Such a great place to eat. Alison is definitely the best! But the bartenders are always friendly and your drinks are never empty, the chefs make exceptional food in record time and amounts, the servers are always smiling always running around. Absolutely phenomenal restaurant.

Get the Baja fish tacos. They’re incredible and definitely one of the best I’ve ever had

The staff at this place were beyond rude and seemed inconvenienced by having to seat us and give us a menu. No one acknowledged us when we walked in until I asked about being sat. The food was pretty decent but not worth the service. Our server Nenad was the only saving grace as he was very kind and polite.

Wonderful stop, off the hike/bike trail. Excellent service, food and fun. Perfect hideaway from snooty aspen. Friends gather here..

Ask Dave the bartender for the Scanlon sized Margarita. Chicken tortillas soup will heal you. Burgers are large and sumptuous.

Fun place and good food! The parking lot has a spot for “horses only.” Pretty sweet! There were 2 saddles horse in the parking lot when we pulled up. Food pretty good! Wings good, the Philly cheese steak was incredible!!!!!

We enjoyed a lovely bike ride down to this cute spot and had to wait awhile for a table. The hostess was an older tall woman (mid 50’s?) who was snippy and condescending. Can we say power trip? I thought it was just us but we watched her treat almost every customer that way- not inviting! We almost left but glad we didn’t. Our server Ned made it all better! The food was delicious and margaritas to remember. Decently priced menu especially for this area and good music! We will come back and just hope management figures out that lady needs to go.

Excellent. However, put off by being charged $6 to substitute for fries and only got 3 onion rings. Discouraged.

They have tajin. Just won’t serve it with margaritas because it will mess up their dishwasher somehow. Listen man, I lick every last grain of tajin off of my margs so hand it over. ?? but the food was great. Especially the tajin watermelon salad 10/10.

We had the cheesesteak and it was very good. Grilled onions were tasty on there. Good beer selection. Inside is trippy. Is you ask, they will take your pic with the Polaroid so you can be immortalized on the wall.

Busy place! The wait is 30-40 minutes during lunchtime, but tables are available on the patio. Ask for seats at the bar (no wait). We had nachos and street corn. The nachos are a meal on their own. Highly recommended!

Hole in the wall with history. Good was so good I forgot to take pictures. Drinks were awesome too. Service with amazing. Thank you Tom. Can’t wait to go back and try more menu options.

This was an amazing lunch - I had the chicken enchiladas paired with the Mexican style street corn and then we had cornbread for dessert - I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want to have a place to hang out and chill

We went to pay homage to the patron saint of Woody Creek. Had a couple of barley pops and an Irish whisky. We were lucky enough to swap some stories with a handful of the locals. They were friendly and an engaging group. Food I hear is really good too!

Came up to Aspen with friends. Stayed with a friend from Aspen. He brought the group here for some local color and flare. What a great piece of history. The staff was awesome. The food was good. What a great place to stop in and enjoy the local flare. You must stop in.

Great lunch spot on a sunny day. Wait times can be 30-45 minutes for outdoor seats but the inside seats have just as much atmosphere. Recommend the BLT, a cold Coors Light, and some guacamole. Makes for a great lunch. But you are in Aspen so they also have a seafood tower if you’re in the mood!

We went there because it was Hunter's old watering hole. We showed up on a Friday evening and sat at the bar. The food was amazing, as was our bartender! She rocked that entire bar by herself and took amazing care of every single person at the bar. We were so impressed with the food and service on such a busy weekend night that we came back for lunch the next morning as soon as they opened. She recognized us sitting outside, and came out to make sure we were being taken care of. Such an awesome experience!

Absolutely loved this gem. Had the best time chatting it up with Craig. Also… also… not photographed but the salsa is the best salsa I’ve ever had and I’m from Texas so I’ve tried about 500. Excellent quality ingredients. Service was above and beyond down to chaotic volume control requests as our favorite 90’s country songs came on. Oh and… big fan of the ladies in the bathroom ?

We had the chance to eat outside (but we had to wait a little more for this place). Food was good, service was quick. The soupe was really excellent and bacon was awesome. The homemade ice cream dessert was delicious!

Great service and atmosphere, reasonably priced, food overall good. 3.5⭐️ A couple improvements: nachos get pretty soggy before you can finish them and toppings unevenly distributed. Consider serving another way. And the burger was a little red for my liking - would recommend asking doneness preference.

Updated review after new management. Overpriced for inconsistent quality! Service was still good. Ordered guacamole to start, no salt on chips or guacamole making it very bland. Mexican street corn was also bland and underwhelming. Fried chicken and burger were good though! Considering the simple menu items were disappointing I would not return to try the higher priced items like lobster roll or ceviche.

Getting to Woody Creek Tavern is a trip. The road is not Independence Pass. But its twisty, turny. You cross a tiny bridge across the Roaring Fork River. But that's half the charm, right? Woody Creek is an elegant enclave deep in the mountains surrounding Aspen. The Wood Creek Tavern opened in 1980 so the neighbors didn't have to drive into town for a drink. One of the most famous neighbors was Hunter S. Thompson. He decamped at the Tavern most days. Well, the bar at the tavern. Today it's a favorite of mountain bikers. They are dozens of bikes parked across the street; they have their own parking space. The food has Aspen price tags but is outstanding. We ate a Philly cheese steak sandwich that was as good as anything we sampled in Philadelphia. (My son Austin lived there for years so we know this delicacy.) My favorite was the famed bison burger. It was as big as a, well, bison. A huge knife held the dill pickle in place. I needed the knife to cut the burger in two because my hands weren't large enough. Bison is just as tasty, juicy as beef but without the fat. I am now a convert. Don't miss the fried chicken. The skin has a honey spicy breading that gleams when the pieces arrive. This glaze locked in the juices because the breast was sweet and juicy. We started with guac and chips. Both are homemade right there. Yes, Wood Tavern bakes its own chips. Crispy and salty and multi-colored. The menu is limited but that was OK with us. The wine list was interesting. Some of the most famous champagnes are on the list. Not your usual bar food liquor but hey this is Aspen. The bar is always busy. It's worth the driving to visit the dining room. The decor is total Polaroid. (I remember those cameras. Do you younguns know what it is?) The walls are jammed with Polaroids of customers probably taken in the 1980s. We looked around our table and there was John Legend above my head. Parking is a challenge since there's not much room. I advise going early or late. If you are tired of the Aspen hauteur and want a great, down home meal in the mountains, buckle up and white knuckle it to Wood Creek Tavern.

The Woody Creek Tavern is a famous bar and restaurant located near Aspen, Colorado. Best known to be frequented by the author Hunter S. Thompson, the Woody Creek Tavern is now visited by tourists and locals alike, and when I visited this past Thursday at 1.15pm, it was packed. Parking is free across the street along the road, and there were TONS of bicycles parked in their bicycle parking area. In fact, many guests stop in for lunch during their bike ride, which is super cool. There was a 15-minute wait for an inside table and a much longer wait for the sought-after patio. If you need to kill some time waiting, there is a store next door to the restaurant where you can peruse mountain apparel. We decided to sit inside, which was bustling with families and guests crowded into the kitschy interior. Service was fast and friendly, and the food was what you would expect for refined bar fare. We began with chips and salsa and guacamole. Unfortunately, some of the tortilla chips were soggy with too much oil, and we had to ask for some more chips (which the server was very friendly about). For our entrees, we had the Philly Cheesesteak, the Blue Cheese Burger and the Fried Chicken along with a side of fries. The Philly Cheesesteak tasted just like the world-famous Pat's in Philadelphia, with the perfect melting together of cheese, meat and bread. The Blue Cheese burger was also very good, but I thought the blue cheese taste overwhelmed the taste of the burger, which is totally fine if you are a big fan of blue cheese. My fried chicken came with a breast and two small wings and was coated with local honey and a chili-style powder making it sweet and spicy. Overall, I thought the vibe was fun and the food tasty, but I thought that the prices were a little steep for what it was (although it is Aspen, so I understand). Also, the fact that our appetizer was not great because of the tortilla chips is what makes me give Woody Creek Tavern 4 stars instead of 5. All in all, if you are a big fan of divey-style bars with great history or are a fan of Hunter S. Thompson, you should definitely check out Woody Creek Tavern. Just don't expect a world-class dining experience, and you won't be disappointed.

This is as close as one will find to a house of worship for a Hunter S Thompson fan in Aspen. Aspen should have a bronze replica of HST hitting a 1 iron, and Woody Creek (which is as small and eclectic as you want it to be) should have HST walking tours, but no. We just have Woody Creek Tavern. Great pics and HST memorabilia! Great burger! NO SWAG?!?!? I’m still shocked.

Super cool place with a very unique setting. I got the famous burger, while my fiance got the lamb stew, which was under the radar the best thing on the menu. The burger was great, but the lamb stew was even better. Follow my Google profile for more reviews!

The remodeled Woody Creek Tavern is even more awesome than before! The fastest service we’ve ever received - the food arrived within less than 10 minutes of ordering it. A very laid back and fun place. The prices have gone up like everywhere. Still an affordable restaurant for the Aspen area. I’m originally from Eastern Europe (15 years in Aspen) and they made me the strongest vodka and soda cocktail I’ve ever had - that’s called customer service ? You can make a reservation online - check their web site for availability. It’s a busy restaurant and you might not find a table without an advance reservation. If you’re lodging is in downtown Aspen - the taxi ride is totally worth it. There are almost no affordable places left in Aspen, and this is a good choice, the drive/taxi ride is about 20 minutes.

This place is awesome, I was in town from Maryland and had an awesome dinner with great service. The atmosphere was awesome inside, it had a very hidden hole in the wall bar feel but the food was outstanding. The chicken enchiladas were delicious and they even had oysters on the half shell from Canada, what a treat! We had the caramel fudge brownie for dessert and it might have been the best brownie I have ever had in my entire life.

Just an average little bar and restaurant with a more than average past. Memorabilia on the walls along with thousands of Polaroid pictures of guests past. Food was good but nothing to make a special trip out for, you're coming for the attraction and so is everyone else. Drive respectfully in town and be prepared for a line of Aspen tourist and bicyclists. I got in without a wait and they were quick despite being busy. A large group should plan to wait.

I gave this place 3 stars because they didn’t even cook my burger. Served me raw meat. Could have been much better. Place is small, has a small parking lot across the street and is frequented by motorcycles, bicyclists and hikers. CASH ONLY- they do NOT accept credit cards
