Do not rent from this place. The reviews are poor for a reason there are other places in town with nicer equipment

We rented a Jeep first thing at 8am to do the Alpine loop and climb Handies Peak. Unfortunately, our climb took more time than anticipated and we didn't make it back to Lake City till 7pm well after the return window of 5:30pm. Knowing when we rented, if we didn't make it back, we would be charged an additional day. We had no problem paying since being late was our fault. The owner Jeff decided to show up to our Airbnb and aggressively scold me for not coming back in time. His opening line after banging on our door was "Are you ever going to return my Jeep" and he continued to make a scene in front of our entire family gathering. I apologized and said we will gladly pay the second day and take it back now. He continued to berate us saying "I had to cancel a reservation for tomorrow because of this" and it's dirty there's nothing I can do with it." He then left with us still in possession of the Jeep and paying the second pay. We took it back right after opening the following day to 4 Jeeps sitting on the lot...... We've been a customer for years but will never rent from them again, save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else!

Find anywhere else available before stopping at this place. Fuel and propane service is terrible. Staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. Act like it's putting them out to have to take your money. No thank you, very unfriendly and unhospitable. I said thank you and they didn't even respond, the reality of it is they should have been thanking me for my purchases there.

Friendly staff, really good jeep rental that got us all over the Alpine Loop.

Stopped in for help with a tire, the staff was really rude, dismissive and when I asked for a tire repair kit they laughed at me. They were also rude to other customers asking about fuel (no prepay). Terrible customer service, employees acted like they didn’t want to be there.

mechanic was unfriendly and unhelpful. Our Tacoma took a beating to the front differential on engineer pass and we needed some assistance, he essentially told us that he “couldn’t help us” and then left for his lunch. Not only was he unhelpful, but he was not kind and treated us like he was frustrated we even asked.

Great experience! Walk in rental. Rented a jeep for Nellie Creek Rd to Uncompahgre Trailhead. Jeep worked great on the rough road. Next day rented one for Alpine Loop. Worked great. Rented 3 more times that week always good. Owners & staff were knowledgeable and helpful about local 4wd roads. Paperwork check in check out all easy. Had us ck over vehicle & gas guage with them - all good. Even when busy they were friendly and professional. I'll rent here again next time in Lake City.

This is the worst Polaris Dealership in the United States especially Lake City Colorado a town full of people on vacation with side by sides and all atvs. You go in and ask for the simplest common parts that goes out on these machines and they tell you that’s not a common part we can have next week at a double the price rate. Simple parts like a belt or wheel bearing common parts, they don’t even have o- rings to fix a small oil leak. I went to the general store and bought o-rings for an oil leak. I don’t recommend this shop for anything parts, rental's or even sales. We asked about the price of a new expedition just to see what they was going for and was once again rudely told I don’t know I’ll have the salesman call you. The salesman did call back and said 48000 so we looked it up on line and the one we asked about on line was 37000. There is a great example of what you deal with there. I have owned Polaris my entire life and never seen a dealership run so poorly. If you go here you have been warned they have way more bad reviews than good.

Terrible experience, after paying the extra $50 to pick up early, we waited over an hour in a long line before we could even get it. Definitely wasn’t even worth the extra money. Then when returning we tried to explain to them that the gas tank was not full when we got it, but they were adamant that it was and filled it up (with our card) until gas was literally about to spill out. Again, I tried explaining to them that it absolutely was not full when we got it, and really just wanted them to acknowledge that. We spent more money filling it up BEFORE we went riding for the day than we did after riding for over 8 hours that day. But they still insisted that it was full. If it had been, we wouldn’t have had to stop at the gas station before going to the mountains. We basically paid twice the amount of gas that we should have. Ended up having 2 employees and the owner all come out and talking over us saying that we were wrong and shoving a $10 bill in our face. It wasn’t even about the money at that point, just wanted them to acknowledge it and hopefully not let it happen to the next person spending a ton of money on a rental. Absolutely do not recommend. We used High altitude for the next 2 days and LOVED them. Such wonderful people.

Overall bad experience and horrible customer service. I reserved a side by side from Lake City Auto & Sports Center two months in advance. When I showed up with my two kids at 8am to pick up our rental we were told to wait outside for 15 minutes as the one person working that day (Saturday) opened the store. Once we were let inside, it took over an hour to get our rental. Approximately 10 miles into our journey the gas gauge on our rental indicated that we had gone through half of a tank. 20 miles into our trip around the Alpine Loop the gauge showed we had 1/4 of gas left, so we turned around and headed back to the shop. As we approached the shop the low fuel light started to flash. Our planned full day trip (8am-5pm) turned into a stressful half day trip (9:15am-1pm). We explained the situation to the 2 people working at the shop (mechanic and front desk worker) and were told to come back at 5:45pm to talk to the owners, who were "out in the mountains". This was not convenient for us, so I asked if we could come back the next day. Next Day - I spoke with the owner in the shop and expressed my concerns and complaints. I was told that morning delays are normal and that if I wanted to apply for a job there I could. I was told that the gas gauge was not accurate and I could email the manufacturer if I had a complaint. Finally, I was aggressively told that under no circumstances should I expect additional discounts or a refund. Overall we had a horrible $500 experience with Lake City Auto & Sports Center. Luckily, in the past few years a few other companies have popped up in Lake City that also rent side by side UTVs. We will not be doing business here again.

Really enjoyed the friendly staff as we checked out a couple Razors for rental. The two ladies were super helpful and about the business. They were very knowledgeable about our trail and offered suggestions on stopping points. The ATVs were super awesome! They were the newest model and offered music and Bluetooth. The return check in process was also quick and efficient. After we filled up with the proper fuel the units were looked over, washed and cleaned almost right away. EXCELLENT SERVICE!

The professionalism and customer service is not only embarrassing, It is almost shocking that anyone has a good experience renting from this company. The alpine loop (which is the trails most riders renting here will attempting) are not the most technical in difficulty, but are also not the easiest. Even the most experienced drivers can and will have a part or two break at some point. While they offer to come get you If your vehicle has issues and ensures that minor scratches or parts breaking (like a part that would cost around 250 to replace and screws in) is not a huge deal, they can and will make sure to file with their insurance to replace It and charge you the full $1,000 deductible. On top of this, the experience of having to be retrieved off of the pass with them expecting you to drive a faulty vehicle they tried to half rig in order to get It down the mountain without having to drive It himself, compromises your safety and the safety of everyone with you. With thousand foot drop offs right next to you, Is not only dangerous and risky but the knowledge they lack of safety is concerning. Not to mention the employees and spouses will scream at one another in front of you, or be rude to you directly, making an already stressful situation even more uncomfortable. Overall, It was hard to even give them one star. Please, please read the reviews and think twice before putting you or your family’s life on the line renting from Jeff.

Had a fun time with the Jeep rental. Reasonable price, easy to work with. Appears that most negative reviews are a result of charges from damages to rentals. I had a nice experience and didn’t mess up my Jeep.

Overall 10/10 experience and we will definitely be back to Lake City to snowmobile again! We came to Lake City for Christmas and had booked a Snowmobile Tour with Lake City Auto & Sports Center. Jeff the owner of the outfit and our guide for the tour warned us when we booked that they did not have much snow and that wether we would be able to go or not was entirely up to mother nature. We have learned to expect this as the end of December is hit or miss for having snow. Jeff called us the day before our trip to let us know that he had just been out to check the snow and we would be able to go! In fact, we were the first tour of the season. Only about 30 miles of trails were safe to ride out of the ~150 miles available when this area has all of its snow. Even so, we had a wonderful time, and were just the right amount of worn out after the ride! The views were some of the prettiest we've seen, and Jeff was perfectly happy to chat with us about everything from trail maintenance to local current events. We will definitely be returning, hopefully when mother nature has decided to dump more snow. With the huge amount of trails you could come here repeatedly and do something different every time.

We rented a Polaris RZR and within the first few miles offroad it got a flat. We had to wait about an hour until someone with an air compressor and patch kit came along and they helped us out. Because of the wasted time we didnt have time to do all of the trails we had planned but when we brought it back and mention the flat, the last said, "Well, it must have not been that big of a deal if you brought it back on time so we can't give you any partial refund." In addition to the flat, the transmission lurched so bad going downhill we always put it in neutral and the amount of rattles gave us all headaches. We've rented plenty other RZRs before and none were this bad.

A bit hectic when you go inside to rent. Employees were arguing with each other and a bit flustered/rude (possibly because they were so busy). We got a 4 seater rzr for the day (10 AM to 5 PM) for $501. Our rzr got a flat at the top of Engineer Pass and luckily a Jeep had a patch kit and we were able to plug the tire. They give you a gps beacon in case you have mechanical issues - but I can only imagine that takes some time for them to get up there. We returned the rzr early because we didn’t know how well the plug would hold up over the day (but we must have got our money’s worth according to the owner’s wife if we brought it in early). We got the lurching rzr mentioned in a prior review and it could certainly have caused an accident going around the switchbacks. They were able to accommodate us as walk ins and we don’t have high expectations for rentals but were disappointed for the cost and the overall experience (this is by far more expensive than even Moab). You do have to pay $18 per extra driver as mentioned in another review.

Do NOT RENT RED AND GREY CANAM 1,000!!!! First of all EVERYONE IS RUDE. Literally everyone. First, they failed to check tire pressure before we left the rental place. We took it back to get air in it, we checked the pressure with MANUAL PRESSURE GAUGE, if you have ever used one you know that it cannot be wrong because the pressure from the tire shoots the little stick out so you can see the pressure. The lady had a digital one and told us that we were wrong and our gauge was the one not working. She definitely had no idea what she was talking about and does not belong in that field of work. None of the people in there, management included, belong in the customer service department. Secondly, about the third day we had the side by side, it broke down ALL DAY LONG, we kept returning it and they claimed to have fixed it but they did not. It left us stranded miles up in the mountains ALL DAY. And they knew. They kept telling us to go up and ride so they they didn't have to give us a refund. They absolutely ruined my vacation. On top of that after we returned it, they rented it out to more people! And it broke down on them as well! DO NOT RENT HERE IT IS A JOKE! We own many businesses in the family and we would NEVER treat people this way!!!!

Do NOT rent from this place! We rented a side by side only to find at the top of Cinnamon Pass we could not descend without lurching all the way down. This was not safe to operate and very scary! They did not care, they said maybe it was dust in the brakes! I’m no mechanic, but I know better than that! If you do rent from them hit the call button for mechanical help; we didn’t, and limped it to town 2 hours early only for a response that we must have got our money’s worth. They were not concerned about the issues, and I would bet it will be in the line for tomorrow. Not that we expect anything, but even an acknowledgment of the issue and leading to an unpleasant experience would have been nice. Karma will catch up, good things happen to good people.

Rented an RZR 1000 from lake city for two days. Had a great time and the machine ran great. Was a little hesitant because of the other reviews, so I made it a point to share my experience.

Rented a 6 person razor and did a complete day of off roading! The team was amazing getting us ready to head out! We went up Engineer Pass and our to Sherman, CO. I will definitely be back and maybe rent a Jeep the next time. It can get pretty cold up on the passes, dress warm and bring lots of layers!

Here's my experience with Jeff: I made a web inquiry about a used SxS. He called within 10 minutes of me submitting the request. I made arrangements to go up on a Monday to look at his machines. When I arrived, he was out but his employee called him and he arrived in 10 minutes. I was initially looking for a 4 seat RZR, but he was out of stock. He did have a 4 seat CAN-AM Maverick turbo. Having not done the research, I thought they were 30K plus. This unit was 22K LOADED. Test drive and done. He delivered it to my house an hour away today. Would a big city dealer do that? No. I highly recommend Jeff and Lake City Auto and Sports Center. Thank you Jeff!

This place is a joke. They are thieves and very unprofessional. I made reservations back in April for our trip at the end of July. I booked 5 days with 2 Polaris rzr crews. 3 weeks before our trip we decided to rent them for 3 days and the last 2 days on a trip to Estes park, Rocky Mountain national forest. So I called them to cancel the two days. Our rental began on a Monday so we went in Sunday evening to get squared away so we could get going first thing Monday morning. When we pull up, no parking spots, we are welcomed with, you need to move because you are blocking our gas pumps. Let me tell you, there was so much room between our car and gas pumps my 5 year old could have driven a simi and made it to the pumps. Now, we are the only ones there, so it should be quick in and quick out. Nope, they are so scattered they ask us several times, now who are you and what are you renting? Finally they find us, “oh y’all have the 2 rzr’s for 5 days”. I say, “we originally had booked them for 5 days but I called and cancelled the last 2”. The girl behind the desk even seen where it had been marked out and someone had rewritten our names down. She informed me that she is going to charge us the full 5 days because they have a 72 hour cancellation policy. Now I’m no genius but this is Sunday and the days being cancelled is Thursday and Friday. Last I checked that’s longer than 72 hours. By this point I’m getting very frustrated, I simply say “no your not”. She called someone and then informed us that we will not get the multiple day discount due to the cancellation. So they still got us for an additional $120 bucks. The helmets are very dirty and they do not offer any kind of eye protection. There are 2 other places in town that offer rentals. They are not the only joint in town. And to finish it off, we ended up with not 2 rzr crews but 1 and a can-am maverick. The maverick seats lay back more than the rzr and we didn’t want it but that’s “all” they had. But the next morning when we went to get them, they walked us around the maverick and a rzr. We went to grab our dirty helmets and when we walked out, another guy was sitting in our rzr fixing to drive off. I stopped him because my stuff was in the back seat. They had found another rzr for us when he took that one. Amazing. I don’t know if they enjoy the smoke Colorado has to offer or if they are just that bad but what ever it is this place is the worst I have ever seen.

One star is too many. We arrived at the store 45min before closing with a flat tire. We had our own spare and simply needed assistance changing tires out. We were turned away as the “mechanic” had already clocked out. We reached out to Rene’s Garage even though it was officially closed. Rene saw us immediately and assisted us in the most professional manner. If you need assistance in Lake City NEVER try this location. Go to Rene instead.

Over priced! We got the Jeep for 2 days and had to pay an extra 1000! The owner is a very rude person who will scream at you and cuss at you . He was very rude to my husband after we paid the 1000.00 that he said we owed. Than I went back up there to get our deposit slip back he was rude to me . Do not go there he will find a scratch on the vehicle and charge you a crazy amount . They are scammers. Also if you get the tan Jeep check it over because they put it right back on the lot !!!

Do not rent a jeep from here!!!! Scammers! Will try to say don't worry about small scuffs when renting here, only to charge you insane amount when you return Jeep. The jeep that was rented never touched anything but air, only to be charged when returned for scuffs already there. They use this as an extra profit center at your expense. The staff is extremely rude and this place should be avoided at all costs!!!

Don’t know how anyone could say the service was bad. We were there in September 2017. First day we were there they spent an hour with us while they were busy just to find us a spark plug for our ranger when we tried to fix it ourselves . The second day they worked on it all day for us since we were 12 hours from home and begged and got it running and had it like brand new.. Price was reasonable for the work done and done right. Would go there again anytime. And we got to see a bear in their parking lot which we enjoyed.

Rented a vehicle (Jeep) from them on a past trip. Reasonable price and fairly friendly staff. Was extremely careful not to damage Jeep and returned very clean for a whole day of Jeeping. Very surprised to find that the staff member commented on some small scuffs near fender, he told me that they would buff out and to give them 50 bucks. That all sounds reasonable, HOWEVER, the day when I checked the vehicle out I was told to look it over for damages and the staff member said not to consider any superficial small scratches. The exact thing I was charged extra for. I mentioned this to the mechanic and he did not seem to care. If you rent from this place make sure to look the vehicle over and document EVERYTHING. Take your time (at least a half hour) even if they try to rush you out.

My wife and I just returned from a weekend in Lake City, CO where we rented a Polaris Razer 900 from Lake City Motorsports. We reserved the UTV a couple of weeks in advance and when we arrived we had a brand new 2016 unit to ride. The folks that run the place were very friendly, polite and helpful. They gave us a map to the surrounding area, a GPS unit in case we got in trouble and helmets to wear. We had an awesome time! I will be returning and will definately rent from Lake City Motorsports again. I can't wait to get back and explore those mountains again.

After calling around to several places in the area, we chose Lake City Auto and Sports specifically because they had a Rubicon Jeep NOT a Wrangler. So that is what we booked (myself and another friend, we booked two separate jeeps). My friend was looking at buying a Rubicon, and this was a perfect chance to try one out. When we got there to confirm, we were told that we did not have the Rubicons booked. One of the owner's daughters was helping us out, and she was very friendly, and very helpful. However, her dad, the owner, acted completely annoyed that we were in his shop. He told us that his other daughter, who we booked our jeeps with, did not tell us that and that she "doesn't make mistakes"...when in fact she did. He made absolutely no attempt to make it right, besides giving my buddy $5 off his tire insurance. Granted, it was 4th of July weekend and they were probably busier than normal, but it was no excuse for how the owner acted. He needs to take a lesson from his daughter in customer service.
