Love this place. They offer backpacks for day use that include all sorts of goodies but most importantly binoculars. The trails are well maintained, the wildlife is wonderful. Easy trail and dogs permitted on part of the trail system.

What a gem! The visitor center has great educational displays and the boardwalk had beautiful views!

Nature center is closed on Monday which was disappointing. We also did not see much wildlife, could hear birds. The trails and nature walk are well maintained. Crowds were small. Nice lake close to Denver.

Our favorite place to take a walk on a warm winter day. Flat easy path. We have never gone all the around, usually go out about 3 miles and then go back same way. The eagles are fun to watch soar above you. The further you go on the path past the boardwalk qith the gazebo, the thinner the crowd gets.

Great park: we went on a Sunday late afternoon in mid January and it was beautiful. We only got to explore a small portion of the trail going around the lake bc we really took our time (and saw a bald eagle at dusk!) but we'll definitely be coming back to check out more of it soon.

Had a great experience trying to get some bald eagle photos, walking the trail and enjoying this natural habitat with my lady. I wish others would mind the signs and keep their voices down as to not scare away the wild life. But not the parks fault. This is not a play park for the kids. This is a nature preserve state park. This is a place to observe and enjoy nature doing what nature will do.

Great place to see some wildlife close to the cities. Park at the nature center, go across the bridge, hang a left, and look up. You never know what you'll see.

Cool place for quiet walks and scoping out some birds. It's known for its gatherings of Bald eagles and other birds.

$10 day pass - well worth it to see eagles ? and ? ? - you can borrow binoculars from the nature center!

What a beautiful place to go visit. I didn't get to do a lot as it was a little chilly and very windy out at the time, but I would imagine at other times of the year it's probably extremely exciting! I also love what they had inside of the visiting center. I was at the bird sanctuary and it's very interesting.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Beautiful Spot in Brighton, CO As a photographer and drone photographer, I love coming here whenever I’m in Colorado. This spot in Brighton is one of my go-to places — it’s beautiful, peaceful, and perfect for getting some solid walks or runs in. The area is always well taken care of, and the people who come through are friendly and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy the scenery, clear your mind, and grab some amazing shots. Every time I visit, I end up with photos I’m proud of. Nothing but good things to say about this place. It’s pretty, relaxing, and definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area.

Great trail the flat 9 mile hike was scenic. The wildlife preserve decks have beautiful views at sunset.

Where do I start. Lol. I had reservations about this lake. Until I got there it was settled. The sanctuary was amazing. The deck that you could walk and watch birds was super cool. The water was low, not to much of a buzz kill. The fishing was great. The park is 10 out of 10, hands down. My mother and I got to see to Eagle's one Golden, and the other Bald. Literally made my day. We didn't catch any fish. Others around did. But let's be honest. It's the the little things, always will be. Wish I had taken more photos

I had a good time for the most part. It is kind of disturbing to know though that the water is toxic☠️. We were allowed to take our kayaks out, but to be so close to the toxic algae that was literally everywhere. Let not the photos deceive you, the water is far from clear! Other than that, it is very beautiful ?. Not the greatest fishing for us, probably had the wrong bait ?. The park ranger was very very very nice! He even helped us wash off our kayaks! Summery 1. Toxic water ☠️ don't drink, don't swim, AVOID CONTACT WITH THE EYES ? AND MOUTH ?! 2. Bugs on bathroom floors make it unpleasant. 3. Everything else is top notch ?!

Nice, wide 8.8 mile trail around the lake, with a number of board walks and observation points. Can be lots of gnats and mosquitos, so come prepared.

This lake was once polluted. It's now a beautiful home for abundant wildlife. I was only there for a brief time and got caught in the rain. I did like the overall atmosphere. They also have a wildlife center on the premises and numerous hikes

An awesome State Park for your outdoor activities and sports. Walked and biked the whole lake. Plenty to do. Great bird scenery, all kinds of different colors on them. For all you state park license plates, great place to spend the day. Fishing, archery, etc...

Barr Lake is my local place to see Bald Eagles, and it rarely lets me down. The lake has nesting sites, mostly on the west side, but migrating geese are also a major attraction. The bird feeding activities can get more interesting when there is a layer of ice covering the lake because the food source is limited to fewer thawed water holes. During my latest visit, I was deafened by a tree full of Red-winged Blackbirds in full song, and I also spotted a Great Blue Heron.

The lake is way down this year, so all the water birds are pretty far out. There are still bald eagles, snow geese, pintail ducks but nothing like last year. It’s a pleasant walk around the lake, but disappointing with the water level so low.

We had a great time visiting the park & absolutely loved the nature center. The trails were well maintained, clean, and easy to navigate for my toddler. There are picnic areas with grills and lots of shaded seating. Beautiful wildlife was a major highlight for me. We saw red winged blackbirds a sweet fawn. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Easy parking. Electric vehicle charging. Nice nature center with clean bathrooms. Lots of people picnicking. Did the 9 mile loop. Very flat. Sometime bugs when walking on the dam. Some views at parts. But pretty boring and long. We saw deer, cows, horses, prairie dogs and birds. Lots of people going a mile or so and turning around.

We wwere not aware of this beautiful state park, we visited the park one fine evening on my way back from work place. Oh man ! I am glad that i took the decision to visit and i do not regret. The park has picnic spot, boating and fishing facilities, the trails around the lake are so relaxing and beautiful. I would highly recommend. Your pets will not be allowed on the trail so be aware of it and you can do camping, picnic, cycling, fishing.

Beautiful walk and scenery. Part of this is a Wildlife sanctuary, so dogs can only go right after the bridge. Bald Eagles are nesting in the area! If you walk around the lake 1 time, it's the same as hiking a 14er, but on flat ground, pretty cool! Very clean and well kept.

A nice place to spend some time. Great views, a serene lake, and a lot of peace, it was quiet and fairly empty. Lots of walking trails and grounds to explore. I got in for free with my state park pass but usually it’s 10 dollars to enter.

Entry fee to the park is $10. We thought that we could drive around the lake by car, but there is no road there. Beautiful nature in the park, but there were a lot of mosquitoes. The trails are not paved, we were with a small baby , we were not able to walk along the trails because it is not comfortable to walk there with a stroller.

Such a gem of a park! Went here after dropping folks off at the airport and I wanted a break from the traffic. Beautiful party and education center with a lake, dam and lake trail. When the weather is warm I'm sure it's busy with boaters and fishing. But since it was cold and mid March I just got to share my walk with the birds and squirrels. The nesting eagle pair was the real highlight. And something I haven't seen before: trail accessible wheelchairs that can be reserved. Not paved trails for city wheelchairs, but motorized off-road style for folks to access the dirt trail. Great park!

Our family enjoyed our visit to the Barr Lake state park. It is open from 5 am - 10 pm. We went around 12 pm and there was a considerable rush given the great weather that day in the month of February! Kids enjoyed the nature centre & activities there! There’s an archery range as well. Visitors may boat, fish, hike, bicycle, horseback ride, natural study, bird watch etc! There are picnic areas with tables and grills too. The full trail of the perimeter of the lake is 8.8 miles but there are shorter walks as well as easy trails. Overall, with 3 kids, aged 10, 7, 5, we enjoyed our day at the Barr Lake state park! Be sure to visit the nature center!

Gorgeous lake by the airport! Went by here to kill some time before our flight! Colorado’s sunlit blue sky is reflected in the lake, which is partially frozen. There were many geese and they were loud! There are some trails around the lake. Nice place to take kids and/or dogs for a walk. They allow boating, but it is now suspended due to the season. As this is a state park, they do charge ~$10 for a day pass. However, you can use the pass across state parks nearby!

It’s a big State Park, lots of trails. I would bring a bike next time :). One of the longest boardwalk I’ve been (great place to watch and listen for different kinds of birds). Be sure to bring a telescope coz’ they are tiny from far away. It’s quiet place except for the planes. If want to be on the water make sure you head out to where the boats go. Can bring your paddle boat. Place to fish. They got nice sand by the water it almost look like a beach but no waves. Great place to watch the sunset. I suggest you bring bug spray or else you will get bitten by mosquitoes and other flying bugs.
