to receive 6 bundles of firewood that we didn’t recall ordering or confirming. When we tried to tell the lady who delivered it, she didn’t listen and just insisted we had ordered it before driving off. While we obviously made use of the firewood, the lack of communication around these small matters was frustrating. While this may not be my style, don't let me stop you from coming to have some fun with your family/friends! They do have fun activities and convenient sites (close to bathrooms/showers). Speaking of, the showers were nice as well. The bathrooms seemed decently kept and I appreciated the real showers. The only thing with that was if you’re afraid of spiders, the showers can be a spooky place (there were a lot of webs and spiders above the shower on the walls). Overall, we did have fun, but the experience was marred by these inconveniences. I probably wouldn’t choose this site again, as it just isn’t our style.

This was honestly by far one of the best campgrounds I have visited. I loved the little fun activities, as well as how clean and nice the area was. We had a full hookup site, pet friendly, with a fenced area for dogs. A ton of space between RVs, didn’t have any problem with parking, very spacious. Also very friendly staff, and amazing job with informing about bad weather. The RV sites were not level, but they did give us wooden boards for free to fix that problem, which it did. Very amazing, and I honestly wish I could stay longer. Though I wish that a pool closed a little later, but other than that this was an amazing campground.

My experience here was amazing. The staff was very nice and friendly. As soon as you enter the campground a staff member on a golf cart meets you at the entrance and leads you to your site. The site was amazing and had a fenced area for dogs and give you bags to pick up after your dog. They also have people in golf carts going around the campground in case anyone needs help. They also let you know about weather problems hours earlier and cancel any activities that they have planned for the day. They also have tons of activities planned every day such as tie-dye shirts making and ice cream and a candy hunt at night. They also have mini golf for free. The only thing that I might recommend is that they should put RV/trailer parts in the shop. Overall this was the best RV campground that I have been in since I can remember.
