I’m so grateful for having found Billy’s Auto Repair & Towing in a moment of despair. I called them because our daughter’s vehicle died in a very dangerous and narrow road and it was blocking part of it. As soon as I called them without hesitation they told me they were going to take care of me ASAP. Before I knew it the tow truck showed up and in a matter of like 2 minutes he was already hauling the vehicle to the shop. Right away Ethan started communicating with me via phone keeping me posted and continued doing so throughout the entire service, which took about 48 hours total. In record time they had my daughter’s vehicle completely fixed and running. Billy’s Auto Repair & Towing literally took care of everything. I love the concept of the towing company also being the mechanic shop to get your vehicle back up and running. A very special thank you to Ethan for being such a gentleman and thoughtful throughout the entire service. Many blessing upon the entire Team! This place is the most honest shop in town. Also the nicest they drove me back home one time to help me out. They also always get the job done correctly and quickly without any fuss. Great place to go to.
I had my car towed to Billy's when it died nearby. They diagnosed the problem, finding it was covered under warranty. I was really impressed as they were extremely professional and friendly and honest. They will have my future business.
Billy's is an old school shop that is focused on getting you up and running and not on how much they can fit on an invoice. They will be my go to mechanic moving forward.
The Driver Nick did a very good job and to take people places and get the job done also. He is a very good worker very nice. He had taken me today to where I have to go and everything. He is always on time for everything. Billys is a good place to take your vehicle to get fixed. Nick always has a smile on his face and nice to people too. he is also good to ask questions and answering them too.
I walked into the shop during lunch and the gentleman in the office stopped what he was doing and took the time to look at my car AND show me exactly what was wrong. Every time I’ve had my car serviced the customer service has been outstanding. Will definitely be back. Thank you!!
Highly recommend Billy’s Auto Repair! I came in for a check engine light and they quickly diagnosed my issue so that I could feel safe before taking a roadtrip. I’m very inexperienced with cars, but Ethan explained everything in a clear way.

As a young female and college student, I felt so comfortable at Billy’s. He told me what was going on and the timeline for it and didn’t overcharge me. He also sent people to pick me up since I didn’t have my car and I felt very comfortable.
Sometimes you don’t realize the full value of a service until you no longer have it. I’ve been out of the US since May 2025, and I will say this: I miss good customer service—like the kind I received from Billy’s Auto Repairs just a week before my trip. I watched your team carefully tow my car and had a friendly interaction with my husband. After the service, Ethan called, and his voice over the phone sounded like it was a great pleasure for us to take care of your car. Nick at Bill's towing service was the best at the wreck I had on us 441. He was very helpful as he helped everyone there providing extra duck tape and being fast with getting the damaged car out of the scene. Nick was very polite and provided comfort in handling my car. Went in for a knock sensor issue and they were honest and helpful the whole time. They explained everything clearly and made me feel good about the advice they gave. Really trustworthy shop—I’ll definitely be back!
Update: I did eventually go back and for car repair this time. He did an awesome job! Reasonably priced and great work, he went above and beyond to make sure my old as heck van was functioning like it just came out of the dealership.
Original review: A seriously nice guy. I needed help and posted on Facebook's Gainesville Word of Mouth group and he responded that he could. He totally came through for me and I appreciate that he did. He's a busy guy bcz he and his family and friends run a the business. That he took the time and resources meant everything to me. My tire blew out in front of Walmart automotive 4 minutes after they closed on the Friday night of a 3 day weekend. One of their workers suggested I call Billy’s. I am SO glad I did. The tow truck arrived before he said he would! The driver (Bobby) was kind, polite, and put me totally at ease. Billy’s replaced all 4 tires, and repaired my driver seat, tail light, and brakes for an incredibly reasonable price. Ethan stayed in communication with me and was totally transparent about everything throughout the whole process. My car drives better than it has in some time. I am so pleased to have found them! I’m a new fan and will be a loyal customer.
My car had suspension issues, and Billy's was the first place that diagnosed the problem properly, and didn't charge me for the inspection. Nobody likes going to the mechanic, but if I have to, this will be the place to go.

I’ve dealt with a lot of mechanics over the years and even work on cars myself, so I’ve seen firsthand how many shops try to upsell unnecessary services. That’s why Billy’s Auto Mechanics stood out to me. When I spoke to Billy, I felt like I was talking to a friend—someone who genuinely cared about what was going on with my car rather. They were honest, straightforward, and did what was best for my situation. In a world full of mechanics looking to upsell, Billy’s is a rare gem. I’ll definitely be coming back here from now on.
Although they were very polite, it was disappointing how extremely expensive it was. My wife and 2 daughters were in Gainesville for a tour of UF, when the alternator belt of their 2009 Honda CRX broke leaving them stranded on the side of the road and away from home. Since they were just a couple of miles away from this shop, they had no other real alternative but to take it there on a tow truck. Once there, they had to pay the amount quoted because the CRX could not be driven anywhere before being repaired. Normally this belt replacement job goes for between $160 to $200 plus tax. However, the amount that they charged was $350 plus tax, which seems extremely steep. I told my wife to go ahead and pay for the repairs despite feeling extremely disappointed that, they seem to be taking advantage of 3 out of town ladies with no transportation. Sadly, although my daughter will be attending UF in the fall, this mechanic shop failed to show us that they could be a place for her to do future repairs while living in Gainesville. Maybe ownership could explain the situation and why it was so extremely overpriced, and thus, regain our trust in this particular business... Cleaning an area to fit a belt, not fixing anything else but the belt while not making any determination of where the leak was coming from, is by definition a belt replacement job. The CRX is back at our hometown shop getting the small leak fixed, and we can see exactly what was repaired at your shop. The negative review was not based on lack of info as you have now replied. It was based on the fact that anyone can clearly see the extremely steep price for the work. At the end, the belt worked to get them back home so in spite of my disappointment with the price that was paid, the mechanic shop did their job and got paid what was quoted under the conditions. My engine was having serious trouble and I was having difficulty getting answers. Billy's fit me in to diagnose the issue and was able to get the dealership parts my car needed to do the repair. It was a multifaceted problem that took some time to fix and Billy and his team made it happen. I was also very appreciative in how thorough Billy was explaining the problem each step of the way, talking me through the options, and giving fantastic advice. Him and his team even found and fixed one of the symptoms I had forgotten to mention when I brought it in. So impressed!

I am so grateful to have found Billy’s! I was traveling through Gainesville in my motorhome and needed to replace my windshield wipers, but didn’t have the right tools to do the job myself. I called and spoke to the owner who said to come to the shop and he would have a look. Even though they were busy and the wipers were fiddly, he installed them right away. Thank you so much for your kindness!
The staff thought it would take a couple days to look at my car given how busy it was, and they called me later the same day. After asking them for advice on whether it would be cheaper to do some repairs myself (battery change) they were honest in saying I could save money by doing it independently. I respect both their help in looking at my car and their integrity in dealing with me. This is my second time using their services, and I’ll be going back the next time my car has more serious trouble.
When my car needed a tow, I was lucky enough to find Billy’s Towing Service. The woman on the phone was so helpful, even though I was at a loss of what to do. She had a tow truck out to me in 10 minutes. I was then lucky again to get Nick, the tow truck driver. He was so courteous, and looked out for my safety on the road, making sure I was out of traffic and away from the tow truck while he put my car on the flatbed. He was also super careful with my car, going out of his way to ensure he didn’t cause any more damage to the vehicle than it already had, as he got it onto the truck. The entire time, I felt safe, protected and respected. As a single woman with a broken down car, I felt I was in great hands with Nick, who even opened doors for me and made sure I knew everything I needed to know pertaining to the process. I can only hope that for whomever is reading this, you’re smart enough to call Billy’s Towing Service first, and lucky enough to get Nick as your tow truck driver. He made a really bad experience for me so much better, just by helping everything to go smoothly, and I’m extremely grateful.
Meant to post this awhile back but life got away from me. I had an issue with my car’s AC beginning of this year and we brought it here. We tried something small to try and fix it but about 4 months later the same issue arose and Billy saw the car again no charge. He was very honest about not finding the leak in my AC and added dye and recharged the AC at no charge and told me to bring it back if it happens again. I appreciate the step-wise approach to finding out the issue and not pushing to do unnecessary or expensive repairs that may or may not work. I appreciate the honesty and the willingness to work with me if the issue continues happening. Great communication and a great local business to support in Gainesville!
I wish I could give more than five stars. About a month ago, I needed to replace my tires. On the day the service was scheduled, I had an unexpected meeting. I talked to Billy, and he towed my car from where I live. In the afternoon, I texted him asking if I could pay over the phone so I would not wait when I pick up my car, and he replied, « I delivered it back to your parking spot and put the keys in the same spot.» I could not believe it. As a mom of a 10-month-old toddler, this was a great help and relief. The traffic was terrible that day because of students moving in, and I worried I would not get to the daycare on time. I felt understood, cared for, and loved. On top of all that, he did not charge me for the towing.
If, like me, you are a busy parent and have anxiety about going to your local car dealership because you do not trust them, I strongly recommend Billy’s Auto Repair and Towing. He is reliable and professional. You will get the best service that will save you money.

Amazing experience. Another auto place told me I needed to replace breaks. My wife started hearing noises with brakes so I took it in to Billy expecting we needed to pay up. Billy looked at it and told me brakes still had a lot of life but the noises were actually the suspension. It would be an expensive fix too but that it wasn't a safety issue as of now, just a noise issue. The car is at 200k so he said there would be more and more issues so was recommending looking at trying to replace the van for the long term. So appreciate his honesty. And he didn't even charge anything! I'll be back here whenever we have issues from now on.
Robbie was awesome! He managed to back my jet ski into a spot while still connected to my dead Tesla. And then shoe horned my car into charging spot. The rates were very reasonable.

Radiator fan failure left me stranded in a town I haven't lived in since the 80s. Billy's towed in my car (flatbed), diagnosed and did the repairs at a better than fair price.

So I just bought this conversion van in southern Florida. And I'm gonna drive it back to Appleton WI. Van was running like a champ and then. Boom. It shut off. I called Billy's auto repair. They came over with there brand new roll back. Loaded up me and the van. Took us to their shop. The driver had called ahead so there were 2 mechanics waiting to get rite on my van. Within an hour they had me back on the road again. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE. Thank you guys. .
