These guys rock. I was in a jeep rental and the overheat thermostat gauge light came on and the needle was over pretty much to the H. Anyway- I pulled in and they had someone look at it right away and within 15 minutes had it diagnosed- fan was toast. The rental person came and picked this one up and switched out for another.
I've had me and my car car rescued numerous times,on johns orders,always a fair price for service.(Have to appreciate where your at).options?,well,there aren't many at the bottom of the island.
WoW!!! I could write a book as to how I feel about these guys right now!!!! We run a non profit out of South Kona (Ocean Janitors) and we needed some work done on our truck! This guys were amazing!! They got us in fast!! They got to the bottom of our truck issues! The thing I was impressed with was, they seemed like they really cared to have my business and to get our truck up and running well! The staff was absolutely friendly and super awesome!! These guys have definitely earned all my business! They do pretty much all repairs and safety checks! Thank you guys for your amazing work! I highly recommend coming here John and the staff are very professional and nice. Had to get an oil change tire rotation and a small repair on my tire due to a nail. Out of all the places I went I trust this place more than anything. Will definitely be coming here for everything.
Stopped here on our way to the volcano national park. Our rental car was making a lot of noise due to missing clips in the under carriage. The guys took care of us right away and were SO nice!! Highly recommend.
My sidewall got gashed in ocean view on Labor Day would’ve been a annoying situation if not for these guys the dispatcher was quick to call and very helpful the driver Ivan was extremely punctual got to me within 30mins and set up perfectly for my low car didn’t even scrape and used nice strap binders (gentle on wheels) on top of that the cab of the truck was extremely roomy and kept clean
Called 20 minutes before a scheduled tow to say they aren’t going to honor the AAA contract that they accepted and called to
confirm. Instead of sending it back to AAA so another tow company can handle, they cancelled the order.
I'm Tourist driving a rental on the wrong side of the road. We got a severe leak in a tire somewhere between volcano and south point. Rental company was less than helpful.
(Despite paying extra for the roadside)
Put the spare on and drove ka'u auto repair.
They had us sorted out and back on the road in no time.

Blown away by how quickly we were helped! I locked my keys in the truck and within literally 10 minutes of getting off the phone, Derrick pulled up and saved us. Took maybe 2 minutes tops for him to do his thing and we were back in action. Fast, friendly, professional. Highly recommend!
One of their lead techs spent a lot of time and effort figuring out a really weird problem our T100 was having, which no one else could ever figure out! Plus their guy who does inspections is a delight along with the lady who works in the office! Great place that will take really good care of you!
Blew a tire about 3 miles from there (with my dogs). Sold me a better than decent used tire for a good price. Even tho they were busy, John got it done for me so I could get back to my dogs. Didn't notice until later he'd also balanced the tire. Aloha Kau auto!
Today, my car broke down at the gas pumps at Costco during the peak afternoon hours. I called AAA and Ka'u Auto Repair called me shortly after, letting me know he was on the way (I didn't get his name, sadly). He was friendly and I was able to let him know exactly where I was located. Luckily, I was at the first row of pumps to the left and not in the middle lanes. Once he showed up, we acted fast and he blocked off my lane so no cars could come through and he was able to quickly, but safely back the tow truck in and get my car up and out of there without causing too much of a hold up for everyone in line to get gas. I would like to say thank you for getting me out of that awkward and embarrassing situation! Spectacular service!
Had a blown tire on the bypass highway at night as a result of a previous patch on the tire had blown. Derek was our tow truck driver, and I cannot say anything but nice things about the incredible service and the kindness he showed to our group of 470+ seniors. We were visitors to the island and had just been at volcano national Park, so to be able to have someone be so kind and caring after a long day was wonderful. Thank you Kau, towing, and especially Derek.
My tire had a flat and AAA enlisted Ka'u Auto Repair. Luckily they were on the Kona side. Frank (dispatcher) called and texted immediately. Curtis (tow driver) was awesome! Friendly, courteous, quick, efficient, safe, he had me back on the road in about 15mins (from his arrival)! It was dark where I had pulled over on the side but I felt very safe. Curtis also gave me good tips on driving on the spare and he was knowledge about my car & tire. Ka'u Auto Repair rocks! You are in good hands with them - mahalo to Curtis & Frank!
I was dumb and made my appointment for the wrong day. But, they squeezed me in on the day I needed. Last minute. I have never seen any inspectors be so thorough and also efficient. Like this guy was accurate and fast. Meanwhile he’s running this cool family owned mechanic shop with his wife. I like that they run it together as a family. I feel like I will be taking my vehicle there for sure.
I moved to Kau several years ago, my first experience was using my AAA towing service. They sometimes took awhile but always arrived cheerful and ready to help.
Now that I lost my husband (who did everything for us) They are really superior service. From helping with Safety stickers and repairs of all sorts. Fast and reasonable rates. A real local business that cares of all of us. Aloha to each and everyone of them. Mahalo
LOVE these guys; we are so fortunate to have their caring, professional, and expert service for our car repair needs AND towing. We were stuck in Kona yesterday with a dead car that wouldn't take a jump (2 hours away from home) and when the Toyota dealer couldn't work us into their schedule, called AAA who assigned us to a Kona towing company who was too busy to take the call. Fortunately Ka'u Auto Repair had a truck fairly close by and their driver Oni was able to get to us pretty quickly and take us and our car back to their shop close to home in their comfortable, air conditioned tow truck. And they'll be able to handle the repair. Can't recommend them highly enough. Huge Mahalo Ka'u Auto Repair!!!
Our truck broke down at Hookena and Pauly came to the rescue! Pauly was super nice, respectful, and drove/parked our truck like a BOSS. Trisha helped keep us informed about issues with the roads along the way and was also super nice and understanding. Highly recommend these lovely people for all your towing needs.
The people there are amazing! Even though my car(a 1951 Packard) was completely out of their wheel house they went above and beyond to help get me mobile again
We needed to get the tire fixed on our rental vehicle so we came to the Ka'ū Auto Repair shop. The young gentleman that helped us went out of his way to find the exact size tire for the vehicle since our tire couldn't be repaired. Amazing service, would highly recommend!
Had called AAA for a Kona→Wkla tow but the contracted truck declined the work order (never knew they could) … was left in the rain. KAR saw the w/o, called me to assure they would honour my request … a few days later, made another call to AAA, specifically asked for KAR and they were there as promised. Quick, efficient and excellent service … mahalo KAR for bringing my vehicle home!
Great experience every time. Honest and helpful peeps here. Professional, quick, and kind and courteous. Today I've had an oil change and a cap to oil tank in my car was missing from the previous oil change done by Sears. The Ka'u Auto peeps ordered the part and had it delivered from Hilo on same day! I'm so grateful! Only coming here for all my car needs from now on.
I usually only get a safety check for my Bolt EV. It's quick and efficient.
When my wife's cars battery died they came quickly and restarted it with no problem. Later on they replaced battery quickly.
Oil change was done as well with minimal disruption.
All together - never had an issue... good experience
