Total scam. Have spent 1000s over past few years on policy. First time made a claim, very minimal claim at that for a water pump. Told inspector had to come out and look at car. Every day, inspector doesn't show. Every day, Im told inspector will be there. Told today they don't guarantee when he can get there, nothing I can do but wait, and oh yeah, not a supervisor or anyone I can talk to. Basically they've been taking my money and now when it's time to do what they've promised Im out of luck. Run, dont walk from dealing with them.

Do Not use American Autoshield/AAS. If I can give AAS a zero, I would: horrible company policies, they do month-to-month contracts only, they do NOT pay for covered repairs, you are not allowed to ever talk to the adjuster, the repair shop cannot get a hold of him/her either. You have No way to communicate w AAS - only by calling on the phone, waiting for 5+ minutes each time and Cannot talk to supervisor, they do Not provide you e-mail, No website contact either. AAS does NOT pay for rental car (for the max allowed week) during claim, but they want you to pay out of pocket and submit receipts to reimburse you (which they did, but takes at least a month after return f the rental car). The AAS-PARTS-sourcing is the WORST - they only pay MSRP at prices from 6 years ago, but parts prices have gone up so much. When they pay for a claim, they PASS the difference between their approved msrp and the market price for the part to YOU (hundreds if not thousands of $$$) on TOP of your deductible. So, now 5+ weeks after filing our claim - our (ONLY) vehicle is still NOT REPAIRED AND AAS CANNOT FIND THE PART AND REFUSES TO BE FLEXABLE IN part-SOURCING (we found the part online, but AAS refuses to use anyone but their own sources), NOR do they increase the $$alowance. The latest - AAS want the repair shop to find the part at ridiculously-low msrp price, which is impossible and so at msrp price the ETA IS 3 MONTHS TO AN YEAR from today, IF the adjuster ever talks to the repair shop and IF THE PART EVER GETS ORDERED (WE OFFERED TO ORDER THE PART OURSELVES AND TO PAY FOR LABOR, BUT AAS SAID THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE US). THIS IS ONLY OUR 2nd CLAIM since we bought this warranty policies (15 months ago @$275/month !!! ) Most of their customer service agents are however knowledgeable and helpful, but their hands (and probably the adjuster’s) are tied with bad company policies. Stay away,.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY . They will try everything in their power to deny your claim . I just recently started a warranty with this scamming company , it seems like you pay for a warranty and you are the only one paying out money . I first inquired about warranty coverage on line and as soon as I did I started receiving phone calls and at that point I did not take their warranty , but this was about 5 days before they finally wore me down and convinced me it was a great deal and the best warranty to move forward with , bc after about 25/30 missed calls in just about 4 or 5 days I should of known better . So here we are just my luck about a month after having the warranty my transmission started acting funny so I did exactly what they said and pulled over and parked my vehicle immediately to avoid further damage , and had it towed to a transmission service center as soon as I could . The service center filed a claim on my behalf and first they wanted to ask questions which is fine and expected to understand what the issue was and what was happening , then they wanted my service records and at that time I sent them over to them , they also did a independent inspection , so I figured we were moving forward NOPE . Now they contacted me and wanted my towing invoice and I sent that as well , now they are claiming they suspect I was sitting on the warranty as in I was trying to scam them and I told the representative who started my warranty that I was willing to go to my vehicle and take a photo date and time stamped and email it over and he said there was no need , so forward a month or so and about 2,000 miles later I’m still being asked questions and they are trying to deny my claim just bc of what their adjuster suspects , which is not very professional at all . I’ve driven the vehicle just about 2,000 miles bc I drive about 84 miles a day back and forth for work in which I explained that to them and it was not a issue . So now my vehicle is still sitting there the adjuster got snippy with the manager of the transmission company and hung up on him so at this point I’m just going to contact a attorney and see if and what I can do about this bc this company is full of scammers and liars and if I had read the reviews before getting into a contract I would have avoided them at all costs bc all they do is take your money and do not pay out for any repairs and do whatever they can to try and find something to have a reason to deny your claim . I am cancelling this warranty and going to a more reputable professional company who doesn’t lie and scam and just take your money bc you are expecting them to honor their part in which they don’t . So my advice STAY AWAY STAY AWAY STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU JUST HAVE THE MONEY TO THROW AWAY EVERY MONTH . Worst warranty company ever . It’s actually carshield I found out bc they had too many class action lawsuits and people calling the better business bureau and complaining and at this point contacting a attorney and having him go after them and calling the better business bureau is where I’m at as well . If you are looking or attempting to use this company as a warranty company to have a piece of mind please read all the reviews first bc I don’t think you will find one good review .

Last claim representative I spoke to she represented American auto shield exactly the way it is trashy and filthy company like her filthy mouth was speaking to me and degrading me the way she did, yeah I was not happy calling them again and again to pay for my vehicle repair but she was extremely nasty person . stealing our money every month and offer nothing but nervous breakdown to its customers . The last two claims it took them almost two months to approve each claim two separate times and claims .I’m a Uber driver and each day I don’t have my vehicle to work it cost me so much money . this third claim auto shield kept saying the adjuster can’t reach the repair shop “Just excuse” I cancelled my policy because they were about to give me another nervous breakdown again and back and forth . They didn’t want to pay to fix my vehicle again I really don’t have time to wait another two months or so sitting home . I will pay for it out of pocket of almost $7,000 I will get a personal loan to fix my vehicle. shame on American auto shield . They are the worst. costing me so much money of a very long downtime. auto shield I hope they get punished by almighty God for what they did to me and so many of their customers my last claim number with them is 3903739 .

I came here to put a good review on an experience I just had, then after reading current reviews, I feel I need to add this first: I work in the automotive industry and work with American Auto Shield often (as well as many other extended warranty companies). In general, extended warranty companies want to minimize the pay out; this isn't an issue with just this one, it's all of them. Consumers - read the fine print before you start a contract & Shops - You have the option to refuse them sending you parts, they'll just authorize the amount they would have spent on what they found. My experience today: I got a call from a guest regarding repairs already completed and paid for, to tell me he has this contract. Typically, once repairs are done, there is no way to get authorization/ payment for the work done. We called American Auto Shield anyways to do our due diligence. I spoke with Aurora and not only did he work with me on getting a portion of the repairs covered for the guest, he was great to talk to. Instead of long, boring, silent pauses while entering information, we shared 'horror' stories about other experiences we've had with the other side and discussed common misconceptions about the process from both sides and from guest perspective. I can't speak for consumers, but as an employee in the automotive repair industry, American Auto Shield has a good impression in my memory. Thank you for being so friendly, Aurora. You were great!!

Avoid American Auto Shield – A Nightmare for Repair Shops and Vehicle Owners We are a licensed repair facility based in Michigan, currently servicing a vehicle covered under an American Auto Shield warranty. This company has been by far one of the most difficult and misleading providers we've ever had to deal with. Here are the major issues we've encountered: Used Engine with 143,000 Miles: Instead of authorizing a proper engine replacement, they approved a used engine with over 143,000 miles. This is completely unacceptable and not in line with industry standards — let alone customer expectations. Misleading Coverage: The coverage is not what it appears. Several components that should be included in a major repair are not covered, leaving the customer to pay out-of-pocket. No Tax Coverage: They do not pay sales tax on parts, meaning the customer is stuck footing that bill, too. Delays and Lies: The car has been sitting at our shop for over a month. We were told the engine would ship promptly, but now they’re saying it will be another 7 days. Additionally, two different representatives gave misleading or outright false information to both our shop and the customer. This is not just a poor customer experience — it’s borderline unethical business practice. We strongly recommend reading the fine print before signing anything with this company. Better yet, avoid them altogether. Pay out of pocket if you can — you’ll likely save time, money, and frustration in the long run. A class action lawsuit seems not only appropriate, but necessary.

Miserable for shops to endure. We have HOURS in time by sales staff waiting on hold, bounced from person to person, disconnected (accident ? Nah) plus time sitting on a call while they complete their work. Not surprisingly, they only want to pay for mechanics work time, but not sales staff. They nit pick what parts, and generally do EVERYTHING they can to pay as little as possible. I am sure some sales rep at a dealer made you think it was super duper coverage, but they are generally miserable and not an asset to the automotive community.

BUYER BEWARE......Took car to the dealership to get diagnosed and to have service invoice wrote up and submitted. It was valve body sensor in transmission which is covered. So i told subaru to do the work as it is my daily driver only to find that this warranty uses this to their advantage as loop to get out of paying for the legitimate services that have been paid for up front in full. The car is a daily driver for work and I'm aware the factory dealership/service department is not a storage facility. Its been 8 days now and have been denied the claim because who has that kind time to losewith out car. If I knew this is how a local company looks out for the community around i would have never purchased this warranty... for the cost of warranty was same as repairs needed.. Plus had i known i was going to be the one paying out of pocket i could have had my car back 8 days ago.. I will be going to dealership that sold this warranty as well as better business bureau to raise awareness regarding this companies business tactics.

Purchased the warranty. Car engine was having issues, I called car sheild to report and learn process, the representative told me if I can drive the car to drive it to shop..so I did, they tried to refuse the claim right off the rip, it needed a lifters and cam shaft, they authorized the repair up to 6000.00 but would not cover any future engine repairs because there could be metal shavings in the engine and they would not replace engine, I had to pay 4500.00 additional they said they would credit the 6000.00 award the replacement...now about a year later I had car towed to shop for air suspension problem and they will not cover the repair of compressor(internal short) due to the rear air bags looking worn..they will try to get out of any and all repairs. They are absolutely a scam. I can not stress enough to stay away from them, they tell you what you want to hear, never follow through...and I have the platinum package that covers luxury items ...they just suck bottom line

They are scams find a better warranty company they tell you that your covered under a plan then once you take your vehicle to a certified mechanic they make them tear down your engine then deny your claim So if I were you I will not use Carshield or American Auto Shield they just want your money don't be next just telling you by experience I don't even want to give them a star. honest to God truth.

This company is a scam! Stay away. They can literally decline any claim by claiming "continuous operation" They denied my claim because when my check engine light came on, I immediately pulled into the repair facility, less than a few yards. Because i did that, my claim was denied. I was supposed to tow it the 40 feet to the repair shop. So, if your on the highway when something fails, and you dare drive to a safe spot to stop, you just gave them all they need to deny any claim. What a sin!

Carshield is a shady company. The claim process was not very transparent and took way longer than necessary. I have to mediate between the car dealership and carshield to clearup confusion on what the next step was. The dealership mentioned that they disliked working with carshield because they have been shafted a few times in the past. I cancelled my coverage with carshield 3 months ago and they still call me to update the milage on my vehicle. After telling them that I am no longer covered by them, they simply hang up on me without a singleword. This isnt the professionalism I expect in a company like this. I cannot recommend this company unless they were to solve these problems.

DO NOT BUY FROM CARCHEX OR American Auto Shield in Lakewood CO has been scamming me on my extended warranty when I purchased this saying that my engine was covered if it were ever to blow up or have catastrophic failure. It’s been over 2 months and my truck has been sitting in a shop blown up and they push off inspections and have only reached out to me 1 time in 2 months. They have never let me meet with the adjuster at the mechanic shop to show them the failure and always show up unexpectedly and now they’ve finally come out and say me and my mechanic have to demonstrate failure on a blown up engine after they said they wouldn’t cover it unless they tore the engine apart to show them the failed part. The engine is BLOWN up, it cannot be repaired or demonstrate failure because it’s blown up. The company always says they’re escalating this matter but no one ever calls me. They are scamming me and trying to run my patience out to give up on the claim. I have paid monthly $149 a month for this warranty for 6 months now and the engine replacement is $15,000+. The call center dodges me and my mechanic and makes up crazy words about the engine failure to try and deny the claim. After threatening to call an attorney and file a claim with the attorney general they finally escalated this claim. It’s a very suspicious denial.

RUN! u will end up paying from ur pocket anyway , dont waste ur money on this scam . the front cover of the contract makes it sound like ur covered with no concern but in the contract they use every shenanigan and loop how ur not covered , save urself traume and heartache . its cleare they are more focused on collecting premiums than actually honoring coverage. if ur thinking this will give u peace of mind , think again - you'll thank urself later. (yes, they paid a something for my repair , but far less than whats needed and costing ) oh, let wait till the AI generated response replies here making it sound as if theyre more caring about ur vehicle . Scam Scam Scam

Decided after reading my contract to cancel within my first thirty days.exactly what the contract states I should receive a refund they are trying to argue so I told my credit card and now they are actively seeking a fraud charge against the company. Im sure claims wouldn't be any better.this llc is lucky I don't live closer I would sit outside wait for the manager and brake his knee caps! your company better becareful before they piss off the wrong person.... we don't like thieves!

This company American Auto Shield/ Car Shield is a scam they denied my claim on my truck and will not let me talk to a supervisor, and will not give me a denial letter why it was denied. My Advice stay away from this scam.

0 - Stars. Do use Car Shield. I had invested $4800 on my contract. Had a claim for my transmission. Denied appeal after appeal. Do yourself a favor. Save that money in a savings account & do not trust companies that keep your money & do not give it back. They are a scam just like regular car insurance companies. All these companies are scammers. Check the Class Action lawsuit against this company & the identical company Endurance. Stay far away from these companies. They are liars.

This is "Car Shield" Dont let them trick you! Not timely in adjuster responses. Not reasonable in scope of work coverage. Not reasonable in labor coverage. No urgency in completing work. App does not function in any capacity for claim filing. Why have doc upload options if they are not reviewed anywhere without persistent follow up from client. * Carshield is responding to the wrong Kingsley apparently... the service on that date is not even the right vehicle

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THESE THIEFS! After SELLING the vehicle that I had the warranty on, I contacted CARSHIELD to say that I no longer owned the vehicle. I sold the vehicle 3 weeks prior but the date that I called was their billing date in which they charged my card for the UPCOMING MONTH. When I called, I thought it would be straightforward to let them know that I didn't own the vehicle and they would not charge my card for the upcoming month. To my GREAT SURPRISE, THEY REFUSED. I called 7 times and spoke to 7 different people and got the same result. TOUGH ON THE CUSTOMER IF THEY NO LONGER OWN THE VEHICLE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY REGARDLESS UNLESS YOU CONTACT THEM BEFORE THE NEXT BILLING DATE!!!!!!!! I pay a lot of money in warranties and insurance and NEVER ONCE HAVE I HAD TO PAY FOR A WARRANTY OR INSURANCE on items the I no longer own!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had been a very loyal customer with CARSHIELD, but I will NEVER spend another dime with them again and neither should you!

They refuse to honor the WARRANTY that they put on PARTS THAT THEY PROVIDE. They're more than happy to basically tell you to "suck it" when you can't afford something and then try to sell you more. They had me waiting for a month to get my car fixed and still didn't come close to covering an engine failure repair. Now im told that a sensor in an engine that THEY provided isn't covered. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!

american auto shield is a dishonest scam warranty company trying their best to put auto repair shops out of business. do not pay for this warranty. they make up their own unreasonable prices and then approve amounts, and force us to release the car to the customer before payment, and then the payment is less than the agreed upon amount. then we have to chase the customer down. absolute waste of everyones time! i will never accept this warranty company in my business ever
Feb 04, 2025 -
Worst service ever. It’s a scam. They take a a payment from you every month and when your car breaks down they do everything in their power to deny the claim and to not cover it. This is the biggest scam ever. They have stolen from thousands of people. Do not fall for this scam. If you buy auto shield coverage you will found out the first time your car breaks down that it’s a scam. Emily at the claims department will make it so difficult for the shop fixing it that they will not want to accept your auto shield contract. Not only that they will tell the shop one thing and the customer another thing to cause problems between the shop manager and the customer that way you think it’s the shop that is not honest instead of carshield. It is carshield that is the scam not the shop you bring it to.

If you are a contractor do not deal with them. They do home warranty also and called to look at a furnace that is out. The previous guy who they called was a no show according to the home owner. A half hour before I arrived the home owner called and said the warranty company is sending someone else. This is after the warranty company reached out to me and after I scheduled the service call. I was on another site and had her scheduled at 3:30.,I talked to the warranty company and home owner and we’re all on the same page. If you are a contractor I would not waste your time with this company. They have multiple company’s but only this one website for all. It seems shady to me.

As other shop owners have noted - This company does not value my time or the car owners time. They also wont ever pay my full labor rate and they don't cover stuff thats pretty clearly "covered" in agreement. Im 10 business days into a basic fuel pump and transmission replacement. They sent an adjuster to take pictures I could easily take. Overall this is not a good experience for the customers or shop owners. Update - claim denied for impact damage (trans had a scratch on it so i can almost agree here, but fuel pump cracked at hose on top of tank...... not an impact) Customer just cancelled contract. 2nd one in a row.

Paying $160 a month for a "Platinum" warranty. Now through 2 claims they have covered less than half of the cost of the fixes. I've had this warranty for 2 years, or a total cost so far of $3840. In that time they covered $800 and I've paid out of pocket close to $2000. Not to mention all the extra time I've had to get a rental because they insist on shipping out used parts that take weeks to arrive. Nobody in customer service has any clue what is going on. The adjustors are ridiculous. An absolute scam company. Look elsewhere. They should be shut down.

I run a transmission shop and deal with a lot of extended warranty companies. To start out, they all have a lot of problems. This one in particular, tries to source all of their parts from junk yards and makes you fight with them to get an approval to do any repairs. Regardless of your deductible, most customers tend to pay between $1000-$1500 out of pocket. They demand so much paperwork before getting the work approved, I have had to add a service fee to the customer in order to work with them. In general I spend about 4 extra hours to get an approval over the span of 2 weeks. That means the customer is without their vehicle for 2 weeks longer than necessary to get the job done. Rental coverage is usually just reimbursable up to 7 days. I am not saying that you will not get your money's worth but do not think that you will not be paying a decent portion of your repairs still.

Don't do it!!!! We figured we would get this since we have been having issues with our car (2016 Hyundai Tucson) and it's been AWFUL!!! Our car has been in and out of shops since January which means we've had no vehicle and just been waiting!! And all they told us was we still have a extended warranty and Hyundai will cover it. Ok that's great but why couldn't they of told us that months ago? Because now we are gonna have to wait until probably August for it to be fixed. What really also makes me mad about them is the adjuster takes at least a week to review anything. They said 24 hours but yeah that's funny it's never that short of time. We been waiting 3 weeks on him to review documents because he needed them printed out and a picture took of them. They couldn't be sent any other way and guess what they didn't tell us that 3 weeks ago!! You'd be better off saving up money and paying to fix your car even if you're broke like we are because it's not worth it to sit around and wait especially when you only have 1 car!!!! They don't realize people have lives and need a vehicle to work or pretty much to anything!! Also they won't let you speak directly to the adjuster which makes me so mad because none of the representatives know what they're talking about
May 25, 2024 -
They dragged out the process. Something that should have taken a week took six weeks. They make it so that you can't talk to their adjusters unless you have the repair shop on the phone. They were so unresponsive and sent the wrong part (supposedly by mistake ) which sent the repair shop over the edge because after that they refused to work on my car, so I had to find another repair shop, which only added to the delays caused by American Auto Shield. They give you the run around, make you talk to customer service reps who have zero authority to do anything in the hopes you'll give up and they can get out of paying the claim. Then, their rental reimbursement is measly. They made it seem like they were doing me a favor by approving five more days of rental coverage due to the delays, but the part arrived two days after, so now they are only covering two days (because apparently, they think the engine got replaced the same day it arrived and the car was ready to drive home that same day too) despite having caused WEEKS of delay. Do not give these people your money. There has not been a single positive or encouraging interaction with them once a claim was filed. You'll feel disrespected, cheated, and your intelligence insulted. They truly ARE that bad.

I am a service adviser for a dealership and deal with dozens of extended warranty claims a week. In most cases, I spend between 5-20 minutes per phone call to these companies. That is not the case with American Auto Shield. I started a claim three days ago and the timeline is as follows: Day 1, made initial call and spent 35 minutes on hold without ever getting a powertrain adviser. Called back later and was told the wait time was 1 hour, but if I called at the start of business the following day it would be much quicker. Day 2 I spend 47 minutes on hold before getting an adviser, and then another 30 minutes starting the claim. The only silver lining here was the adviser, Mike, was very thorough and efficient and respectful of my time. The next step was sending an inspector, which occurred early on Day 3. Was told by him I should get a call at noon. Having not received one, I placed a call at 3pm...as a matter of fact, I'm still on hold after 1 hour and 36 minutes. I understand being busy and high call volume, but I have 15-20 other customers to assist throughout my day, and these kinds of wait times are very prohibitive. If getting your car in and out of a shop quickly, and you value your service adviser's sanity, I wouldn't choose American Auto Shield. That is all.
