I was skeptical going here because of the reviews. Not sure if they are under new ownership or what but I had a great experience. Their scale was accurate when compared to my scale at home. They paid me more per pound for copper than the two other scrap yards I called the same day. They properly categorized my #1 and #2 copper. I would definitely go back to John's Scrap Metal.
If I could give zero stars I would. They are scammers!! Don’t show you the weight and then try to mess with the pricing and pay you for lesser “quality “ of metals or copper. And this wasn’t just a one time occurrence I tried to go back hoping it was a mistake but after 3times of getting scammed on prices I’m done! They try to say “high grade copper” or “low grade copper” I asked what determines the difference and the guy said purity so I looked up the purity of the copper I was turning in and it far exceeded what he said was “high grade” and still paid me for “low grade” which is already not how the pricing works at any other scrap yard. Scammers and crooks! I will tell everyone I know to not go here and why
Brought a bunch of brass and copper scrap in five gallon buckets, he went out of his way to make sure every bucket wasn’t entirely on the scale to get a true weight, scam would never bring scrap here again
John, I’m not sure why you thought it was appropriate to trespass on private property ignoring our multiple “NO TRESPASSING” and “KEEP OUT” signs to screw your business advertisement without asking us for permission. You literally put your sign on our tree that had a “KEEP OUT” sign posted on it. If you can’t understand the point of these signs let this serve as your second written warning to not trespass on private property. If you continue to do so we will call the authorities and have you sited for trespassing. This is not a good way to start a business in this community. I would highly suggest the residents of Columbia take their business elsewhere to someone who actually has morals and respect for the people of this community. Shame on you.
Lowest prices paid for stainless steel, electric motors, brass car radiators, sealed unit compressors and insulated wire hands down, do not bring these items here unless you want the sandy vaseline treatment
They apparently just reopened a couple of weeks ago. I guess they should be fully functioning with a scale sometime this month.
I called ahead and had a couple questions. I spoke to a woman who was pleasant and she gave me the information I needed.
When I got there, a man named Jeff helped me out. Gave me some insight on how to separate my scrap for next time. Smooth experience.
It’s a scrap yard. Lots of stuff moving about. Machines that can easily gravely injure you. Follow common sense and it’s a great place to get cash for junk. Be nice and pay attention. Don’t block the way. Never talk down to the help, Big John hates that and I commend him for that. These guys work hard.
Big John is a hothead ready to flip out for any little thing, small misunderstanding and he tells me never to come back. Some people just think they own the world and can do no wrong
