This place rocks! Stopped by on my way to Skijoring in Ridgway last weekend. The staff was so friendly! The food was so delicious! I got their pulled pork breakfast wrap (daybreak I think it’s called). I’m still thinking about it. I will be bringing my family and friends when they come visit.
Stopped in here for some coffee while passing through to Telluride… boy, I am glad we did! The coffee was very smooth and not bitter at all… the barista also recommended a Southwest style breakfast burrito that was super tasty and loaded. Highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area and hungry.
We stopped in and had a quick lunch. We had the pulled pork and baked beans. Highly recommend this place! It’s very local, the food is excellent, reasonably priced and the proprietors are awesome!
I always look forward to driving through Saw Pit so we can stop at this market! The folks that run this place day to day very kind! BTW, coffee cake is great!

Hark! Gather round, ye weary travelers, for I have discovered a banquet most divine, tucked humbly in the heart of Sawpit. Verily, the barbecue here doth transcend mortal meat; it is juicy as Juliet’s first kiss and smoketh like Macbeth’s cursed cauldron. A single bite and I did swear the angels themselves were basting ribs in Heaven’s pit.
Lo, the cookies! Round and golden, sweet enough to turn even the bitterest villain into a swooning lover. And the Zyns, aye, they overflow like coin in a king’s treasury, enough to sate any weary knight who hath jousted too long with the demons of nicotine withdrawal.
But what most stirreth my heart are the employees. They are not mere merchants, nay, but emotional support in human form. Their kindness shineth brighter than Romeo’s devotion, their care dost warm the soul as surely as their Mac n cheese warms the belly.
In sooth, Sawpit Mercantile is no common store. It is a stage where flavor becometh poetry, where comfort floweth like ale, and where even the roughest wanderer may find himself weeping with joy over a simple sandwich. I shall return anon, lest I be haunted by dreams of meat and cookies.
I stopped here on a recommendation. When I stopped in, I stood there at the counter and nobody waited on me and nobody acknowledged me. I walked around to make sure that they saw that I was there. Nobody else was there so they weren’t busy. Two people were talking their personal business so I guess too busy to wait on me so I left and I won’t be back.
Wonderful friendly employees, especially the helpful barista who took the time to share a bit about the area while she crafted my delicious oat milk latte. The coffee was the best I’ve had on this trip. The store features unique local items and a great selection of snacks. I hope to be back.
Do not miss this place! It was our favorite meal during our 8 day trip in the area, and I would easily drive an hour each way to eat here again. We had ribs, elk bratwurst, pulled pork sandwich and macaroni. Everything was amazing! Service was friendly and we enjoyed the patio out back on a gorgeous summer day. We can’t wait to return to Sawpit!
The food is AMAZING! The croissant is the best I’ve ever had. They should be world famous!! Wish I could’ve taken a picture but I ate it too fast. Worth the visit for a quick stop before an adventure
5 Star business all around! What a gem set in the perfect place! I stopped in for the Ribs and was delighted by everything I found. The ribs were fantastic! They weren't the "meat between the bones" baby backs I was expecting, these were thick and meaty bones of baby back pork rib heaven cooked just right! As a side I ordered the half mac snack with pork, a perfect combination of smoked pork and homemade cheesy goodness! I paired my meal with a taste of both of their delicious house made sauces and I was in BBQ heaven. The icing on the cake for me though was that the prices were more than fair (especially for Telluride!) and the view of the river from the back deck made it the perfect Colorado meal experience. Make the drive from Telluride or hit on on your way in and out, but be sure not to miss it!

Originally only stopped to use their very nice restroom, but the tasty aroma of their food caught my interest, and I couldn't be happier that it did.
Awesome spot and love the new owners! They’ve done a phenomenal job updating the premises and selections while maintaining the charm. I’m especially glad they now carry groceries such as eggs, milk, cheese, bread, pasta, etc. Definitely worth a stop for both locals and travelers. And don’t forget to try the pulled pork!
We stopped here several times when we camped outside Telluride. The menu is simple, but the food is good and the owners love what they do. Don't drive by; stop here.
Delicious pulled pork and cole slaw! It's a nice location with a patio overlooking a stream out back to eat. The owners are extremely kind and friendly people.
Been stopping in here for 3 years now, great spot to pick up snacks, fill up the tank (or grab gas for the toys). They make some excellent barbecue and I personally enjoy the frito pie. The people are always super friendly too!
I just stopped here because I was starving and had seen the BBQ sign. Was not expecting much. This food is AMAZING!! I wish I lived closer. I will come back. Got the combo with a pulled pork sandwich, potato salad and baked beans. Everything was fantastic. 10/10 recommend
This place had a surprisingly large menu. The staff was friendly and the pulled pork was fantastic! I will definitely eat here again when I am back in the area.
