I like the place, everybody is friendly. However they don't understand communication. No notice that they will be closed on Google or Facebook. In fact google says open. This is easy on fb just post "we will be closed July 4-7 2024." I now have to take thousands of pounds of material back out of my truck in order to not derail my entire weekend. Everybody deserves a holiday just tell your customers.

-Best Scrap Yard I’ve Ever Visited- I’ve been dealing with scrap yards my whole life and usually don’t look forward to it. I heard good things about Calamari’s and brought a big trailer full of mixed metals there recently. I called ahead and spoke with a very kind employee in the office who explained their procedures. When I arrived they weighed me in and again was very kind and pleasant to deal with. I had many different types of metal on my trailer (Lead, copper, aluminum, steel) and they patiently explained where to go and how to get weighed in at various places in the yard. Helpful employees then helped us unload and get weighed in. The guy running the crane was kind enough to unload my trailer with two sweeps of his enormous electro-magnet, saving me at least 20 min. of unload time! Overall I was seriously impressed by Calamari’s- The place was organized, clean, and very user friendly- Their employees where very nice to work with (which generally isn’t the case with typical scrap yards). They run a fair operation- they paid me a very fair sum for my various metals. They also suggested that I would be allowed to purchase any metal from the scrap yard which sounded like a very exciting thought for future DIY projects.

They don’t understand copper wire. I brought in clean THHN wire. Smallest was 12 gauge biggest was 8gauge but all THHN. They put me in a copper 3 category. Which means lowest quality or double insulated wire. It should have been priced at #1 insulated wire for it was all clean and bigger than 16 gauge wire and no sheathing. Also they tried telling me it was because my wire wasn’t big enough which makes no sense copper is copper you go by weight. They then said it was for recovery but that goes into the category you put me in. Which should have been #1 insulated wire not #3 copper which I’ve never seen before this. Been scraping for over 10 years. They stole 1 dollar per pound. Which I got 100 so they pocketed another 100. I researched and everywhere else gives 2.5 for #1 insulated wire or THHN DO NOT SCRAPE WIRE HERE. If calamari can explain to me how I’m wrong I’ll gladly take this down.

Would never use again brought in 50 pounds of clean and dirty brass in a bucket, didn't even let me sort it and gave me iron brass price of 30 cents instead of the 2 dollars it should be that's 100 dollars rip off ridiculous

We disassembled a 3,000 square foot warehouse of steel racking. Calamari Recycling spotted us two 30 yard roll offs, about a week a part, which we filled. Service was prompt, professional and seamless.

I had a heat treat oven that I was taking up space in our shop, I reached out to Calimari's and they had a truck that was empty, so they asked if we had any other scrap metal / machinery we would liked removed, and we filled that panel truck up when they came, driver was totally professional I wish I had more to get ride of, thanks for the help

This place runs adds all over the country for accepting recycling materials "in Connecticut". Seems very unethical and suspicious. Legitimate recycling doesn't have to cross state lines.

They are 30 miles from me but pay so much better than CT scrap who has been using fudgey math lately to make everything an even $ amount, the drop off for Calamari goes over a hill, much better than backing into the pile resulting in more flat tires
