Husband took a pickup truck full of cardboard to recycle today since we are still recovering from the storm surge flooding. Why wasn't the gate unlocked and open?!? This is Saturday at 10:45am. Plus 2 other people were there as well. Everyone was mad as hornets!! Do better Largo!!
Closing hours and fence sucks! I work 2 jobs so it's extremely hard to be able to go there now. Extremely frustrating. At least keep it open later on Saturdays so most working people can actually recycle
Apparently you have to be retired to be allowed to recycle. They just put in a gate which I'm sure helps with people dumping trash but when you close at 4:30 you completely eliminate the working public. I can't take time off in the day because I need to take my recycling and I can't bring my cans with me to work. Who's bright idea was this? And on Saturday after working all week sure let me get there before 11:30. Again the only people who are going to be recycling are the oldsters who stuff it full of Styrofoam and plastic bags and unbroken down boxes. Why even pay for this public service?
I echo the sentiments of the most recent post. I am a longtime Largo resident in a managed community that doesn’t recycle. I have been using this facility for my recycling for several years and it was always convenient until about a month or so ago when they put up a gate and started locking the facility without any posted hours. Every week I tried to go after work at 6:00 and no luck. It has been locked in the afternoons randomly, and at different times early evening without rhyme or reason. It is very frustrating for those of us who want to do what is good for the environment. The facility went from “always open” to virtually never open without any notice. At least post the operating hours and make them reasonable for the people who work and pay taxes in Largo. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to stay open until 7:00 pm during the week and perhaps 5:00 Saturday and closed Sunday. This would allow the working people of the township to actually get their recycling accomplished.
It was fine, but now they close at 4:30pm. It will definitely reduce the amount of recyclables people take there. I am not sure how changing hours will reduce polluting. The employees there don't check your cars and verify what you deposit in the containers. Cameras can prevent illegal dumping.

They put a new gate up a few weeks ago to control the polluting. It has been closed in the evenings and on the weekends now. I can't drop off my items except during my lunch hour. I also wanted to mulch (They offer free mulch )my yard this BUT it is locked with No hours of operation Posted. I will contact the largo city manager monday. I already reached out to bay news 9 for clarification also.
This place sucks. They put a fence around it and have it closed on Sunday. A day most of us can get there. Anything they can do to make recycling inconvenient they do it here.The hell with recycling I do it the old fashion way and just throw it out the window. Tear down the fence and keep it open and I will start recycling again.
Apparently the public isn't allowed to recycle anymore as the new hours are ridiculous! Currently they have also been holding the recycling containers inside away from the publics eye. Why even have this facility if it's not being used???
Hours of operation that are posted are not followed. Very frustrating when you arrive and see the gate locked but is 11am or 3pm on a workday or 10am on Saturday.
