I purchased a set of four tires from TERRY’S AUTOMOTIVE and several months later I found out that all four tires were underinflated by 8 pounds or 25% I discovered this when my car hit a large pothole in the road causing damage to my left front custom rim costing me $400 to replace. Terry (owner) denied any liability on the part of his mechanic . Stay far away from this shop!
Terry is very nice and honest and will give you the best price he can, didn’t charge me for diagnostics this morning and I would recommend them highly!!
Very good customer service. However, a technician here told me the car needed a $200 new battery. I went three other places and the battery tested fine.
Took my vehicle two times for tire rotation, oil, change and alignment.
The first time was OK, except for the fact that they left greasy fingerprints all over the front of my car.
The second time I took my car in when I got it back there was grease all over the leather seats, There were greasy fingerprints all over the front of the vehicle. This time I went back in and told Terry he had one of his people come out with a greasy rag To clean my leather seats and the front of my vehicle, I told that guy to stop and I left thinking that was the end of my business with Terry’s.
The next day, my wife left in the morning and when I walked out into the garage, there were oil spots all over the floor. When she came back, I got up underneath the vehicle and looked, and there was oil all over the splash shield for the engine and oil dripping Off a couple of bolts. I took the vehicle back to Terry’s. They took it in the back they said everything was fine And all they can think is that the guy that changed the oil missed the opening where you put the oil in and it spilled all over the side of the engine.
I do not think this is a very professional shop. Terry never extended any apology And was MIA both times after i asked for additional assistance. He immediately went back in the garage and never came back out.
In addition on both visits, Terry does not call when the vehicle is ready to be picked up. On both occasions, I rode by the business several hours after i left it. The vehicle was moved to a different Parking spot than where I left it so I went in and on both occasions I was told oh I didn’t call you? I guess you want your vehicle back.
I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if I would’ve had real mechanical work done at the shop. I would Research and go to another shop if you’re thinking of taking your vehicle here!
Take your car somewhere else to get repair done . I took my car to them they said they fixed it but didn't did exactly the same thing after they returned the car . Would not return my money wanted more money to diagnose again.They had the car for almost a month! Would never return my calls then hung up on me when said I just wanted my car back. Came to get it was improperly stored they had rolled bad window down and car was full of water. Would not admit to rolling window down car has AC all windows up when dropped off.They have very expensive shop rate of 250 bucks a hour beware!!! They also seems marked up price of the part they said would fix my car by seems over 100%! They claim to do repairs right the first time is bullshit! They don't stand behind their work!!!!
Had a new receiver hitch added to my work truck. Other mechanic shops similar places in town had a 2 week waiting time. Terry's had me in and out in 2 days. Thanks
Needed a nail removed from my tire and a plug. I called ahead and they said to come in. 15min later I was there and 15more minutes then I was on my way. Very happy with the job done right and no run around.

I had an extended warranty and no one would work with the warranty. Saw that Terry did online and gave him a call. They fixed everything and filed with my warranty. I only had to pay for a few items. I highly recommend this shop. They shown integrity and honestly with any recommendation that needed to be completed.
I asked them to take a look at the A/C in my car, however, the process and price of taking a look at it was never brought to my attention. I picked up my car (without A/C) and was informed I was being charged $300 in labor for solely evaluating my A/C. I was later informed (by another mechanic) that is state law for mechanics to obtain a customer signature to approve work to be done >$100. Despite bringing my car to Terry’s for multiple years and spending thousands of dollars, Terry didn’t seem to care about his shady charges.
He is honest squeezed me in to look at my car reassured me about what was actually wrong with it and what needed to be done to fix the issue. This is a business you can trust and depend on that won’t tell you things are broke that don’t need fixing. Great prices and friendly people who are professional and put their customers first!
Super pleased so far! I had 2 different mechanics before Terry’s tell me they couldn’t figure out why my A/C wasn’t blowing cold in my Tahoe and wanted astronomical amounts of money to just replace the entire system. This place had my car for a few hours for more than half the price and picked it up blowing cold! I’m so happy, thanks so much!!!
I had an absolutely horrible experience at Terry’s Automotive and Quick Lube—I wouldn’t trust these guys to change a light bulb, let alone fix a car. I brought my vehicle in for a simple repair, and not only did they completely ignore the actual issue, but they also overcharged me for work I never asked for.
When I pointed out their mistake, instead of owning up to it, they had the audacity to try and charge me even more to fix what they were supposed to repair in the first place! So essentially, I paid them to make my car worse. The customer service was just as bad—rude, dismissive, and clearly only interested in squeezing as much money as possible out of people rather than doing honest work.
If you value your time, money, and sanity, avoid this place at all costs. They’re either completely incompetent or running a scam—either way, I won’t be coming back, and I suggest you don’t either.
Charged $300 to end up not fix a simple problem
I changed the brake fluid myself on my car, and when started it up I got a warning that said brake fluid level low. I figured it was just the sensor but had no way to test it or try to replace just the sensor, so I took it to Terry’s. They had my car for two weeks and did a “diagnosis” and another flush. None of this resolved the problem, so they said the next step would be to replace the ABS pump, which would be at least $1000, maybe more, I don’t remember exactly what they quoted. This is with no ABS error codes. So at that point I took the car back and brought it to my regular mechanic, and they fixed it in a matter of hours in between other jobs for $150. It was just the brake fluid level sensor… I called Terry back to try to get some of my money back since they charged me $300 and kept my car for two weeks to ultimately not fix a simple issue, and he tried to blame me saying I bled my brakes wrong, when my regular shop confirmed that I did it correctly, and that it was just the sensor. Will never be back, will tell everyone I know not to go to this place
If you take your vehicle anywhere else, you're wasting your time! Terry is the best in Gainesville. Very honest and incredibly knowledgeable. They take care of you like family! Best shop around! I won't take my vehicle anywhere else. Always appreciate you Terry!!!
I’m sure the mechanic may be great, but front desk is not. I was told to bring up there at 8am. When arrived stated it would be 2-3 hours. Asked multiple time for pricing & times when car would be ready (after 6 hours). He was very quick to hang up no information whatsoever. No assurance. Asked him direct questions after dropping the car off about the process and all he would say is “I’ll call you when it’s ready”. Asked when because I have to pick my child up and he replied “okay call you when ready” two times. Not sure where the disconnect was.
One and done for me with this place. Paid way more than what was quoted over the phone. Even 15% more than what the Genesis Dealership would have charged for an oil change. Slow, well over an hour wait. Uncomfortable chairs and waiting environment. Hardly any place to park my car. They splashed oil over the top of the engine.
Great and honest business! Spent some time with the owner waiting on my alignment and had great conversations! Dudes honest about what’s going on and doesn’t try to sell you on anything you wouldn’t need. Best alignment price in town I could find.
New to the area and heard that Terry's is a good mechanic shop...SO, when my car broke down, I took my car there. The person who was in line before me said he has been a customer since the 80's and another customer told me that they take great care of their customers. Long story short, they fixed my car and the price point was very reasonable as well...will definitely be back for my car care needs!
Went to Auto ER down the road for check engine and gas cap lights and was given an estimate of almost $700 to replace a vapor canister and filter. That place had my car for almost 2 days to figure out what was wrong. Went to Terry's for a second opinion and repairs, they found it was just a purge valve that needed replaced and was in and out in 2.5 hours for $250 with the lights fixed. Highly recommend, don't get scammed by those other guys down the road.
Mr. Terry seems like a gentleman and professional businessman. Got my engine replaced there under warranty and had it done quicker and cheaper and than anywhere else I tried in town. There was body damage done to my truck during the repair and when I pointed it out he immediately said to take it to the body shop and send him the bill. That is 5-star customer service.
I've been using Terry's for a while and I'm happy with the prompt service. Price is very reasonable. If something is under warranty, they take care of it with no problem. Good to know there are honest auto shops still around.
Very disappointed by the service here. Terry came highly recommended by coworkers, however I learned the hard way that his shop looks for the fastest fix not always the correct fix. Had a feeling I was being taken for a ride, so I sought outside opinions - validated by 3 other mechanics that the problem was not properly investigated the first time around, yet I still had to foot the bill.
So, I was in quite the bind. I was hearing a rattling sound and smelling something coming from my air vent when I would accelerate. I tried going to Walmart and called every other mechanic along Archer Rd and no one would see me. I called Terry and he told me to bring it in. He said that he would "make time" to see my car. I couldn't have had a better experience. Multiple mechanics checked out my car, they test drove it, and found the issue. They even showed me a less important issue with my car that I can fix at a later date. I was in and out in an hour and I couldn't be happier. I have to drive to Orlando on Thursday and I was terrified that I would have an expensive repair that would ruin my trip (or even keep me from getting to the airport). Neither was the case. I am very grateful to Terry for seeing me without an appointment, making time for me, and fixing my issue so fast. Thank you everyone! I told everyone where I work about you guys. You truly are the best.
Terry is very trustworthy. He is the only mechanic that I am willing to go to as a young woman in Gainesville. He is very direct about what the car needs and what can wait. His staff works very diligently under his direction, and it’s very clear that the goal of this business is to retain customers by giving them the best experience possible! I will definitely return :)
Terry’s did an amazing job with my car. I am a young woman, a college student at UF, and I’m often paranoid and nervous about car repairs as I’ve been taken advantage of by other car shops before. Terry’s has my business and I’d recommend them to anyone needing auto repairs. My A/C stopped blowing cold back in January of this year, I brought it in and they couldn’t find a leak so they recharged it and put in dye and told me to bring it back if it stops blowing cold. Now in May it stopped blowing cold again, I brought it in, they found the leak and repaired it. Phenomenal service, fair pricing, and completely transparent with what my car needed done & the cost. Seriously, I give them my highest recommendation. Thank you so so much Terry!
Not professional!!! Long story short. They had my car for 3 days. I had to call as soon as they opened for an update on the third day because the car was supposed to be ready on the second day. They said the part hadn’t come in yet and that it would be ready later that day. They call me to at 2pm to tell me the wrong part had been ordered and they would need my car at least another day. I told them that I am coming to pick it up and will have someone else fix the car. I get there, had to wait 45 minutes for my car to be ready. I get the correct part from the dealership only to find out they NEVER put the old part back in and the bolts are gone!!!!!! The old part and bolts could have at least been left in the passenger seat.
Terrible customer service and even worse craftsmanship. I went with a broken a/c and was charged $500 and it broke again after 12 hrs. I took my car back giving Terry the benefit of the doubt and he charged me another $500 and the air conditioning again broke within 12 hours. I kindly asked Terry to either fix the a/c as intended or give me 1/2 of my money back consistent with the warranty he gives on the back of the receipt. He denied my request and instead insulted me multiple times.
My brother also went to Terry when his car died and was given a similar bandaid treatment where the problem that was "fixed" returned within 24 hrs.
Overall, this business seems to thrive more on causing problems for your vehicle than fixing it. Terry is highly unprofessional and resorts to name calling when confronted instead of problem solving. I would not recommend this business to anyone.
Customer service is superb and you know you can trust Terry. He will tell you what really needs to be done and not do any work just to get your money. Hard to find a mechanic like that anymore. It’s pretty busy so be patient but who cares waiting a while in order to get peace of mind
Terry's Automotive was recommended to me by Discount Tires. Thankfully, I took the suggestion and went to the right place. The splash shield of my car at the bottom of the engine was broken and it was coming off. They took care of the problem right away. The best part is they didn't charge me any money for the service. I was really impressed by their service and generosity. Surely, Terry's Automotive will be my first choice if I face some new troubles with my car. Till then, probably the least I can do is write a good review about them and express satisfaction as a customer. :)
I'm not sure what some people are talking about in here. I have been coming to Terry's for a very long time and not once have I had a bad experience. Terry always recommends what's best for my car, and if it wasn't for him, I would have had to get a different car a long time ago. Prices are decent, but I value customer service more than anything, and for their customer service, I wouldn't mind paying a little extra if any! I highly recommend this family oriented shop. I have tried many shops in town, and Terry's tops them all, especially in their exceptional customer service!
