A Unique Stop with Road Trip Charm I recently visited the Moonshine General Store during a trip south and found it to be a fun and memorable detour—just 30 minutes off my route, which made it an easy choice. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and the burger was solid, though I wouldn’t rank it among the very best in Illinois. That said, I can absolutely see the appeal for riders and road trippers passing through—there’s something special about the setting and the tradition. It’s worth noting that my visit was during the off-season, so perhaps I didn’t catch it at its liveliest. If you’re planning a longer trip just for this stop, it might be wise to check ahead or time it with peak season to get the full experience. Still, I’m glad I went—it’s a slice of Americana that’s hard to replicate.

This place is a little slice of heaven on earth. The burger was fantastic. They make burgers. You go for the burger. You leave with an amazing burger. Simple as that. Very welcoming and they had fresh tomato’s from their garden and they were the best tomato I’ve ever had in my life. (Don’t tell my grandpa I said that). It’s well worth the detour off of 70. He’ll I might have to drive all the way for my house in Texas just for this burger.

Old time general store that is mostly a burger stand. Place your order and it is cooked hot fresh and quick. Dress your own sandwich with local tomatoes sliced for serving with pickles , onions and many condiment choices. Bags of potato chips and coolers with soft drinks are for sale. No options for vegans or alphagal sufferers is a draw back.

Great place to go real small out middle of nowhere good food usually a lot of motorcycles or Jeep runs I haven't seen a helicopter there once

Such a great place. So much memorabilia and old-time fun things. The burger we got didn't look anything like previous pictures posted. But it was still tasty. The tenderloin was a little dry. But in all fairness, we did go for the burger. It was a fun drive and worth the trip.

Always a good way to spend a Saturday morning with great burgers. Last time I went we all ordered the quads. Only 1 guy couldn't finish his. Remember, the grill shuts off at 12:30, so you'll want to get there well before then, in case there is a line.

Great burger we had the double cheese double a whole pound cheeseburger huge, didn't try the quad, maybe next time.

After hearing (for years) about the MoonBurger and other menu items in Moonshine, I decided it was high time I headed down there and tried it for myself. Like many first timers, I ordered too much! The burgers are indeed HUGE! A single would have been more than sufficient! As I was driving down there, I couldn’t help thinking that the 2+ hours that I drove was a lengthy drive for lunch. Then I sat down with and chatted with a couple of individuals who drove up from Mobile, Alabama. They were making what’s become an annual Illinois trip. Not ‘just’ to the store, but as one of them put it: What’s a trip to Illinois without stopping at Moonshine? I was beginning to understand the T-shirts that said: Make it a Moonshine Adventure!

Get there early to beat the crowd. And pay attention to what you order. Those burgers are HUGE! It was a beautiful day to set under the trees and visit with people from all over the area. Such a neat place. And I could never pass up a Fanta in a glass bottle ?.

Very cool , awesome food the old building very cool . Watching passing farmer's stop to grab lunch . So Awesome will return .

Got up early for our 2.5hr drive to eat at the Moonshine Store. Was well worth the drive, the burgers were juicy and perfectly cooked. We thought we would have a long wait after ordering, but had our food in about 5 minutes. Just hanging out with all the people, talking and listening to everyone's stories was an experience in its own. Will definitely be back a few more times this year ????

Bring cash or use their ATM since they don't take plastic. Great place, really nice people. Burgers were amazing. You get a choice of sides such as chips, potato salad, or macaroni salad, with lots of drink options as well. The store itself is a cool throwback to years gone by, with plenty of cool "knick" knacks" to buy. It's a bit out there all by itself. We drove an hour and a half to get there, but well worth the drive.

We heard about Moonshine Store while visiting Casey, Illinois, and let me tell you ... it is worth the extra little drive to go there, but go early, because it is non-stop busy and the grills are turned off at 12:30pm sharp! The burgers are gi-normous & delicious, there are a variety of toppings to pick from conveniently located in the middle of the room, side items are already portioned out and in a fridge cooler for you to pick out, and seating is outside at picnic tables! So if you've never heard of a Moonshine Burger and you're in the area ... make the time, make the drive, bring cash, and stop by the Moonshine Store ... you won't regret it !!

The food is great! These folks have food preparation down to a science! No matter how many people are there (and there were 50 or 60 at least), you always get your food within minutes. You can't really claim to be a biker unless you've been to the Moonshine Store!

Had the double cheeseburger. Was very juicy and tasty! This is not your typical "restaurant", it is more like a diner where you place your order, they call your name, you get your food then go sit and eat. No waitresses, no busboys, in fact, you go outside and eat on their picnic tables. It is all about the atmosphere! Very relaxing if your into it! Obviously, recommended you go on a nice warm day with a friend. Sit outside, eat a delicious burger and enjoy the air and companionship.

Well worth a two and a half hour trip to the middle of nowhere. George Motz sent us there, but the food will bring us back. The burgers made me nearly propose to my partner because of how happy they made us. They have a lovely assortment of strange sodas, and every piece of decor will drag you into the experience better than the last. Will always hold a wonderful place in my heart. Well done, Moonshine.

The cheeseburger wasn't anything special other than being big. Pretty dry and unseasoned. They get busy so they aren't really making to order, and the burgers sit there and aren't warm when they come out. The toppings were separate and outside and again, pretty standard. No tomato or lettuce just onion and pickle and condiments. The sides were done for the season(?) So we were just eating the chips and again, nothing special. No drinks other than soda, so kind of a miss except for the atmosphere and the nice staff. If you're going it's mostly just to say you went there or because Motz sent you.

This is a story of a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, that does one thing really well and for that reason brings in people from miles around. It was slammed the Saturday I visited so I had a little wait, was thinking the burgers might have looked a little dry, but when I took my first bite, it was absolutely delicious. Only thing I did wrong, I had a triple when a double would have been plenty

A destination burger joint with a unique history. Go back in time to when things were simpler to enjoy a Moonshine burger that has been featured on a variety of national platforms. There's nothing special about the way these large burgers are prepared... they're just fried up on an old flat grill with no special seasonings, but the taste is unforgettable. Get there on time... the grill turns off at 12:30 pm.

Came here with our Jeep club. Awesome food, awesome service, awesome location! It is literally in the middle of a cornfield, and it is so neat seeing it so busy! When we got there, there was a motorcycle club already there, on top of the 100 jeeps we were with! Look this place up and read about its history, its pretty neat! We are going on a road trip in July, and we definitely plan on stopping on the way through! Oh and they sell merchandise as well!

Awesome place and the burgers are huge. Allow enough time due to a long line but it moves pretty fast. Definitely a Midwest hidden gem.

Amazing. This place is a nice country drive away. You don't want to miss this one. Amazing burgers, so fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is much bigger than it appears. Country little place on the corner with big tasty food.

The freshest hamburger you will ever have. Handmade and cooked fresh. If you remember how good grandpa's cookouts tasted this will bring it all back. Simple with fresh garden raised toppings and outdoor picnic seating area. The most countriest atmosphere you will ever find. The country store is just loaded with antiques that will bring back great memories. Warning to get there early as they close the grill at 12:30. For such a small place there will be plenty of people from all over the USA coming to find this treasure and to get a down home style hamburger.

The burger was by far the best I've ever had. Such an interesting and unique destination. Now I wish I wouldn't have put off going so long.
